I don't own Divergent, Veronica Roth does!
Al didn't pay attention to me today. He didn't show up for breakfast, in homeroom he sat with Peter, Molly and Drew; I want my friend back.
Tobias and I take the quiet route back to dorms after dinner, everyone's either still eating or they are in their rooms, not behind the science block, except for Peter, Molly and Drew.
"Oh no! " Peter shouts, "Drew, go tell Al his girl is hanging out with Four; he'll be heartbroken."
"I have no idea what you're talking about," I reply coolly.
"Are you sure about that, Tris? I heard something about you and Al?" he taunts. Tobias looks over at me in shock.
"What? You're in a thing with Al?" He looks panicked.
"Is someone getting protective there, Four? Aw, look, stiff, you've got all the guys after you."
"Stiff? What's that supposed to mean?" I challenge.
"On you're first day here you dressed like you were in Abnegation, we all called you Stiff like you're one of them. "
"Charming-"
"-You're in a thing with Al?" Tobias asks again, this time more persistent.
"No! I'm not! " I walk up to Peter, "Where the hell did you learn about Al liking me?"
"Don't be so annoyed, Stiff. Al told us this morning, he told us everything about how you were hanging out last night and-"
"-You were on a date with Al?" Tobias still seems panicked.
"No, I wasn't. Peter finish the story."
"What? The story you didn't want to tell in the first place? You now want me to finish it?"
"Peter, I swear to God, I'll deck you right here."
"You wouldn't be able to." He's right, but I would most definitely give it a good shot. "and then when he confessed his feelings for you, you tore his heart out like the little bitch you are."
"I did no such thing," I hiss at him.
"Well, Al told us you were completely arrogant about it, you said that you would rather Date Four of Uriah. I mean that's sinking low, Uriah?"
"Uriah's one of my best friends, shut up. " I look over at Tobias, who is still uncertain about everything he's just heard in the past few moments.
"That's a sad statement. The Stiff's best friends with Uriah, Four and all that lot. " he smirks in a satisfied way, he knows he's annoying me.
"Peter take that back now. "
"Or what? You'll punch me?" he says rather condescendingly. As if on command, I punched him square on, he barely moves, obviously he wasn't hurt as much as I was. "That all you got, Stiff?" he jeers as he hits me around the face, onto the floor. I try to get up, but then he hits me again. As my vision becomes black, I hear Tobias' voice and another thud on the floor.
I wake up in my room with Tobias at my feet and Christina, Will and Uriah on the bed opposite.
"What happened?" I moan, unable to recall why I'm here and why everyone is crowding around me.
"You really can't remember?" Tobias seems almost shocked.
"No," I attempt to sit up despite my head pounding.
"Well, lets just say that Peter, " Tobias pulls me close and wraps his arm around me, "he knocked you down," he holds me close keeping me upright, Will and Christina take no notice.
"Shit, he was trash talking people wasn't he?" I slur.
"Yeah, and you thought that you should get involved. Look how well that turned out. " Uri chimes.
"Shut up, I was defending your honor," I rest my head on Tobias' shoulder, currently not caring if Chris or Will guess about us.
"Thanks, but I think Four did a better job."
"What did you do to him?" I ask, suddenly worried.
"Nothing too bad, I mean I only decked him like you were threatening," he shrugs.
"Four, he's in the infirmary," Chris points out.
"Well, he's just being a wimp, I mean first he knocked Tris out," he gives me a gentle squeeze, "now he's playing this act up so I get in trouble."
"And you don't care?" I ask.
"Not really, I was just standing up for you," he says as he nuzzles his face in my hair. Okay, this is the limit, we need to make this less obvious, Will or Chris might catch on.
"Come any closer to me and I'll beat you like Peter," I threaten, immediately he realises there are people in the room who don't know about us yet.
"Because it went so well last time." he says as I pull away. I sit facing him, no longer next to him.
"I hate you."
"That's not a nice thing to say to me, after all I've done for you today. Who knows, you might need me to rescue you again some time soon."
"I doubt that, I'll be ready next time." I through my fists up.
"Maybe you might need some training first," he pushes my fists down, " I could always teach you?"
"We've been over this before, this isn't the stupidest thing you've said. I think I'll take you up on that offer." Tobias lets slip a small smile as I say this.
"Finally. But you might want to recover for a day or so before you learn to fight," he suggests.
"You're right. Jesus what was that floor made of?" I rub my still throbbing head.
"Peter's got a hard punch, you learn that the hard way," Will comments.
"You've been in a fight with him?"
"Who hasn't seriously though, you must be the last person in the school." We all laugh, but the sad thing is it's true. Peter goes around hurting all these people and to gain what? Popularity? Because if so, that's not happening anytime soon.
"Why though?" I ask.
"I have no idea. Dauntless are meant to be brave, sporty, good people. God knows how he's here, he's a coward, bastard," Will moans, " he's not even on the sports team. "
"I swear, I'll get revenge one day. You can all watch me." I mutter.
"Only fight when you have to," Tobias tilts my chin up to face him, " for the heck of it is something that Peter would do; you're better than him aren't you?"
"Yeah, but I'm not sure by how much."
