New Year's Eve Day began with Morgan and Garcia's wedding. As Christine had suggested, it was a small, personal affair with the promise of a larger party after the baby was born. Morgan's mother and sisters had flown in the day before, and Fran was obviously thrilled with the prospect of becoming a mother-in-law as well as a grandmother.
An intimate brunch followed, and then the newlyweds left to spend their honeymoon at a nearby luxury resort selected by Blake and Christine. Morgan had been far too nervous to make arrangements, and the two women had been delighted to help their friends out.
That evening Rossi and Christine, as well as Reid and the twins, were at the DuValle family home. When she had invited them, Eleanor had described the evening as a small gathering of family and friends but, as he looked around, Rossi decided that maybe the DuValle family was even larger than his own. He turned his attention back to Robert DuValle, with whom he was discussing arrangements for the eagerly anticipated new arrivals.
"You're telling me you hired a full-fledged RN for the babies?" Robert asked.
"And for Christine," Rossi replied. "With the problems Haley had, Aaron insisted on it."
"We were lucky," he continued. "The nurse I hired has been working in the neo-natal ICU unit for the past several years, and was looking to take a break. She starts next week."
"There is also the fact that twins have a 54% chance of being born prematurely," Reid joined them. "If that happens and we have a fully qualified nurse available, we will be able to bring them home from the hospital sooner."
Rossi surveyed the room and smiled as he saw Christine and Phillipa Biaglow walking towards the three men. "And, here is the lovely mother-to-be now," he declared gallantly, holding out his hand to her.
When Christine not only took Rossi's hand but also reached up to kiss him directly on the lips, Robert's eyes opened wide and he immediately looked over at an oblivious Reid, who was staring, transfixed, at Phillipa.
"Spencer," he made a decision. "Why don't you take Phillipa over to the bar and make sure she gets something to drink? Then, both of you make sure you get something to eat."
As Reid led a willing Phillipa away, Rossi smiled. "We were being a little too obvious?" he asked with his eyes twinkling.
"Um - Yes," Robert replied. "Although, Spencer didn't seem to notice."
"I think he has had feelings for Phillipa for quite some time," Christine nodded towards the couple. "And, I know she has been pursuing him. Garcia tried to talk him into asking her as his guest at Derek's and her wedding this morning, but he just resisted."
"I'll have to mention that to Eleanor," Robert smiled. "I'm sure she can come up with something."
