Chapter Nineteen
The Government
Disclaimer: I do not own Sailor Moon.
With the tip of her finger, a dark haired woman lifted up Serena's eyelids with her fingertip as she examined Serena's eyeballs with a small flashlight. "Who is she? Why did you bring her here?" She questioned the dark haired man in the room standing in the room across from her. The woman backed away as she clicked off the flashlight.
"I don't know. She was following me."
Serena slowly regained consciousness to the sound of a man and woman talking over her. She was on a gurney in dark room with a light fixture hanging loosely from the ceiling over her head. Her hands and legs were restrained with belts tied tightly around her wrists and ankles. She saw two blurry faces standing over her body on opposite sides on the gurney. Their faces became sharper. One was the man from the white room. The other was a beautiful young woman with piercing dark blue eyes and long dark hair that fell perfectly to the small of her back. She looked like the female version of her captor with her high cheekbones with pouty red lips.
With his hand pressed firmly against the railing of her bed and his blue eyes glaring at hers, her captor demanded, "Are you a humanoid?"
Serena looked at him confused. Before Serena could utter a word, the woman answered flippantly, "Of course she isn't a humanoid. She doesn't have a speck of red in her eyes."
The man glanced across the woman who stood on the other side of the bed and questioned, "Then why was she following me?"
Serena asked weakly, "Who are you and what am I doing here?"
The man glared down at her. "That's what I want to know."
Serena lifted up her hands. They were restrained by the belts. She cried, "Let me go!" She wriggled around on the gurney trying to free herself.
Her captor glanced over to the woman ignoring Serena, "She could be a spy for the government."
Serena snapped angrily, "I am not a spy. I don't know what's going on." She begged, "Please let me go." She turned to the man who captured her and pleaded at him with her eyes.
He stared back at Serena for a moment. He sensed no malice inside of her. He inhaled then exhaled deeply. He slowly unbuckled her against the woman's wishes.
Serena sat up in the bed rubbing her sore wrists. She thanked him.
The man probed in a curious tone, "Who are you?"
Serena worried that if she said her name then they would alert the police. To the world, she was still a fugitive wanted for murder of a mother and her small children. She quickly thought of a name for herself. She said, "Alex." An amused smile appeared across her captor's lips. Serena did not know why.
The guy smiled. "My name is Cain." He pointed to the woman. "This is my sister Evelyn." Serena looked at him slightly amused. He joked, "My family was very religious and had a strange sense of humor." She relaxed when she sensed no danger from the two siblings. He helped her off the bed.
Serena looked around at the siblings. "How old are you?"
Evelyn answered. "Twenty-eight Cain and I are twins." Cain smirked. Evelyn teased, "He's the oldest by two hours. He never lets me forget that." She turned to smirking Cain.
Serena smiled. They seemed like good people and she sensed no evil in them. Yet, she did sense a powerful aura in them. They looked human but were something more than human.
Cain apologized, "Sorry about earlier. I thought you were a humanoid."
Serena asked, "What's a humanoid?"
Cain answered. "Clones of deceased humans created by the government to kill off the human race, and replace them with replicas of themselves that continued to live the lives of the deceased humans without any freewill. They are completely subservient to the government. Their job is to keep the top one percent of the population wealthy and kill off any human that resists or threatens the authority of the government like the girls that they are accused of killing that woman and her children."
Serena stared at them stunned. They knew it was a setup. She asked eagerly, "You know they're innocent?"
Evelyn said dismissively, "Of course we know that. It was clearly a set up for the girls. But they will capture the girls and executed them."
"What! Can't the girls prove their innocence?"
Evelyn snickered. "Those girls' lives are over. The government probably has eyes on the girls' families and loved ones now. If the girls make contact, the government will kill them on the spot. They are being framed by the government, the powers that be. The heads of states, politicians, judges, the police, and the military are all part of the government. There is no way the girls can clear their names. The only way out for them is death." Serena's eyes widen. A sense of hope died inside of her, knowing that she will never be able to clear her name or Raye's.
Serena asked sadly, "What is the government?"
Evelyn said, "Your world no longer has any borders that divided you. Everything is global and interconnected with one another. The heads of the countries of the world have been secretly merging together for years to form one central government called simply, the government. It is controlled by the richest and most powerful people in the world. The called themselves The New World Régime. They are worshippers of Dragon."
Serena asked confused, "Dragon?"
Evelyn interjected, "Dragon is the son of demonic god Satan and current ruler of the Underworld or the devil as mortals call him. He wants to control the world and finally arise from the netherworld as the supreme ruler of the universe. "
Cain said, "His power is growing stronger and soon the gateway to hell will open. He will walk on land once again and the Earth will become Hell and inhabited by the creatures of the Underworld." Serena gulped.
Serena asked, "Can the government be defeated?"
Evelyn said, "It's easier said than done. They already controlled practically all of Western Hemisphere. They are making a pilgrimage to the East."
Cain said gaining Serena's undivided attention, "The girls are from Tokyo." Serena stiffened as she listened to his words. "The East has resisted the influence from the West so far. But if they allow the West to come in and search for the girls, the New World Regime will take over the entire world and Dragon will have enough followers and sacrifices to open the gateway of hell."
Serena asked, "How are they doing it?"
Cain explained, "Whenever humans die, the government collects the bodies and clones the bodies with all of the memories of the human's past life intact. Humanoids have all the abilities of human beings except the ability to procreate or free will. They can read thoughts with a simple touch. They let out a banshee scream to alert other humanoids of danger or fugitive humans on the loose. They have super strength and are extremely fast. They have no souls. They are completely submissive to their master, The New World Regime, followers of Dragon. The more followers Dragon has, the stronger he becomes. The only way to tell them apart from humans is that they have a speck of red in their eyes."
Serena wondered if Andrew was one and if he did that to his wife and children. She recalled she saw it in someone else's eyes before but she could not think of whom.
Cain continued, "It makes them completely submissive. Men became submissive to their masters. Their wives became submissive to their husbands with no ambition but to please their husbands and bear their children. Children became perfect and obedient, even the most disruptive child became docile to authority." Serena remembered how perfect Andrew's children were compared to her disruptive ones.
Serena said quietly, "It takes away their free will."
Cain and Evelyn nodded. Serena looked up at the siblings. She felt she could trust them. "I came here because an old friend came to me. I haven't seen him in years. It's his spirit and it's corporal. We can touch, see, and talk to him, but it's not really him. I am one of the girls that the government is searching for." They stared at her in astonishment. "We came here because we think our friend is in trouble. Every time we tried to ask him what happened and why he was there, he shut down. We came here to find out what happened to him and to find out his real body. The woman that we are accused of murdering is his wife. She told us that he died on the Fourth of July by jumping out of a window. It was the Fourth of July that he appeared to us after not seeing or hearing from him for eight years. We did not kill her or her children. We saw a fleck of red in her eyes. We were not there for a good thirty minutes before the police burst into the apartment trying to kill us. His wife and her children let out this banshee scream that almost made our ears bleed. We barely made it out alive and an hour later we watch the news to see that we are being accused of murder."
Cain and Evelyn remained silent as they glanced at one another then back at Serena with an intrigued look in their cobalt eyes.
Cain entertained her question even though the look of his sister's face agreed that the brunette in front of them was crazy. "Okay, let's say that your story is true. If your friend astral projected himself to you and corporal, then he is not dead. He's still alive." Serena sighed in relief. "As far as your friend's wife and children, they are all dead. The fleck of the red in their eyes and the banshee scream means that they were killed and replaced with humanoid lookalikes taking over their lives." Serena felt sad. She was relieved that these people knew that she did not kill Rita and the children, but sad that Rita and her children were dead. Andrew's wife and children were dead. Rita was a good person, an excellent role model, and had two beautiful children. She also knew from the looks on their faces that they still thought she was crazy when she mentioned that she was the one of the fugitive girls.
Evelyn said, "He can't speak about what happened to him, because if he does, he'll disappear." Serena's eyes widen.
Raye walked through hallways the hospital. She informed a nurse that she was there to see if the John Doe was her missing brother. She noticed that the patients, doctors, and everyone else in the hospitals had flecks of red in their eyes. The majority of the hospital had it. She could tell the ones who did not have it. They displayed emotions when they became upset or hollered and screamed as the nurses tried to restrain them. When Raye passed them again, they were calm and smiling happily at the nurses and doctors.
She rode the elevator to the fourth floor and a nurse informed her that John Doe was in Room 1821. The nurse held the door opened as Raye stepped into the freezing cold room. Raye covered her mouth in horror as she saw a comatose man wrapped in a full body cast from his hair to his feet looking like a mummy. His legs and arms were propped up on slings. His body had tubes and wires attached to it and the monitors beeped slowly and steady. The saline slowly dripped from the IV. Raye slowly walked towards the bed with teary eyes. The only thing not wrapped was his eyes. They were closed and her eyelids were lightly bruised and red.
Raye knew the nurse was still standing in the doorway. She gently caressed his arm that was encased tightly. Raye asked hoarsely, "Has he shown any sign of improvement since?"
The nurse said, "No ma'am. He's still alive but hasn't woken up yet."
Lita breathed heavily as Andrew caught the staff with one hand and overpowered her as he slowly got to his feet still holding his bruised side as they stared at one another. He took the staff from Lita and tossed it to the side. The girls watched the scene peeking out from side of a building.
He stared at Lita with eyes that were full of hurt and pain. He said as his eyes became watery, "I can't tell you, Lita." He took a step towards her. She tried to punch him again. He grabbed her hand overpowering her. She used her other hand. He took it too. He pulled her closer to him until they were inches apart. He whispered, "If I tell you, I disappear forever." She could tell he was telling the truth.
Lita froze and stopped resisting him. She asked, "What do you mean?"
Andrew cupped her cheek with his hand. "You're right. I'm not really Andrew. I am his essence. I am lying in some hospital bed in a coma that I cannot wake up from. I am stuck on the astral plane between the world of the living and the world of the dead. I cannot move on. I thought of you to make me feel better. Because anytime I feel sad or lonely, I think of you. I remembered something about a moment you and I share at the Crown. I don't know how I got here or why I am here. All I know is that I thought of seeing you again before I die and the next thing I knew I was here back in Tokyo sitting at a table waiting for you." He laughed sadly. "But if you want me to leave, I'll leave. I'll tell you what you and everyone else want to know, and then I can move on."
Lita stared into the green eyes as tears threatened to fall. "Ask me again." Lita closed her eyes a tear fell from the corner of her eye. He gently ran his hand over her bangs. He smiled. "I've always wanted to do that." Lita slowly opened her eyes. He was starting to become translucent. She could see right through his body. Lita gasped. He smiled at her.
The monitors started to beep erratically. Raye cried in horror as his body started to crash. The nurse quickly rushed over to him as Raye cried, "What's going on?" Doctors and nurses raced into the room.
Lita asked, "What's going on? You're fading."
Andrew smiled. "I'm dying. I feel light." Another tear fell from her eye. "Lita, you deserve better than Nick. Don't let him take away your joy. Nothing is wrong with you. You're perfect."
He started to fade away. She could no longer hold the tears back. The only man that she truly loved was dying right before her eyes. The tears began to fall. She was going to lose him again, but this time he would never return. Lita cried as she tried to touch him. Her hands went through him. She began to cry hysterically, "I don't care, Andrew. Don't leave again! I love you."
Andrew stared at her. She was standing before him telling him that she loved him. "Lita…"
Lita cried. "Fight…wake up! Come back to me." She sobbed before him.
"Andrew!" He was shocked when he saw Rita standing off to the corner with their children. She looked beautiful clad in a flowing white gown. His daughter Amber and son AJ were dressed in white also. She reached out her hand towards him. She begged, "Come with me! We need you!"
Amber and AJ cried. His heart wept for them. He'll be with his family again. AJ begged, "Daddy, come with us!"
Amber cried, "Daddy, don't leave us!"
Andrew said, "Rita! Amber! AJ!" Lita looked to the spot where Andrew was staring. She saw no one.
"Andrew?" He turned back to Lita as his wife and children began to fade away. He took a step towards them and stopped when he felt Lita's hand on his body. His transparent hand touched hers.
Sarah, Rini, and Katie watched hiding behind the corner of a building with emotional eyes at the scene. Sarah's disdain for Andrew disappeared. The crescent moon symbol appeared on Katie's forehead. A powerful entity took over her body. She slowly strode passed her sister and Sarah and across the grounds to Andrew and Lita. Katie stopped in front of Andrew. Katie placed her hand on top of Andrew's hand. A yellow glow appeared around her body. Andrew stared at the little girl as lightness took over him.
Raye watched as the doctors did everything they could to save him as his body began to flat line. Raye watched helplessly as she saw Andrew slowly die in front of her as he continued to flat line. The doctors desperately tried to get a pulse. Everything froze for a moment and became silent. Serena appeared in the room with a heavenly golden aura around her. She glanced at Raye frozen with fear in the corner. She glanced down at Andrew and smiled. The crescent moon appeared on her forehead as she gently placed a hand on his heart. A yellow glow appeared on her body.
Lita cried as Andrew closed his eyes and disappeared in front of her. The crescent moon disappeared from Katie's head and the little girl collapsed exhausted. Lita quickly caught her as she held her tightly in her arms.
Serena watched as Andrew's body slowly started to heal. His broken bones healed and the redness and bruises around his eyes healed. The monitor started beeping again. Serena looked over at Raye. She held out her other hand unfreezing her. Raye gasped as she unfroze seeing the doctors frozen around her and Serena still in disguise with the crescent moon on her forehead and a yellow aura around her body and Andrew's. "Come on, Raye."
Raye looked at Andrew as she walked towards the bed. "What did you do?"
Serena said, "I healed him. If we don't get him out of here, they are going to turn him into one of them." Raye touched Andrew's arm. They disappeared. Everything returned to normal and doctors were flabbergasted when they saw no body and the black haired girl gone also.
Rita along with Interpol officers burst into the hotel room that Serena and Raye shared. Central Intelligence agents reported having listened to several phones calls from this room inquiring about Andrew Furuhata's whereabouts. They asked the receptionist who booked them the room about their appearance, but her memories were wiped clean. She was taken down to a local police station for a lie detector test and it was determined that she was telling the truth. Rita smacked her lips when the room was found clean, and they were not there.
Andrew woke up on a gurney in a dark room with a light fixture hanging over his head. He jumped up shouting Lita's name hitting his head against the light fixture. He groaned in pain as he rubbed his forehead. He looked at his arms and saw that there were no bandages.
"You really need to take it easy, Andy." He turned to his right and saw a girl with a short black bob approaching him. He did not recognize this girl but she knew his name.
Andy looked confused. He asked, "Who are you, and how do you know who I am?"
The girl became angry and yelled, "After all I have done for you, and you don't remember me, Andrew?"
The girl sounded bossy like Raye. He asked hesitantly, "Raye?"
She smiled. She looked like a totally different person. He remembered being in Japan even though it seemed like a dream. He remembered the girls transforming into the sailor scouts. He asked, "Did you get plastic surgery? You look different."
Raye blushed. "I'm sorry. I forgot that I was in disguise."
Andrew asked, "Why do you look that way?"
Raye answered, "Because the government thinks that Serena and I killed your wife and kids so we are fugitives from the law. They know our identities so we had to disguise ourselves."
Andrew shook his head. "Rita and the children died a year ago in a small plane crash when Rita took them with her on assignment to Cairo, Egypt. I was supposed to go but I had to work that weekend and my boss would not give me the time off since I used it so many times with AJ since he was a sickly child. Rita was upset with me when I told her I could not go. We got into this huge argument where I accused her of loving her job more than me and her children. It was the last thing I ever said to her. To prove me wrong, she decided to take the children with her. It was last the time I ever saw them. They were killed two days later. I identified the bodies, buried them, and even have their death certificates." He looked at a Raye that looked at him apologetic. He smiled. "I'm okay, Raye. My point is that they cannot accuse you of killing my family because my family is already dead."
Raye asked, "So who were the people in the house?"
Andrew shook his head. "Clones of my family. They appeared on a few days before Fourth of July claiming to be my family. I went from disbelief, denial and soon found myself weeping with joy. It was the happiest I have been in over a year since their deaths. Then I started to notice oddities about them. My wife was too prefect and agreeable. The children were angels. Rita wanted to return to work, and I told her that I did not want her to, just to see how she would react. She quickly agreed with me. My Rita would never let me tell her what she could or could not do. My children were horrible and constantly talked back to me. She cooked and cleaned. My Rita could not cook to save her life and she hated cleaning. Then, she was desperately trying to make love to me. I did not want to because the thought of having sex with my dead wife was weird to me. Then, I saw the fragment of red in their eyes. When they realized that I knew they were not human, they tried to turn me into one of them. They surrounded me with no way out so I jumped out of the window instead of becoming one of them."
Raye said, "I'm sorry about that Andrew."
Andrew smiled. "The death certificates are at the apartment on the bookshelf."
"That's a negative." Cain walked into the room along with Evelyn and Serena.
Andrew and Raye stared at him. Cain said, "You are dealing with the government. FBI, CIA, Interpol, MI6, and every other law enforcement in the Western World are at their disposal. Do you honestly think they would forget something as simple as a death certificate? Your family's records have been destroyed. Your home has been destroyed. To go back there is a suicide trip and pointless."
Raye spat out angrily, "Then what the hell do you expect us to do?"
Cain said, "I expect you to not be stupid." Raye frowned at him. Her eyes turned red.
Serena rushed over to Raye and Andrew. She placed a hand on Raye calming her down. Raye's eyes returned to normal.
She smiled at Andrew. He glanced at her. He asked, "Do I know you?"
Serena whispered, "It's me, meatball head. The one who healed you." Andrew smiled happily as he hugged her.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
Evelyn cleared her throat as Andrew and Serena broke away from each other. Andrew held Serena's hand. Cain noticed that.
Evelyn said, "If you really want to get your lives back, help us stop the gates of Hell from opening."
Raye directed her eyes to the ground. Evelyn noticed her. Evelyn said, "You have seen the end of days."
Evelyn looked at her brother as he stared at Raye. Evelyn turned to her brothers. "She's psychic. She has seen the judgment day when the Earthlings are destroyed."
Cain said with his arms folded across his chest. "What did you see?"
Raye told them about her dream. Andrew looked horrified. He turned to Cain and asked, "When is Judgment Day?"
Cain said, "Very soon. The New World Regime is becoming more powerful every day." He added slightly amused as he stared directly at Andrew. "Thanks to you, they would have control of the Eastern Hemisphere sooner than expected." Andrew frowned then diverted his eyes knowing that Cain was right. If Serena and Raye had not come to save him, then the government would not be heading east to find them, at least not as soon.
Raye asked the siblings, "Who are you? You are more than human."
Cain and Evelyn stared at one another like they were deciding on whether they should tell them the truth. Evelyn nodded at Cain in agreement. Cain turned to Andrew, Serena, and Raye.
He said, "I am Prince Alexander of Earth." Serena realized why he was amused earlier. She used his real name as her alias. "This is my twin sister Princess Evelyn. Everyone calls me Cain. We are the descendants of the Earth King from the House of Endyimon." Serena's eyes widen as Cain stared directly at her. "For thousands of years, our family has watched over the Earth from our home world of Elysian, a world within the Earth."
Evelyn interjected vehemently, "For over one thousand years, my family has watched without interference as humans destroyed this world including your own kind and the animals, the water, and the land. The Earth is angry and is righting itself. In two years, the Earth will eradicate all land creatures and become a water planet." Andrew grew annoyed by the arrogance in their voices like they were better than human beings because they were Elysians.
Raye said, "That means all the humans including the animals will be destroyed. Is there anything that we can do to change this?"
Cain said in a nonchalant tone, "No. It's been set in stone. The Earth will be destroyed thanks to the greed and corruption of humankind. We have to right things before the planet is destroyed."
Andrew said angrily, "So you have no problem with mankind being eradicated? You are only worried about the Earth itself being destroyed."
Cain said apathetically, "Precisely, what you do to yourselves does not concern us, but it affects us when the Earth is about to be destroyed and Dragon is about to rise from hell."
Serena asked, "What can we do to save mankind?"
Cain looked at Serena. "Why would you want to save humans, Alex?" Andrew and Raye stared at one another wondering why he was calling Serena, Alex. "Your poor are becoming poorer and starving to death while the rich become wealthier with insatiable greed. The education, government, church and business…every sector of your world has been corrupted with sin and filth. Worshippers of materialism have overtaken your world. Your people have sold their souls to the devil for greed. This world will be destroyed."
Serena declared angrily, "It will not. Yes, my world is not perfect, but there are still good people in it. And as long as there is hope, there is a chance to make it a better world. So I will not give up on my people or my world. So I ask you again, what can we do to save this world?"
Cain said, "There is nothing that you can do, Alex. You can help us stop the devil, but that is it. The decision to destroy this world is Mother Nature not manmade."
Serena closed her eyes. She could not believe there was nothing that she could do to save this planet. She stopped the apocalypse nine times. She would save it again.
Raye asked, "How will the Earth be destroyed?" Serena opened her eyes. Had Raye given up?
Evelyn said, "Fires, hurricanes, twisters in the West. Typhoons, tsunami, and earthquakes in the East. Like in the Bible, human kind will be eradicated. After Judgment Day, the Earth will rain for forty days and forty nights until it will become a paradise once more like it was in the time of Elysian."
Raye said, "The apocalypse will destroy mankind. Indirectly, it would destroy the New World Regime prolonging the devil from rising from the Underworld." Cain nodded and smiled. He sensed she understood their purpose. "So if Mother Nature will take care of your problem with Dragon, then why are you here? Nature will solve your problem. Humankind will be destroyed."
Cain said impressed, "You are correct, Earthling. But your vision still hasn't come to past yet."
Raye said, "So mankind will not be destroyed on Judgment Day. In my vision, it's not Mother Nature that destroys mankind and this planet, it's something else."
Andrew asked, "So humankind will survive? How if the planet will become a water world? Humans need oxygen to live."
Cain said to Andrew, "That is up to you to figure out. That's not my concern." Andrew scowled at Cain, not hiding his disdain for the Elysian prince. Cain glared amused at the human man.
Serena asked Cain, "So why are you here?" Cain turned his attention from Andrew back to Serena. "You don't care about saving humankind or Judgment Day. All you care about is saving the Earth so your people can continue to exist. Humankind being destroyed on Judgment Day solves your problem with the devil. So why are you here?"
Evelyn answered looking at the three of them, "To find our brother before he is destroyed along with the humans on Judgment Day and return him home to our world."
Cain stared deeply in Serena's eyes. Raye and Andrew were completely oblivious to him. "Twenty-two years ago, our eldest brother came down to the Earth with my parents King Henry and Queen Katherine II." Serena listened in disbelief. "They were in a car accident and instantly died. We all thought that my brother died along with them. Over the last eight years, we have been sensing someone of Elysian descent using powers only members of our family possessed. We did some research and we found out that our brother survived."
Serena started to fall to pieces inside. She remembered making love to Darien around the time that Katie was conceived. He used to his power to closed the door so Rini would not walk in on them. The other time she recalled was the night she told him Katie was not his.
"We want to find him before humankind is destroyed. His name was-"
Serena finished, "Endyimon."
Cain and Evelyn looked stunned. Cain asked, "How did you-"
Serena said to both of them, "I know who your brother is. His Earth name is Darien Shields." Andrew and Raye looked at Serena in amazement.
Evelyn asked relieved, "Do you know where he is? We cannot sense his presence."
Serena smiled, "Of course I do. He is a friend of mine." She did not need to tell him that she was his soon to be ex-wife and the mother of his children.
Evelyn sighed relieved as a beautiful smile appeared on her beautiful face. "Please tell us Alex." She pleaded longingly, "Where is our brother?"
Serena looked at them. "I will tell you where Endyimon is in exchange for one thing."
Before Evelyn could speak, an amused Cain asked Serena a question that he already knew the answer to. "What is it that you want, Alex?"
Serena smiled. "You help me save the Earth and mankind, and I will tell you where Endyimon is." Cain and Serena stared at one another. Cain stared at her searching for any sign of weakness to see if she was bluffing. Did she really know where his brother was?
After a moment of silence, Cain said, "Well played, Alex. We'll help you save the mortals and in exchange, you will give us Endyimon."
Serena happily smiled. "Deal." Cain and Evelyn walked off. They were going to help Serena save her world and the humans. Now, all she had to do was find out where her husband was?
