Epilogue
"…Hey! You're finally awake!" a woman's voice exclaimed.
I weakly open my eyes and find myself on a soft bed. I scan around the room and see a woman sitting on a wooden chair next to me. The brown skinned woman has onyx eyes and black wild hair held in a long ponytail. She wears a blue sleeveless shirt and baggy pants, a black belt, and black and white boots. What surprises the most is the long brown tail wrapped around her waist.
"I swear, I thought you were dead! But somehow, you still remained healthy without two weeks of food! Speaking of food…!" She places a large plate of food on a table on my bedside. "…Here ya go! Now don't eat too fast, or else you'll eat yourself sick!"
I slowly raise myself and place my hand on my aching head. "Where am I?"
"In my Capsule House in the middle of Star Forest," the woman said simply, "By the way, the name's Chō. What's your name?"
"I'm… I'm Kurai…"
"Nice to meet you, Kurai," Chō greeted, "You had me really worried. I honestly wasn't expecting to catch a falling green girl from the sky. You mind telling me what that was all about?"
I sigh before I respond. "I really have no idea. You see, I lost most of my memories somehow. One moment I'm running from somebody during the night, next I'm waking up in the middle of a barren area with people saying things about a father and a brother of mine…"
"Do you have any idea who they are?"
I try to remember anything about my past, but sadly fail. "…No, I don't. But for some reason, something in my gut is telling me I don't want to know them… When these people kept saying these things about them, I got so scared I panicked. So…"
"…You ran away…" Chō finished.
"Yeah…" I look down to my ruby necklace. "I somehow flew all the way here until this necklace drained all my power and lose consciousness."
"So basically you're saying that your necklace might have something to do with your memory loss and nearly falling to your death."
I turn to the woman with shock shown on my face. "Y-Yeah… I know it sounds insane…"
"Trust me," Chō interrupted with a calm look on her face, "I've had my share of strange things happen in my life. This…eh…its almost up to my list of top insane things I've seen. Anyways, why don't you just take it off?"
"I've tried!" I exclaimed frustratingly, "This stupid thing won't come off! And why are you so calm about this?! You've just met me and you're taking all of this too easily! I know I lose my memory, but I at least know this isn't normal!"
Suddenly, the woman laughs wholeheartedly. "Kurai, there's no such thing as normal on this planet!" She sighs with a grin as she scoots closer to my side. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Look, I'm not the kind of person to judge immorally. You seem like a good kid and it seems like you don't have anywhere else to go. How about you stay with me for awhile?"
My eyes widen with shock. "What?"
"Well, do ya want to? I don't mind any company."
"But we barely know each other!"
"We can learn about each other while we're together. It'll be fun!"
What is this lady's deal? She saves me, nurse me back to health, and now offering a place to stay! I'm appreciate all the trouble she went through for doing this for me, but…this is just too crazy!
Soon enough, my head starts hurting again. "This is too much…"
"You had a hard day," Chō said with concern, "Look, I'll take care of you and try to help you get your memory back. How does that sound?"
"I still don't understand why you're being so nice to me?" I look up to her with pure confusion and disbelief on my face. "Why? Why are you doing all of this?"
Chō smiles warmly to me. "Because I see a scared little girl that needs all the help she can get. If I were in your position, I would want somebody to do the same. I don't know a lot about you, but I can tell you've been through hell. You may not understand, but I want to help you Kurai. No matter what."
I don't know why, but this feels like I haven't had this kindness in a long time…or ever… But I feel my eyes watering up, quickly staining my face with tears. My body slowly starts to shake until finally… I break down…
"…Kurai?"
"Thank…you…" I stuttered quietly, "Thank you…"
As I cry erratically, I feel a warm embrace around my body. I raise my head a little to find Chō hugging me tightly, thus making me cry even harder. I cry and gasp for what felt like forever until I feel my body getting heavy. Chō lays me down gently on my bed and covers me up with a soft blanket.
"Goodnight Kurai…" I hear Chō whisper softly.
Finally, for what felt like an eternity, I close my eyes and fall into a sleep slumber…in peace…
