(Sunday 31st)
Alec went home in silence too stunned to really respond. Clary was now his girlfriend. It all happened so suddenly that his mind was still catching up. Walking home took less than a minute of course so there wasn't a lot of thinking he could get with such a short walk. He simply went about on autopilot until he reached his room. Once he was inside the cool blue room did he finally begin to mellow out.
I can't believe I have a girlfriend. I actually won Clarys heart. This is amazing.
Alec's heart was pounding a mile a minute just with the sheer bliss engulfing him at that very moment in knowing Clary was now his girlfriend. I will get to introduce her to my parents and Max. Jace won't be happy for us but oh well. Then I get to formally meet her family. (Realization) I GET TO MEET HER FATHER!
His eyes went wide as he sunk to the floor. He never thought of how he would deal with both her father and brother. Jon was always around her ever since her accident which was understood but he knew just by meeting him once that it went to another level when it came to guys. So working on that theory their father would be exponentionally worse especially since not only was she the baby of the family she was also his only daughter.
Alec let his thoughts wander when he finally had enough with his own low self-esteem. Enough! I took the chance and asked her out. I didn't back down when she said I wasn't the only guy after her. I tried my best and won her heart in the end. I will not let all of my effort go to waste because of her father and brother.
He gathered his will and decided that it would be better to go to bed now before his thoughts decided to make a u-turn. Alec didn't waste time and simply kicked off his shoes and got into bed. His clothes would get wrinkled but better that than his traitorous mind make him have a panic attack and do something stupid.
Before getting comfortable he turned his body slightly towards the window where Clarys room could be seen.
"Good night Clary." After his goodnight to his girlfriend he turned to get comfortable and went to sleep.
(Sunday Morning)
None of the girls wanted to get up but the knocking on the door didn't really give any of them a choice.
"Girls will you please wake up already." Jon said as he knocked again.
"We're up!" Maia yelled as she hurled a pillow at the door.
"Hurry downstairs for breakfast before it's all gone." Jon said before walking away. He enjoyed waking them up like that.
"Please don't make me get up." Izzy said as she clung to the comforter.
"We don't have a choice." Clary said.
"I hate your brother." Maia said.
Clary smiled into her pillow.
All three girls sent another 5 minutes in bed before getting up and start to dress. None of them wanted to move but they had lots to do.
(After primping and downstairs)
"Good you're all awake." Jocelyn said as she began to fill the plates for the girls.
"Why couldn't we stay in bed?" Clary asked.
"Because you have to eat and keep your regular schedule." Jocelyn said.
"What schedule? It's Sunday." Clary said.
"It's the day before a school day and I won't have you sleeping in all afternoon. Plus you have to open all your presents and write Thank you cards." Clary gave her a look. "It's the courteous thing to do." Jocelyn said and with that the objections stopped.
Maia and Izzy simply filled their plates as Jocelyn and Clary talked making sure to stay quiet. Besides they knew they couldn't sleep in forever.
Breakfast was over before they knew it and Clary needed to talk to her mother. The sooner she dealt with this the better.
"Hey mom can we talk for a minute?" Clary asked. The girls knew what for but Valentine and Jon were curious.
"Everything alright Princess?" Valentine asked before Jocelyn could respond. He didn't like not knowing.
"Yes daddy." Clary said. "I just need to talk to mom."
"No problem sweetheart. Let's go upstairs." Jocelyn said as she gave her husband another look.
Valentine slightly regretted his actions but he could tell by Clarys voice that she had something important to talk about. He wasn't going to let a small disagreement with his wife get in the way of knowing what was going on in his daughter's life.
(Upstairs)
"Is everything alright Clary?" Jocelyn asked her clearly nervous daughter.
"Yeah everything is okay. Well for now." Jocelyn gave her a curious look. "I have a boyfriend."
Jocelyn looked stunned for a second and then smiled. She was happy for Clary. Sebastian was her first love and she thought it would end badly but thankfully it didn't. She was looking forward to one day seeing another suitor for her daughter.
"You're not mad?" Clary asked.
"I'm not your father or brother. I'm happy for you sweetheart." Jocelyn hugged her daughter who instantly relaxed. "So who is he?"
"His name is Alec. He and his family are the ones who just moved in next door." Clary said.
"As in Isabelle's brother?" Jocelyn asked a little surprised.
"She's okay with it. Trust me we talked about this." Clary said.
"And he lives next door." Jocelyn pursed her lips. "Your father is going to love this."
"Yeah I figured you would come to the same conclusion. Can you help me break the news to him?" Clary asked.
"Of course sweetheart. When do you want to do it?" Jocelyn asked.
"How about tonight?" Clary asked her mother.
"Okay. After everyone is gone we will talk to him." Jocelyn hugged her daughter once more to reassure her things would be okay.
"Thanks mom." Clary said. "Let's go back before he explodes."
Clary laughed as she and her mother made their way downstairs. In the kitchen Valentine and Jon were still waiting for them. Maia and Izzy had already finished and were more than likely waiting upstairs for Clary. When Clary saw that the girls were gone she excused herself and left to go upstairs.
Valentine and Jon waited until Jocelyn settled back into the table to interrogate her.
"So what's going on?" Valentine asked his wife.
"Sweetheart I love you but I'm not going to tell you a word so drop it now or deal with the consequences." Jocelyn said as she finished her breakfast.
Jon just looked at his father. He knew better but he wasn't so sure his father did. Valentine took a moment and decided against asking again. He now knew something was up and he wasn't going to like it one bit.
The girls remained in Clarys room for the remainder of the day. They had many wonderful present s to open and clothes to try on. Clarys closet wasn't as massive as Izzys but it was close.
"What do you think?" Maia asked as she exited the closet with a hot pink mess of an outfit.
"It looks like something my mom would have worn in the 80's" Izzy said.
All the girls laughed. Maia began to pose for photos. Izzy and Clary were laughing as they took more photos.
"Okay okay. Enough pictures." Maia said as she went back inside the closet to change.
"Feeling better?" Izzy asked Clary.
"I was until you reminded me" Clary said as she lay down on a pile of clothes.
"Sorry but you have to be prepared. I mean we know Jon knows already so that helps. Your dad on the other hand is a whole new story." Izzy said.
"Yeah like he might go bat crap crazy." Maia said as she exited the closet in normal clothes.
"Please don't freak me out girls." Clary said as she draped a sweater over her head.
"We aren't trying to freak you out but you have to be prepared. Hell you don't know maybe he will be happy for you." The girls stared at Izzy as if she lost her mind.
"Never mind."
"I know you meant well Izzy but you don't know Mr. Morgenstern. I was here for the whole Sebastian thing. I thought he was going to explode." Maia said as she sat down next to Clary.
"Yeah. The good thing is that now we don't have to tell him about the other guys just about Alec." The girls took a moment to think about it and then nodded. "The only problem is going to be the fact that he lives next door."
Maia and Izzy made a face.
"Hopefully your mom can help with that fact." Izzy said.
"So when are you going to tell him?" Maia asked.
"As soon as you two leave. So why don't you two sleep over again." Clary said with a nervous smile.
"Oh no missy. It has to get done. Besides you have to talk to my brother. What is he going to do tomorrow? Just follow you around and pretend you two aren't together?"Izzy said as she crossed her arms determined to not let Clary chicken out.
Clary sighed. "I know. I'm just a chicken."
Maia moved next to her. "You're not a chicken. You just know how your dad is. It will be over before you know It."
"I hope so." Clary said.
"It will. So let's help you by leaving." Maia said as she and Izzy got up.
"What? No. Stay for a little while longer." Clary implored.
"Oh no, my brother deserves to say you're his girlfriend and not get killed for it." Izzy said as she crossed her arms.
Maia held back a snicker. Clary just exasperated.
"Fine. Let's get this over with." Clary said as Izzy jumped up and began to gather her things, she would be happy to tell her brother the good news.
Maia and Izzy had left and Clary was out of options. She wanted to wait until after dinner. Hopefully her dad would be easier to handle if he was full and moving slower.
Clary was with her mother in the kitchen getting the plates and utensils for the table.
"Mom I'm nervous." Clary said as she gathered the glasses.
"Don't be. You are growing up and they just have to get over it. Besides you deserve to be happy and live your life." Jocelyn said as she took the chicken out of the oven.
"You're right mom. I just hope dad takes it better this time." Clary said as she flashed back to the look on her father's face when she told him about Sebastian.
(Time skip to dinner being over)
"That was wonderful sweetheart." Valentine said to his wife as she simply blew him a kiss.
"Thank you. I made it just the way you like it." Jocelyn said as she got up and went to retrieve dessert. She came back into the dining room with a simple apple pie.
"Sweet. Do we have any ice cream?" Jon asked.
"I'm not sure. Maybe you should check." Jocelyn said as she began to cut the pie and give everyone a piece.
Jon reluctantly got up to check the fridge. He wanted to complain but he knew that tone of voice so he decided not to push it. Sadly for him there was none, the girls must have finished it.
"Apple pie too? What's the occasion?" Valentine asked dreading the answer. He knew something was up but he had no idea what.
"None. I guess I'm still in a celebratory mood after Clarys party." Jocelyn said nonchalantly as she served him a piece of pie.
"Oh. Well that's good." Valentine was sure something was up but he couldn't get a good read on his wife. She had always been good at keeping secrets. He inhaled the wonderful scent and his mouth watered. She always made amazing apple pie. Valentine immediately grabbed his spoon and took a big bite.
"Well, there may be one thing." Jocelyn said as Valentine stopped chewing. He knew something was up.
He swallowed his food. "What thing exactly?" Valentine asked not taking another bite of her traitorous pie.
"Clary?" Jocelyn simply said as she sat down. Jonathon took his seat as well knowing full well where this was going.
"Mom did all of this for me dad. She knew it would help soften the news." Clary said.
"What news?" Valentine interrupted.
"I have a boyfriend." Clary said holding her breath. She could feel her body temperature rising and her heart beating faster. Her father was a statue.
"Sweetheart?" Jocelyn asked when he didn't move.
"Who?" Valentine said in a gruff voice.
"His name is Alec Lightwood. He's Izzys brother." Clary said knowing full well which part he would focus on.
"He lives next door!" Valentine said finally moving as he slammed his hands on the table denting it with his spoon.
"Hey that's mahogany!" Jocelyn said as her husband dropped the spoon.
"Yes." Clary wanted to explain more but words seemed to runaway at the moment.
"Since when?" Valentine asked but it sounded more like a demand.
"Last night." Clary said and she could see his eyes catch fire. Jonathan went rigid. He knew he should have kept a closer eye on her but he was trying not to suffocate her. Thankfully for him he could recall all the moments she was out of his sight and none were long enough for any funny business to happen. Well, he hoped.
"I want to meet him and his parents." Valentine said.
Jocelyn saw her cue to jump in. "That's a wonderful idea sweetheart. We haven't had an opportunity to get to know our neighbors properly. Why not have a nice block party?"
Clary relaxed. She loved her mother. Her dad would be able to meet the neighbors and they would meet everyone else plus there would be witnesses just in case her dad wanted to get to know Alec a little too much.
"A party?" Valentine asked knowing she was taking precautions.
"Yes. It's been a month and I have only talked to Mrs. Lightwood a few times. This way they will meet everyone else and you won't be along with Clarys new boyfriend." Jocelyn said with a sly smile.
"You already thought this through didn't you?" Valentine asked.
Jocelyn didn't say anything but give her husband a 'duh' look. He knew at that moment he didn't have a say but he would sure as hell eventually talk to the boy alone. Jonathan would help him. Jonathan . . . . .
"Son, why are you so quiet?" Valentine asked and he could guess the answer by the way his son tensed.
"I kind of knew." Jonathan said looking away.
"What?" Valentine said in a gruff voice. This caught Jocelyn by surprise as well.
"I knew a guy was interested in her and her in him. She told me they decided to get to know each other first to see if there was anything worth committing to. I guess they finally decided and made it official. And yes I did check the guy out first. It helped that he's the overprotective big brother type too." Jon said and he could see his dad calm down. The lie was easy enough to say but it tasted like vile coming out of his mouth.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Valentine asked
Before Jon could answer Clary interrupted.
"Because it's my personal life and I asked him to keep quiet while we figured out if we wanted to date or not. I know it's hard for you dad but I'm right here and this concerns me not Jon so please do not ignore me as if I do not exist." Clary said with confidence in her voice that she didn't know where it came from. She wanted to hide at that moment but she refused to look weak in front of her father.
"Fine. Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Valentine asked Clary.
"We wanted to get to know each other first and that wasn't going to happen with you and Jon hovering so I hid it from you. You make it very hard to tell you anything. If I could I wouldn't have told you now but I respect you too much to go behind your back." Clary backed her chair away from the table and rose up.
"Mom I'm tired can I be excused?"
"Yes sweetie." Jocelyn said sweetly to her daughter and then glared at her husband.
Clary took her plate with her. She may be mad but she was still hungry. As soon as she was gone Valentine felt the air in the room change. His wife was a force to be reckoned with.
"If by the end of the night you two haven't made up you will be getting to know the couch better for the next month." Jocelyn simply stated as she finished her pie.
Valentine hated being so easily manipulated by his wife but he was wrong in how he handled this so he didn't really have a leg to stand on.
Ugh. Why does he have to be such a baby!
I know I'm his little girl but god! I swear I will move out first chance I get if he keeps this crap up. At least Jon tries.
Clary threw herself on her bed and stared at the ceiling. She probably had an hour before her dad would come into her room and 'apologize' for his behavior. Empty words since it would be clear to both of them that her mother would be behind the apology.
A buzz from her side table captured her attention. She had completely forgotten about her phone and it was full of texts from the girls.
Maia: So how's it going? Update girl.
Izzy: My brother wanted 2 talk 2 U so I gave him UR #
Clary looked through her messages and found one from an unknown number.
Alec: Hi. Isabelle gave me your number since I kind of forgot to ask for one last night.
Clary: It's okay. I forgot too. So everything okay?
Alec: Yeah. Just wondering how things are going over at your house since you said you would be telling your family about me.
Clary: Its going as I expected.
Alec: That doesn't sound reassuring.
Clary: It's fine. I know how my dad is and I know he will eventually come around. Have you told your family?
Alec: No. I'm waiting to see if I live past tomorrow and then I'll tell them. I'm sure your brother will find a way to talk to me.
Clary: He better not!
Alec: It will be fine. I would do the same as him if it was Isabelle.
Clary: I get it. So have you told your brother?
Alec: No. I have no idea how to handle that. Any ideas?
Clary: Nope. But I think I should tell them myself before we go public tomorrow. I should actually take care of that now so that they have tonight to process that tomorrow I will go public with you.
Alec: Okay that sounds good. If you hear yelling from my house ignore it. ;)
Clary: It won't come to that. I'm sure your brother can handle rejection.
Alec: Yeah.
Clary: Okay. I'll see you tomorrow.
Alec: Can't wait.
Clary took a deep breath and decided to just this over with. She had been upfront with all of them so they knew there would be a chance things weren't going to work out.
"You can do this. Don't be a chicken." Clary told herself.
Sebastian: Hey I just wanted to let you know before you heard from someone else that I decided to give Alec a chance. I hope it doesn't change anything between us.
Raphael: Hey I just wanted to let you know before you heard from someone else that I decided to give Alec a chance. I hope it doesn't change anything between us.
Jace: Hey I wanted to tell you before someone else told you that I decided to date your brother. I hope it doesn't change anything between the two of you.
Clary held her breath and waited for any of them to reply. She hated the feeling but she was hoping none of them were near their phones for a while.
"Alec." Clary heard from a distance.
She rushed to her window and peaked through the side to see what was going on. Across her window were Alec and a very pissed off Jace.
'His room is across mine?' Clary thought.
(Alecs room)
"I cannot believe she choose you!" Jace screamed as he marched up to his brother.
"What did you do? Tell her some sob story so she could go out with you out of pity?"
"I didn't have to resolve to tricks and lies to get her." Alec spat back at his brother.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Jace yelled back.
"It means that all you ever do is lie and cheat on every girl you ever get near." Alec spat not backing down from their little fight. He liked Clary and he wasn't going to back off because Jace can't handle rejection.
"It's not my fault all I ever have is girl after girl throwing themselves at me. So if I have to play fast and loose with the truth then it's only to keep them all happy." Jace said.
"Oh please, you just can't stand the thought that she chose me over you. That's what this is about, your bruised ego." Alec said.
"This has nothing to do with my ego! This is about you using a girl to convince yourself you aren't a fag!" Jace knew the instant those words left his mouth he would never be able to take them back.
SMACK
Alec punched Jace as hard as he could in the face and sent him flying back. He couldn't believe his own brother would cross that line.
Robert walked in at that moment wanting to know what all the commotion was about.
"What is going on in here?" Robert asked. "Jace what happened to your face?"
"Ask Alec." Jace said as he held his bleeding nose.
"Alec." Robert said.
"I punched him because he was being an ass. Apparently it's impossible for a girl to choose me over him." Alec said not wanting to repeat his brother's words.
"What?" Robert asked suddenly becoming hopeful at the current situation.
"We were both after the same girl and she chose to be my girlfriend and Jace can't handle it." Alec said glaring at his brother.
Robert remained stone faced but inside he was thrilled. Moving here was the best idea I have ever had. He thought
"Jace if this girl made her choice then I was her choice. You two shouldn't let that drive you apart."
Neither boy said a thing.
Robert exhaled.
"Fine. Jace go downstairs so Maryse can fix you up." Jace walked out. "Alec stay here and cool down. When you finally do calm down you are going to apologize. Fighting with your words is one thing but punching is another thing entirely." Robert said.
"I am not apologizing to that ass." Alec said.
"Oh yes you are. End of discussion." And with that Robert walked out.
"Oh fuck me." Alec said as he threw himself face first on his bed.
(Clarys room)
What the fuck. I cannot believe he punched him. I hope he had a good reason. Clary thought as she sat against the wall thinking of what she had just witnessed. She couldn't really hear everything but they looked and sounded angry from every other word she could make out.
(Knock knock)
"Come in." Clary said as she got up and walked to her favorite chair.
"Hi sweetheart." Valentine said as he entered her room.
"Hi dad. Here to apologize because mom threatened you." Clary said regretting her words since she was being snarky.
"Yes and no. I want to make things better between us." Valentine said as he ignored the jab at his expense.
"Dad I just want you to stop being you sometimes." Clary saw the hurt in her father's eyes. "Not like that. It's just that I hate having to repeat myself with you and Jon. If you two don't stop smothering me I swear you will drive me to sneak around behind your back and if I ever get in trouble I wouldn't come to you which might end up making it worse. I love you but I'm growing up and that includes lots of dating, having sex, moving out and eventually getting married."
Valentine was frozen. He hated the truth in his daughter's words but mostly the fact that she was thinking about sex. He was going to kill that boy.
A few moments went by in total silence. Clary didn't want to interrupt her father's thoughts. Plus she thought it would be backfire if he was trying to keep himself calm and she snapped him out of it.
"Apart from that horrible act of carnal desires that I never want to hear you reference ever again I understand your point. But I will never stop being this way. You are my little girl and the thought of another man taking you away from me drives me insane. I will meet him and not kill him but the moment I see him upset you I will kill him." Valentine said.
"Fine, and no you won't. I'll get to mom before you get to him." Clary said and she could see approval in her dad's eyes.
"Then I'll just have Jon kick his ass." Valentine said.
"Okay I can live with that." Clary said smiling. She walked over to her dad and just like that they made up. It may be an unconventional agreement but with her family she would take what she could get.
"Good. Now I can go ahead and tell your mom to stop making up the couch." Valentine said as he kissed her head goodbye.
"I knew it." Clary said with a smirk.
"Shh." Valentine said before he left her room.
Clary sat back on her bed and picked up her phone. She had four messages from all the guys.
Raphael: What can I say Hermosa other than I'm heartbroken but I am glad I took a chance to compete for your heart. I will still like to stay friends with you if it's okay.
Clary: Thank you for understanding and yes that would be okay with me.
Clary was happy Raphael had taken it well. She wondered how Alec would feel about them staying friends.
Sebastian: It's okay. I knew there was a chance I wouldn't get you back but its fine. I bet Simon is happy about that. JK. I hope we can still be friends.
Clary: Thank you for understanding and yes we can.
At least Sebastian was right about Simon. He would be thrilled she didn't pick Sebastian again. For some reason those two never clicked.
Jace: I can't say I'm not disappointed but just know I'll be here for you when my brother fucks up. ;-)
"Okay I definitely made the right choice not dating him." Clary said as she ignored Jace and opened Alec's text.
Alec: Well I wanted to wait to tell my family but Jace burst into my room mad as hell and ended up crossing the line so I punched him. It felt good until my dad came in and made me apologize. Needless to say now my whole family knows.
Clary: Wow. Well as for the whole fight thing I admit I saw some of it. I was hoping it wasn't because of me.
Alec: You could hear us?
Clary: Not really maybe every other word. I can't believe you hit him.
Alec: He crossed a line. But I do feel bad about it. Isabelle laughed when she found out. Apparently she only has a problem with the fact that she missed it.
Clary: LOL of course she would. So what did your family say when they found out about me?
Alec: My parents want to meet you and Max is thrilled. Apparently he's happy 'the pretty girl' will be around more often.
Clary: Awwe. Max is so cute. As for your parents I will meet them soon enough. My mom wants to organize a block party.
Alec: Wow. I'm guessing your dad will eventually corner me.
Clary: Yes, I'm glad you're prepared for that.
Alec: I was already expecting that. I understand so don't worry about it. So did you already tell the others?
Clary: Yeah. They all took it well and hope we can still be friends. Well, all except your brother.
Alec: So I guess I will be spending more time with my girlfriend? ;)
Clary: (Blushing) Yes. Get ready to have the whole school staring at you.
Alec: They will only be looking at you.
Clary: Then I can't wait for tomorrow.
Alec: Me neither. Well I hate to cut this short but I have to get ready for bed. I know it's early but I didn't sleep well last night.
Clary: I understand. Goodnight Alec.
Alec: Goodnight Clary.
Clary drops her phone on the nightstand and plugs it in to charge. She can't wait until they get to know each other better so their conversations flow easily. Clary decides to gather her clothes to shower. If he's calling a night then so am I. You can never get too much beauty sleep.
Yes I have finally updated. I am so sorry it took me this long. I was done a week ago but I kept adding to the chapter. I couldn't help it. It just kept growing. Hope this one is to all of your liking's. Let me know in the reviews
Muah love hearing from you guys.
