"I don't remember this in the game..." Cyborg grunted, hand on sword. Before them an enormous stone passage yawned, with small steps leading down into darkness. One torch flickered meekly at eye level beside the door, but else wise, all was dark.
On the ground a weathered Triforce insignia was dyed. In the center triangle an Ikana skull rested on a folded red cloak, a Gerudan cloak.
Raven shivered; this felt all too familiar. "Let's go,"
Taking an extinguished torch from the other wall, Raven lit and handed it to Cyborg. She held the other, despite Beast Boy's outstretched hand. The other pouted, but drew his sword and took up the rear.
They carefully descended, the stairs angling slightly left. There was the smell of dust and old books in the air, and Raven found it was not as appealing as usual.
"BB, when we nab him this time, let me handle the remote," Cyborg whispered after a while.
"Alright dude, I learned my lesson last time, cheese and crackers..." Beast Boy rolled his eyes and strained his ears. There was no sound but their steps and breathing.
Raven spoke up, "This is a trap you know," Cyborg grunted in reply, "Yeah, but we'll beat it. There isn't really any other way-"
Beast Boy's hand shot forward and grabbed Raven's shoulder. The other shoved him off, but looked at where he pointed. Right ahead the stairs ended, dropping down to some dark pit. She lowered her torch to look at the edge, and uttered a sheepish "Sorry,"
The green one just shrugged and walked back to the wall. Extending his sword he felt a narrow ledge there, and tentatively placed a foot on it, "Okay, there is a ledge here, but it'll be tight,"
He sheathed his sword and looked to Cyborg, "Torch?"
"Here," Cyborg followed Beast Boy, and Raven followed him.
All was quiet again. The passage way seemed to swallow sound, and the young heroes did their best not to disturb it.
More stairs followed, spanning the hall once again. With little hassle they at last reached a platform at what they assumed was the end of the stairs. Raven felt along the wall and lit another torch there, and Beast Boy did the same for the other.
This gave them maybe thirty feet of light, and Raven stared at the wall before her, noticing for the first time that it was painted. A Golden Goddess figure was before her, arms raised. She looked on and saw a floating island, and beneath a valley. A blackness filled its depths. When she looked to the next, she saw a man in green wielding a large sword. Behind him was an angelic figure, and before him...
Raven gasped, and Cyborg was at her side, "What is it?" Raven pointed a shaking finger at the wall, and Cyborg examined the rendering in confusion. It looked like a scene from Skyward Sword, Link fighting the black beast Demise in the valley floor. The pedestal sat between them, covered in white markings and, Cyborg's jaw dropped, the mark of Scath.
Beast Boy came over, curious, and noticed the picture. His eye brows shot upward and he reached out a hand to touch the symbol, rubbing it to be sure it wasn't a
mistake.
"How," Cyborg began, and Beast Boy looked at Raven fearfully.
The empath did her best not to take the looks seriously, after all it was her father they feared, not her. "I... I don't know," she stepped away from Cyborg and placed her hand where Beast Boy's had been, "Coincidence?"
Beast Boy shook his head, "No, this is different, I've never seen this in a Zelda game before." Raven brought her hand to her chest, pressed it over her heart. It beat steadily, the product of discipline on Raven's part. Most importantly, there was no trace of the cold, the tearing, that her father gave off when near.
"Well, he isn't here now," she assured them, and they all shared a collective sigh of relief.
Raven steeled herself, and clenched her fist, "Let's just get home already."
Beast Boy gave her an odd look, and her grimace in return brought his words, "I never pegged you for being homesick," Raven shrugged, saying "You have no idea," quietly to herself.
Cyborg caught his friend's eye, and Beast Boy motioned to her questioningly. Cyborg shook his head no, now wasn't the time. "C'mon," Raven set off down the hallway, torch held high, and the others followed, silent once again.
TtTtTtTtTtTtTtTtTtTt
The scream of the ReDead sent chills down his spine, and Beast Boy whipped his sword around before the creature could grapple him. It crumpled with a throaty moan, and turned to ash.
Beast Boy took a deep breath a wiped his brow, taking a look back down the hallway to see how Cyborg and Raven were. Cyborg had skewered one and used it's cold body as a shield as he chopped down the others. The last one fell in two pieces, and with a kick Cyborg sent the skewered one flying to crumple against the far wall.
Raven wiped ash from her hands, "This is a kid's game?"
Beast Boy couldn't help but chuckle, "Just be glad you don't have to fight a Deadhand,"
Cyborg moaned, "Those things suck." he, still in the she body, strode forward and illuminated the large wall at the end of the tunnel.
"What's the Elvish word for friend, eh Cy?" Beast Boy sheathed his sword and gave the wall a knock. He moved down the expanse, solid thuds turning to a hollow thunk. "Ah, here it is," He leaned against the wall and gave it a shove. Nothing happened.
Cyborg sighed and pushed the teen aside. He leaned his massive woman shoulder into the hollow spot, and gave a mighty shove. With a hiss and the grinding of stone a section of wall fell inward, kicking up dust in its wake.
Beyond was what looked like a throne room, well lit with torches and fire pits. Raven stepped through first, giving the space a cursory glance. the middle of the room was raised slightly, and she could see the top tooth of gears beneath, meaning the room could be raised or lowered.
Beast Boy poked his head around Cyborg, "Oh, this I recognize,"
A throne made of bone rested in the dais' center, but it was unoccupied. Skulls from the Warriors of Ikana were scattered in an occult fashion, but else wise the tall room seemed empty.
"It's a bit different," Cyborg corrected Beast Boy, the latter sticking his tongue out in response.
Raven called out, voice echoing "Control Freak?" The response was a deep note from some unseen pipe organ. The notes continued in an ominous rhythm, so loud and deep that the air vibrated.
A shimmering bubble materialized around the bone throne, and as it faded they saw their adversary. Control Freak was slouching in the throne, one leg over an armrest, a wine glass in hand. His red hair was tightly braided and held back, and his skin was a deep green. Though he wore armour, his legendary bulk was still visible, along with his lack of height.
Control Freak did his best Ganon laugh, so deep that it made him cough, spilling his wine. He held up a finger and coughed it out, then panting returned to his slouch. "So Titans, you have come to stop me."
Beast Boy and Cyborg exchanged exasperated looks, but it was Raven who responded, "Come on Control Freak, give it up. We don't want to hurt you,"
Control Freak tried the Ganon laugh again, but abandoned it halfway. "Oh really? But what if I want to hurt you?"
"Then you're stupid. But we already knew that." Cyborg crossed his arms and frowned and the chubby villain. The other snorted back a real laugh, "Silence Cy-Babe," Beast Boy also hand to cover his mouth as a laugh threatened to burst out.
Cyborg just frowned deeper, "You are soooooo done." He ran at the other, but Control Freak raised a hand and a ball of lighting appeared, streaking out to catch him. Cyborg was lifted off the ground by the blast, and fell unconscious back to the entrance.
"Hey, what was that for?" Beast Boy drew his sword. Control Freak rolled his eyes, "She was charging. I can defend myself you know."
"Well then, defend this," Beast Boy charged and Raven called out "wait!" but she was too late. Lighting struck Beast Boy, and the little guy flew back, a frustrated yell his only response, "Hey, no fair, the sword is supposed to..."
Control Freak picked up the sword and waved its handle about. "Oh yeah, it's not the master sword," Beast Boy grumbled, head flopping.
Raven just stood there, arms crossed. Control Freak looked at her, then grabbed his chin in thought, stroking a non-existent beard in Jedi fashion. "Man, I had something for this,"
Control Freak shrugged, "Oh, whatever, let's do this!" he raised his hands, lighting balls crackling. He snickered at the thought of the author writing that last sentence; phrasing indeed.
Raven rolled her eyes, for what she sincerely wished was the last time, and she said "No."
The geek's mouth was already open for a battle cry, but it fell, along with his hands and balls (Of lighting). "What?" he asked, absolutely confused.
"No. We're not going to fight."
"What?" he sputtered, "What, then, why, what do you want to do?"
Raven smirked, "I want to go fishing,"
"Um," Control Freak was at a loss, and scratched his head, trying to think of something to do or say. Raven on the other hand was completely in control, and walked forward slowly.
"I want to go fishing, and I want to go home. Now." she stopped, staring straight into the other's face. Control Freak's eyes were wide, and he stuttered, "Um," Raven extended a hand and commanded, "The remote please,"
Cyborg watched from the ground, vision clearing enough to see the exchange. What was up with Raven lately? Beast Boy was nearby, snoring still. Cyborg reached over to him and pulled the stunned greenling over to him. Cyborg rolled him over and reached into his pouch, wondering if BB realized that all of these clothes came from animals. Success!
Cyborg pulled out a tiny slingshot, and a handful of pellets. Taking aim he sent one flying...
Right to the center of Control Freak's stunned face. It hit his nose with a sharp thwack, and he let out a yelp and covered his head, retreating behind his throne.
Cyborg gave a thumbs up to Raven, who returned the gesture. She approached the throne, and from behind came a newly purposeful Control Freak.
Raven extended her hand once again, "Remote?"
"No," he replied, like a belligerent toddler. He pouted, "If you won't fight I'll keep you here until you're mad enough to fight."
"Are you that desperate for friends man?" Cyborg called out, lifting a drooling Beast Boy over his shoulder.
Control Freak guffawed, "No! I have plenty of friends!"
"Okay, name one!"
"Jerry, and you wouldn't know him, he... lives in Canada..."
Raven gritted her teeth, her patience was wearing out. "May I have the remote?"
Control Freak smirked, "Make me."
"You asked for it," she said resignedly, and reached through the dimensions to distant perdition. Power coursed through her, and instead of recycling the excess, she let it pool, and her skin darkened, eyes split into four, and cape fluttered with no wind.
She made sure her teeth were pointed before she smiled down at the now shorter Control Freak, "I hunger!"
The geek's jaw dropped and he stared upwards. "That... is the coolest thing... ever..." he whispered in awe.
Raven sighed and lifted an energy tendril, bringing it down on his head. Control Freak went cross eyed and toppled over, and Raven shrank back to her normal size. She shuddered as she expelled the last of the energy, and knelt beside the idiot.
The remote was easily accessible, so she didn't have to do any digging, thank god. She pulled out the black rectangle, noting the weird face on the front, like some kind of cat silhouette. Raven then tossed it to Cyborg, who was ready to catch it.
But the remote never reached him, as in mid air it vanished into a blinding ball of light. Both stared flabbergast at the expanding ring as it settled to the ground, and like a coin flipping Robin and Starfire emerged, dressed in their uniforms.
"There they are, our friends!" Starfire waved ecstatically, returned meekly by Raven. Robin on the other hand looked about, taking in their surroundings. "C'mon, we don't know how long the portal will stay open," he paused, noticing a certain something that was missing, "Where is the remote?"
Beast Boy came around just then, and looked back groggily from Cy's girl shoulder. He didn't appear in the least concerned that his butt was facing everyone like a preening Peacock. What did concern him was the blinking coming from the base of the portal ring.
"Shit," he mumbled, realising the blinking was the remote, rumbling even as it orbited the two heroes. Robin looked down, saw the problem, and yelled "Star!"
Just then the portal seemed to explode, lighting flashing and cracking and doing explosive stuff. everything vanished, the whole room, as if it had never been.
Moments later, a familiar tinkling sounded in the dark as Navi the fairy arrived. She looked about the odd crater, deciding that maybe the green boy had told her the truth.
