Hello, my lovely readers. We have to think about three more chapters and then we're officially done with this story and will be starting the next one. On with the show…
Chapter 34: Fertility Specialist
Damon Salvatore's World:
Elena Gilbert would be lying if she did not admit that it bothered her that Caroline had left the country with Klaus to find doctors to help them with their making babies' project. However, she was trying to be supportive. After all, Caroline was being supportive of her relationship with Damon now. The least Elena could do was respect Caroline's plan. It was really Klaus she was worried about.
And if Elena were honest it was not just Klaus' involvement with Caroline that bothered Elena. It was Stefan dating Rebekah and Bonnie's being with Kol all the time. Elijah seemed to be the only Original that did not want to involve himself with one of the people in her gang. Oh, then there was the part where she found out that Jeremy was dating a vampire.
"A vampire," Elena yelled as she paced the length of her room. "Are you kidding me with this?" Damon was nodding along as she spoke but he was looking at a photo album and seemed to be more interested in it than Elena's ranting. "Did you hear me, Damon?"
"Yes, Anna is a vampire. Big shocker. Have you seen that girls' hair. Now, that's what you should worry about. What will the other founding families say if she doesn't go to the salon and change it?" Damon grinned as Elena hit him with a pillow. "Speaking of shocking hair style choices. Check this one out."
Damon held up the photo album and showed Elena a picture of her two-year old self. Her hair was sticking out all over the place due to the humidity of that summer. "Now, think of that head of hair on some pour child's head." Damon shook his own head as Elena plucked the album away and threw it aside.
Holding out his arms Damon accepted Elena's body as she flung herself on top of him. "Are you thinking about babies, too?" Elena asked him staring down at Damon as she drew circles on top of his chest.
"Not really," Damon replied and then flipped them over. "But I may be thinking about how they get here."
"Seriously, Damon, Aunt Jenna is downstairs," Elena protested as he pulled her jeans off.
"We'll be really quiet," Damon told her and then pressed his lips to hers to prevent her giggles from being heard throughout the house. When they were naked and under the sheets he was quite happy. Then the door opened and one perky blonde and her super old boyfriend barged in.
"Elena, I have to tell you about the trip to Mexi-" Caroline began and then cried out. "OH!" Klaus began to chuckle as he pulled her back out of the room.
"Would you two like to put some clothes on before we talk?" Klaus called through the door and Elena blushed and cursed the hybrid.
"I heard that, Gilbert," Klaus chirped through the door and Damon gave Elena a look.
"Gee, Klaus, glad to know that Barbie's cheerleading has rubbed off on you," Damon told the hybrid as he opened the door with one hand and finished buttoning his shirt with the other.
Smiling broadly Klaus walked in after Caroline. "It's not her shining attitude that has been rubbing off on me that has me in this mood, Damon."
"KLAUS!" Caroline shouted as Damon began to laugh at the irritated look on the blonde's face. "Can you please not talk like that in front of my friends? Or ever."
"We're friends," Damon mused placing his hands over his heart and grinning at Caroline as she threw her hands up in the air and let out a loud groan.
"I think she was referring to me," Elena informed Damon while wrapping a supportive arm around Caroline's waist.
Caroline began to nod emphatically until Klaus intervened. "I do believe that my love used the word friends with an s implying more than one," he smiled happily as Elena held Caroline back from attacking her boyfriend. "It's nothing to be ashamed off, love. At first I felt uncertain about becoming part of the Mystic Falls do-gooder club but I'm dealing."
"Who said you were part of the club?" Damon replied with a teasing wink. "Anyway shouldn't you two still be off globetrotting so that vampires may make with the families and all that?"
"No," Klaus retorted. "We have found that there is a single answer to this dilemma and I happen to be have what we need."
"Oh, and what is that?" Elena asked looking from Klaus to Caroline who looked unhappy.
"My mother," Klaus stated his answer slowly and with a general lack of enthusiasm.
Damon blinked and then sat down on Elena's bed. "How is your mother the great answer to all things related to helping vampires advance the species?"
Klaus leaned against the door and stared out the window frowning before he spoke. "She is the Original witch or the most powerful witch that has lived if you prefer. She is the only one who would have enough power to perform the type of spell that we would need performed."
"Why do I feel like another very large shoe is about to drop," Damon muttered staring at Klaus who was staring into space lost in his thoughts.
"Because I killed my mother I find it highly doubtful that she will willingly help us," Klaus replied with a sigh.
"You killed your mother?" Elena could not contain her disgust as she stared at Klaus and then turned to Caroline who had lost her happy glow. "Caroline…"
"I know. But Damon has done really bad things, too…" Caroline retorted, her face scrunching in irritation.
"But I never killed my mother," Damon pointed out as he shrugged when Klaus gave him a dirty look.
"Yes, well, I did not mean to kill her," Klaus snapped. "She had just placed the curse upon me to force my werewolf side to become dormant and I became enraged. I was horrified afterward but the act was already committed. There was nothing I could do. Now, I take her with me where ever I go like my siblings."
"So, that's who was in the other coffin," Elena murmured as she exchanged a look with Caroline.
"Yes, that would be who is in the mystery coffin," Klaus muttered.
"And behind door number three we have angry Mama Witch who may want to do bloody harm to her out of control offspring. Now that sounds like fun on a Friday night," Damon joked and the other three vampires glared at him. "Hey, it's not my fault that none of you have a sense of humor. Kol would find that hilarious. Or maybe Jeremy."
"Jeremy," Damon shouted causing the door to Elena's room to open and for Klaus to fall into the hallway. Damon clapped, "That was a lot better than I expected."
Jeremy stared down at Klaus. "You're not going to kill me for that, are you?"
Sitting up, Klaus looked thoughtful. "No, but I may kill Damon." Speeding across the room Klaus grabbed Damon by the shirt collar and flung him through Elena's window.
"Was that necessary?" Caroline yelled staring at the hole in Elena's bedroom window.
Klaus smiled. "It made me feel better. And look at the changes you have evoked in me, love. The old Klaus would have tortured Damon until he begged for his life for less than that little joke. But the new Klaus only throws him through a window."
"Yeah, loving the new and improved you," Damon snapped as he crawled back through the window.
"And you are so paying for that," Elena informed Klaus. "How am I going to explain to Jenna that the window is broken?"
"Compulsion," Klaus answered quickly and Caroline folded her arms over her chest.
"You can't just go around compelling people all the time,"
Klaus nodded slowly. "Yes, love, that is why my credit card bill is quite small but your collection of Italian leather pumps is quite large."
Opening her mouth and then closing it Caroline refused to answer. "Tell her that Kol and I were playing baseball in the yard and we broke it," Jeremy told his sister.
"Credible and likely. I like it when Jeremy's part of the team," Damon added with a wide grin and then pulled a piece of glass out of his neck. "And, Klaus, I owe you one."
Shrugging lightly Klaus looked out the broken window. "I think it adds a certain something to the room."
"Is that your artistic opinion," Jeremy quipped and Klaus chuckled.
"Perhaps," was the only comment from the hybrid before Damon decided to intervene.
"So, how are we going to convince your mommy to help us with your little problem?" raising his eyebrows Damon focused his attention on the Original in the room who became subdued.
"I suppose that we will have to get my mother out of her coffin and find out if she will be willing to help us. However," Klaus looked sternly at Caroline. "I wouldn't raise my hopes. My mother is not above holding a grudge."
"So, there is a link to apple and tree," Damon leapt away when Elena reached out to whack her boyfriend. "Okay. Whatever. So, on tonight's episode of crazyville we're going to open the coffin of Mama Original and find out if your Mom wants to dismember you with her witchy mojo."
Klaus looked uncertain for once in all the time that they had known him. "Yes, I suppose that is the plan for the evening."
"Right then," Damon replied, feeling uncertain himself. Maybe letting the super witch out of her box was not a good idea. It was bad enough that he had been sent to another universe but to add to it creating a situation with way too many unknown variables did not make him want to do backflips of joy.
"Yes," Elena told them. She was not paying attention to the guys at the moment. She was paying attention to the hopeful look on Caroline's look and the butterflies in her own stomach. She had never put too much thought into the prospect of having a family of her own because that was years in the future but since she became a vampire she found out how fragile life is and how short. So, she had to admit she was Team Caroline on this topic. She wanted babies.
Inclining her head to the side to look at Damon, Elena saw the uncertainty on his face. Taking his hand in her hers she gave it a kiss and a squeeze. "We'll be fine," she assured him and Damon stared her in the eye. And there they were again. In their own little world that no one else could pierce because their bond was unbreakable. "I love you, Damon."
"I love you, too, Elena," Damon whispered back. "Whatever happens I've got your back."
Grinning Elena turned to Klaus. "Okay. Now, what are we going to do?"
"We shall go back to my home and open her coffin to seek out fate," Klaus informed her and then walked out of the room. They noticed how slow his movements were and the slump to his shoulders.
When they arrived at Klaus' home they found that the other Originals had already gathered in the Great Room. "Are you sure this is a good idea, Niklaus?" Elijah questioned his brother. Katherine was sitting on the couch, nervously glancing at Klaus who paid her very little attention.
"I have no idea, brother," Klaus snapped tensing as he walked over to pour himself a drink.
"Why would you even want her out of her coffin?" Kol called leaning into the couch with his arm around Bonnie's shoulders. "She'll just be a downer like Lijah." Elijah turned to reprimand Kol when Rebekah interjected.
"All this so that Caroline may have her wish. This is beyond unreasonable, Nik. You're putting all of our lives at risk for this baby vampire. Are you truly out of your wits?" Rebekah snarled as she came over and yanked the glass tumbler out of her brother's shaking hand.
Whirling to face his sister, Klaus' expression darkened. "Sister, I can assure you that you have nothing to worry about where our Mother is concerned," he hissed before yanking the glass away from Rebekah.
"She doesn't know," Caroline gasped, her jaw dropping.
Rebekah spun around to stare at Caroline. "What are you going on about?"
Before Caroline could answer Stefan leaned forward on the couch and grabbed Rebekah's hand. She glanced down at Stefan's hand and then in the direction of his gaze as all attention went to the woman in a long dress with hair swinging down her back. "Mother," Rebekah gasped and Klaus dropped his glass.
No one reacted to the sound of the shattering glass as Esther walked into the middle of the room. Unconsciously Damon stepped in front of Elena and Caroline took a step closer to Klaus. "Children," Esther addressed the Original siblings. "I have missed you all."
Klaus began to walk toward her on shaky legs. Caroline reached for his hand as she moved to step past him. He seemed to be lost as he looked away from his mother to find Caroline walking toward his mother by his side.
Elena sucked in a deep breath and moved to stand beside her friend as Bonnie and Damon followed her. Rebekah, Kol and Elijah came to stand beside their brother as Stefan came to stand somewhere in the middle.
Esther folded her hands together. "I see that things are changing. Now, what is that you would like from me?"
Klaus sucked in a deep breath. "Your forgiveness, Mother."
Esther's eyebrows rose. "Yes, I know that, Niklaus. I also know that there are others things that you want from me. Tell me, my child, what do you want?"
Squeezing Caroline's hand, Klaus jutted his chin, trying to force his pride down for her sake. "Caroline wishes to have a family and in spite of my telling her that this is impossible she still believes that there is a way. I have gone to many in the supernatural world and they have told me that you are the only one with the power to help us." Gesturing to the group he looked around. "To help us all."
Nodding, Esther stared Klaus in the eye. "And is this what you want, my son?"
Klaus sucked in a deep breath looking at Caroline whose eyes were wide. "Yes," he replied with a decisive nod.
"And the rest of you? You also want this ability?" Esther asked, looking around the group as the others nodded except for Kol.
"Really, I feel like I'm a bit young to be a father," Kol told his mother and then looked at Bonnie who rolled her eyes. "But you never know. I like to think that I have done almost everything but I guess there are things I have yet to try."
"Well then, that answers my question," Esther told them. "However, there has been a disturbance in the supernatural world lately and that must be corrected first."
"What do you mean?" Damon asked the witch not liking the sound of her words. He had had enough of witches and their spells.
"There has been splitting of worlds. Do you sense that there is something wrong?" Esther was no longer addressing Damon as she looked at Bonnie who nodded.
"Yeah, something felt off for a little while now," Bonnie informed the older witch.
"This must be corrected before I can perform the spell that you would like me to perform," Esther announced.
"What do you have to do?" Elena asked Esther moving closer to Damon.
"I must merge the two worlds once more," Esther told Elena.
"Oh, that's all," Damon said sarcastically. "By all means. Go for it. What's the worst that could happen?" He would come to regret those words in the proceeding hours as his world began to shift and things went black. Not this again Damon thought as he fell to the floor with everyone else in the room.
Waking up, Damon expected to find himself on the beach in Greece again with Elena Salvatore or some other kind of world. Instead, he awoke to find himself still in the middle of Klaus' Great Room with the rest of the group. Only now he was seeing double everyone. "What in the hell?" Damon gasped as Damon Gilbert got to his feet and stared back at him.
"This isn't possible," Damon Gilbert whispered.
"Yup, I think Mama Witch screwed up," Damon Salvatore murmured as he turned to glare at two Esther Mikaelsons. That could not be a good sign in his opinion.
