Chapter 4: Detention
Without direction or destination Ginny ran. It was late at night and most of the castle was asleep, too bad she couldn't say the same about her pursuers. Every time her foot hit the ground it sounded like thunder to her ears. Every twig she stepped on made her flinch. She needed to be more quiet if she expected to make it out of the Forbidden Forest alive.
Planting her back against a thick tree Ginny tried to listen for movement. It probably would've helped if her heart wasn't beating so loudly. She could barely hear anything over it's quick tempo.
How had she been so stupid to allow herself to be separated from the pack?
Ginny's legs hurt, her stomach was empty, her hands were covered in tiny scars, and her feet were blistering. She wanted to relax and give her lungs time to recuperate, but she also knew that staying still would be a mistake. The Carrows or worse were out there waiting for her to slip up. She couldn't allow that to happen.
She knew it was a stupid plan. Stealing the sword from Snape's office. She knew there was a high chance she wouldn't succeed and even if she did, how would she get it to Harry? No one had any idea where he was at. Still she had to try. Dumbledore had left that sword to Harry. And every day it sat in Snape's office it just infuritated Ginny even more. Snape wasn't even supposed to have that office let alone the sword. How could they have let this happen? The man killed their previous headmaster for crying out loud. But none of that mattered to the evil bastards who had taken over wizarding England.
When Ginny got caught trying to steal the sword she didn't imagine that Snape would send her into the Forbidden Forest with Hagrid and her friends. Walking with Hagrid through the forest is would be like swimming with the mermaids in the black lake. No one would bother them with Hagrid around. Too bad for her it was a set up. The Carrows followed them into the forest with a couple of dementors. They claimed to have a werewolf too. Ginny looked to the skies. She couldn't tell if the moon was full or not, it certainly looked very round. Either way would be bad.
Ginny had gotten seperated from the rest of the group in the twisty maze that was the forest. She hoped the others were okay, but she couldn't risk looking back. It was more than just her life at stake. There had yet to be a loud scream, so Ginny took that as a sign that the others were okay as well.
After catching her breath Ginny began to move again. Going deep into the forest isn't safe yet going to the edge meant running into the Carrows and their brand of horrors.
She hoped she would run into Hagrid and the others or at least be able to outlast the Carrows.
Just then something huge and hairy appeared on her left. Acromantula. Shit, no good. The giant spider spotted her just as she spotted him. Ginny had a second to pull out her wand before it launched.
It took three stun spells to take the beast down but no doubt the flashing red light stood out like a becon letting her location be known to all. She had to run again.
The forest had come alive despite the lateness of the hour. Ginny could hear noises from all around and had to stay alert at all times.
When a bright light suddenly filled her vision Ginny shielded her eye with her arm. There was a rumbling, it sounded slightly metallic. Ginny moved her arm and blinked.
It was the Ford Anglia. Merlin's pants who would've thought? The car door opened and Ginny jumped inside. She couldn't believe this old car was still running. Ron and Harry had crashed it into the Whomping Willow years ago.
It was like a sign or something. If this car could survive out here, than she too would be just fine.
As the car drove itself Ginny sat back and thought about Harry. He sat here in this very seat as he flew across England and Scotland. He was young ten but still just as handsome. Oh how Ginny prayed he was still alive. Sure there was bound to be something in the paper if Harry was injured or dead. But even more than that Ginny was sure if something bad were to happen she'd feel it. She'd been in love with him for so long. Surely her soul would realize if it's mate was no linger alive?
It hurt just to think it, Harry had to be okay. He had to be okay, because there was just no way she'd survive without him.
There was a parting in the upcoming trees and Ginny could see a familiar hut. She was safe, everything was going to be okay. The car turned it's high beams on an a huge figure was silhouetted in the night. it was Hagrid and he wasn't along. Ginny let out a sigh of relief that everyone was safe. She only hoped that all was going well for Harry too.
