This is just a short one-shot I wrote after watching the second season again. I just love these two :)

"What can I get you?" Ruby asked smiling after Victor had sat at the table in Granny's Diner.

Victor swallowed, he actually found himself being nervous. That hadn't happened for a very long time. There was just something about Ruby; he couldn't get her out of his mind. She had been there for him when he had really needed someone to talk to; he had never met a woman like her. Perhaps any sane person would have run after hearing the whole "I ate my boyfriend" thing, but Victor had been called insane more than once.

"A date, please," he replied, trying his best to sound casual.

Ruby's eyes widened, she stared at him disbelievingly.

"What?"

Victor cleared his throat.

"I would like to ask you out. You know, maybe we could have dinner or go to the movies or something."

"Dr. Whale…" Ruby muttered, biting her bottom lip.

"Victor," he corrected.

"Okay, Victor… That would be a terrible idea."

"Why? Do you find me unattractive?"

"What, no, that's not…" She paused and sighed. "I just can't. I thought you would understand after… our talk."

Victor smiled.

"I do understand, believe me, but I thought you said that you want to start over. So… How about you start by going out with me?"

Ruby was quiet for a moment, she didn't look at him.

"Why would you want that?" she finally asked.

"Because I would like to get to know you," Victor replied. "I think that's the whole point of dating."

"Yeah, I know, but… Why?"

Victor shrugged.

"Call me crazy, but I find you a fascinating woman, I've never met anyone like you. We both have our demons, I know that, but that's not what defines us. I can overlook yours if you can overlook mine."

The corners of Ruby's mouth were twitching, but finally she couldn't suppress a smile.

"What would that make us? Beast and the beast?"

"Beauty suits you better," Victor replied smiling. "I can be the beast."

"I doubt that," Ruby muttered gloomily. "You haven't seen the real beast."

"You would be surprised."

They were both quiet for a brief moment; Victor could see the confusion in Ruby's eyes.

"I don't want to hurt you," she finally said, her tone of voice was distressed.

"I can take care of myself. Come on, just say yes. You don't want me to sound desperate, do you?"

"Oh, I don't know," Ruby replied innocently.

"I'm a doctor, you know," he pointed out charmingly. "What woman wouldn't want to go out with a doctor?"

Ruby couldn't help but laugh, she couldn't deny that she wanted to go out with him.

"Alright, doctor. You can pick me up at eight."

"Wonderful."

Victor stood up and leaned closer, planning to kiss Ruby's cheek, but Granny's glare from across the room made him to shake her hand instead.

"Ruby!" Granny called.

"I'll be right there!" she replied, trying not to laugh. "You look scared, doctor."

"Your grandmother seems quite a…determined woman," he muttered.

"Wait, wait, you're not scared of me, the werewolf, but you're scared of my granny?"

Victor tried not to look at the elderly woman who crossed her arms and glared at him warningly. Her look told him that he would be in a lot of trouble if he would do anything to hurt Ruby.

"What can I say; I do have some survival instinct."
