Mass Effect Shepard Rises.
Shepard and his team had been wandering around the silent planet now for half an hour. So far the Geth had put up little to no resistance. The whole planet was quiet; not a sound of singing birds or the sounds of animals. It was unsettling to Shepard.
"This place is too quiet, Shepard. I don't like it; makes my plates itch."
Shepard turned and looked over his shoulder at Wrex. "I agree, although if this is a trap there is little we can do, except spring the trap." He looked back ahead and spoke again "Tali are you picking up anything?" He watched out the corner of his eyes as Tali lifted up her Omni-tool and press the holographic display buttons.
"Sorry, Shepard. All I'm picking up is that strange power signature, it's throwing off my scans." Shepard nodded and scanned the area through his rifle's scope. He could see nothing out of the ordinary, so Shepard motioned for his squad to follow and continued to follow his on-board HUD map. As the team walked slowly in a circle, their weapons raised and ready to fire, they stopped in front of two statues sitting on what look like thrones. They had long legs and arms and their head was bowed. It looked like their skin had pipes intertwined with flesh and around there eyes was cracked.
"Keelah is that what a Prothean looks like?"
Shepard could only shrug but as he looked at the statue he got the feeling of Déjà vu "I think… I have seen these before." As he looked closely at the statue he raked his memory trying to remember where he had seen the statues before but his memory failed him.
"What did you say Shepard?"
Shepard turned to Tali and shook his head. "Doesn't matter. Come on. According to the map we are nearly there." Shepard looked around and (according to the map) they had to go in between two stone pillars. Shepard started to walked towards them with his crew falling in behind as he reached the pillar. He pressed his back against the stone rock and he peaked out, finding a series of small terminals with a blue glow around the edges. As he looked around the area a flicker of movement caught his attention. Pulling back Shepard lifted up his rifle.
"I caught sight of movement, so be ready for anything. On my mark go out guns blazing." Shepard watched as his team lifted their various weapons and nod. "Three, two and mark." Shepard charged around the corner with his team closely on his heels. As he came around the corner, a clicking sound was heard and Geth seemed to pour out the ruins of buildings and out the overgrown wild life. Shepard powered up his biotics and glowed purple as he took a shot at the green coloured Geth that come out from in between some over grown bushes. The shot struck true and the light from the Geth's head flickered then died as the Geth slumped to the floor. Shepard dodged to the left as a Geth came charging at him, and he simply raised his right hand and closed line the Geth. As the Geth hit the ground with a thud he placed his rifle point blank onto its metal face and pulled the trigger. At the same time, his left hand glowed in biotic power as he threw a singularity at a small group of Geth.
"I Am Krogan!" Shepard watched as Wrex charged at the group of Geth; his shotgun spitting fire as he ran. Shepard pulled out his combat knife and ran towards the group following closely behind Wrex. The metal shell around the Geth started to buckle and crack before they dropped to the floor with a thud and started to get up off the floor with machine-like grace. As Shepard and Wrex both got near the group they dodged out the way as the Geth engaged them in hand to hand combat. Shepard dodged left while Wrex dodged right, and as he dodged Shepard slammed his legs into the Geth's metal legs and succeeded in not only bruising his leg but also knocking the Geth onto the floor. Shepard's knife shot out and sliced at the tubes that were classed as the neck of the Geth. As the knife cut through the tubes white fluid gushed out and the Geth's optic dimmed. Jumping back to his feet Shepard ducked under a swing from a second Geth that was encased in a white shell, his fists glowed purple and he attacked with a left and a right hook, denting the armour before he spun away from the Geth's right hook and spun behind the Geth before he gripped the Geth's head. Using his cybernetic and biotic strength he twisted the head and pulled it away from the body.
At the same time as Shepard was fighting two Geth, Wrex had barrelled into his own Geth, crushing it with his 800 pound weight. With a biotic push Wrex threw the crushed Geth at another Geth trying to get into cover, and with a smile Wrex lifted up his shotgun and blew a massive hole on the chest of the fallen Geth. Tali used her Omni-tool to help her Nehya out and overloaded the Geth he was running towards. It wouldn't stop the Geth; just slow it down long enough for Shepard to get close enough to kill it. A clicking sound caught her attention and as she turned to look to the right on the old weed covered wall was a Geth hopper. It turned it's synthetic head and looked towards her. Tali watched for a split second as its glowed a brighter and brighter quickly. She dodged and raised her shotgun, firing but just missing as the hopper jumped from the wall towards another wall.
"Fre'eg hold still." She fired her shotgun again and missed, and with a growl Tali sent out a overload at the hopper. As it's body twitched and whined she raised her shotgun and blew half the body away on the left side of its body. Shepard looked over the battle. Each of his team had performed brilliantly. Wrex was stomping on a still twitching Geth with a smile on his face and Tali was hunched over slightly taking deep breathes, Shepard walked towards her and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"You okay Nehya?" He asked. When she looked up at him, their eyes met and locked together before she nodded slightly. "Good, what about you, Wrex? You okay?" he looked over at the hulking Krogan.
"Haha, Shepard. Keep up with all this fighting and I might just give you a Krogan kiss."
Shepard shuddered and chuckled at the same time. "No thanks, Wrex. Save it for Garrus." Shepard looked back at Tali who had slipped from his grip and was looking at the glowing Geth terminals.
"From what I can tell Shepard, these are power nodes." He watched as she followed the cables from the terminals along the ground until she reached a stone wall that was slightly darker colour than the wall around it, with a flick of her Omni-tool the stone made a grinding sound and the stone split in two opening to reveal an elevator. As the dust settled Shepard could just make out a light on the ceiling flickering, he walked to the elevator and looked inside. Even with his helmet on he could smell the damp and rot inside. "Any idea were this goes?" He asked as he continued to look inside.
"According to my Omni-tool the power signature spikes, could lead to the power signature." Shepard stepped into the elevator with Wrex and Tali following behind him once they were all in, the elevator groaned from the weight.
"Nobody move." he said as he and his team stood still listening as the groaning got steadily quieter. Shepard reached out and pushed the only button on a green flickering holographic screen, the doors groaned and creaked before they shut and the gears of the elevator screeched and then it started to move.
Saren.
Saren and his Geth stood in front of the conduit. Behind him was the Prothean compound, a small river of water trickling out the compound formed a small lake around the conduit, four Geth colossus stood on their four legs scanning the area for the human, Commander Shepard. An intense pain washed over his mind that made him drop to his knees a deep dooming voice screamed in his mind.
"Have you reached the conduit, Saren?"
The voice sent shivers down his spine and he spoke through gritted teeth. "Yes, Master. The Geth are trying to power it up as we speak." The cybernetics in his body heated up for a moment and it felt like his body would melt.
"Must I warn you of the price of failure, you will never save your race from the Reapers if you do not get that conduit operational?"
Saren felt his body spasm in pain and the blue glowing cybernetics infused into his flesh flashed brighter his brain felt like millions of needles were getting pushed into it "No, master." He spat out blue blood that had filled his mouth.
"Good once you reach the Citadel, contact me and you will ascend to your rightful place." The pain lessened before it disappeared completely and Saren stood on shaky legs, turning back to look up at the conduit. He motioned for a white armoured Geth to come to him and once he stood in front of him he spoke.
"Nazara has spoken and we are taking too long, activate the conduit. NOW!" He watched as the Geth bowed to him and then turned clicking as he walked toward three Geth that were huddled around the conduit.
Shepard.
The door to the elevator opened with a loud groan and he and his team stepped out into a corridor that was covered in plants. To the left of him was a dead end; the tunnels looked collapsed in on itself and to the right was a long corridor. As he and his team walked down the corridor; their weapons raised and ready to spit death, they neared the end of the corridor and saw the room beyond open up into a small cavern with what looked like mud paths splitting off and raining up to the ceiling. Shepard stopped just before he entered the large area and while in the shadows scanned the area on either side of the room two large Geth colossus folded and powered down two terminals sat in front of them with wires connecting them together, in the middle of the room was a group of four Geth each stood perfectly still.
"What are they doing?" He whispered as he looked back at Tali and Wrex.
"Seem to be on standby powering up maybe or using the programs inside them for other purposes." Shepard nodded, reached down to his belt and pulled a grenade out of his grenade pouch. With a flick of the button the grenade started to beep and he threw it at the Geth. The grenade landed with a thud in the centre of the Geth but if the Geth heard the thud they didn't show any signs. After five seconds the grenade blew and the Geth platforms were engulfed in fire as they flew across the room and landed in a pile of heated and melted metal. Shepard expected the two large Geth platforms to activate but they didn't. Carefully he and his team stepped into the room and started to walk to the end of the room. As they got half way they could just make out a flickering of light from a room above them. For the first time they noticed that two paths were on either side of the room and a bridge with grass and moss covered it. The two mud paths seemed to head towards were the flickering light was coming from.
"The power signature is coming from that room." Shepard looked down at Tali and nodded and started to walk to the back of the room, as he reached the mud path on the right side of the room he walked up it and stepped into the room. A terminal sat in the middle of the room; a green glow and screen coming from the top of the terminal. He motioned for Tali to have a look at the terminal and once he knew she was he looked over the room.
"Err Shepard there is nothing I can do with this terminal, I can't even understand the language." Shepard walked besides Tali and looked at the terminal as he looked at it the funny shaped letters changed before his eyes into English.
"Seems fine to me, see look here it clearly says that's power to the stasis chamber." He watched as Tali looked at the screen then at him with wide eyes.
"Keelah, you can read that?"
He shrugged and pushed a few buttons. "There, the door Saren went through should be open now." With that he turned to leave when a ball of light flickered into existence besides the terminal and started to speak.
"Looks like a VI but I can't understand it and it looks badly damaged." Shepard walked towards the VI.
"No escape… overwhelmed… only hope… conduit… Citadel…" Shepard looked over his shoulder and turned to look at Tali.
"It is damaged like you said, but it also mentioned the conduit. That's about it, though. Come on, there's an elevator back there." he pointed to an corridor facing the opposite side of the terminal. "It should take us back to near Garrus's position." With that he walked down the corridor with Tali and Wrex on his heel.
