woOP okay, i finished this last night- but my mouse ran out of batteries so I had to change em this morning so I could post this chapter! :D My brain's gone into overdrive giving me plot ideas in order to write and finish this story so I can get onto my other projects! Finally, enough of the filler and into some ACTION! (I hatE writing non-action or non fluffy filler- like JUST information chaptERS are so long and hard to write)
Anyway- I'm projecting the estimated finish time for approximately two weeks if things go my way. Hopefully no more than a month. Oh yeah- and I've been watching a heck ton of Sherlock so- it's not my fault in later chapters if I may mention offhandedly some stuff from the show.
(Did I mention I'm back in school? I'm a senior in high school now! I can't even comprehend it)

Chapter Nineteen
After Nick Fury ended his session with the World Security Council, someone else decided to start a session with them. That gutsy person's name would be Pierce. Alexander Pierce. He had been hearing of the recent events in New York and decided to intercede with the Council. They, on the other hand, agreed to meet without Director Fury's knowledge.
"What is the current plan of action?" Pierce inquired of the Council, crossing his arms.
"Director Fury has informed us of a last-effort plan that he is preparing with the help of Dr. Selvig," the councilwoman explained. "We have given him no more than three days to execute his plans before overriding his authority on this matter."
"What else has he said?" Alexander inquired, knowing there was more than what met the eye, or in this case, the ear. The Council members all glanced at each other, silently debating with one another. Finally, one spoke up.
"He mentioned something of a new variable," the Councilman explained slowly.
"What about a new variable?" the councilor questioned.
"Fury said that it could be a valuable and interesting asset, but he said nothing more than that. Our reports have said that he was in possession of an individual who blew up the detention level just recently."
Pierce's eyes widened just slightly, and he smirked ever so slightly.
"Alright then. Thank you for this information," he replied, preparing to shut off the Council. "This meeting is over."
Hanging up with the five Council members, Pierce hummed in contemplation.
"Computer, render the Helicarrier's security footage," the councilor ordered, putting on his glasses.
"Security footage obtained," the cool voice of the computer replied, bringing up various video files. Pierce scanned over them, until his eyes caught on one that looked like it was in the middle of an explosion.
"Play File D: 02322."
"Loading file."
Within moments the computer displayed the footage of the detention level, white hallways patrolled by four S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Pierce watched as merely seconds later, the walls exploded with a strange blue energy, blasting the agents to the wall. A bright blue ball of energy emerged from the room that was behind the walls, now blasted apart. One of the agents managed to stay conscious and feebly held up his gun at the mass of energy that became more to the shape of a teenage girl.
The agent said something- and the videos were visual only, but Pierce could guess that he said something of, "Stay where you are!"-and then the girl balled her fists. She shook them in apparent anger, and in seconds, another surge of energy erupted from her and scorched the area, knocking the agent unconscious with the others.
Pierce put his hand to his chin and let a bit of his curiosity grow in a thoughtful smile.
"Hmm, interesting asset indeed."
Meanwhile, back on the Helicarrier, Bruce was watching Selvig as he continued to tinker on this machine. The astrophysicist had moved to another more sterile lab in the flying fortress and was surrounded by other tools and mechanics. Bruce raised his eyebrows at Selvig working so dutifully.
"Do you need any help with that, Doctor, I'd be glad to assist you in any way," the gamma scientist offered, coming closer. Erik gave the gamma scientist a relieved smile.
"Anything you can offer is much appreciated, Dr. Banner," Dr. Selvig replied gratefully. Bruce smiled warmly and grabbed tools from the side table.
"It would be helpful to know what you're doing so I can help in any way I can," Bruce suggested, his curiosity piquing. The astrophysicist took a deep breath, and then turned to face the gamma radiation scientist.
"This, Dr. Banner, as you see, is what remains of the portal generator," Dr. Selvig began to explain. "I built it to enhance and stabilize the power of the Tesseract. But I've studied enough about the Tesseract's energy and I figured, if I rewire the circuitry and restructure the device, I could reverse the effects! Drawing out the Tesseract energy and containing it- like a storage vacuum! Theoretically speaking, this could also help your friend break whatever has come over her from the Tesseract's influence."
Bruce was visibly stunned for a moment.
"That sounds…incredible," he remarked, inspired but cautious. "How certain are you this will work?" Erik sighed a moment, eyes hard.
"To be honest, Dr. Banner, I'm not 100% certain. Not of anything really, after what happened," the astrophysicist admitted tiredly. Selvig narrowed his eyes fiercely. "But I can assure you, I'm pretty damn close!"
Bruce was inspired by Selvig's dedication to his work, and the two of them worked harmoniously on the device. After a few more hours, Tony stopped by and offered his help as well, and the trio of brilliant minds worked diligently with fires burning in their hearts.
Where Loki's prison once was, the four other heroes congregated, discussing what Fury had directed them. More like Steve, Clint, and Natasha, though, as Thor was very disheartened and barely spoke a word the whole time. The God of Thunder was much too occupied with recent events. His thoughts were swimming in dark circles.
If he hadn't been so foolish in the first place, he would have never incited his brother's wrath and brought him to Earth, sacrificing innocent human lives and even if Lady Tori had still come when she had, she would have not gotten mixed up in the mess that he started. The hatred that Loki felt towards him…was he really so blind to have not seen it grow and at least try and prevent it?
"Thor!"
The Asgardian was startled by a black glove lightly hitting him in the face and snapping him back to reality. He glanced at the floor, where the accused glove fell and then up to Natasha, who now only wore one glove, Clint, and Steve.
"We've been calling your name for five minutes," the super spy remarked, gazing at her teammate quizzically.
"You alright there, Thor?" Clint asked, his arms crossed. Thor nodded slowly.
"I am…just concerned, Barton," he fibbed, his face impassive. "I am worried for what is to come."
"We all are big guy," Steve replied in a low voice. It got quiet for a moment again.
"I'm worried about Tori," the archer murmured. "Who knows what Loki's planning to use her for? She's just a damn kid for chrissakes!" Thor's expression became grim.
"I would not like to think about that."
Back in the lab, the trio of brilliant men were dutifully constructing away on the repurposed device. For about the fifth time in the past twenty minutes of their work, Dr. Selvig yawned loudly. Bruce and Tony exchanged glances.
"Banner and I can take it from here, Dr. Selvig," Tony assured with a knowing smile of determination. "You should get some rest; you probably need it after you've had Antlers prancing around in your brain." Selvig quickly shook his head.
"No, I'm fine, I have to finish-!"
"You've not slept or eaten for days, Dr. Selvig, besides, Tony's right," Bruce chimed in. "It's almost finished anyway, you can count on us."
Unable to refuse the word of two of the greatest minds, he conceded, gratefully smiling and leaving the room to get some well-deserved sleep. Not very long after the astrophysicist left, the remaining four heroes entered the room, remaining dutifully with their colleagues through the night as they finished the device.
As the sun rose on the next day, the heroes were stirred from their focus by an incoming message from an unknown source. Slowly, they made their way over to the screen and gathered around as Tony hit the 'Accept' button. A distorted voice crackled a bit on the line before a throat was heard clearing.
"Greetings, heroes," the snide voice of the God of Mischief announced, the quality of his voice wavering in and out. "It's time we address the Final Problem, and solve it. I will meet you where it all began, and this will end where it all began. I'll be waiting."
The transmission cut and the six heroes stood in silence, all glancing at each other. Silently speaking with facial expressions, they all understood what they had to do. They all left the room and met with Fury, giving them the same look they had all given each other.
The Director simply nodded and returned their look with a firm gesture of his own.
The party of six ventured to the hangar, where with one final glance at each other, all but Tony climbed in a Quinjet and all of them headed straight for the rendezvous point: the destroyed P.E.G.A.S.U.S. lab.
There, as they arrived, they all laid eyes upon the sight that they hoped they wouldn't see: Loki standing proudly among the rubble of the destruction his arrival had caused, with Tori by his side, her eyes glowing that sickly pulsating blue and a hard blank glare plastered on her normally cheery face.
The trickster grinned maliciously as the heroes landed and stood facing them. He gave a curt nod to the teen beside him, and to the Avengers' shock, she let loose a bright beam of energy that destroyed the Quinjet.
"Can't have you making any quick getaways now," Loki chuckled, and all glared at him. "This ends now, Avengers. There will be no escape."
"Funny," Captain America remarked, though nothing but a scowl was on his face. "That's exactly what we were gonna say."
dUN DUN DUN witty comeback by Steve Rogers everybody- *applause*
There were two more references to non-Avengers popular culture in that last little tidbit; I'll give you a hint for the second one since the first will probably be obvious. The second one is also from a Marvel movie but older and not in the MCU. My first Marvel fav actually ;)
The epic climax is cOMING! PrePARE YOURSELVES FOR ACTION! AND ALSO FEELS! THERE WILL BE FEELS! *flickers lights dramatically whilst laughing*
Reviews are love everyone! Please feel free to rant or ask questions if there was something you didn't understand or just want to know! (I'm four reviews away from 100! maybe before the next update we could hit it? *hopeful smile* )
