Hello, my lovely and loyal readers. It's time for more Delena while we're in for another TVD Delena hiatus. Grrr… Katherine. I'll see you again soon…

Chapter 25: Basement Conversations

Feeling pain in his neck, Damon sat up and looked around him. Elena was still out and there was the sound of screaming from one of the coffins. It was the white one and Damon blinked in shock as he stared at the vampire he had thought of as a friend until recently. He was sitting on top of the coffin across from the white one with his head on top of his knees, a crystal tumbler in his hand.

"You must believe I'm a monster, love. But I'm not. I swear to you I am not what you believe me to be. It will be alright. You will see. It may take several millennium for you to come to see things my way. But one day, my love, things will work out." Klaus was murmuring to the white coffin as Caroline screamed in anger once more.

Damon got up slowly and Klaus made no movement as Damon walked over to the white coffin. Klaus finally looked up at Damon, his eyes bleary as he stared at Damon. "She will forgive me. It will be alright," he whispered as he knocked back the rest of his drink. "If Elijah can forgive me my sins then a mere child can do the same."

Before Damon could reply Klaus sped out of the room and then closed the door behind him. Relaxing slightly, Damon reached out and opened the coffin. Caroline sat bolt upright. "Where is he? I'm going to kill him. I swear, I'm going to kill him," she seethed.

"He went back upstairs," Damon informed her as Elena began to groan from the floor. He walked over to her and placed his hand to her check. "Hey, there. How are you feeling?"

Elena blinked. "I've been better." Taking Damon's hand, she allowed him to pull her to her feet and they walked over to Caroline, who was hopping out of the coffin. Caroline headed straight for the door and began to jerk at it. "KLAUS!" She screamed, banging her fist against the door. "Let me out of here, you crazy murderer."

"Care, I don't think insulting him is going to get us out of here," Damon told her gently, seeing the familiar Caroline Forbes 'Do not tell me I can't do something.' Damon placed his hand up in the air and sighed. "Have it your way."

Rolling her eyes, Caroline sighed and slumped in front of the door. "The least he could have done was leave us with booze."

"Yes, because he is not being a proper host," Elena joked and then they began to laugh. "Hey, Klaus, can you like send us down some drinks. And maybe a few blood bags? Or a couple of pillows?" Elena shouted to be answered by dead silence. "Yup, he's definitely being neglectful of his guests' needs. Remind me to not leave a tip. We could post a review. Do not stay at Chateau Mikaelson. They do not provide nightly turndown service or a mint on the pillow. Nor do they have an ice machine. I feel cheated."

Staring at Elena and then each other, Damon and Caroline began to laugh. "Lena, you're cracking up," Caroline exclaimed, wiping away tears.

"I'm a freaking vampire, Caroline," Elena shouted. "This is the craziest thing that has ever happened in my entire life since I met Stefan." Looking at Damon, she sighed. "And the other Damon. Then there's the bit where you came into my life and I don't know what to think any more. I mean life is crazy. Klaus wants to kill me. Now, he probably wants to kill all three of us. We need a plan, guys. We can't just let him win."

"We could try daggering him," Caroline suggested.

"We could wait until he comes downstairs, Caroline can show him her boobs and then I snap his neck," Damon added and Caroline gave him an evil look. "Or not. Lena, you want to do the honors?"

Elena rolled her eyes. "Let's try something that doesn't involve showing him anyone's boobs. Thank you, Damon. Are you sure you're not really Damon Salvatore?" She asked him mockingly before looking around. "There has to be something around here we can use as a weapon." Her yes landed on the coffins. "How about we check out how his other siblings feel about him?"

Damon came over to stand beside Elena as Caroline came to stand on her other side. "Which one should we pick?" Damon asked, looking at the coffins.

"That one," Caroline pointed at the box with the man in a tuxedo. "I think he must have been daggered within the last century so we'll have a lot less to explain to him than the other one."

Nodding, Elena reached out and pulled the dagger out of the young man's chest. They had to wait for some time for him to wake like they had to wait with Rebekah. When the man's eyes shot open, he did not look happy. Unlike his sister, he hopped out of the box and stared around him. "Damn, how long have I been in that blasted thing, darlings?"

"I don't know," Elena told him honestly.

The man turned to look at her and cocked an eyebrow with a smirk. "Hello there, Katherine. Long time, no see. Thankfully. Never did think you were much fun. So, how did Nik get ahold of you? Last I heard you were on the run," he began to look around as he spoke. "Ah, and I see Bekah is up and about, too…" he began to look for his sister. "But she's not here. Is Elijah here?"

"Who's Elijah?" Caroline asked and Damon nodded, thinking that he wanted to know the answer to that question, too.

The man in the tuxedo rolled his eyes and sighed. "What year are we in, pray tell?"

"2012," Elena informed him and the man's eyes widened.

"That bastard. And I mean that in a literal sense of the word. I shall kill him with my bare hands." The man glared around him before staring at the door to the basement. Then he turned his attention back to the other coffin. "Time to wake Finn. Or maybe not. Later then. Need to talk to Nik first." he began to speed up the stairs when Caroline stepped in front of him. "Can I help you, love?"

"Before you leave we would really like some answers, please. It won't take that long," Caroline whispered, staring up at the man, her eyes wide and Damon would recognize that look anywhere. She was trying to use all of her feminine persuasion to gain them information so they might have a fighting chance. 'That's my best friend,' Damon cheered inwardly. He just hoped the man did not try to kill Caroline for this.

Staring down at Caroline, the man began to grin before he flipped the lid to his coffin shut and then hopped up on top of it. He reached down and pulled Caroline up to sit beside him. "Can't say I've had a proper chat with a lady as lovely as yourself in quite some time. Could use a spot of blood before we begin. But beggars can't be choosers."

Rolling her eyes, Elena walked over to them and held out her wrist. "Go for it," she told him.

The man's eyebrows rose as a wide grin appeared on his face. "Thank you, Katherine."

"I'm not Katherine. I'm Elena Gilbert," Elena told him. "And you are?"

Looking amused, the man cocked his head to the side. "Another one. Hmm… interesting and a vampire no less. Too bad. Would have loved a bit of human blood straight from the vein after all this time." Rather than taking Elena's wrist, he reached out for Caroline's. "Don't worry. I'll be gentle."

Damon could only watch, feeling his blood boil as the Original, who had yet to offer his name or anything useful yet, sank his fangs into Damon's best friend's wrist. "Are you going to tell us anything? Or are you just going to flirt with Caroline and drink her blood? It's not like you should be, I don't know, grateful for the fact that we pulled your dagger out or are feeding you."

"Kol Mikaelson. Elijah is the eldest of us. Don't really care what you think. Funny that there is a third doppleganger. And I think you should watch your tongue, unless you would like me to rip your head off," Kol informed Damon while licking his teeth and putting an arm around, Caroline to keep her from falling off the casket.

"Did you have to take so much of her blood?" Elena hissed. Right now, she was worried about how woozy Caroline looked as her head fell against the Original brother's shoulder.

"Do you have any idea what it is like to rot in a box for nearly a hundred years?" Kol snapped at her. He hopped off the coffin lid and gathered Caroline into his arms. "Somehow, I doubt it. Now, if you would like my assistance with this predicament you and your little friends are in, I would try being a tad bit nicer to me," Kol announced as he headed up the stairs. "Shall we see what Nik is up to?"

"The door won't budge," Damon told Kol, who rolled his eyes before giving it a swift kick that shattered the door into little pieces. "On the other hand…" Damon took Elena's hand and they sped after Kol, who stopped in the Great Room of the Mikaelson manor just as Rebekah threw a glass tumbler at Klaus' head followed by a priceless vase, a painting and a fire place poker.

"Bekah," Kol called cheerfully. Then he turned his attention to Klaus. "Nik," he snarled.

"Blasted hell," Klaus yelled, barely dodging the fire place poker. When he noticed Caroline in Kol's arms, his expression hardened. "What did you do to her?" He growled.

"Nothing she didn't enjoy," Kol said cheerfully, laying Caroline down on one of the couches.

"I will kill you for whatever you did to her," Klaus roared, charging at his brother and Elena was scooped up by Damon, who got out of the way in the nick of time.

"It was just a bit of blood, Nik. I was hungry. You left me down there too long and I had to feed," Kol told Klaus as Klaus wrapped his hands around his brother's throat.

"Nik, stop it," Rebekah screamed at her brother as Klaus attempted to rip Kol's head off. Growling, Rebekah picked up the fire place poker and hit Klaus in the back of the head with it.

"We should run," Damon whispered to Elena as Rebekah continued to beat Klaus over the head with the fire place poker as he continued to try to rip Kol's head off.

Elena nodded as Damon walked over and scooped Caroline up off of the couch. They sped toward the door and would have left if it were not for the two people in the doorway. Damon sucked in deep breath, looking at the familiar face of Stefan Salvatore and then at the unfamiliar face of the man in a black suit.

"Stefan," Elena gasped, looking startled and guilty.

"Elena," Stefan replied, walking inside the foyer and wrapping his arms around Elena. "Hey, I am so sorry I left without a word. Are you okay? Did Klaus hurt you?"

"No," Elena whispered, looking at Damon over Stefan's shoulder when there was the sound of loud screams coming from the Great Room.

"Come with me," the man called and the Mystic Falls gang stared at each other. Stefan was the first to begin moving toward the Great Room with his arm around Elena. Damon was forced to follow them. He would not leave Elena. Although he should get Caroline out of this mad house.

"It's okay," Caroline whispered, quietly. "He won't kill me."

"How do you know that?" Damon whispered back, feeling like he would lose his mind if he lost her. It would be like losing a part of himself. She was his best friend. Technically, she just looked like his Caroline but it didn't seem to matter anymore. It was like their worlds were merging.

"Klaus loves me," Caroline stated simply as Damon carried her into the Great Room and Klaus sped over to them. Staring at Damon warily, the Original vampire reached out for Caroline and Damon had little choice about handing her over as Caroline was holding out her arms toward the psycho. She wrapped them around Klaus' neck and was pulled into his embrace.

Damon looked around to see Kol rubbing his neck, Rebekah waving the fire place poker around, looking angry, the mystery man with one hand in his pocket and the other one in the air like he was about to make a speech. Damon's eyes landed on Stefan and Elena sitting on one of the couches last and he tried to not lose his temper as Stefan took Elena's hand in his.

"Niklaus, what do you believe you have been doing with these people in the last couple of months? And what in the name of God is going on around here?" The mystery man's voice was calm but his irritation was evident in his posture.

"Really, Elijah, do you think I need to give you an explanation?" Klaus snapped as he stared at Stefan. "Get her a blood bag, Stefan."

"Excuse me, do we know each other?" Stefan asked, looking confused. Rebekah glared at Stefan before throwing the fire place poker at him. It pierced his gut and embedded itself in the couch before she disappeared.

"Oh, my God," Elena moaned, staring at Stefan in shock. Reaching out, she pulled the poker out swiftly causing Stefan to gasp in agony. "I'm sorry," she whispered.

Rebekah waltzed back into the room and sneered at Stefan before handing a blood bag to Klaus. He bit into it and then pressed it to Caroline's lips.

"Alright, will everyone please refrain from acts of violence until I get some answers here?" Elijah asked as he stared around him, giving Rebekah a pointed look. She simply shrugged and then then moved to stand beside Kol.

"Thank you. For those of you who do not know me. I am Elijah Mikaelson. I do believe I need to apologize for the behavior of my younger siblings most, especially Niklaus. I have no idea what he has been up to here. I suspected it was the sacrifice but now I am beginning to wonder as I look around me at this farce." Elijah looked genuinely disturbed as he looked around him.

"It does not matter anymore, Lijah. I will not be able to trigger my werewolf gene due to my… Caroline having turned Elena into a vampire." Klaus looked equally irritated as he stroked Caroline's hair. Caroline was sitting in Klaus' lap and looked nervous. She seemed to not believe that Klaus would not truly leave her unscathed for her mistake.

"Ah," Elijah's eyebrows rose as he took in this piece of information. "And do you plan on killing the baby vampire for this?'

Klaus sighed, shaking his head. "No, brother. I truly wish she had not made that mistake and, believe me, if it had been anyone else they would not have lasted for five minutes. But Caroline… I cannot kill her. I will not kill her."

"Therefore you are letting this go?" Elijah seemed to be in shock and then he smiled. "I thought love was a vampire's greatest weakness, brother?"

Klaus shook his head. "It is," he replied, pressing his face against Caroline's check. "This girl is my greatest weakness."

"Ah, isn't that cute," Rebekah scoffed. "Nik is happy. Gee, I am so thrilled. Was it worth it to you to ruin my life? Or Elijah's? Or Kol's? Stefan doesn't even remember me. Elijah lost Katherine long ago because of your need for revenge. And now look at you. You make me sick," she stomped out of the room and Kol followed her.

"Is there anything else I need to know?" Elijah asked.

"Yeah. I think it's time for me to go home," Damon announced, causing all eyes to move toward him.

"Excuse me?" Elijah looked confused as he looked at Damon.

"He's not from our world," Elena explained sadly. "This is Damon Gilbert. He's the doppleganger in his world."

"Oh!" Elijah's eyebrows rose as he began to blink and then shook his head. "I do believe that this will take a bit more of an explanation."
