AN: Okay, I wrote up a list of my headcanon Victors of the Hunger Games, check it out if your interested its pre Katniss. Also, the chapter is going very Au from Mockingjay, I'm messing with the time because the rebellion/war didn't last for very long heck in Harry Potter the second wizarding war it lasted from order of phoenix to deathly hallows. My Katniss is pregnant so I'm skipping majority of her pregnancy since she can't be the Mockingjay knocked up lol. So in the months baby Odair are cooking both sides of the war are scheming, plotting, but not activally fighting one another. Dean and Annie are still being held hostage though. Anyways, hope you enjoy the chapter!
Chapter Twenty: Resurrection of District 13
The Rebellion
It had been four months since the bombing of District 12, fours months since Katniss fired her arrow destroying the Quarter Quell arena. Four months since Annie and Dean have been taken hostage. Four months since Katniss had discovered the secret rebellion brewing in District 13, were she was suppose to be the symbol. Katniss is six months pregnant with twins which was a shock to everybody. Finnick gave his first smile in months when he learned he was having both a son and daughter, in that moment he forgot his dispair over Annie's capture.
"You can't keep doing this, Momma Kat." Sia said worriedly frowning at her older sister.
"Doing what, little butterfly?" Katniss asked blankly.
"Freesia means not letting us in. We're not little girls anymore, Katniss." Prim said pointedly.
Making Katniss study her little sisters they both had grown so much, Sia was now the same age as Katniss was when she won her third hunger games and Prim was now fourteen and beginning to develop into a young woman. Her little monkey was quiet, starring at her in concern, he too had grown. Tel was the spitting image of their father, and he had less of their mother than even Katniss. Telstar was twelve now, he would have been getting ready for his first reaping soon.
"It's probably a good thing that the rebellion happened when it did because I wouldn't have been able to volunteer for Tel." Katniss said changing the subject.
"Duke would have volunteered."
"Rory was going to volunteer."
Prim and Sia glared at each other, getting ready to defend their respective boyfriends.
"Please, Primrose. Duke's older and his brother actually won the games! He would be a better volunteer then little Rory!" Sia said stubbornly.
"Don't call him little! He and Duke are the same height and only two years apart! Plus, Rory has had training from Gale and Katniss. He would have won and been the better choice to take Telstar's place." Primrose said just as stubborn.
"You two are crazy. I wouldn't have needed either of your loser boyfriends to volunteer for me. I would win at twelve just like, Momma Kat." Tel said arrogantly, smirking at his older sisters glares they sent his way for insulting their precious boyfriends. He sounded so much like Finnick in that moment, that Katniss worried about her Fish Boy's influence on her little monkey.
"Sure, twerp. Why don't you and little Miss. Perfect scram, go see if mother dearest needs help. Katniss and I need to talk alone." Sia barked at her younger siblings, much to their annoyance.
"Don't tell me what to do, Freesia. You're not Katniss or mom. Also stop calling mom that, she's our mother and she deserves our respect. Only reason, we're going is because that's were we are scheduled to be." Prim said uncharacteristically snobbish, earning a scoff and eye roll from Sia.
Katniss couldn't help notice the older they got, the more different and distant Freesia & Primrose got with one another. Sia was the only one able to get under Prim's skin and these days Sia was sullen and annoyed with everyone but Katniss, Finnick, Greasy Sae, and her boyfriend Duke. Prim and Tel were still close, bonding even more over healing, it seemed the only thing Telstar inherited from their mother was being a natural healer.
"Promise me something, Katniss?" Sia said seriously, taking her sister by surprise.
"Anything." Katniss agreed without a thought.
"If the war takes a turn for the worse and you lose someone you care about, promise me you won't lose yourself like our mother did over father dying. You're stronger than her, you're the better person and you will be hell of a better mother than she ever was. In some ways you already are, Momma Kat. I have to confess I'm already jealous of your children, they get to have you as their birth mother, while I only got you as a mother figure for seven years before they steal you from me. I'm such a horrible aunt at least they will have perfect Primrose to make up for me." Sia said ashamedly, fighting tears.
"Oh, little butterfly. I promise." Katniss said her voice breaking, pulling her sister in a hug.
"You also need to forgive, the drunk and the pretty boy. They care about you and you're having Odair's baby." Sia added through her tears.
"Now, you're just pushing it." Katniss said playfully getting a small rare giggle from Freesia.
Katniss found Finnick, playing nervously with a piece of rope. Finnick gave her a small smile staring in awe at her round belly.
"How are you, the mini me, and the mini hell kat doing?" Finnick asked softly.
"Good as can be. They're kicking up a storm. Do you wanna feel?" Katnisss offered meaningfully, Finnick knew this was his Hell Kat's way of forgiving him for keeping her in the dark about the rebellion.
"Wow, they're strong little things, just like their mother." Finnick beamed at her lovingly. Katniss smiled at him before leaning to give Finnick a kiss, the first they ever shared while in District 13.
"I missed that." Finnick smirked at her turning up his charm before he remembered Annie, and then he felt guilty.
Katniss knew what caused the change in his behavior.
"I don't think they are physically hurting her, Finn. I think they are more focused on Dean since he's closer to me. Dean would be their main target, they wanna hurt me not you and harming Dean will hurt me and he is probably protecting her. He loves her more than you do, Dean will keep Annie safe until we can get them back." Katniss said truthfully, that seemed to calm Finnick down.
"You know, I had a little sister, her name was Marna. Marnie and Annie were best friends they were practically inseparable. The year before I was reaped my twelve year old sister was reaped before me, but she didn't make it. No one volunteered for her or me because we are Victor's kids, so is Annie. My mother won her games, she's still alive she never was the same after Marnie's death. Annie's father won his game, but he had an 'fishing accident' when we were kids. Annie is home to me, she's sweet, kind, and innocent. She's too good to be used by Snow. You know in another life, I think she would have creeped up on me slowly. If I hadn't met you when I did because you didn't creep you smacked me right in my soul, in my heart. You contaminated me with your fire and your will to survive. So fierce, brave, and selfless. I was goner as soon as I saw the spark in your eyes." Finnick unloaded on her leaving her momentarily speechless.
"I'm glad I hit you that hard then, you've been anchoring me keeping me afloat for a while. I meant it when I said we will get them back, Finn." Katniss said smiling lovingly at him.
"Thanks, Kat. I hope you're right. So, what are we going to name our love children? I think Finn Jr and Kat Jr. have a nice ring don't you?" Finnick winked at her, she laughed lightly at him.
" I want to honor Rue and Foxface, so their middles names will be Rue and Ripley, which was Foxface's last name. I don't think this world can handle another Katniss and Finnick." Katniss smirked at Finnick's pout.
"I suppose you're right." Finnick grumbled unhappily.
"The Everdeen tradition is to name our children after flowers. So, I'm thinking Leonotis for the boy the leonotis flower is also known as lion's ear, which I thought you might appreciate with all your Kat jokes." Katniss said smiling as she saw him think over the name.
"Not to bad, I'll call him Leo for short. Its fitting, Momma Kat." Finnick smirked at her eye roll.
"Honeysuckle is also known as Lonicera, hopefully naming her something sweet she'll be more like Prim and Rue than me & Sia." Katniss explained to an amused Finnick.
"Little Leo and little Loni Odair, I can live with that. But next time I get to pick the names, the ones you picked are ridiculously long." Finnick teased her.
"There's not going to be a next time, I'm done. I'm never having anymore kids, Fish Boy." Katniss scoffed.
"How many times do I have to tell you. Never say never, Hell Kat." Finnick chuckled.
Katniss spotted Haymitch, he looked awful, sobriety hadn't been kind to her old mentor.
"Well, I'll be damned. Nice to finally see you out of your room. You're looking fat there, Sweetheart." Haymitch smirked, eying her very pregnant belly with amusement.
"You're looking ancient there, Sugar." Katniss scowled at the older man.
"At least least I don't look like a whale, Sweetheart." Haymitch chuckled at her hateful glare.
"Why hadn't you warned me or Dean?" Katniss asked cutting their bullshit.
"You were being watched to closely and the boy is an idiot, still don't know why you saved him, Sweetheart." Haymitch grunted bluntly.
"You guys couldn't have thought of an escape plan for him and Annie?" Katniss asked spitefully.
"We didn't anticipate Snow having the peacekeepers take them. That was our mistake, I should have realized the bastard was going to do that. They aren't the only ones Snow has, he has Effie too." Haymitch sighed miserably.
Katniss doesn't know which shocked her more the fact Effie, a Capitol citizen was taken hostage or that Haymitch sounded heartbroken at the escort's captivity.
"You and Effie? How? When? Why?" Katniss sputtered not being able to wrap her mind at the idea of her escort and her mentor had been together. Haymitch chuckled at her humorlessly.
"Yes, me and Darling. I think you know the how being knocked up. On and off for years, I didn't realize how much she meant till she was taken and I was forced to be stone cold sober. Now she'll never know I thought of her more then a drunken fling." Haymitch said dishearteningly.
"We'll get them all back, Sugar. I won't let Snow win, Haymitch." Katniss said fiercely, her gray eyes blazing with an inner fire.
"Careful there, Sweetheart. You're starting to sound like their Mockingjay. Speaking of that Gabe boy wants to take you to see the ruins of District 12 if you want. Granted you'll have to pry Jo off the poor boy, first." Haymitch smirked at her stunned expression.
"First, you and Effie. Now, Johanna and Gale? What exactly have I missed?" Katniss asked shell shocked.
"Beetee and Wiress finally got together after decades of denying each other. It took the rebellion to happen to get their shit together." Haymitch said shaking his head leaving Katniss to her thoughts.
Katniss felt a bit better at hearing that, she wasn't surprised at the pairing of the two smartest people she knows being together. In fact, Katniss had thought they were married already.
Katniss grabbed her father's hunting jacket, his portrait, the book of plants, Sia's book of recipes, Prim's awful cat Buttercup, and Tel's stuffed monkey, Prim made him out of one of Katniss's old shirts. Primrose made it for Tel when he wasn't allowed to go on the Victory Tours anymore and he was missing Katniss.
Katniss was shook up by the sight of that awful rose Snow left for her.
Gale chuckled at the sight of the disgruntled angry cat in her gamebag, before ushering her back on the District 13 hovercraft.
When they got back, Katniss dumped her gamebag unceremoniously onto the table. Her mother hugged her father's portrait and took the book on plants from Katniss.
Sia thanked her sister for retrieving the book of recipes, it had butterflies on the cover handdrawn by Duke and Dean, and the recipes were a collection of Sia's, Greasy Sae's and Peeta's dad. It was the only thing left of the Mellarks, since Peeta's family died in the bombing. Prim was the most emotional at seeing the stupid cat alive, she was crying and cooing at Buttercup.
Tel wasn't even that embarrassed when he hollered in excitement at the sight of his stuff animal. He might be a twelve year old boy but that stuffed monkey smelled like his Momma Kat made by Primrose it meant too much to him to care about his growing manly pride.
The trip to the ruins of District 12 was worth it seeing her family's happiness, it made the depressing room feel a little bit like home.
All of District 13 and what remained of District 12 watched captivated and horrified by Caesar's interview with Dean.
"Oh my poor baby." Mrs. Rivers muttered crying, Hazel comforted her sister. The Rivers and the Hawthornes all looked distraught at the sickly look of Dean.
"What did those bastard's do to him?!" Duke yelled angrily, Sia comforted her boyfriend who was rightfully upset at his older brother's capture and obvious torture. Katniss was taken back by despite how much he looks like a younger Dean, his temper and personality was much more like his older cousins, Gale.
"Where's Annie? What do you think it means they didn't show her? Do you think they killed her?" Finnick asked panicking. Katniss shook her head no she still believed Annie was alive.
"Let's get out of here." Katniss suggested, Finnick looked at her relieved.
Coin ordered them to stay, Boggs tried to stop Katniss, who twisted the offending arm on her shoulder and threw him down before taking off.
Finnick quickly caught up with her.
"You know you waddle very fast for a pregnant woman, Hell Kat." Finnick huffed at her playfully, his nose a little bloody from Biggs cheap shot.
"For that comment you deserve that bloody nose, Fish Boy." Katniss glared at him insulted, she does not waddle. Finnick just winked and chuckled at her ire.
"Don't know why they are so high and mighty when they stayed here safe for seventy-five years, while the rest of us was punished with the Hunger Games. It took them a while to help the other districts." Katniss huffed angrily.
"To be fair they first had to rebuild and recover from the bombing. Then they had to plan and wait for a spark. They had to wait for you, you're the spark Katniss you have been for years. You made everyone fall in love with your fire, you gave them hope and you inspired them to have the courage to rebel. You're the Mockingjay, Katniss." Finnick said passionately.
Katniss studied him for a moment, her face impassive, before sighing in realization and exhaustion.
"I'll do it I'll be the Mockingjay." Katniss declared, Finnick smiled proudly at her.
Katniss made her way to the Command room to meet with Coin and makes her demands if they want her to be the Mockingjay. Gale, Finnick, Johanna, Wiress, Beetee, and Haymitch were there too along with Coin's people.
After Katniss demanded that they should be allowed to keep Buttercup, she made her demand that her and Gale should be allowed to hunt.
"Should you even be hunting in you condition?" Plutarch asked doubtful, he was glared fiercely by Katniss, and he got real quiet after that.
"Fine, two hours will be deducted from your training times, you two will wear communication units and tracker anklets. What's next?" Coin asked.
"The rescue of Victors Dean Rivers, Annie Cresta, and Escort Effie Trinket will be planned and implemented. They will be pardoned, no form of punishment will be inflicted." Katniss said tensely.
"No" Coin said flatly.
"Yes, they'll be granted immunity! It's not their fault Snow abducted them to hold hostage. Who knows what the Capitol's doing to them? You will personally pardoned them in front of the entire population of District 13 and the remainder of 12. Noon today, it will be recorded for future generations. You will hold yourself and your government responsible for their safety or you'll find yourself another Mockingjay!" Katniss said fiercely.
"That's her! Right there! With the costume, gunfire in the background, just a hint of smoke." Fulvia whispers to Plutarch.
"Yes, that's what we want." Plutarch said satisfied.
"Good job, Sweetheart." Haymitch smirks proudly. Johanna nods in approval. Wiress and Beetee gives her looks of respect. Finnick just looks at her in awe and adoration.
"Fine, you better preform. Also you must agree to inducing your labor, you're no good to me heavily pregnant." Coin said passively.
"What?!" Finnick yelled in disgust.
"Is it safe?" Katniss asked not ruling it out if it meant she can rescue the ones she cares about.
"Yes, Katniss. We have Capitol doctors here they're very good at what they do. Some of them even worked on you post Games. You're the one who caused them to rebel." Plutarch explained to a surprised Katniss.
"Okay I agree. My last request is, I get to kill Snow." Katniss finished quickly.
"When the time comes, I'll flip you for it." Coin smiled darkly.
"Fine, you have yourself a Mockingjay." Katniss said decidedly.
After being shown Cinna's thought out beautiful Mockingjay designs , and putting her prep team under her mother's care to heal. Katniss and Gale decided to do some hunting, they got into a disagreement about her prep team and the fact she shouldn't be hunting. Katniss was annoyed by the time the dropped off the game at the kitchen with Greasy Sae and Sia. Coin made her announcement filling Katniss with dread.
Two months later tiny but strong and heathly Lonicera Rue Odair and Leonotis Ripley Odair were born four pounds each.
"They look like you, Katniss." Prim said in awe starring at her gorgeous niece and nephew.
"Usually twins always take after the mother." Alana Everdeen said tearily, smiling at her grandchildren.
"They're very lucky, they got good genes. With you two your children were bound to be breathtaking." Sia said beaming at her older sister.
"I don't see it, they look like squishy rats to me. Are you sure their yours, Momma Kat?" Telstar asked sullenly not liking he would have to share Katniss with his infant niece and nephew.
Haymitch chuckled at the reproachful looks the kid was getting.
"No children of mine are rats. They are to good looking for that, just like they're father." Finnick said winking at Katniss's look of exasperation.
"You did good work Brainless and Fish Brains. Hopefully they get their intelligence from Aunt Johanna, they're going to need it. We'll leave you two idiots to coo at your offspring alone." Johanna said while forcefully dragging the moody silent Gale out of the room. Everyone followed leaving the new parents alone with their newborn twins.
"I can already tell my little lion is going to be as pushy as you. He doesn't seem to understand ladies go first, looks like my little bumblebee is the youngest." Katniss said starring lovingly at her children's faces.
"Doesn't make him pushy, he just wanted to be the protective older brother." Finnick pointed out with a huge grin. Katniss smiled back at him, before giving him a kiss.
Finnick sighed sadly, "Annie would adore them."
"We'll get them back, Finn. Now that I'm no longer pregnant, I'll be the Mockingjay and Coin will meet my demands. Leo and Loni will meet their Aunt Annie, Uncle Dean, and Aunt Effie." Katniss said softly determined.
"That's my Hell Kat" Finnick smirked at her, amazed by the mother of his children.
"Don't you flirt with me, Fish Boy. I just got cut open to deliver your children, part of me wants to castrate you." Katniss sassed fiercely, Finnick hoped that was just the hormones talking.
