Epilogue: You're a Wizard Marvin
The cavernous chamber was dark as pitch, the only light filtering in from boarded windows far above. It was cold and rank of dust and pigeons, underplayed with the scent of a long quenched fire.
A pair of footsteps broke the endless quiet, a steady tapping of heeled shoe on marble, unwelcome in the long dead church.
In the dark, figures stirred, and a giant form stood, silencing all. It walked silently through the dark, its silhouette only barely visible in the shadow. It reached its destination and sat, form now surrounded by the twisted frame of a broken throne.
The footsteps began again, slowly, fearfully, and came to a halt. The owner was small in the huge space, for once his great pride held in check in the presence of these beings.
The great shadows surrounded him, making an arch from the fallen throne, silhouettes that no amount of light could ever reveal. They watched him in silence, no breath, no voice, no shifting or any sign of life, only palpable malice.
The man stood as straight as he dared, and inclined his head to the crowd. A breeze touched the ancient window above, and a board shifted, sending a small shaft of light down upon the figure.
Marvin Macklemore squinted, but didn't move, and the figure before him leaned forward, waiting.
"I have come for what you promised me," the aged man's voice cracked, but he didn't clear his throat.
In the infinite blackness, a spark of light, a glint off of sharp fangs and a maw opened. Marvin felt his heart seize in his chest, but he stood still.
There was another glint, eyes, cold and unforgiving, dead. They're brilliant blue stare pierced Marvin's soul, and with a gasp he collapsed, falling to his knees.
The figure stood from its throne, and Marvin prepared to beg.
Another glint shone, a clatter, and into the small circle of light rolled a magician's wand, followed by a small green medallion. It glimmered in the light, and looked like jade, save for the swirling of mist within.
Marvin reached out tentatively and touched the medallion, and felt his spirit flinch.
Looking up, he saw those cold blue eyes, and below, a wide, wicked grin.
