"Can you believe? The nerve. I thought he was my friend!" Roman made it into the room before he exploded. His suitcase landed near the bed. His carry on hit the floor on the other side of the room and exploded, its contents scattering all over the floor. "I ought to go down there and…"
"No, you really shouldn't." Seth said quietly as he set his things beside the other bed and began picking up Roman's things.
"Why the h*ll not? That's MY woman in his room. She's MINE and he'd better stay away from her. No one comes near her but ME. MY WOMAN should be in a room with ME so we can figure out…"
Seth turned from his position on the floor. "Are you listening to yourself? You do sound like a Neanderthal. Just like Tarzan. 'Me Tarzan. You Jane. My woman. I spear man who look at MY woman. Ooh Ooh Aah.'" Seth started dragging his knuckles on the floor as he walked around in his crouched position. "Is it any wonder she wants a breather?"
Roman collapsed on the end of his bed. He sat so still Seth wondered what he was getting ready to do. Was this a precursor to another explosion? He really hoped not. Carefully gathering Roman's scattered belongings, Seth sat them on the dresser. Then he gathered the pieces of the broken case and sat that on the table. He doubted it would be fixable, but he'd look at it later. Now that the floor was cleaned, he stood up straight and moved his suitcase to the corner of the room before turning back to the still-unmoving Roman. Cautiously he sat beside the broken man. "I can't lose her, Seth."
"I know." He put his arm around Roman's shoulders. "I know, man."
"I'm sorry I jumped to conclusions and attacked you." Seth looked up from his plate of room service food at the man on the other bed. "At MiraBeth's house, when you were giving her a hug and I threw you against the wall. I am sorry. I was wrong." Seth nodded. "I should have known that you were my friend and that you had my back." Seth nodded again. "You were listening to her, the way I should have."
Seth pushed his food around on his plate. "As soon as I went in I told her I was trying to come up with a way to fix things for the two of you. The way that I saw things, you two looked pretty good until you crossed the country and entered her house in the middle of the night with me. If we hadn't been talking, she wouldn't have gotten up with a gun and been so angry. You would have been able to talk to her the way you wanted to and life would be perfectly fine. That meant this was my fault and I needed to help you two try to fix this."
"It's not you, Seth." Roman sighed sadly. "It's me."
"It's both of you." Seth corrected. "That's what she and I had been talking about. I saw how devastated you were. Your feelings were out there and plainly obvious. I've never heard you say how you feel about MiraBeth, but I think I know. That's why you are fighting so hard for her. That's why I went in there for you." He set his plate on the bed. "I reminded her of all the times you have dropped everything and rushed to her side, including yesterday. You faced off with an angry Vince McMahon on her behalf. Right or wrong, facing off with Vince when he was in that mindset said a lot about your feelings for her. And I told her that, too, in great detail."
"I should have talked to her about the job first." Roman hung his head.
"Yy-yy-yyeah. Probably should have. Given the way she took it, I'd say she needed some explanation prior to the job offer. But that was still an amazing gesture that you made, taking care of your woman like that." Seth tried to put a positive spin on it knowing how down Roman was.
"How did she take it? What did she say?"
"I am not going to repeat everything that MiraBeth told me. The two of you need to talk. What I will say is that she didn't take this as a sign of you wanting to spend time together or being protective of her." Seth explained.
Roman scratched the back of his neck. "You are a good guy, Seth. A great friend. I am so sorry that I neglected our friendship and hurt you so badly over the last 24 hours. It won't happen again. Believe that." His eyes widened as something dawned on him. "No…" His face blanched. Seth leaped from one bed to the other, fearing Roman was going to faint. "Tell me she didn't think I… She didn't think this job offer was because I didn't believe… That I lost faith in her… That I think she can't be a… She can't handle… Oh, God, no… No, no, no, no… This isn't happening."
