Chapter 10
"I'm getting worried you guys. Kagome doesn't usually stay out so late, not even when dealing with her." Sango stated anxiously.
The others glance around the room, from one to the next, with just as much worry for their dear friend.
"Shush. " It wasn't a surprise that Sesshomaru was the most well collected one there, though it did turn a few heads that he was the first one to comfort little Inuyasha when he became quite distraught at the thought Kagome was in danger!
"When?" The child asked for the upteenth time.
"Soon, Inuyasha. Gome will be back soon... until then how about I tell you a story, and you try to go to sleep? I'll bet Gome will be here when you wake up if we do!" The demon prince wasn't sure why, but he felt obligated to watch over the little one till their... babysitter (UGH) returned.
"What story? A happy one? Can it be a long happy one with aventers and a pincess and a mama and-"
"Wait wait wait!" (sigh) 'this is going to be a long night, I know it.' "I'm sorry I don't know any stories like that but... How about one of my favorites? It's about a magical creature in a far off land, beyond the sea and not that long ago..."
(The newish movie about Maleficent. That's the story but Diaval and Maleficent fall in love in the end because I totally ship them)
As the young demon finished his tale he found he had closed his eyes. Upon opening them he saw lil' Yasha had long since fallen asleep, as well as a few of the adults. Two, however, had manages to stay up till it's happy ending, and he was embarrassed by the quiet praises they gave him. Inside he was happy though, for he was rarely truly appreciated for his less show talents. If it wasn't something that could improve his power, the power or prowess of the family, or even contribute to a simple battle it was considered useless to his father.
"You've a true talent for storytelling young man." Makoto-san said with a distant look in her eyes.
"Thank you." He replied with his own eyes downcast, mind wandering with things the story made he himself rethink.
"Aye. 'Tis true Sesshomaru. Perhaps some day you'll be inspired to write your own tale?" Chuckled Lady Kaede. With a grunt of effort she got to her feet to peer out the front of the hut one last time for the night. With a weary sigh she let the hanging door swing closed before looking to Makoto-san and I.
"If she is not returned by morning we'll have to prepare for an assault... by or against us we will find out then." Since the last part was mumbled under her breath The young male doubted he was supposed to hear it. That did not, however, change the fact that it did. Nor did it help his anxiety about the woman he had grown far too fond of in a ridiculously short time. Honestly it was like a feeling he had had a long time ago and it was just now resurfacing... how that is possible he had not a clue, for until confusedly waking in her arms he had no recollection of her. Ever.
'Weird.'
"There's no way on earth you are going to sleep until our mate returns safely. Remember the one thing that heartless monster taught you that actually matters. "We protect those we love until our last breath, son. No matter what"."
Inner was right. He had to admit it now. To feel such a way can only be explained as love... Hopefully this won't kill him in the end or worse... ending up like his parents.
'Fine. If she is not back in the next hour I'll go after her. No harm shall come to that woman while I'm around.'
"Good boy" Inner just chuckled at his hosts frustration at the loathed nickname.
