"So I'm supposed to believe that you and Scott just…happened to be in the woods." Stiles father asks him.
Stiles thinks this all feels incredibly familiar, the lying to his father's face part, not the reprimands it comes with.
"Derek was with us," Stiles reminds his father.
The Sheriff sighs, running a hand down his face, "And since when did you start hanging out with Derek Hale?"
"Since he started tutoring Scott."
"And you can't tutor Scott because?"
"Because he gets annoying when I correct him more than usual."
John Stilinski sighs again, looking at his son who is seated on the bench across from his desk. The four men had worked out their story in the woods; an animal broke into the Lahey house and Isaac ran into the woods where he got lost.
Speaking of Isaac, the curly haired man is in the hospital right now getting checked out with Melissa.
Of course, his father doesn't believe him. Has every right not to, but Stiles is an expert at lying at this point. He doesn't want to, but he and his mother had agreed that John shouldn't be in on Supernatural beings. Well, Claudia demanded and Stiles had to agree.
How could he not when he was just happy to have his mother back in his life.
He wants nothing more than to drag Scott in here and have him provide evidence when Stiles divulges his secret. But he can't because it's not just his secret.
"Alright, but you have to realize how suspicious that is."
"Yeah, Dad. I know. I'm sorry it sounds so suspicious, I'm not trying."
John sighs, buying Stiles' act and the younger man feels like shit, "I know you're not, kiddo." John ushers him out the door.
John wraps his arm around Stiles really quickly in a brief hug before making his way over to Deputy Parish – he wasn't here this early, that's weird – and leaving Stiles to face his mother.
Talia is standing off in a corner talking to Scott and Derek, both of whom look like their tails would be between their legs if they had them, and looking torn between proud and pissed.
Claudia just looks furious.
"I'm not sorry I went looking for Isaac," Stiles tells her, tilting his chin upwards.
"I'm not mad that you went looking for Isaac. I'm not mad that you went looking for Isaac while there was an Alpha on the loose. You put Scott and Derek in jeopardy just so you could save someone you don't know! Simply because you knew someone who looked like him in yours!" Claudia tells him, talking in Fay so no one knows what they're talking about.
"I -" Stiles starts in English, but decides that Fay would be better in public, just in case, "I didn't go looking for Isaac because I knew him in my world! I went looking for him because it's what I do!"
"No, it's what you did! There is a large difference, Stiles. In this world, your friend isn't the Alpha. This isn't your territory to protect!"
"That's not what this is about! I don't care that Derek's not an Alpha! I don't care that this Isaac looks just like my Isaac! I went looking for him because he needed my help! That's what you always taught me to do! To look out for others when they need help!"
"Listen to me, Szczepan, and listen well. These people here, they aren't your friends. Not anymore. You can't keep confusing the two!"
"I'm not!" Stiles shouts, drawing attention to them. "I know the difference! I know the difference every day! And if we're going by that logic? You're not my mother!"
His mother seems to realize what she's said and mutters an apology.
"I'm sorry, Stiles." She sighs, talking in English again.
"Me, too."
She switches back to Fay seamlessly, "I know you want to help people. And I am so proud of you for finding Isaac. But you have to remember, I left this life so you wouldn't have to live through this!"
"Even if you weren't in this life anymore, mom, I am. I'm always going to be. It's part of who I am. I wouldn't change it for the world."
Claudia looks incredibly sad, but she nods.
Then John comes over with Talia and the boys in tow.
"You two alright?"
"Yeah," Stiles murmurs.
"I contacted Isaac's next of kin, but they're not going to come down and claim him. With his father dead and his mother missing for years now, the kids' only option is foster care."
"I can ask my mom to take care of him." Scott volunteers.
"That's not the same, Scott." The Sheriff tell him.
"Why isn't it?" Talia counters, "If Melissa is willing to take care of Isaac, wouldn't that be better than the foster system? Of course, this is provided that Melissa actually agrees to care for Isaac. Whether it's adoption or simply taking care of him until he's eighteen."
The Sheriff sighs, looking weary.
"Alright. I have to go down to the hospital to talk to Isaac anyway. I can talk to Melissa while I'm there anyway. You guys heading home?" He aims the question at Stiles and Claudia.
"Yes." Claudia and Talia announce at the same time.
"Alrighty then." John smiles and leave.
"So how grounded do you think I'll be?" Scott asks Stiles.
Stiles inhales sharply, "Oh, definitely no TV."
Scott shrugs, not that upset.
Talia and Claudia shuffle off to the side to talk amongst themselves, leaving Stiles, Scott, and Derek alone together.
"She sounded pretty mad."
Stiles shrugs and Scott instantly gets the hint to drop the subject.
"What do you think's going to happen to Isaac now? He's obviously taken the bite. He's going to need teaching."
"You and Stiles can teach him." Scott offers like it's not a terrifying idea for Stiles.
Which it is.
