After a hurried conference in the kitchen, the five adults, each holding their coffee cup, walked into the sunroom where the twins were busily examining the small gifts that had been concealed in their stockings.
David looked up as the group walked in. After exchanging looks with Diana, he walked over to where Christine and Reid had sat down on the sofa and, without preamble, asked. "Are you our mother?"
"Why do you ask?" Christine was curious.
"Jack says you look like us," Diana spoke up as she joined them. "And, his Aunt Jessica says he looks like his mother."
"And you were kissing daddy," David added. "And mommies and daddies kiss a lot."
"E - w – w – w," Diana opinioned.
"What if I am your mother?" Christine was trying to keep her voice calm as she reached over to tightly grasp Reid's hand. "What would that mean?"
"That you can come home and live with us," David sounded sure of himself.
"And make cookies," Diana piped up.
"You do know that mothers and fathers don't always live together, don't you?" Reid thought it was time he got involved. "Like Henry and his mother and father."
"Well," Diana scrunched her face up. "Maybe if you wanted to live with Uncle Dave, you could come visit us."
"And, we could come visit you and make cookies," David added.
"That sounds like a very good idea," Christine agreed. "Particularly the cookies. And, yes, I am your mother."
"Okay," David accepted the news without question. "Can we open our presents now?"
Rossi began shaking with silent laughter as Christine replied. "Yes, we can start opening presents!"
As James pointed out later, there are some things that adults tend to make a bigger deal of then children do!
