What the hell happened?!" Missy hissed out when she realized that Amy had passed out.

Gabe was sitting with her still cradled awkwardly in his arms just staring at her face in shock and bewilderment. He looked at the long appendages attached to her back and had to open and close his mouth a few times before he could even think of answering her.

"I-I don't know," he whispered brokenly, "I lost track of her at some point in the restaurant. The alarm went off and I was trying to find her when I hear her calling for me. When I got to her, she was complaining about being burned from the inside…." He broke off as he looked up at Missy. "It's her inheritance; all of this."

"Well isn't there something you could have done to help her?" asked Jazz askance at seeing her friend passed out and still grimacing in pain, even while she was unconscious.

Gabe shook his head sadly, "Unfortunately no. It has to run its course, we couldn't have done anything for her at this point; except, maybe, try to keep her as comfortable as possible."

"Gabriel is right, there's nothing to do when a nephilim's powers have finally awoken. You can't stop it, it's only a matter of time from there on out. Hers happened really quickly though. Okay, we have to get these wings taken care of and quickly, the more we wait the more damage is done!" Missy barked out as she began to take directive. Her and Gabe worked in tandem slowly maneuvering Amy around until she was lying on her stomach her wings laying haphazardly on top of her.

Grabbing some gloves that Gabe magicked up, both of them started to slowly but surely pull the wings so that they were laying spread eagled on either side of Amy's body fully stretched out to their full potential.

You couldn't really make out the colour of the wings since there appeared to be an acidic coating encasing the length of them. It looked like thick, gelatinous liquid hardening into a thick membrane. Jazz could see, smell, and hear the slight hissing of the fluid. She could see the vapor pouring off of the wings and Amy wincing and murmuring fitfully into the pillow below her face. She winced in sympathy at the pain that seemed to be consuming her friend.

"Jazz snap out of it and get the fuck over here, I need your help!" Missy barked from the left hand side of Amy. She was crouching just above one of her wings and trying to maintain a good grip on the otherwise slippery wing.

Hesitantly Jazz walked over to her and leaned down to take a better look. She winced as she saw the acid steaming away from the wings, and held the back of her hand against her mouth. Missy looked at her and sighed in frustration.

"Look you need to man up and help me out here," she told her gently yet firmly, "I know this must be hard for you right now to see her like this, and a shock with this whole wing shit, but I need for you to pull your ass in gear. The longer this acid keeps on the wings, the harder it will be to remove it and the more damage will be done to the actual structure of the wing itself. We need to get as much as we can off, before that happens, and we have to start by breaking the protective casing that's surrounding them right now. And where the hell is Lance?! LANCE?!"

"Okay I'm here, shit," he broke off as he stared at the blood, acid and mucus surrounding Amy who was lying still unconscious on the floor, "The hell are we supposed to do?"

Missy grabbed some towels and shoved some into Jazz's hands. "Go over there with Gabe and help him out on that side. Follow all of his instructions to the dot and hurry! Did you bring the water?"

"Um yeah it's right here," he said hesitantly.

"Good, just put it down and start over there," Missy barked at him as she lead Jazz back to the wing, "Okay take some towels and start to use them to grab as much of the acid off as you can. Oh and here," she grabbed a tool from beside her and pushed it at Jazz.

Taking it quickly before it could fall Jazz stared in bewilderment at what was sitting in her hands. "What the hell am I supposed to do with a chisel and a mallet?!"

Missy merely stared at her in frustration as she kept on wiping. "Once we get some of this outer layer off, there will be a harder layer below that. We're going to need the tools to break through that layer. It's too risky to use magic, and we can't use brute force, otherwise we risk maiming the wing for good. A chisel and mallet is the only thing that will be subtle enough to get through it." She said all this as she panted through the exhilarating work; heaving her shoulders and her whole body into the work. "Once we make a hole we can start peeling off the shell in strips and from there we use the hot water to help clean out the feathers. But Jazz I really need you to hurry; if we don't catch this in good time then that casing will harden completely and we won't be able to remove it. If you think she's in pain now … well let's just say we don't want that to be the end of this story."

Nodding her head Jazz grabbed a handful of towels and began following Missy's lead. She rubbed to the point of almost being vicious but didn't stop. Missy had assured her that Amy wouldn't feel this part of the procedure. Looking over, she saw Gabriel and Lance hard at work on the other wing; quickly discarding towels when they had outdone their use. Returning her attention to the task at hand she bit her lip and kept rubbing.

They worked diligently along the whole wing, as much as they could possibly get to. Finally, Jazz felt the towel stop sliding against the membrane encasing of the wing. Frowning she took the towel away and noticed a gleaming cast almost glaring back at her in the light of the room. Looking up at Missy, she saw the blonde nod at her. Reaching over she picked up the chisel and mallet, and first watched how Missy placed it, with how much force she struck and so on.

Quickly following her lead Jazz began to chisel away at the hard shell; she could hear Gabe and Lance hard at work on the other side of the wing. Just when she was about to get through and she could see a small hole begin to be formed, Missy issued a startled exclamation. She looked up at her with wide eyes.

"What's wrong?!" asked Jazz in worry.

"Help me Jazz! Hurry! I got a good chunk of the hard shell out I need you to help me peel the rest of it off quickly!"

Jazz and Missy both grabbed separate sides of the shell and pulled as hard as they could in the opposite direction. Fairly quickly they were able to get the whole shell off of the wings and piled behind them in small little heaps. Blood, mucus and acid all oozed as one from the shells and created small piles of the thick liquid around them.

"This is so gross." Jazz muttered quietly to herself; grimacing as her poor friend whimpered beneath them.

"Okay get that bowl of hot water and those cloths; it should be cooled off enough now that the water won't produce any kind of real damage," Missy told her as she rung out a cloth, "We need to clean all the feathers and get this stuff off. Hurry she's not quite out of the woods yet."

Amy began crying and shouting in her unconscious state. She mumbled in undertones what sounded like for them to stop. Her body wracked with her sobs. Suddenly, a hand smacked Jazz lightly on the cheek and she turned her face to stare at Missy. The blonde was staring at her … was that worry in her eyes? Snapping out of it Jazz nodded and grabbed another wet cloth.

As they all worked quietly and tirelessly together, Missy whispered to her.

"I know this is tough for you to be watching your friend going through all this. This pain, and watching her suffer, but believe me, it'll be worse if we don't do this for her." Missy told her gently.

Jazz chuckled quietly as she peeled away some of the thick liquid from one of the feathers. "You know Missy you were never this gentle, even when I knew you, so don't feel bad for me now. We know that wasn't what you signed up for; so insult me I know it must be killing you not to. I'm just the lezbo with the crush on you right? Or I was, I guess I should say."

Missy sighed quietly as she rang out some more water and lightly propped the wing up so that she could get to the underside. "I didn't mean-"

"You mean you didn't mean to humiliate me in front of all those people? You didn't mean to make me feel like complete and utter worthless crap? Wow Missy then you must not have done your job properly because if I do say so myself you did a bang up job," Jazz snapped at her in a harsh whisper.

Missy bit her lip, "That was never my intention Jazz …" She whispered that quietly as she kept up the work.

Jazz looked up at her in confusion. However, before she could comment on what Missy had said, they heard a slight groan and Amy shuffled slightly below them. Gabe quickly leaped to her side, discarding his rag haphazardly behind him.

"Amy! Hey Aim, don't worry we gotcha, hey shhhh it's ok," he gently comforted her as he pet her hair down around her face as she slowly lifted it. "Just relax and don't make any sudden movements, ok?"

She frowned up at the trickster, "Gabe? What's?"

"Shhh I don't want you talking yet, alright? Just hang on," he magicked up some water and lightly placed the glass to her lips. Helping her swallow some down, he finally relaxed. "Don't worry Aim, it's going to be okay, I promise you."

Amy winced as she felt a heavy weight which seemed to be coming from her back and stretching along the length of the floor on either side of her. Frowning she opened her eyes, staring off to her right. Blinking her eyes, a few times, she waited for the blurry images to condense into a solid image. As soon as she saw what was stretched along her side she gave a small shriek and tried to sit bolt upright on the ground.

A hand rested on the small of her back and kept her body down, it was gentle yet firm. However, the wings on either side of her seemed to react to her distress and flapped up viscously. A cold wind kicked up in the living room and objects crashed to the floor around them. Amy could feel the muscles straining in her back as the wings moved, however, she felt as if she had no control over the actual movements of them.

A surprised cry was issued from her but before she could look Missy was kneeling in front of her, gripping her face gently yet firmly.

"Amy I need you to just calm down and try to relax. Listen to my voice and slow your heart. Shhh you're okay," Missy coaxed her gently.

Slowly Amy could feel her pulse slow and her breathing began to even out. Closing her eyes she gave a shaky nod of her head, and the wings on either side of her seemed to sense the calmness that she was exuding. They gently lowered again to the floor and Amy winced as she felt the pull of some muscles that she had never used before in her life.

Swallowing deeply she looked up at Missy, "What the hell happened?"

Groaning was heard on her left and she looked past Missy. The hand that was on the small of her back had lifted up and she shifted slightly for a better view. Jazz sat slumped on the floor, her short hair spiked up in a birds nest. Amy couldn't help the small smile that came from her lips.

"Umm you okay Jazz?" she asked her friend in bewilderment.

"Ugh no thanks to you," Jazz groaned in complaint. "You're big turkey wings there nearly knocked me a good one."

Amy snorted but now that she realized it, her left wing was slightly sore. Frowning she looked at it; it twitched on the ground but otherwise didn't do anything. She looked up at Missy who shrugged.

"You probably didn't notice that you hit her since you were a little frantic a few minutes ago," she told her in a way for an explanation. "Something you have to know Amy," she began as she sat cross legged in front of her, "is that you're wings are going to be very sensitive. They'll always be this way, even as you age with them, however, it will be worse right now for a few months to a few years. It's just because they're essentially new. In a way they're your baby wings."

Amy just shook her head in bafflement at this. "Missy I have freaking wings. Wings! That's not normal! I mean, what do I do with them? It's not like I can just walk down the street in them and expect everything to be fine!"

Missy nodded, "Don't worry Amy we'll teach you how to hide them and eventually you won't have to worry about that. They can be made invisible and pass through solid objects in that state so don't worry this won't become a huge problem. And something tells me since you're a quick case study it shouldn't take that long to teach you."

Amy nodded at this; suddenly, she realized that a cool breeze was wafting across her bare back. Her eyes widened in mortification until she felt a blanket, or a towel, draped across her back. Grabbing it she awkwardly secured it around her upper body, trying to work around the wings, however, they seemed like large blockades and she mumbled in frustration from her clumsy movements. Eventually she was securely wrapped and sitting up as straight as she could on the floor.

The wings still lay at her sides completely immobile. Now that they were starting to dry she could make out the dark red plumage that decorated both of them. It was interspersed with burgundy and different shades of red, with molten gold tips and blood red feathers running closer to where they joined at her back. She stared in awe at them. They may have just appeared, and she still wasn't quite used to their overbearing weight, however, she felt a certain connection to them, something that she couldn't quite explain. They were hers in a nutshell and they were one thing. Although she had lived her life without them, they still were a part of her, she just hadn't realized till now that she had had them.

Looking at Missy she croaked out the question she had wanted to ask.

"What the hell happened?"

Missy sighed and sat back on her heels. "My guess to be quite honest with you Amy is that when you touched the horn it jump started your transformation. Don't worry you won't start sprouting horns or anything," she quickly calmed her at seeing her wide eyes. "You'll go through other changes; however, physically this should be the only major one. This usually never happened to all nephilim. It had to be from a strong angel parentage in order for the offspring to develop wings of their own, as well as the angel grace merged with your soul has to be potent enough to handle the strain of the wings. Seems like your just one of those people, the rare few."

Swallowing nervously she asked, "So what were you guys doing as I was passed out?"

"We had to remove the hard casing and the acid that was surrounding your wings."

At Amy's confused expression she continued.

"See when a nephilim is first born it's virtually impossible to tell if they will ever develop wings in their lifetime. Usually only time can tell; but like I said earlier if the baby was born from a strong parentage the odds are good. Usually nephilim are already born with wings, they just stay hidden in the body until it is time, if ever, for them to be completely revealed. They stay hidden in your back; you don't even know that they are there. As they stay inside your body a protective layer of acid, mucus, as well as a type of calcification takes place that once expressed to the air immediately begins to harden. It does this to protect the wings. See inside the body the mucus and acid will protect it, however, once these liquids are introduced to the air they begin to wreak havoc on the thing that they were protecting. I know it's confusing and doesn't really make a shit ton of sense."

"What we were doing was getting the acid and mucus off your wings. With that done we gained access to the calcification that was already taking place underneath. It acts as a defense mechanism; see the body doesn't know at times that it isn't in danger, and since wings are the most sensitive part to an angel's anatomy, the body reacts to protect those extremities with a vengeance. It can work against us though, if were not quick enough the casing can harden to the point where we would need special tools to cut through and when it gets to that point it could kill the host. However, if you are quick enough that can all be avoided. Once through the protective shield we have to take off the protective layers underneath, it's a type of acid mixed with wing oil, in order to help preserve the feathers. When you get through all of those stages that is your finished project," she finished pointing at the wings still lying prone on the floor.

Looking at them again Amy could see the wings becoming fluffier as they dried and acclimated to room temperature. Slowly, she reached out a hand and smoothed over some of the feathers near the base. Shuddering she couldn't help the sharp jolt of pleasure that raced through her veins at the sensation. She tingled with the good feeling and couldn't help the large grin that spread across her face.

"Is that normal?" she asked Missy. "They just feel so … I don't know …"

"Sensitive?"

"Yeah," Amy remarked looking down at them again, and running another hand gently through the silky plumage.

"It is, don't worry with enough time the sensations will begin to even out," Missy told her. "Just take it easy with them, and try not to let anyone else touch them until you become used to them; usually nephilim who have wings develop fast, and strong, protective urges to their wings. You'll be no different."

Nodding Amy tried to figure out how to move them. Suddenly, without her even realizing she did it, one of the wings shot out and smashed a vase down to the floor. She froze at that with her eyes widening at the resounding crash that echoed in the room. The other four were silent as Amy fidgeted and slowly the wing drooped down to the floor, as if it had known that it had done wrong.

"Umm I think we should work on controlling them right now Missy." Gabe remarked in the quiet.

Missy nodded, "I do believe your right Loki."

Amy shivered as she stared at the two wings in amazement. She smiled as she gazed at them in awe and a sense of love emanating from her to them.
