Chapter 5

"How's the French toast baby?" Julie asked her daughter and she sipped her coffee.

Julie had taken Gracie to Murphy's Diner for breakfast since it was the closest place to the Charming Police station. Julie had planned on talking to the new sheriff and getting her take on Tara's murder, and hoped that maybe she would get some answers.

"It's good mommy, have a bite" the little girl said as she held the fork out to her mom.

Julie nodded and took a bite.

"Hmmm, that is yummy" she replied grinning at her baby girl.

"Did you make up with your friend last night mommy?" Gracie asked suddenly.

"Yeah, I did baby" Julie replied still not believing the way that Chibs had gotten to her the night before.

Even after ten years, it amazed her that she still felt some kind of pull towards Chibs Telford. She'd thought that all those feelings had died years ago, she'd tried moving on with Adam, but that hadn't worked out so well. Even though Adam had given her the best little girl on the planet, she had always known that they were never meant to be together forever.

"Mommy, can I?" Gracie asked breaking Julie's thoughts.

"What? Sorry sweetie, Mommy wasn't paying attention" she said.

"Can I go play with Abel again today?" the little girl asked softly.

"I don't know, Mommy has to get some work done, but we might go and see him later, okay?" Julie answered finally.

Gracie nodded her head and continued eating her breakfast while her mommy finished drinking her coffee.

Julie had been so focused on her own thoughts that she hadn't noticed that the very last person she wanted to see had walked into the diner and was making his way toward her.

"Well this is a surprise. You come home and don't even tell your own father, is that how I taught you how to behave?" Jacob Sr. asked as he looked at his youngest child.

"Well I wouldn't know, I mean you haven't exactly earned a visit have you?" Julie shot back angrily.

"Well I know I didn't raise my daughter to speak to me like that. But who is this little lady?" The older man asked suddenly.

Julie knew that her little girl had never really been shy around strangers, but this was the one time where she wished that she was. Unfortunately, luck was not on her side.

"I'm Gracie" the little girl said with a smile.

"Well Gracie, I'm your Grandpa Jacob." Jacob replied matching the little girl's smile with one of his own.

Julie felt her body go stiff at these words. She quickly spoke up giving the confused little girl a tight smile. "Hey sweetface why don't you go to the restroom and wash your hands. You've got maple syrup all over them."

Gracie's brow furrowed farther so confused by this entire encounter with her as yet unheard of Grandpa Jacob.

She turned to her mother defiance in her eyes obviously so tempted to get to the bottom of this entire absurd conversation. "I only have one grandpa...Grampy Frank."

Julie felt her stomach twist at these words; the mention of Adam's father Frank or as Gracie had always called him Grampy just as she'd always called Adam's mother Grammy. Frank was the only grandfather Gracie had ever known and Julie had always intended to keep it that way.

"We'll talk about this later babe. Just go wash up." Julie responded trying her best to keep her voice light.

Gracie rolled her eyes at this order reluctantly scooting out of her booth seat and making her way to the restroom.

Julie tightened her jaw reassuring herself that the girl would be just fine on her own. After all the bathroom was only a few feet away and it was positioned in full view of Julie's booth. She could see everyone entering and leaving the tiny lady's restroom.

She turned to her father as the man spoke an amused chuckle escaping his throat. "She's got your attitude."

He quickly spoke again his shoulder's drooping as he all too well looked the part of the hurt father who'd had his heart broken by his daughter. "She doesn't even know who I am?"

"You lost that damn right a long time ago." Julie snapped as she reached for her purse all too eager to snatch up her check and leave a tip before she got the hell out of this diner and this conversation.

"I don't remember you having such a foul mouth" Jacob replied as he took Gracie's seat.

Julie shook her head her voice filled with venom. "Like you'd even know how foul my mouth is."

"And whose fault is that. You haven't spoken to me in so long. I didn't even know you were back in town until Phil down at the corner store mentioned he saw you." Jacob remarked shoving back Gracie's syrupy plate.

Julie rolled her eyes as she spat back. "And whose fault is that?"

Jacob frowned the chill in his daughter's eyes doing little to guilt him. "You're never going to let that go are you? I was just looking out for you. That's what a father is supposed to do when his little girl is dating riff raff. That Scottish prick was dangerous Julie. I was just looking out for you and it worked out. Look at you a cushy job as a lawyer, a gorgeous kid. I think I did what was right."

"Oh so that's your excuse? Take it and shove it. I stand by what I said back then." Julie snapped her mind all too easily going back years before to the day she'd disowned her father.

Julie did her best to apply a thin line of silver eyeliner over her right eyelid without smearing it. She cursed under her breath as she did just what she was trying to avoid the eyeliner pencil jutting upwards.

She tossed the damned pencil down on her old wooden vanity picking up a cotton ball and fixing the damage.

She'd always hated attempting to do her makeup. She had never been the kind of girl that sat around and experimented with makeup with her friends.

Back when she was at that age where a girl started taking interest in that sort of thing Julie hadn't cared for it one bit. She would have much rather been swimming at the country club or riding her bike or out practicing for softball season.

Now though she found herself wishing she'd let Donna and Tara play makeover on her a little more often.

She looked up from her old vanity as her boyfriend entered the bedroom a frustrated frown on his face as he struggled with a silver tie.

Julie chuckled as he spoke a huff escaping his mouth. "Fuckin Bobby probably gave me this thing on purpose. Can't tie it worth hell."

She shook her head tossing her cotton ball into the little trashcan she kept by her vanity. "It was a gift from his ex-wife."

Julie had heard Bobby refer to his ex-wife Precious as that red headed rattlesnake more than once, so she had the feeling that Precious' opinion on Bobby wasn't too sunny either.

"Aye probably hexed." Chibs groaned as he once again failed to untangle the mess.

He hadn't worn a tie since he was a lad and back then his ma had been the one who'd always tied it for him along with placing a little grey newsboy cap over his head.

Julie made her way over to him placing her hands over his fumbling ones her hands looking so tiny against his.

She quickly untangled the tie taking him completely by shock as she slid it right off of him and tossed it over on to the unmade bed without even blinking an eye.

She unfastened a few of his shirt buttons just enough to show a hint of the million dollar bill tattoo at the center of his chest. She examined her work a small grin on her face as she spoke up. "There much better."

Chibs raised an eyebrow totally stunned by this action. "Aint this some fancy dinner love?"

"Yes, but I want you to look like yourself." Julie replied knowing that he looked so much more like himself without the tie.

He'd worn a nice pair of black jeans, a black button down dress shirt, and his newest pair of boots.

He had been almost tempted to go out and buy himself a suit, but Julie had somehow talked him right out of that plan.

He sighed unsure if he looked quite like he belonged on her arm. She was dressed so nicely in a little lilac dress and a silvery gray cardigan that probably cost more than what he'd spent on his entire outfit.

Most of the clothing she was wearing tonight had been gifts from her father of course. She usually stuck most of it in the back of her closet in garment bags, but she knew enough that her dad would have plenty to say if she showed up to tonight's dinner in her usual choice of jeans and sneakers.

Tonight was a huge deal to Chibs. It was Thanksgiving and that meant that this year he wouldn't be spending his night over at Clay and Gemma's house at their annual Thanksgiving dinner.

Tonight he would be dining with Julie's father and brothers. This was the first time he'd really had the chance to really sit down with them with Julie.

He'd only met David Hale so far, and to be honest Chibs thought the guy was a pompous jerk. He just hoped that perhaps Julie's family would like him if they saw just how much Julie meant to him.

He knew it was a long shot of course. People like him didn't mix with people like the Hales. He was willing to give it a shot for Julie though.

He hated to admit it, but he wanted for Julie's father to like him. He wanted it so bad he could taste it.

Chibs had decided that maybe he could plead his case to Jacob Hale Sr. Perhaps he could express just how much Julie meant to him.

He had already planned out all the things he wanted to say in his head. That Julie made his world seem brighter. She was his sunshine through all the bullshit in life. She made him smile, genuinely smile and laugh for the first time in so long. She made him want to plan for the future. She had given him hope for a future that was filled with something other than violence and heartache.

Julie was the most wonderful human being he'd ever met. She was equal parts gorgeous and intelligent. She was sweet; always looking out for him and everyone else in her life.

She meant everything to him.

He just prayed that somehow Jacob Hale could see that he truly did care for Julie.

Of course Chibs knew that most of his prayers usually went unanswered. He had a feeling that this prayer for acceptance from Julie's family would just be another one of his unanswered prayers.

It was a strange feeling; wanting to be accepted so badly. After all he was a Son. And a Son didn't give a flying fuck if anyone liked them or not.

Chibs couldn't follow that logic with Julie though. She was special, and Chibs wanted the man who had played a part in creating someone who he adored so much to know just how much he loved her.

Julie kept his hands in hers always so amazed at just how much she adored this particular feature of his so much.

She knew it was strange but she found his hands sexy. She liked the way they felt against her skin, how they moved so sure of themselves when it came to pleasing her.

She liked that his hands were a little rough and calloused. He had the hands of someone who worked and worked hard.

It was so different from hands she was used to touching; hands of those who had never known a true day of hard work in their privileged lives.

Julie prayed that tonight would go over well.

She knew that her father and her brothers weren't exactly thrilled that she'd fallen for a Son.

She knew her father thought that she was living below her potential. He'd been on her case to go back to school since she'd dropped out. He thought she was wasting her life with some outlaw bum.

Her oldest brother Jacob Jr. assumed she was just experimenting with the wild side of life. He thought she'd grow out of it all and fall back into line.

David of course thought she was walking a thin line between a safe conventional life and a life ruined by the violence of the MC. He had already outright expressed his displeasure over her choices.

She could remember the words he'd spoken to her I'm worried about you Julie. You're my little sister. I don't want you to fall into a mess you can't clean up. That club and that man is going to lead you down a bad path.

Julie had shut David down when he'd tried to preach the wrongs of her choices. She knew he loved her and he worried.

He was right to worry of course. Julie wasn't an idiot. She knew that the Sons' world wasn't always safe.

David didn't see what she saw though. The Sons and their inner-circle were a family. They looked out for each other when times got rough. They loved one another. They looked after each other's children. They had cookouts and birthday parties and holidays.

It wasn't all pain and violence. There was love there too.

In Julie's opinion nothing in life was 100 percent safe. To be honest she felt safe with Chibs and SAMCRO. She knew she was one of them. They took care of their own.

Of course Julie knew her father was embarrassed by her. She wasn't blind to the gossip around Charming.

After all small towns seemed to be filled to the brim with gossip and whispered secrets.

She knew how people saw her; a spoilt poor little rich girl who was trying her father's patience by running with a wild crowd. Oh if only she could be more like her brothers. Her poor father he mustn't have any calm nights. He must be so ashamed.

Julie was pulled from her thoughts as Chibs spoke unable to stop himself from teasing her as he nodded down to her tall silver high heels. "Ya goin to be able to ride in those love?"

"I think I can manage. I'm just going to be on the backseat. It's not like I'm going to be propping up that monster you call a bike." Julie remarked hoping that she wasn't just bluffing.

She silently reminded herself to grab her denim jacket for the bike ride or she'd freeze her ass off before she got to her dad's house.

Julie leaned up pressing a kiss to Chibs' cheek as she spoke her voice picking up a sultry tone. "If I get cold you can just warm me up when we get home tonight."

Chibs grinned his hands sneaking down to squeeze her backside. "Don't tempt me Jules or we might not even make it to yer folks place tonight."

Julie shook her head sighing. "Don't tempt me buddy. I would much rather curl up in bed with my man and pig out on that pumpkin pie Gemma sent us while watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving."

He gave her a nervous smile sensing that they both harbored the same fears about tonight. He spoke shaking his head. "Awe lass that's not a Thanksgivin."

"Oh what do you know you're Scottish." Julie teased a small smirk on her lips.

"Hey my firs real American holiday was Thanksgivin." Chibs remarked giving her a playful nudge to the shoulder.

"I never knew that." Julie remarked raising her eyebrows as she nudged him right back.

"Aye it was wonderful. I was grouchy as fuck though...I'd only been in the states fer a few weeks. I hated California...missed Ireland like crazy. Thanksgivin dinner at Gemma's was the firs time I felt like I was home...jus sittin down to a big meal made it all okay ya know."

Julie gave him a soft smile understanding. She wished she could say that she shared fond memories of Thanksgiving, but that would be a gigantic lie.

For Julie Thanksgiving meant tense family dinners with short intervals of arguing.

She spoke again shaking her head. "I can't say I feel the same babe. Thanksgiving is the worst."

"Ya don't like it?" Chibs asked

"Nope. It's such bullshit. It's basically just celebrating the fact that we sat down with the natives before conning them out of their land and forcing them on to reservations."

Chibs snorted at this shaking his head. "Aye that's true. Thought it was more bout being thankful though Jules."

He leaned in pressing a kiss to the tip of her nose. "And I got more than enough to be thankful fer this year."

Julie let out a frustrated groan as her cell rang. She pulled away from Chibs heading over to the vanity where her little pink flip phone was sitting out waiting.

She tried not to sound annoyed as she spoke up. "Hey."

"Hey where are you? We're all waiting for you. Dad invited friends and he's getting antsy that you haven't shown yet." Jacob Jr. remarked.

Julie rolled her eyes at this. Leave it to Jacob Jr. to play the suck up to their dad. He was probably more anxious about Julie embarrassing him and his father's business partners than actually worrying about where the hell she was Julie thought bitterly.

"We're on our way. See you soon." Julie remarked all too eager to get off the phone.

She turned to Chibs sighing as she hung up her cell. "The sooner we get there the sooner this will all be over."

Chibs chuckled afraid to admit that he felt the exact same way. "Aye let's go my love."

They made it to Julie's father's house all too quickly for her. She was less than thrilled when Chibs parked his bike in her father's dark brick driveway.

Chibs couldn't help but to be in awe as he stared up at Julie's childhood home. It was like a little palace.

He had never even been to the nicer side of Charming. After all it wasn't as though he knew anyone on this side of town.

A lot of the houses in the neighborhood were quite similar; all large Craftsmen homes with nice manicured yards filled with landscaping. The houses all had huge covered porches with tall white pillars.

The houses all sat up on taller lots with mason stairways leading up to the property. It was obvious that the neighborhood was old. Chibs even spotted a few little signs in front of a couple of the houses that the local historical society put up around town.

To Chibs Julie's childhood home looked the most grand.

The two story house sat up on a tall lot just like the rest in the neighborhood. There was a nice brick stairway up to the house. There was a little stone fountain right out in front of the front door. The siding was painting a nice forest green. There were nice tall white picture windows on both floors to the home making it look warm and inviting.

Chibs couldn't help but to think of the government provided housing he'd grown up in as a child and the tiny apartments he'd lived in during his adult life in Ireland.

Julie's childhood home made his childhood home look like a shack. In fact it made most of the houses around Charming look like shantys.

Julie felt her stomach churn spotting the awestruck look in Chibs' eyes. She was used to it.

Most of her life she'd grown up going to school with people who all had the same reaction. Hell even Tara's eyes had bugged out a bit when she came over to Julie's house for the very first time.

A small part of Julie almost expected Chibs to turn back to her and look at her like she was some sort of ungrateful brat.

She was relieved as Chibs turned to her a small nervous grin on his face as he joked. "Are ya sure I shouldn't a worn the tie?"

"Yep completely sure." Julie remarked giving his hand a small squeeze as he began to lead her up to the house.

Julie tried to ignore the stir in her gut as she reached up and rang the doorbell. That stir became even more active as her brother David answered the door looking none too pleased to see who Julie had brought along.

David spoke as he moved aside to let Julie and Chibs into the home. "I see you left your kutte at home."

Chibs bit back the smart remark dancing around on his tongue as she spoke. "Aye left my tie too."

Julie smiled biting back her laughter as she wrapped an arm around Chibs' waist.

She'd promised herself she'd put up a strong front tonight against her family. She knew they were going to be difficult tonight, but she refused to let them get to her.

One way or another she would make it clear to her family that she wasn't going to change her mind about Chibs.

She pasted a smile on her face as her father entered the room looking just as put together as he always was; a tailored suit and silk tie.

She allowed her father to hug her even as he sent Chibs a sour look. He spoke his voice surprisingly cheery. "Why don't you go give Sylvia a hand setting the table Julie. I'll give Filip the nickel tour."

Julie nodded her head though she couldn't help but to feel suspicious as to why her father was being so accommodating to a man who he'd previously expressed nothing but disdain towards.

Despite her suspicions she pressed a kiss to Chibs' cheek before pulling away to go assist the family's longtime housekeeper just as her father requested.

Chibs swallowed the lump in his throat as Jacob sr. spoke. "Come join me in my office. I think we have a lot to discuss."

As Chibs entered Jacob Sr.'s office he couldn't help but to lock his eyes on the full gun-case as well as the array of taxidermy deer and antelope heads hanging on the walls.

As ridiculous as Chibs knew it was he couldn't help but to imagine his own head stuck up on the wall between a few of the deer.

Jacob Sr. nodded down at a set of brown leather chairs at the desk. "Have a seat."

Chibs felt his stomach dance around within him as Jacob walked over to his liquor cabinet pulling out two crystal glasses before filling them with brandy.

Chibs swallowed a thick lump at the base of his throat as Jacob handed him a glass. Chibs could almost picture dropping the expensive glass of aged brandy due to just how sweat dampened his hands were.

Jacob took a seat in a taller brown leather chair across the desk from Chibs. He took a slow sip of his brandy as he silently watched Chibs.

Chibs had to feel as though he was being watched by a dangerous snake ready to strike at him at any second.

Jacob finally spoke after a moment of awkward silence. "Filip where exactly are you from?"

"Belfast Ireland, but Glasgow Scotland originally." Chibs remarked rather quickly as he shifted the glass around in his hands.

He couldn't force himself to take a drink just yet. He felt sick to his stomach at the moment.

"How'd you find yourself all the way in California?" Jacob asked the all too calm look still etched on his face.

Chibs cleared his throat trying hard to pretend that this was just a friendly chat instead of what it actually felt like; an interrogation. "I had a few friends who knew a few friends in the states. I was lookin fer a change."

He knew he couldn't tell the truth of course. The truth was that the move to America had been voted by SAMBEL due to tension between the club and the IRA due to Chibs' living in Belfast after Jimmy had told him to leave.

Chibs had been sent to the mother charter to help ease tensions between the MC and the True IRA. He was the mediator between the two groups given his past in the IRA.

That was a story that never needed to be told to anyone in Julie's family.

"Are you here on a Visa?" Jacob asked taking a swig of his brandy still watching Chibs as though he was studying every little move Chibs made.

"No I became an American citizen last year." Chibs remarked guilty that he felt a bit smug to see the surprise in Jacob's face.

Jacob quickly recovered from any signs of shock as he spoke again. "Have you always been a mechanic?"

"Aye it's all I've ever wanted to do." Chibs lied knowing that his past wasn't up for discussion.

"Can't bring in much money though?" Jacob replied his eyes clearly telling that he didn't believe Chibs' statement about being a simple mechanic all his life.

Chibs tightened his jaw seeing just what Jacob was hinting at; that he didn't have the finances to give Julie the life she deserved.

Chibs pushed back this anger as he spoke his voice somehow holding a cool tone as he told the truth leaving out his extra income from the MC. "I manage. I refurbish a few wrecked bikes sell em fer a good chunk of cash."

"How would you like to have a big payout?" Jacob asked as he placed his glass down on the mahogany desk.

Chibs frowned puzzled as to what Jacob could mean. "What?"

Jacob smiled as he spoke again. "I'd be willing to help you out financially. I know you must be struggling. The paychecks you're getting from the garage can't really be that big. I am willing to give you 12,000 dollars and all you have to do is disappear. Leave Julie be."

Chibs felt his blood run cold at this statement. He shook his head stunned that Jacob could be so calm about this; offering him money to break up with Julie. He spoke his voice thick. "No."

Jacob spoke again pulling out his checkbook. "Let's be realistic Filip. My little girl and you are from two different worlds. She has a bright future and I refuse to let her throw it in the garbage all for you. I'm willing to go up on the price of course."

"I said no." Chibs spat out his temper setting in as his shock faded.

A third familiar voice joined the room. "What the fuck are you doing?"

Both men turned to face Julie the woman's eyes burning with rage.

This had been the last thing she'd expected to walk in on. She'd just come to tell the men that dinner was ready to be served.

She hadn't even thought to knock on her father's office door before she walked in.

She had heard what her father had to say though; that he wanted to pay Chibs to go away.

Yes she had heard that Chibs said no, but still her father had crossed a line she hadn't even known was in place.

Julie approached the desk tears beginning to leak from the corners of her eyes. "How could you?"

"I am doing what is best for you." Jacob stated as he stood up.

"What's best for me? That's bullshit and you know it." Julie spat out her voice cracking as she struggled not to break down completely.

Chibs felt as though someone had twisted a knife into his heart as he spotted the tears in Julie's eyes.

Julie stepped forward her voice picking up some strength. "I never want to see you again. You're no longer my father. Filip and I are going to have a wonderful life together. We're going to start a family and experience so much joy. You will never be part of that joy. Your future grandchildren will never call you grandpa."

Chibs was torn between wanting to punch Jacob, wanting to be proud of his old lady, and wanting to comfort her.

He didn't have a chance to make a choice as Julie turned to face him her voice losing some of that strength. "Let's go home."

Chibs nodded his head taking Julie's hand in his. She was right. It was time to go home.

Julie took a deep breath pulling her mind from this memory. The pain was still so fresh.

She had meant what she'd said that night. She had never wanted her father to meet any of her children.

She stood up quick to take a hold of Gracie's hand as she sent her father a glare. "I have nothing more to say to you."

When the two of them pulled up at the hotel, Julie took a series of deep breaths trying to keep her cool as Gracie spoke all to curious. "Who's that man Mommy? I only have one grandpa right?"

"It's a long story baby...we'll talk about it later okay." Julie replied doing her best to sound happier than she felt at the moment.

Seeing her father had been a serious hit. It hadn't been a trip down memory lane that she'd wanted to take.

Julie just couldn't understand what sort of father would do something so horrible. She looked up as the door to the room opened and Adam walked out.

She wasn't surprised that Adam had picked up on her anxiety. He was quick to approach her as Julie spoke to Gracie. "Go watch cartoons in daddy's room okay."

Gracie nodded her head quick to run into Adam's motel room what had happened the morning all too quickly disappearing from her brain.

Julie let out a heavy sigh shaking her head. "I ran into my dad at the diner."

"Shit...are you okay?" Adam replied knowing the story of how Jacob Sr. had tried to pay Chibs Telford to break up with Julie.

The betrayal had severed and relationship Julie and her father had. Jacob Sr. hadn't even attended Julie and Adam's wedding.

"It's fine...I'll live. I have to go get ready. I'm hoping to speak with the new sheriff today." Julie remarked not wanting to reopen the wound of what her father had done once again.

"Why don't you save that for tomorrow...let me go with you. I know how to deal with these law types Julie. I can help." Adam remarked.

Julie sighed wanting to tell him no, but she knew he had a point. His work as a Private Investigator meant that sometimes he had to deal with the police. He knew how to talk to him.

Besides it would be good to have some sort of back up tomorrow.

She nodded her head reluctantly agreeing. "Okay. I'll go by Scoops instead. I need to talk to the guys anyway."

She spoke again quickly. "I'm going to talk to Gracie about everything with my dad tomorrow...I'll figure out something to tell her."

Adam didn't have a chance to respond as a honk sounded out through the parking lot.

Julie and he turned to face the car stunned at what they saw.

Julie stepped forward as the driver's door opened and a brunette exited the car. "Emma?"

"Not just Emma." A voice remarked as the passenger's door opened and another pretty brunette left the car.

"Lucy? What are you doing here?" Julie asked stunned to see her two best friends.

She hadn't thought that Emma would pull Lucy into this.

Emma spoke as she walked over to the trunk of the old car opening it and pulling her suitcases out. "She wanted to come along. She thought she could help out with Gracie."

Julie sighed knowing that Emma had a point. Gracie loved Lucy, and Lucy was great with kids.

She shook her head as Emma gave her a toothy grin probably giddy off of god knows how many cups of coffee she'd had on the road trip. "We got the room next door to you."

Julie sighed knowing that Emma would insist on tagging along. This was going to be interesting.

Happy couldn't help but to stare at the pretty woman who had walked into Scoops with Julie.

She was hot; tall though that might be due to the tall black heeled boot she was wearing. She had a nice figure, full hips. What stuck out most though were her eyes; they were a pretty shade a blue.

She wasn't smiling though. In fact she looked all too annoyed once Julie and Chibs made eye contact.

Happy smirked slightly as he noticed this. Apparently Emma knew just who Chibs was and just what he'd done to Julie.

He had a feeling he was going to like this girl.

Julie tore her eyes from Chibs ignoring the flutter in her heart as Chibs stood to greet her.

Seeing him after her trip down memory lane this morning made it hard not to stare at him.

Julie really had believed what she'd said to her father that night. She had thought that Chibs and she would get married not legally of course given the situation with Fiona...she had believed that they'd have a commitment ceremony at the very least.

She had planned the wedding in her head even though Chibs hadn't proposed. It was going to be a small event outdoors maybe in a garden. She wanted a bohemian style lace dress with cap sleeves. She wanted to incorporate a few Scottish wedding traditions into the ceremony; hand fasting being the main one. Or course she had wanted SAMCRO vows knowing that Chibs would love it.

She had wanted the reception to be big; lots of dancing and drinking and eating.

Julie had planned the honeymoon even. She wanted to go down south to the beach. She wanted to lie out in the sun with her old man by day and make love by night.

Talking to her father this morning had brought up these memories.

When she'd married Adam she hadn't dipped into those plans for her dream wedding. It just didn't seem right.

She cleared her throat pulling her mind from this morning's mess as she introduced Emma. "This is my friend Emma from back home. She's come to help me out."

Emma said nothing still studying Chibs. He wasn't what she'd expected. Yes he was intimidating as she'd expected; tough clad in black. He was taller though; thinner than she'd thought he be.

She didn't miss the way he was looking at Julie. He had it bad for her still. Emma sighed unsure how to feel about this.

Part of her wanted to rush over and attempt to beat the shit out of Chibs for ever breaking her best friend's heart and the other part of her wanted to lock Chibs and Julie in a room together until they admitted that there was something still there.

She shook her head sighing

Julie tried to keep control of her voice as she spoke. "I need to talk to a few of you about the night...the night, when Tara died...what happened. I need every detail. Anything that's left out will come up in trial. I need to prepare for the worst."

Chibs was quick to approach her nodding over to the counter. "Aye that's fine."

Julie sat her messenger's bag on the counter managing to pull out a notebook and a pen. "Tell me everything you can remember. I need a statement from each of you."

She spoke again sighing. "Who found the...who found Tara and Sheriff Roosevelt?"

"The DA...DA Patterson. She was comin to gather Jax. He was goin to take the fall fer some shite that the club did...protect the club." Chibs explained his stomach churning.

He could see the pain in Julie's eyes. It was hard for him not to comfort her.

All he wanted to do was take her in his arms, but he knew that he couldn't do it. She probably wouldn't allow it and that was what hurt the most.

"What shit?" Julie asked already dreading to know the answer.

The men exchanged glances unsure if telling the truth would land them in hot water. Bobby was quick to speak. "Will it come up in court?...is she okay to hear this?"

Julie sighed knowing they were talking about Emma. She spoke sending Emma a pointed look that said keep your mouth shut. "She's fine."

She spoke again reassuring them about the court question. "These are just my personal notes"

"Some guns...they wound up in the hands of a kid...shot up his school." Bobby answered.

Julie felt as though someone had punched her in the gut. She took a few deep breaths trying to keep her thoughts from turning to Gracie.

She spoke again sighing. "Shit guys."

"We know...it's handled." Happy stated finally tearing his eyes from Emma.

She shook her head simply writing that DA Patterson had found Tara. She spoke again her throat tightening. "Jax was there?"

"Yeah...holding her...sobbing." Bobby replied the words hard to say.

Julie felt her eyes begin to water at this. God it was horrible and she could picture all of it.

Chibs stepped forward without even thinking. He pulled a handkerchief from his jeans pocket unable to stop herself from dabbing Julie's eyes. He wrapped his arms around her unable to keep himself from holding her. "I know lass...I know."

Julie couldn't stop herself from leaning into his touch astounded that his touch calmed her even after all these years.

Emma shook her head as she watched this exchange. She sighed deciding that she'd have to keep an eye on both Chibs and Julie.

Emma knew one thing and one thing only. If the Scotsman hurt her friend again she would skin him alive.
