Hello, my lovely and loyal readers. We're beginning to wind down a bit because this story has about five-ten chapters. I wanted to say congratulations to the casts of TVD and TO on their early renewals. If anyone who is reading this story is a Klarlone fan I have a few one-shots out there and one of them was posted today. And to support Klaroline like we did with Delena there is a Klaroline petition out there and a Klaorline buttons project which are great ways to show your love. Only a suggestion. Thank you for the support.
Chapter 27: One World Too Many
Damon Salvatore was walking along a beach with Elena Salvatore and they were talking about what their plans were for the day when he felt this strange sense that he desperately wanted to go to sleep. They had left the hotel in Greece to get away from Caroline because the baby vampire was far too depressed and it was driving the two older vampires batty.
Then there was this sudden tugging sensation as Damon felt the urge to lay down on the ground. "Damon," Elena began to shout as the world went black and Damon felt himself being jerked out of the body he was inside. No, it wasn't time yet. He needed more time to be with Elena. They were happy, if you didn't count Caroline's company, and the fact that they were on the run from Klaus didn't help.
"Damon," someone was calling and Damon sat bolt upright in the middle of a room he had never seen before. He was surrounded by familiar faces. Some of them he was happy see. Others not so much. "Klaus," Damon growled, shooting to his feet.
Klaus simply stared back at him. "Yes, mate?" He smirked and then started to put an arm around Caroline's shoulders, who shifted away from him.
"Man, you really don't know how to leave her alone, do you?" Damon asked as he shook his head and then he lunged at Klaus. "I may not have killed you in the other Damon's world but that doesn't mean I won't take you out in my own."
"Damon!" Elena shouted in fear when Klaus easily side stepped and threw Damon across the room and his body slammed into the fireplace. "Was that necessary?" Elena shouted at Klaus before running over to check on Damon.
"Actually. Yes." Klaus stated with a smile as he looked at Caroline who frowned at him.
"You didn't have to hurt him like that," Caroline snapped at him.
"Damon, are you okay?" Elena whispered to Damon, her expression concerned as she placed a cool hand on Damon's cheek. The look on her face made Damon feel more disoriented than being thrown into the fireplace by Klaus.
Damon stared into Elena's eyes. He was searching for an answer he knew he would not receive with all of these people hanging around. But that wouldn't stop him from searching. "Hi," Damon said, feeling like it was the lamest thing he could say but he couldn't help it. He hadn't seen Elena Gilbert in so long and he had almost felt like he would never see her again.
"Hi," Elena replied with a wide smile. "You are Damon Salvatore, right?"
"Yes," Damon replied. He got up and looked down at Elena. He didn't care about the other people in the room. He just wanted to whisk her out of the room and talk. There was so much he needed to say to her and screw the consequences. However, he knew he couldn't because Klaus was there and that meant Elena was in danger.
And what the hell was his baby brother doing to help his beloved? Nothing. Stefan was sitting on the couch with his head in his hands. He would lift his head once in awhile to look at Klaus and Rebekah. "Stefan," Damon snapped. "What are you doing?" Feeling the urge to shake his little brother or to knock his lights out, Damon had to force himself to control his temper.
"He's trying to wrap his mind around the fact that he knew me and my sister in the 1920's, Damon. And I suppose this is where I should say it is a pleasure to meet you. However, since I feel that it is not one, I think I shall forgo the pleasure." Klaus informed Damon, lacing his fingers behind his back. "Take my throwing you across the room and not ripping your heart as a point in the favor of the alternative."
"Oh, yeah, I'll have to thank him," Damon snapped sarcastically. "And what the hell do you mean you knew my brother back in the day?"
"Well, Damon, it appears that there are things about your brother's life you do not know about," Klaus told Damon with a grin.
"You're a dick," Damon told the vampire or possible hybrid. Who knew what had happened while he was gone. Looking around him, Damon felt uncertain about most anything around him. "Anyone want to fill me in on the details of what hell has been going on since I left?"
"Are you sure you're really you?" Bonnie asked Damon peering into his eyes with a look of suspicion.
"I don't know, Witchy, am I?" Damon replied with a smirk.
"The jackass is back," Bonnie announced. "Is everyone happy?"
"No," Stefan told them as he looked at his brother and then he looked at his hands.
"Gee, Stef. Don't get all excited now," Damon retorted, frowning. "Because I sure wouldn't miss you if you got sent to an alternate dimension."
"Hey, it's not his fault that he's pissed. You slept with Elena. Or other you did," Caroline called and then she slapped her hand over her mouth in horror as Stefan gave her a dark look. "Sorry."
"Whatever, I need to get out of here," Stefan got up to leave but Damon stopped him.
"Hey, Stef, it wasn't me, whatever the other Damon did. I have no control over his actions," Damon told Stefan, feeling like strangling the alternate him. And the other Damon was supposed to be a nice, little human guy. Well, I guess you take the human out of the human body and then he goes out acting wild. "Shit," Damon muttered, running his hand through hair.
"You wanted her, Damon," Stefan yelled at Damon, his eyes wide and he began to wave his arms in anger. "I already knew you had fallen for her. I just thought she wouldn't let you… let you… I need to leave. Now!" Speeding out of the house, Stefan could be heard slamming the door shut behind him.
"What else did he screw up?" Damon demanded and the group looked at each other.
"Don't look at me," Kol called with grin. "I was just undaggered recently. So, I have not a clue what any of you were up to."
"I turned Elena," Caroline blurted and then bit her lower lip. "I have to stop speaking."
"Yeah. Why don't you work on that, Blondie?" Damon snapped. "And if that's true why has Klaus not killed you yet? Oh, I know, he fell in love with you in this world, too."
Caroline looked confused. "He does?"
"He does?" Klaus echoed, looking genuinely surprised.
"Yeah," Damon replied. "Long story. Real boring. Back to how am I back?"
"My little witch brought you back," Kol told him while reaching for Bonnie.
"Your witch?" Damon raised an eyebrow.
"I am not anyone's witch," Bonnie told them, jutting her chin out.
Kol pouted, "But we were getting on so well. I thought you fancied me, Bonnie?"
"You're weird," Bonnie told him. "And I was drunk. And aren't you an Original?" Then her eyes widened and the drunk goggles seemed to slip off. "Oh, no, you're an Original."
"So am I," Rebekah told her with a grin and Bonnie moved away from her to find herself in Kol's arms.
"Don't worry, I'll be gentle," Kol whispered, looking down at Bonnie.
"Ew, back off," Bonnie shouted, shoving Kol away and giving him a nasty headache for good measure.
"We need to find Stefan," Damon muttered, running his hand through his hair.
"Or you could leave him to his lonesome. Allow him a breather of sorts." Klaus called to Damon. "After all, I would not want to be around the brother who had sex with my woman. Actually, I would kill him. So, if you want my opinion you should leave him to blow off some steam."
"Yeah, so he can go all ripper vampire again. I don't think so," Damon snapped at Klaus. "And who hell asked for your opinion. Why don't you go howl at the moon or something?"
Klaus narrowed his eyes and was about to start something when Caroline held up her hands. "Stop!" She shouted. "Klaus is right, Damon. Stefan needs space. Let's give him that. As for all the fighting and the back biting. That needs to stop to. Okay. You're back and I can't say I missed you but you're here now. So, what we really need is to do some damage control."
Staring at all of us, Caroline's face was twisted as she thought. "Like, Damon, you could tell us more about what the other world was like in case any of us ever got like magically whooshed over there we would need to know what to expect."
"Yes, I am intrigued about this other world. How did you fare as a human, Salvatore?" Klaus asked as he sat down and placed his feet on top of the table in front of him.
Damon stared at Klaus and crossed his arms. "I'm not telling you anything. How can I trust that you wouldn't want to world jump and to make your little hybrid army that way."
"You don't," Klaus replied with a wide grin.
"Klaus!" Caroline yelled. She never did loosed that ability to set Damon's teeth on edge by shrieking like that.
Klaus simply looked up at her. "Yes, love?" he replied with a mild look and hooded eyes.
"Ugh," Caroline grunted before walking away from him in disgust.
Smirking, Damon leaned against the back of the couch across from Klaus. "Trouble in paradise, Klaus?" He taunted the older vampire.
"You're back for less than an hour and you're back to being an ass," Bonnie muttered, glaring at Damon. "Not that you are ever not an ass. In the other world you weren't quite this rude."
"No, he was not," Rebekah surmised, coming to stand beside Klaus.
"Ah, shucks. You know, the longer I'm here the more I wish I could go back," Damon snapped at them. Then he saw Elena's look of shock and disappointment before she walked out of the room.
"Well, we could always send you back," Kol suggested. "Right, little witch?"
"Why does that sound like you're trying to call me something else that ends with –itch?" Bonnie questioned Kol, staring at him.
"I do believe that we should keep Mr. Salvatore here. We need to find out what exactly he knows about the other world. There is no telling what he might have done that could have repercussions not only on that world but our own," Elijah informed the group as Damon rolled his eyes.
"You can ask me tomorrow. I'm going to go find my brother," Damon announced and then sped out of the room. He had had enough of being told what to do in this world and he needed to wrap his head around being back.
Elena was a vampire. How was that possible? He would like to kill Caroline for this. But she was under Klaus' protection now. There was no way that the Original would allow Damon to kill her. And how did Elena feel about being a vampire? They hadn't even been able to talk the entire time they had been in the same room.
Then there was the part where Elena freakin' Gilbert had had sex with him. But it wasn't him. She had sex with the other him. Damon Gilbert. How could that have happened? Did that mean that Elena had developed feelings for the better model? The one with his humanity switch flipped on. What had the guy done that he hadn't done? 'What did she see in him that was missing in me?' Damon wondered.
Debating with himself, Damon didn't notice a blonde vampire appear by his side until she spoke up. "Are we looking for Stefan or are you feeling sorry for yourself because she slept with the other you?" Rebekah asked, quirking an eyebrow. "Because I have been around for a long time, Damon, and the way that Elena looked at you could not hold a candle to the way she looked at the other Damon. Yes, she had sex with him but what is sex but a physical act? You would not believe how many men I have taken to bed over the centuries. But I have only been in love a few times. And it was only worth it once."
"Oh, and who's the lucky one?" Damon asked his mind still preoccupied with thoughts of the things he had discovered since returning.
"Stefan," Rebekah told him and then looked at the sidewalk they were moving along.
"Oh, really?" Damon's eyebrows rose and he nodded quietly. "And do you think my brother feels the same way. Because he's pretty hung up on Elena." Damon informed the Original sister.
"I have no idea," Rebekah retorted. "I can only hope for the best. I would wish to not spend the rest of eternity alone."
Cocking his head to look at the female vampire, Damon felt something that he rarely did for anyone. Sympathy. "Well, maybe he'll come around and decide that Elena is just some silly school girl and what he really needs is an older woman." Damon teased Rebekah and she grinned at the sky.
"Uh huh, and maybe you and Elena will ride off into the sunset together," Rebekah retorted.
"That is so cliché. Seriously, Bexs, you need to find a new way of looking at things. Why would you ride off into the sunset when you could hangglide? I mean we're vampires. So, I think that flying into the sunset sounds cooler. Or we could climb a mountain. Try to touch the sun. Or get on a space ship and fly to the moon."
"You are crazy," Rebekah told Damon laughing as they walked into the Mystic Grill to find Stefan on top of a pool table. People were staring in awe at the vampire.
"Shit," Damon muttered as he stared in horror.
"What?" Rebekah called as she looked around for trouble. "Did he expose himself as a vampire?" This prospect made her wary as she waited for the patrons to begin shouting about fanged creatures of the night.
"No. It's worse. It's so much worse." Damon told her as he shook his head. He couldn't look away. Nor could he block out the sound as his baby brother continued to sing.
"All by myself. Don't want to be alone." Stefan crooned into an empty beer bottle.
"What do we do?" Rebekah whispered.
"Suffer through the next ten songs. And then, when the bar's closing, you'll snap his neck and we'll carry him home." Unfortunately for them the ten songs turned into twenty and Damon wished he had never come home.
