Chapter 33 – It's Impossible
The Winchester brothers lay in their bed, Dean wrapped in Sam's long arms. The lights were out, the bunker quiet and peaceful, all the day's trials and grief suspended in a warm silence.
Sam whispered, "You know I love you, right?"
"Of course," Dean answered and turned his face for a delicate kiss.
"Ah, sweet sovereign of my captive heart, I see heaven when I see thee". Sam continued his whisper.
Dean rolled completely over. In the dark he could not see his brother's face. "What's up Sam? You doin' OK?" You seem a little depressed."
"Never depressed with you in my arms. " Sam answered. "You do not tremble and shrink from the touch of my hand in your hair. Let my fingers but see thou art warm and alive."
"What have you been reading, Sam? " Dean answered in a whisper. "Or is this a song?"
"Why must we hide who we are?" Sam grumbled deep in his chest. "Why can others not leave us be?
"Come, enter into my imagination and see me. We are two men, in love; two brothers in love, why does the world judge this love to be impossible?"
"The wild winds of fortune will carry us forward, whithersoever they blow. " Sam sang his love song to his brother. "Who are they that judge us? Who hate and fear us because of our love? I wish to walk with you in the sun so all could see we belong to each other."
"I don't think it's possible, Sam." Dean stroked Sam's face. "Perhaps in the future if the world were to change but I fear that world is an impossible dream."
"Why should we not dream the impossible dream? " Sam responded and brushed through Dean's hair then traced his lips. "To right the unrightable wrong; to reach the unreachable star?"
"Ah, Sam, you were always a dreamer." Dean whispered.
"If they would leave us be; allow us to walk in the sun, unashamed." Sam responded again. "I'll always dream,"
"The impossible dream."
