Chapter 18: Back On My Feet
It's been two weeks since Riley was let out of hospital, he hasn't been on many mission. Anne has been making sure that he's alright, and that Snow doesn't try anything. Riley was getting some final checks in the med bay.
"You should be fine" Hera said removing a hand from the back of Riley's head.
"Thanks Hera" Riley said jumping of the bed.
"So, do you think you can help on missions again?" Kanan asked coming through the door, he had Anne walking behind him.
"I'm ready" Riley walked over to the two and hugged Anne.
"We have a mission in 10" Kanan said handing Riley a bag. "We didn't tell you in case you couldn't come"
"I'll meet you down there" Riley said getting out his chest plate.
"Can we talk?" Anne asked quietly.
"Sure" Riley smiled at her while Kanan and Hera left.
"What are we going to do about Snow?" Anne sat on the bed while Riley was equipping his armour.
"She needs to learn that she can't have me"
"She needs to learn her place"
"You know, I still haven't gotten you that weapon I promised"
"So?" Anne looked at Riley confused.
"Think vaguely about what you want, take your mind off Snow"
"I don't want to take my mind of Snow, are you sure you're ready?"
"I have to be sometime, what's the plan"
"You and me stop a convoy, doesn't matter how. Sabine plants charges while Ezra, Zeb and Kanan steal the shipment. We meet up with Hera at the tower and we deliver the food to Tarkin Town"
"Sounds simple enough" Riley laughed as he attached his weapon to his belt.
"And you can't do anything stupid, we do it my way" Anne grinned as Riley looked disappointed.
"Alright, but we have a plan B"
"I'll think about it, let's go meet up with the rest"
Riley and Anne walked to the Cargo bay, everyone was waiting on them.
Once they arrived at Capitol City, Riley and Anne were walking down the road.
"It's bigger than I expected" Anne smiled at all the buildings above.
"It's big, but it's also dangerous" Riley stopped by an ally.
"We can wait here" Riley walked into it, Anne followed.
"How long do we wait?" Anne leaned against a wall.
"Until we get the signal from Kanan" Riley sat on the floor against, leaning against a wall.
"Really?" Anne looked disgusted. "How can you sit on the floor?"
"I'm not standing for hours, you should sit too" Riley patted the floor next to him.
Anne was walking towards where Riley was sitting. She was wearing white jeans, a purple top and some purple boots. Anne sat in Riley's lap.
"Really?" Riley laughed.
"I'm sitting on that floor for hours" Anne giggled as she rested her head on Riley's shoulder.
"Fair enough, I need to buy you some armour"
"Why?"
"Because if you're going to join me on missions, then you need some armour"
"Do you even have enough credits?"
"For the past six years, I've had nothing to spend credits on. I can spare a few credits" Riley hugged Anne.
"You're too kind" Anne closed her eyes and enjoyed the moment.
"I know, I can't help myself"
"You know, Snow was right about one thing" Anne looked up at Riley.
"What?"
"You need a reward" Anne kissed Riley.
"What about that party?" Riley looked in Anne's purple eyes.
"Not enough"
The two sat on the floor for hours, mostly just talking about themselves. Anne found out that Riley was scared to let people close to him, and she could understand why. Riley found out that Anne's never had a relationship and that she left the academy only a few weeks after Sabine did.
"Spector 1 to Spector 7 and 8, the convoys on it's way"
"Roger that Spector 1, moving into position" Riley put away his communicator. "There goes that moment. Come on, we can finish this later"
"Ok, let's go" Anne got off Riley and helped him up.
Anne and Riley walked to the end of the ally, Riley stood at the end of it while Anne stopped the convoy.
"Move out of the way, Imperial business" an officer called.
"Sorry, but would you like to buy some yogans" Anne displayed a basket of fruit.
"No, now move or be arrested" the officer was getting frustrated.
"Come on, they're fresh" Anne held the basket up.
"Move!" the officer pushed Anne over. "Arrest her"
"Is there a problem?" Riley asked approaching Anne.
"This is Imperial business, intervene and be arrested" the officer tried not to shout.
"So why did you push over this merchant? She's only trying to sell fruit" Riley helped Anne up.
"I don't have time for this arrest them" the officer motioned for two troopers to arrest the teens.
"I don't think you want to do that" Riley said sternly.
"Is that a threat?" the officer walked towards Riley until they were face to face.
"Maybe" Riley got the signal from Kanan telling him the crates were acquired. "But most likely"
Riley head butted the officer and dropped a smoke bomb, both him and Anne ran back down the alley way. They lost the troopers, but wanted to make sure so they kept running.
"That was easy" Riley laughed.
"It's better than running miles on end" Anne smiled when Riley chuckled.
"Ok, you win. Let's walk, I think we got far enough" they both slowed down.
"Yeah, I'm getting tired" Anne yawned, Riley didn't blame her since it was almost midnight.
"Do you want me to carry you?"
"I'll be fine, just exhausted" Anne yawned again but heavier.
"Well, the offer still stands"
"I bet it does, do you want me to carry you?" Anne joked.
"Do you honestly think you can do it?" Riley smiled lightly.
"Good point, and besides your stronger than me" Anne bumped her shoulder into Riley's.
"Nice plan"
"Thanks, I honestly didn't think it would work. Oh, and thanks for the help"
"Anytime" Riley stopped when he saw the tower.
"What's wrong?" Anne stopped and turned around to face Riley.
"I feel dizzy, like I'm trying to remember" Riley kneeled on the floor. "Probably just a small case of amnesia"
Anne knelt on the floor next to Riley making sure he wouldn't collapse.
"I'm fine now" Riley stood up with Anne's help. "Let's go"
Riley and Anne arrived at the tower, they were the first ones to arrive.
"You can sleep, I'll take watch" Riley sat down on the floor, giving the bed to Anne.
"You need sleep too" Anne protested.
"You need it more"
"Why don't we both sleep?" Anne suggested.
"Because if any troopers come through that door, we won't know about it"
"You worry too much" Anne dragged Riley over to the bed. "Just sleep"
"There's no wining against you is there?" Riley joked and lied on the bed.
"Nope" Anne climbed into bed and snuggled up to Riley. "You know you're really warm"
"So that's why you like it" Riley put his arms around Anne.
"I love you Riley" Anne said as she drifted off into sleep.
"I love you too Anne, I just wish life was better" Riley fell asleep as well.
