Mass Effect Shepard Rises.
Shepard had driven the Mako through the catacombs of the research base following Vigil's directions the V.I had sent to the MAKO's on board navigation systems. The Geth had put up some resistance trying to ambush the team given any chance they got but with his driving skills (or lack there off if you listened to Garrus) the Geth had quickly fallen to Garrus's precision firing.
Now Shepard had stopped the Mako overlooking an amazing sight. The catacombs had opened up revealing a large pool of water where water trickled in from all sides of the compound. In the centre of the pool was a small scale mass relay.
The water seemed to act as a coolant as the base of the mass relay was smoking. The centre of the relay had the same glowing centre as a normal mass relay but the only difference was this smaller mass relay was rusted around the edges and the metal groaned loudly as it spun around the eezo in the centre.
The sight would have been breath taking if not for what lay between the MAKO and the relay, Shepard had checked the sensors and looked out the window twice before he could believe that four Geth colossus stood between them. He glanced at Tali who looked back at him with wide eyes.
"Keelah."
Shepard sighed and looked back at the displays before overlooking Tali again. "Tali, put everything you can into the shields including life support." He looked back at the rest of the group in the back of the MAKO Wrex sitting on the bench with a bored expression and Garrus sat at the MAKO gunners seat "Helmets on people, this might get rough." He turned back to Tali as she finished adding more power to the shields, the air recycler inside the MAKO hissed then stopped and Garrus's gunners terminal powered down.
"I have switched everything off except for the shields and the throttle and steering control."
Shepard nodded and turned back to his controls and hit a button on the terminal. Seat belts folded out from the seats and over his shoulder and they clicked between his legs. He glanced back and found his team following suit. "Ok here goes Tali keep an eye on our shields. We don't stop or slow down, there four Geth colossus between us and the Relay" He took a deep breath before he slammed his foot on the throttle and rocketed towards the mass relay.
The Geth colossus didn't see them at first until it turned its head as it scanned the area the flash light on the front of its 'face' glowed brighter and flashed a blue ball of energy at the speeding MAKO. Shepard didn't even bother to dodge the incoming fire; he was focused entirely on the relay the centre of the relay flickered slightly and the spinning arms slowed for a second before resuming at their normal speed.
"Shepard I'm reading power fluctuations from the relay I think it's about to power down."
Shepard nodded but didn't turn to look at Tali behind him he could hear Garrus mutter something about spirits as the MAKO shook from the four combined power of the colossus.
"Shepard shields are nearly gone! One or two more shots and we're dead."
The Mako shook again and the interior was bathed in a red as the terminal next to his flashed in a warning. "Shields are gone, Shepard. One more hit and the MAKO will be destroyed."
The MAKO sped closer to the relay and as it got closer the energy in the centre reached out to the MAKO and covered the tank before it shot away. The back of the MAKO was blown off before all Shepard could see was white.
Normandy.
Joker sat in the pilot seat of the Normandy. He could feel the power of the ship vibrate his chair slightly he glanced at Kaidan's old station to find Pressly sitting there watching the ground teams bio signs. As he watched Pressly the bio signs flickered briefly before disappearing.
"Joker, get us out of here. We are meeting with the Fifth Fleet. Admiral Hackett owes me a few favours and it's time to cash in."
Joker nodded and turned back to his controls. As his fingers flow over the controls he could feel the Normandy vibrate as its enormous drive core sent power to the thrusters. He glided the Normandy through space heading towards the Mass relay as Pressly sent him the location of the Fifth Fleet, the Normandy was covered in a blue light before the deck plate vibrated with power from both the engines and the relay as it was shot off heading towards the Arcturus sector and the Fifth Fleet.
Citadel.
Onboard the Citadel flagship the Destiny Ascension the asari captain watched as hundreds of Geth ships exited the relay. In the centre of the Geth fleet was a huge squid like ship. Red electricity arced around its dark hull "Shield up prepare all forward weapon's and somebody close the Citadel arms NOW." She shouted and watched as her bridge crew followed her orders. The pilot spun her chair around and looked at her.
"The arms aren't moving and I can't raise the Citadel on the com."
The Captain slammed her purple arms on her Chair and jumped to her feet and ran towards the pilot station "Prepare the fleet; when the Geth are in range open fire." She watched out the screen as the Turians formed up behind her ship and the empty area in front of the Citadel fleet and the Geth fleet was covered in weapons fire. "Get the council off the station. Now!" She shouted as the huge ship sped its way towards the Citadel, ramming two turian cruisers on it way and destroying them with ease.
"The Arms are closing."
The Asari Captain nodded. "Thank the goddess, what about the council?" She gripped the pilot's station as the ship shook around her.
"The council are on board captain."
The Captain nodded. "Good, helm get us out of here." She said as she turned from the pilot station and sat heavily on her captain's chair.
Inside the Citadel.
The MAKO shot out the Mass relay monument on the Citadel and crashed into a group of patrolling Geth before coming to a halt on a nearby wall. Wrex was the first one out of the MAKO. His face had orange blood dripping down from his head plates and his left arm was bent at an unnatural angle.
Shepard was out next holding his left arm to his bruised ribs from the violent stop. He watched as Garrus and Tali limped out the Mako with their Omni-tools raised and injecting Medi-gel over their wounds. He walked over to Wrex who spat orange blood on the floor. "You okay, Wrex?" He asked as the two of them scanned the area before their eyes settled on the Mass relay monument; the eezo in the centre of the relay flickered before flickering and powering down.
"Yeah, fine. Those seats weren't meant to hold 800 pounds of Krogan. My head bounced off the metal wall."
Shepard nodded. "Do you need a minute?" he asked as he noticed four dragons' teeth with one Asari and two humans impaled on the spikes.
"Hell no. Regeneration's already kicked in. I'll be good as new in a minute."
Shepard nodded and looked around the dim area. He noticed the arms of the Citadel had been closed and fires raged on different arms lighting the area in flickering light, the air was hazy and even through his helmet he could smell the faint smell of death. He walked over to Tali and placed a hand on her shoulder she trembled in his touch before she sneezed.
"Damn infection, don't worry I'm fine; maybe a bruise or two." He nodded and opened his mouth to speak when a low groaning cut him off. He turned to the sound and saw the spike on a dragon teeth lower and a grey lifeless body dropped to the ground. Blue cybernetics flickered and glowed, two eyeless sockets turned to look at him.
He pulled his knife and pistol from his hip and charged at the husk as it jumped to it's feet and hobbled towards him moaning. When within reach he ducked its clumsy swing at his head and holding his knife in his right hand he slid it up the husks chest and fired two shots at the still beating heart. He glanced around at his team briefly to see Wrex ripping the arms of a husk before ramming into another asari type husk and stomping his foot on the husk's head.
Garrus was sitting on what was left of the MAKO sniping two husks that were at the far end of the corridor. Tali on the other hand was blasting a husk into small chunks with her shotgun and kicking another husk with her powerful leg.
He could tell she was hurting; she kept her shotgun close to her chest. He glanced around the area looking for any more husks. For the first time he noticed Avina the Citadel's V.I flickering from a damaged V.I projector that sparked. The elevator for the council chambers were directly across from the V.I terminal with a wave of his hand his rag tag group of aliens fell in behind him.
The group waited in the elevator as it slowly rose towards the council chambers. A dry cough echoed in the small space and all eyes except for Shepard's turned to Tali, who in turn bounced on her toes.
"So…. Tali want to tell me about your immune system." Shepard glanced over his shoulder at Garrus and watched his mandables twitch in what was a turian grin.
He glanced at Tali who casually tapped her three fingered hand on her shotgun. "Ah forget I said anything, Wrex what about you anything to share?" Shepard turned to look at Wrex who shrugged and placed a hand on his crotch area and wriggled it around.
"Armours a little tight or could be I am too big. Take your pick, turian." Shepard glanced at Tali who shuddered and turned away muttering 'Keelah' under her breath.
The elevator suddenly slammed to a stop and Shepard felt his stomach lurch. He hit the button for the council chambers again but the elevator didn't move, the lights above his head flickered and died he glanced about and found the only way out. "So who is up for a little walk?" He raised his pistol and fired point blank range at the large glass window.
A light smoke filled the elevator from the numerous fires around the Citadel arms. "Magnetize your boots." He commanded as he pulled himself out the window and stood on the side of the elevator. He looked from his boots slowly upwards as his body adjusted to the new position. He walked to the top of the elevator but for him it was a jump to the floor.
He pulled his rifle from his back and scanned the area as his team joined him. In front of him was the elevator shaft with numerous maintenance tunnels and small round keeper tunnels. At the very end of the elevator shaft was the council chambers and above that was the huge reaper sovereign; its squid like arms wrapped around the shaft and council chambers and red electricity danced around its arms.
One arm raised and hit the tower. It did it again and again rattling the very tower. His team except for Wrex was shocked at the size of Sovereign they each muttered a single word "Keelah," "Spirits" and in his case "Oh shit."
He motioned his team to follow the only available route and ducked into a tunnel that ran alongside the elevator shaft. An elevator came into view and stopped just ahead of his team.
A gunshot sounded and glass shards floated in the air as four Geth jumped out the elevator. He watched as Wrex charged straight down the middle of the path, his shields absorbing the fire from the machines.
Tali was crouched down by a metal shaft that had computer lights and wires exposed. Shepard glowed purple and threw a singularity at two Geth trying to get into cover, and with a smile he raised his rifle and shot the floating Geth with ease.
He scanned the area for any more Geth. Only one remained and that didn't last long when its head suddenly exploded in a shower of sparks. "Scratch one."
He glanced behind him and chuckled at Garrus before making his way towards the end of the shaft. He placed his back on the wall and looked around the corner. It was a dead end with another path on the left. He could see two hulking shadows on the floor. His hand reached to his belt and he pulled off two grenades and primed them, acting quickly he jumped out of cover and threw the grenades against the wall.
He ducked back into cover as his team formed up beside him. Five seconds later a muffled explosion was heard along with two roars. He and Wrex ran around the corner together with their shotguns raised, as they turned the corner they saw two Krogan trying to get up off the floor; their bodies charred. With two quick shots, the two Krogan went limp and floated away from the floor.
