Okay so I don't really like this chapter, I rushed it because I wanted to get it out before Everblaze, but anyway here you go. I think there will be one more chapter and that's it. I just want to say thanks to pegsisus who helped me a little bit. I am so excited for Everblaze! Who's with me?
Chapter 12
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM?!" Sophie screamed. She had never been more appalled or shocked in her life. Sophie ran over to Dex, ignoring Brant's snickers. She put her hand on his shoulder. "Dex? Please, can you remember me?" Dex looked at her with confusion and apprehension. "Uh no, so please get your hand off of me. Should I remember you?" Sophie crumbled to the ground. She looked up at him, tears streaming down her face, "Yes. You should." Sophie could tell he wanted to remember her. She could see it in his eyes. They were oddly blank, but Sophie knew his mind was working furiously. Brant called out to her, "Oh come on, it'll wear off. I think." He did not look as if he cared if it wore off or not. Sophie stood up shakily, her hands out. "You monster-" she gasped. "I'm no monster. I just know how to use my powers to their best ability. There's no evil. There are no bad people in the world. Only those who know how to use powers the right way and those who don't-like you. I'm asking you Sophie. If you join me we could reign superior. There would be no end to our power. I would teach you everything there is to know about using your abilities. What do you say?" His eyes flashed with greed.
Sophie looked at him with disgust. "I'd rather die, than side with you." She spat. "Die it is," He sneered.
At Havenfield…
'"Do you have Sophie's location?" "Yeah, she's in the middle of the forest." Grady answered. "Oh god, come on, there's no time to waste." Grady looked at Alden with suspicion. "Alden…you seem to know something I don't." "Well Sophie warned me about a new evil arising and I think maybe she-" Grady cut Alden off as he sighed angrily and rubbed his eyes. "You think she's going to fight it. Good lord, Alden. Why don't you tell me this stuff?"
Brant shot a fireball at Sophie, and she dodged it. "Brant! Stop. You don't have to do this." "Oh, yes I do." He sent out another fireball. It missed Sophie and singed the grass instead. "The Black Swan killed Jolie. Now I will kill you." "The Black Swan didn't kill Jolie." Sophie saw Brant hesitate for a second then continue fighting. "How can you possibly know that?" He twirled his hand and a strong gust of wind blew Sophie across the field. Her right shoulder slammed into the ground. "Because I asked them." She shot ice at Brant's hand, and it froze. He melted it. "You think they were telling the truth? You foolish innocent girl. The black swan are liars." "Yeah? And what are you?" Brant kicked the ground angrily and ran at her. She threw out her hands and an ice wall appeared right in front of him. He hit it with astounding force and fell to the ground. Sophie stared. It couldn't be that easy could it? Had she just defeated an extremely powerful man with an ice wall? Surely not. But when she walked over to him she saw that he was indeed out cold.
She bent down to feel his pulse. As her fingers touched his skin a burning sensation surged through her body. She fell backwards on the ground. The pain was unbearable. All she wanted to do was die. In fact she was sure she was going to die. It felt like hot prickling fire works were exploding everywhere. Her brain felt like it was getting sucked out of her head. To her left, Brant was shaking violently. She saw through hazy, blurred vision a purplish glow was emerging from her head and connecting to Brant's. Through the agonizing pain Sophie made a connection… Somehow Brant had managed to make her touch him. He had planned this. Now somehow, someway he was stealing her power. He was stealing her soul. Sophie knew she would be gone in seconds.
She thought about Fitz, Keefe, her parents, Alden and everyone she loved. Goodbye, she thought. A jolt seized her body and she thought she heard someone's voice. An inky blackness was clouding her mind. Suddenly she felt something soft touch her forehead. A brown and peach blob was swirling above her. What was that? Fitz? A warmness spread through her body. Next, a blond and peach blob collapsed beside her, pulled her up and hugged her. Keefe. She again felt something soft touch her forehead. Another surge of warmness spread through her body. Sophie felt the connection between her and Brant weaken. Then another person pulled her up. This time it was someone stronger and older. Grady! Sophie felt herself burst through the cold inky darkness. She was light and happy and free.
Someone picked her up and her head lolled against their warm body. They were shaking. Sophie didn't mind. All she wanted to do was curl up beside them and soak in the warmness. Her body went slack and she fell asleep.
Sophie opened her eyes to find bright lights glaring down upon her. "She's up!" she heard someone cry. Her eyes smarted as she struggled to keep them open in the bright lights. "Where am I?" she croaked. "Shhh… you're in the healing center. Don't worry, you're going to be fine." "But Dex-" "He's fine." Sophie let out a sigh of relief. Her chest felt tight and her right shoulder was aching. "Are Fitz and Keefe alri-" She felt someone grab her left hand and another grab her right. "We're here Sophie." She smiled.
