As the group came towards a cavern they could hear nothing, as all was silent. Outside they could at least hear the other Pokémon's howls and screams, but in the cave… they heard nothing. It was a cave of silence, once filled with beautiful music, now only filled with an ear shattering silence. Dawn almost froze with fear the minute she couldn't hear sound. She tried to speak but nothing came out. She ran up to Grovyle who was at the head of the group and followed closely while clutching her bear. Grovyle signaled to Mandy and K.O. to go on ahead. They nodded. They didn't understand why, but they knew he had his reasons.

Dawn was still tired from the dimensional scream and the lack of sleep she had had throughout their whole trip. Her fear was the only thing keeping her awake. Grovyle picked her up gently and placed her on his back like she was having a piggyback ride. As he lifted her up her eyes widened as she looked down. She seemed scared of something. She held onto Grovyle for fear of falling off of him now. 'She's afraid of heights? Then how did she manage that jump when I needed help? Strange as usual.'

'Oh man, I don't want to fall!' Was the thought going through her mind. 'I hate heights.' She started to cry a little, but no one could hear it and her face seemed to be made so that any tears on it would fade against her skin perfectly, as though she was made for crying. It didn't take long for her to fall asleep on his back with her arms securely around her neck. She apparently felt safe enough to finally fall asleep, for she had been up for quite a while.

'She's asleep now, huh. I wonder how she'll react to one of the few places that time still seems to move… if it is still moving.' Grovyle was still walking slowly behind when he was shocked by something. It was a sound. 'What the… there shouldn't be any sound in here… we aren't even halfway through the caverns yet… where is it…' He turned his head and noticed that the sound was close to his ear, or where his ear should have been if he were human.

Dawn seemed to be singing in her sleep, or at least singing the sounds. It was a song with no lyrics, at least she didn't sing them. It seemed to be a lullaby, at least it seemed to work like one. Grovyle noticed that the few Pokémon who were in the caves seemed to be feeling tired suddenly, more than they wanted to attack them. Grovyle hurried along to make sure he himself didn't fall asleep to the weird phenomenon that was his partner.

'She is indeed a strange human, heh.' They entered into an empty chamber-like area in the cavern with a music note carved on a wall. He laid his partner down onto the stone floor while he tried to use a version of sign language that worked for Pokémon to communicate with the others. They needed to find the music stone to open the gate with music. One of them had to open the gate with a song of some sort.

Dawn chose that time to wake up. She glanced around towards her friends and then looked at the wall. For the first time since coming, she had finally had a peaceful dream. While she was dreaming, she had heard a song. As she looked at the wall, she noticed that someone had left a small music note shaped gem on the ground. She picked it up cautiously while the others were discussing in a language she could not understand.

The moment she touched it, she felt a shock run through her system as she heard a sound. She looked towards the sound. Grovyle was tapping his foot on the ground. K.O. was repeating the same thing over and over again, something about sounds needing to be pure enough. Mandy seemed to be muttering something under her breath, it sounded familiar to Dawn, but she couldn't quite hear it clearly. It sounded something like "…hope was in the sound of the song, not the words".

Dawn closed her eyes tightly as she held the music note gem. 'Sing your heart out, oh Rose with the Dawn's Dewdrops, it can reveal answers that you need young child.' Those were the words that flooded her mind as she gazed at the note on the wall.

Dawn nodded slowly and opened her mouth to sing. She sang the first thing that came to her mind. She was certain that the stone in her hand was helping her to choose the words to it.

"How Could This Happen To Me"

I open my eyes
I try to see but I'm blinded by the white light
I can't remember how
I can't remember why
I'm lying here tonight

And I can't stand the pain
And I can't make it go away
No I can't stand the pain

How could this happen to me
I made my mistakes
I've got no where to run
The night goes on
As I'm fading away
I'm sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me

Everybody's screaming
I try to make a sound but no one hears me
I'm slipping off the edge
I'm hanging by a thread
I wanna start this over again

So I try to hold onto a time when nothing mattered
And I can't explain what happened
And I can't erase the things that I've done
No I can't

How could this happen to me
I made my mistakes
I've got no where to run
The night goes on
As I'm fading away
I'm sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me

I made my mistakes
I've got nowhere to run
The night goes on
As I'm fading away
I'm sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me

When she finishes the song, she finds herself crying a little, as though the song held meaning for her, but she didn't know why yet. Her three teammates looked at her with shock. The gate in front of her opened. Grovyle was by her side in a second and led her in, the others followed.

In the next room they find that sound is working now. Grovyle looks at his partner with a little worry. "Dawn, are you okay?"

Dawn dried her eyes and glanced down. "I'm fine. I don't know where that song came from. I've never heard it before, at least, I don't think I have."

"We should keep going, Celestia should be nearby." K.O. muttered. He seemed to like muttering a lot.

Mandara on the other hand was looking at the young girl with a bit of wonder and worry in her eyes. 'New song, old voice… but that… I'll wait till we're done with all of this and then ask… if it is her… then she'll be more powerful than ever if she awakens while here. I'll keep quiet for her own good. It's better this way anyway.' She tapped Dawn and smirked at her. "Nice singing, kid. Not bad at all."

"Thanks. This stone gave me that song." She showed the tiny music gem to her friends. "It's pretty, don't you think?"

"Keep hold of that one, kid. It's quite the rare stone." Grovyle smirked as he noticed the child starting to smile again. '…just like you… yeah, I'm getting sentimental.'

"Right." She nodded excitedly. She was eager to prove herself just as useful as the others. She felt that she had proven herself a little by finding the stone and by managing to open the door, but she still had a ways to go before she felt that she could be considered in even the same league.
