Monday September 1st

Clary woke up happy and very anxious. Today was the day the entire school would know who she was dating. It was a bit nerve wrecking and a bit daunting given the fact that her brother will more than likely be watching her like a hawk.

Clary decided not to over dress since she would more than likely bring more attention to them and today was track and she was finally able to run again. It was agonizing just watching from the sidelines. She packed her gym bag with everything she needed and wore a simple baby blue top to match Alec's eyes with a flowing black cardigan and dark skinny jeans.

"Here goes nothing." Clary said as she walked out of her room ready to start the day.

(Alec's house)

Things were very tense in the Lightwood home since the boys had their little 'chat'. Robert had already made it clear to Alec that he was still to drive his siblings back and forth. That wasn't changing. Sadly for Alec he had no choice in the matter.

"So what are you two doing?" Isabelle asked Alec as he finished washing his dishes.

"We aren't planning on holding a press release if that's what you are implying. We are simply going to keep with how things have been going." Alec said calmly when in his mind he was going crazy. He had no idea what to expect or even do. They had never even shared a kiss.

"I never meant that but it would be cool to watch everyone's reaction to the fact that you're alive and not six feet under the soccer field." Isabelle said in a teasing voice as she exited the kitchen. She knew just how to rattle his cage.

'Thanks for the pep talk Iz.' Alec thought to himself.

After a few more minutes Alec went outside to wait in the car for his siblings. He wanted a little privacy.

Alec: Are you ready?
Clary: Yes and no. Yes for school. No, for everyone staring and talking. You?
Alec: I just want to go ahead and walk into school hand in hand with you and not give a damn of whose watching.
Clary: Well now I'm blushing.
Alec: Wish I could see it.
Clary: You will, the moment we get stared at it will happen on its own.
Alec: Can't wait then. Are you driving your brother?
Clary: Yes! I get to test out my baby. Plus dad wants Jon there with me.
Alec: I can't say I disagree.
Clary: Hey.
Alec: I mean it because of your safety.
Clary: I hope so.
Alec: I see my sister coming. I will see you at school.

Clary:
Okay see you there.

Alec put his phone away and mentally prepared himself to have a very awkward car ride.

Isabelle and Jace climbed into the car without a word and Alec took off. He didn't want to prolong the time any more than he had to.

(School parking lot)

Jace could not get out of the car fast enough. He was desperate to get away from his brother as fast as he could. Even though he had crossed the line the night before he still wasn't going to apologize. He couldn't understand what had happened. He had already come to terms with his brothers 'preferences' when they had to move so it wasn't that. It was that now he was with a girl and a girl he wanted.

Jace didn't want to stay like this with his brother but he needed to know what the hell was going on. If anyone was going to use Clary then it might as well be him. At least he would give the poor girl a nice time.

Isabelle watched Jace walk off and thought 'good riddance'. She thought about staying behind to wait for Clary with her brother but decided to give them some time alone. It would probably be the only time they would have to talk before the whole school would be all up in their business.

"Hey are you two going to the cafeteria?" Izzy asked her brother.

"I don't know. We'll see." Alec replied as he waited in the driver's seat.

"Okay I'll see you later." Izzy said as she walked away. She didn't like not to have a real answer but given that both of them are a little tense at the day ahead she decided to leave it. Besides today was going to be anything but boring.

Alec waited for a few minutes inside his car. His hands were itching to grab the phone and text Clary but he decided against it. He didn't want to seem desperate. Besides she might be a slow driver given it's a new car and the first time she has driven it. Just when Alec was going to decided to wait by the front door of the school he saw Clarys Escalade entering the parking lot with a very distraught looking Jon.

Clary parked in the same row as him and before she could put the car in park Jon bolted out of it. He seemed happy to be on land. Alec couldn't help but laugh. Clary might not be the slow driver he thought she would be.

Jon walked over to his sister's side and helped her out of the SUV. Then he made sure the car was in park and the keys were out. He kissed her on the top of her carrot top head and walked away. When he passed Alec's car he stiffened and quickened his pace. He didn't want to see anything.

Alec was waiting at the back of his Mercedes for Clary. She looked happy to see him and he relished in it.

"So what was wrong with Jon?" Alec asked needing to know why he bolted from a moving car.

"He was exaggerating. He drives much faster than I do so when I finally got to drive he freaks out." Clary said.

"I'm sure that was it." Alec said.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Clary asked.

"Oh nothing. I just hope when I'm in your car I make it home." Alec said with a small laugh.

Clarys heart leaped at his laugh. She was happy to see his smile. He should do it more often.
"Keep up the back talk and you won't make it to the car." Clary replied.

"Okay okay. So are you ready?" Alec asked suddenly feeling his heart rate sky rocket.

"Not really but then again I don't think it's something you can be ready for. Let's just take it one step at a time." Clary said as she extended her hand towards Alec.

Alec gladly grabbed her hand. He didn't want to let go.
"Let the staring begin." Alec said as he and Clary walked hand in hand into the school.

"Oh my god."

"Are you seeing this?"

"He's a dead man."

"Take a picture but don't let them see you take it."

"Are they dating?"

"Where the hell is Jon when you need him."

"This is going to be a good day."

Clary and Alec heard it all. Both of them became very self conscious by the time the bell rang. They didn't have enough time to make it to the cafeteria so Alec took her to her class instead. Alec dropped her off at Math class and they parted ways. He wanted to kiss her goodbye but they weren't there yet. He didn't want to push her if she wasn't ready plus he didn't want to have an audience when he finally did kiss her for the first time.

(Math class with Simon)

Simon waited patiently for Clary to arrive to class. He had known what was happening when Maia and Izzy filled him in during breakfast.

"How was your morning?" Simon asked Clary as she blushed slightly.

"I felt like I was on display the whole time." Clary replied as she sat down and ignored the people whispering.

"Did you really expect any different? I'm sure the conversation with Jon and your dad was worse." Simon said trying to get a bit of information out of his friend.

"It was better than when I told them about Sebastian. My dad wasn't happy about the whole 'he lives next door' thing." Clary said as she remembered how he stabbed the table.

"I figured but since he is still alive I figured you and your mom must have worked some sort of magic to keep him from being murdered." Simon said ever so cocky. He definitely knew her father.

"Shut up. I just hope the excitement dies down a little by the end of the day. I want to get to know him better but it's hard when everyone wants to spy on us." Clary said as she prepared her notes for class.

"It will. As soon as people see the two of you and Jon together with no killing things will slowly calm down." Simon said.

"Oh great, so I have to wait for a miracle." Clary said as she looked down at her notes and began to doodle on the edges. It was her only form of escape from her thoughts at the moment.

Simon hated to see his friend so upset over something that would take a miracle to happen. He couldn't talk to angels themselves for such a miracle but he could work his own type of magic.

(Lunch)

Simon decided to spend his lunch somewhere else today. After seeing his best friend in such distress he arranged for Jon to meet him outside so they could both have lunch and a private discussion away from prying eyes.

"What was so important that I had to spend my lunch time here?" Jon asked peeved that he had to miss out on lunch with his boys and seeing if Clary was okay.

"It's about Clary Jon." Simon said and caught Jon's attention.

"She's fine so calm down. She just feels overwhelmed with everyone staring at her and Alec. And she isn't imagining things. All day I have had people asking me questions about them. They aren't subtle about it either. Most of the gossip revolves around you too. They want to be there when you kill him. It's stressing Clary out. She wants to get to know him better but it's hard when the whole school is watching them like vultures." Simon said finishing his rant.

Jon was happy about some things but the thought of people stressing Clary out because of what he will do is a scary thought. It's as if none of thought he could be happy for her.
"What can I do?" Jon asked.

"I know you may not like it but just talk to Alec." Jon stiffened, he didn't like the idea of being friendly.
"I know it's a repulsive thought but it will help with the rumors and it would be for Clary so I'm sure you can manage to fake decorum." Simon said as he glared at Jon. He knew he could never kick his ass but when it came to Clary he could muster the courage to make the knuckle head listen.

"When?" Jon said choosing to think of his words.

"Today, after lunch when they walk back to class together. People need to see you interacting with both of them without anything happening." Simon said as he took a bite of his sandwich.

"Fine. But what the hell am I supposed to talk to her about?" Jon asked as he racked his brain trying to think of a topic that wouldn't want to make him kill Alec.

"Today is the first day Clary gets to go back to track after her fall. Alec has track with her so I'm sure you will both be on the same page about her taking it easy." Simon said nonchalantly as if it was obvious.

Jon hadn't even thought of that. In his extreme distaste towards Alec he had forgotten about Clarys injury. He needed to get back on track.
"Okay. We only have a little left so let's go back and when the bell rings ill talk to both of them." Simon turned and looked at him quizzically. "AND nothing will happen to stress Clary out." Jon added when he realized what Simon was waiting for.

"Thank you. I will let you know if anything else happens with Clary." Simon said as he gathered his things and walked inside the cafeteria so he and Jon wouldn't be seen together. There was nothing wrong if they were it would just add to more rumors and he wanted to avoid that today.

(Bell rings for 5th period)

"So what's your next class?" Alec asked Clary as they both put up their trays.

"P.E." Clary answered.

"Is something wrong?" Alec asked when he noticed her fidgeting

"It's the staring. Plus it didn't help that Jon was absent from this lunch period." Clary said hoping her brother was going out of his way to avoid her. Out of nowhere Clary squealed as she was lifted into the air by an unknown person.

Alec was ready to punch the asshole that dared scare her but when he noticed a familiar shade of white hair he stopped himself.

Jon put Clary down and was happy to have gotten attention their way with his little stunt. People were very clearly hanging back to see what would happen.

"Jon what the hell was that for?" Clary asked when she regained her breath. She was hoping he wasn't mad at her.

"Just wanted to see if you were okay. If you can get breathless so easily then maybe you should skip practice today." Jon said as he looked at his sister.

"I am fine. It's been a week and I haven't had any symptoms. And I am not going another day without track. I feel like I'm going through withdrawal just thinking about it." Clary said as she thought about having to wait two more days for the next practice.

"I just wanted to make sure since I won't be able to keep an eye on you today." Jon said as he caressed Clary cheek. He wished he hadn't forgotten about her well being.

"I will be fine. Besides Alec will be with me today." Clary said hoping she hadn't made Jon angry with that comment.

"Yes he will." Jon said as he looked at Clary. "You will be looking out for her today right?" Jon asked Alec directly.

"Of course. No one will let her continue if she even hints at exhaustion." Alec said calmly to Jon. He made it a point to not break eye contact and keep his posture firm. He didn't want her brother to think of him as a coward who couldn't take care of her.

"Good." Jon said to Alec. "Glad to know someone will be looking after you today clear bear." Jon said to Clary.

Clary was relieved. She wanted to jump for joy at the incredible gift her brother had just given her.
"Yup. I'll be fine." Clary said as she hugged Jon. 'Thank you.' She whispered in his ear.

"You should hurry up and get to class." Jon said as they separated. He met Alec's eyes and simply nodded.

"See you later then." Clary said as she held Alecs arm tighter as they walked away.

"See? There was nothing to worry about." Alec said as he put his arm around Clary as he led her to the Gym.

"Yeah you were right." Clary said as she felt the weight on her mind melt away.

Everyone who had stayed to watch the fight was simply stumped. They had never seen Jon cool and calm. They definitely did not expect Alec to survive. They obviously had gotten some wrong information.
Slowly people began to move and some seemed to forget to whole matter while others just wanted to know what the hell happened after the party for Jon to be so calm.

The only three people who didn't give a damn about what was happening with Clary were Kaelie, Camille and Seelie. They were finally rid of her and she ended up picking someone other than their beloveds. They now had a clear path to their guys and Clary was no longer a priority to them.

Clary and Alec should really enjoy their happiness. It may be good for now but we never know what the future holds.

I told myself this was going to be a short chapter but it just kept growing.
I mention in my other Story that I am PREGNANT. Yes I hope to continue writing now that no one in my family lets me do anything. (Sigh) I have just recently heard the baby's heartbeat this past Thursday. It doesn't seem real but it is. I am so excited. I will continue to write as long as morning sickness and overall moodiness doesn't stop me. I thought people joked about how bad it was. THEY WEREN'T. I love/hate it.

Well, let me know what you all thought of this chapter in the reviews. I love reading what you all think and I always try to reply to all of them.
I will continue to write about this day in the next chapter.
