Seth looked at Roman, sitting on the floor cradling his head in despair. He knew how his friend felt. Nothing would make this better except the woman in the other room. Knowing it was a huge risk on many levels, he headed down the hall to her closed door. Tapping with the tips of his fingers, Seth didn't wait for her to acknowledge his request before he cracked the door open. "Mira? MiraBeth? It's Seth. I just want to come in and talk for a few minutes."

"I'm really not in the mood, Seth. And I am not ready to play hostess right now." Seth opened the door wide enough to enter and then closed it behind him. Leaning against the door, his heart hurt for the woman curled in a ball on her bed. A brief thought of where he stood made him send a prayer heavenward that her gun was nowhere near the bed and that he wasn't going to get shot for being in her room.

Stepping slowly and cautiously, Seth moved to the foot of her bed and sat. "Mira, I just want to talk to you. I know I am Roman's friend but you are his woman. He loves you and needs you in order to be happy. If I can come up with a way to fix this…"

From her side she peered at him incredulously. "A way to fix this? Did you seriously just say you were in here to come up with a way to fix this?" Seth turned and propped one leg on her bed. MiraBeth scooted back on the bed and leaned against the headboard, crossing her arms over her chest. "You, his friend, came in here, to see how to fix this. You claim he loves me and needs me yet he isn't here. That speaks volumes, Seth."

"No. No, no, no." Seth quickly denied. "Think about it. How many times has he dropped everything and been here for you? Hell, he was doing that same thing tonight when I screwed this up."

"Seth…"

He reached out and touched her foot. "Just listen. I was there when he came in to see Vince. That statement just doesn't do it justice, hon. You have to understand the mood Vince was in because of me. You obviously know about the picture fiasco...Yeah, well Vince was loaded for bear and I was in his cross-hairs. Rightly so, I might add. All of the sudden the door crashes open and Roman rushes in telling Vince that he wants to help you."

MiraBeth leaned forward and slapped the bed with both hands. "That's just it! Why did he decide that I need to come work for the WWE? I am a police officer. That is what I do. Yes, it is going to be difficult going back to work after that call and I would love to have Roman here for emotional support on my first day back, but that doesn't mean that I am ready to throw in the towel and say 'screw it I want a new job'. I am not a cream puff. I am a tough, independent woman."

"I swear to you, MiraBeth, Roman did not mean to insinuate that you were a cream puff. That man respects you! He will go to the ends of the earth for you. If he knew that he made you think for a second that you… that he thought you were less than… he would… God, I don't even want to think about what he would do." Seth pulled her closer by her ankle. "Consider what he tried to do when he knew you were in emotional distress going back on shift. The man put his career, his livelihood on the line for you. Then he got saddled with me. He reluctantly brought me along because Vince gave him no other alternative. I was to stay in the living room, out of the way while he went in to you and walked you through this plan. Then we got here and things didn't quite go according to plan." He patted her foot again. "He has been back-tracking ever since. And I have been in the way."

MiraBeth jumped off her bed and stormed to the end of the bed, standing in front of Seth with her hands on her hips. "So it is all your fault that I held a loaded gun on the love of my life tonight? And it is your fault that he couldn't tell me that he had gotten me a job with the WWE? You are even taking responsibility for the fact that he is sitting out there pouting by himself while you are in here trying to put your friend and his girlfriend back on track. Who the hell does that?"

"Someone who recently screwed his life up unbelievably bad and knows the value of having a friend steady by my side. I am a pariah in the WWE. Roman was willing to let me be a third wheel and come along when he came after you. True, Vince didn't give him much choice, but Roman didn't blink. I value that man. If I can help him…"

MiraBeth put her hand on Seth's shoulder. "You've done all you can. I appreciate your attempt, Seth. But this is Roman's mess to fix and he knows where I am. If he wants to fix it then he can come in here." Seth stood and wrapped the sad woman in a light hug.

Seth jumped and looked over his shoulder as the bedroom door slammed open. "What the hell is going on? Get your d*mn hands off her!" Before MiraBeth or Seth could utter a sound, Roman was across the room and had his friend jacked up against the wall.
