Moments

I don't own anything just the thoughts in my head.

Quick AN: Thank you so much to all of the people who are following this story. From the people who were with me in the beginning to the people who are just now discovering this story. It makes me super happy every time I see someone follow/favorite my story or follow/favorite me. This is my most successful story so far and it's one of the one's I've worked the hardest on. I've lost sleep over this story, I've spaced out over this story. It's such a big deal for me so, thank you all very much. Sorry I don't have a good update schedule, my life is pretty much constantly hectic. I'm working on getting better about posting, for this stories and others.

Chapter 32

They didn't even noticed when I barged into the room. There was a head, well part of a head. All I could see was hair, lots of hair and blood. It was weird and looked like it hurt a lot. Was there supposed to be so much blood?

Careful not to get in anyone's way I took my place next to Ali's bedside. I blocked out all sound. There was a pure look of relief on Ali's face when I grabbed her hand. Tears leaked out her eyes and I swore to myself. If there was anything I could do to trade places with her, I'd do it.

"Isn't there some kind of potion or spell you could use to lessen the pain?" I asked.

Just like that sound came back. Healers were talking in rushed voices amongst themselves. Ali was screaming in moaning. There was a scuffing of feet. A loud beeping noise.

"You shouldn't be in here."

"I'm not going anywhere. So some one tell me what's going on."

"Please" Ali barely whispered, but somehow I think we all heard her.

The head healer spoke to Ali, but I caught every word. "There are several complications. When you started labor it was accelerated for some reason. You we're supposed to have contractions that close to each other so soon." I squeezed Ali's hand as I listened, not liking the way this was sounding already. "The baby tried to make its way out before you could dilate 10 cms. The sac tore and your placenta detached. that means the baby isn't getting enough air and needs to be delivered as soon as possible. Most of us have never seen anything like this before. We would normally suggest a muggle C-section at this point, but you're hemorrhaging. So we're trying to stop the blood clot. And that's the reason for all potions we keep feeding you. In a second we're going to ask you to push. When you do, we're going to need it to be a big push. When the baby comes out half of the healers will work on the baby to make sure everything is okay, and the rest of us are going to be here patching you up. Are you ready?"

No! I barely understood half of that.

"James."

"I'm not going anywhere" I replied. The healers would have to knock me out and drag me away in order to get me to leave.

"Okay, here we go. Three...two...one...push!"

Ali screamed and I'm about eighty percent sure that popping sound was my hand.

I kept Ali's stare unflinchingly. The healers were saying something, but I didn't hear a thing. It was like someone cast a silence charm on the whole room. I could see Ali's mouth was open, but didn't hear a sound.

When she stopped, I noticed she looked ten shades paler, her eyes were bloodshot, and she was covered in layers of sweat. There was movement going on in my peripherals, but I couldn't focus on anything at all.

She was trying to say something, but I still couldn't hear. I leaned in closer realizing she was no longer gripping my hand, it was me holding on to her.

"James…"her breath came out raspy.

"I'm here."

Her eyes focused in on mine.

"Don't. let…."

Don't let what? "Ali. Ali! ALI! TALK TO ME" I shook her a little. "Don't let what?!"

Her next three words chilled me.

Ali's eyes closed. NOOOOOOOOO!

A healer pointed her wand at Ali's chest. Ali's eyes opened; they sought out mine and then closed again.

Hands were touching on my shoulders but I couldn't move. I knew I was probably in the way but I couldn't move. I couldn't see. Everything was blurry and frozen and cold.

It felt like there was a dementor in the room sucking my soul out.

Dad? When did he get here? When did I get in the hallway? Where am I? Where's Ali?

I tried to speak, but no words came out.

"Here drink this."

I took the cup dad offered and swallowed it in one gulp. My throat felt raw and I could taste blood in my mouth.

"Alison" I muttered. It came out like I had just smoked a pack of Newports. "Ali? Where is she?" I barely understood myself.

"Answer me dad."

Dad just looked at me, I couldn't meet his eyes. I can't.

"I want to see her. Can I see her?" I asked dad. He looked to mum who was holding up an sobbing Rose.

I always heard that the...that they look like they're sleeping. You know, eternal sleep and all that, but it's not true. Yeah, her eyes were closed so she could have been asleep, but she was too pale. Too cold. Ali always slept with a smile on her face and her hair pulled back.

"James" a feminine voice spoke as a soft hand landed on my shoulder. I looked up and blinked. When did Victorie get here? Who else was all here? Did my whole family show up?

"The healers want to talk to you. I told them it was too soon. I can feed her if you want. But we need your approval."

I blinked.

"Her? The baby? It's a girl? She's alive"

Victoire nodded softly tears going down her cheek. "Yes. She's a girl and she's beautiful. You should come see her."

Should I? I remember the hair. Tons of brown hair. If I was paying attention then I would've realized she was a girl. I just couldn't….What if she looks like Ali?

"Yes, you can feed her."

"Come with me" Victoire urged.

"No thanks, I'm going to stay right here."

Victoire pat my back. "I'll keep her safe for you okay."

I nodded numbly. "Rose? Where's Rose?"

Time went by like a blur. People moved all around me. Some spoke to me, some touched me, but I didn't. I'm half convinced that this is all a dream or a prank gone wrong. I need….I need to wake up or be de-spelled, if I could just go back in time. Go back twenty-four hours ago. Everything was fine then. I was James Potter the happily married Quidditch cup winner about to have my first child and now…now everything has changed.

One moment changed it all. It ripped my heart out and tore my life to shreds. My soul sucked right into the ether.

A firm grip grasped my hand causing me too look up in shock. My dad was staring at me with wide fearful eyes. That's when I realized I had pulled my wand out and pointed it at myself.

"James."

I dropped the wand. I don't know where that came from. I wasn't trying to off myself. Not consciously. I mean, what's the point of offing myself if I already feel dead.

AN: Don't hate me. Please don't hate me. I had this chapter in my head every since the very first chapter. This was always the big Moment in James' life. Nothing will be the same after this. This isn't the end of the story, there's about nine more chapters to go.
