"Bella!" Edward called out, watching her run into the forest after Paul. He followed close behind and stopped a few steps away. She looked around helplessly then faced him.
"You lied to me. Why did you lie to me?"
Edward took a step back. "He was in no state to see you. He was there but he left that part wasn't a lie."
She ran her hands through her hair. "I should have asked for him first. I-" She started to sway and Edward caught her.
"Its not your fault."
"Don't touch me." She yanked away from him and marched back towards her house.
Edward sighed. "You can talk to me about anything."
She kept walking and slammed the front door. She threw the pillows and after a second thought picked them back up. Charlie couldn't know of this.
She slowly but angrily went to her room and glanced at the open window. She thought for a moment and slammed it shut as well.
Edward shut his eyes and sighed. He made his way to the reservation and was met by Sam.
"What are you doing here?" Sam said slowly wondering about the treaty.
"I need to speak with Jacob."
He didn't sense Paul anywhere and looked back at Sam. "Please."
Jacob ran up and looked back towards Leah. "I'm a little busy."
"I need you to help, Bella."
"Things not working out between you two?" Jacob chuckled.
"It's Paul. I need you to talk to Paul."
"Why would I do that?"
"Her happiness is more important than anything."
Jacob snorted. " If that was true you would have left what they had alone and just settled for being her friend."
"You couldn't even do that, Jacob. I had to try."
Jacob shook his head. "She will figure it when the time comes and if its Paul then hooray, if its you then congrats." Leah ran up to them and smiled at Jacob.
"I have a good thing here, Ima enjoy it before its too late." He said throwing an arm over her. " Good luck with your problem."
Edward grabbed him and hesitantly dropped to his knees. Jacob and Sam stared in disbelief.
"Jacob please, you are the only one she might listen to at this point. "
Leah cackled, but Jacob sighed. "I'll stop by there and see what I can do."
Edward nodded and stood. "Thank you." He glanced at Sam who just nodded and backed up.
Edward vanished and Leah pushed away from Jacob. "Really, What you putting yourself back in the race?"
"That's not what I said!"
"It's what you want." Her voice cracked and she turned and ran into the woods. Jacob threw his hands up and Sam placed a hand on his shoulder.
"I've seen more heartbreaks in a few days than I've seen in years. Everyone needs a rest."
Jacob sighed. "Yea." He gave a small chuckle and started walking towards the road. "Starting tomorrow though!"
He ran up to Bellas house and let out a happy sigh, Charlie wasn't home. He threw a pebble at her window and after a moment she walked to the window. She rolled her eyes and walked away.
He jumped up on the tree and scaled his way to the top of her window. He gave her his best puppy dog look and she opened the window.
"What, Jacob?"
"Look I know I'm probably not your favorite person right now but let's talk, no games."
"You're one of my least favorite wolfs." She mumbled but moved back, he jumped in her room and looked at her.
"Wanna talk about it?"
"Does Paul wanna talk about it?" she answered quickly.
I'm not sure what Paul wants."
Her head dropped and she fell back on the bed. "I wish it was Paul, I wish it was Paul the whole time. I didn't want to hurt em."
"It was an outcome no one saw coming. Don't beat yourself up."
"I feel trapped, like the feelings I have don't matter, when I dream I see Edward but then he gets replaced with Paul. I-"
Jacob sat on the bed and sighed again. "How can I help?"
Bella sat up, "Really?"
He nodded. "Yea, I guess."
"Leah wouldn't mind?"
He shrugged. "She's mad at me anyway."
Bella opened her mouth, but Jacob just shook his head. She smiled and ran her fingers through her hair.
"Can you get Paul to agree to talk to me?"
"Paul does what he wants I can try though."
"Right now?"
Jacob glanced around. " I dunno Bella, I haven't seen him." She looked down and he sighed and tilted his head towards the door. She smiled and hopped up.
"Can we walk?" she said already walking past her truck. Jacob shrugged and they carried on down the path. Halfway down Jacob caught Paul's scent. He was close Jacob nodded for a second.
"Bella, if you had to choose after your memories come back... Who would you choose?"
"If they come back...I would choose Paul for sure."
She jumped at the rustle of the trees and Jacob steadied her. " Its just Paul."
Bella turned and tried to find him. "Paul, I'm Sorry." She heard the leaves rustle again but then it was nothing but silence.
She gripped her hair, "Please."
