Super sorry for the delay. Really, really, sorry please forgive me. I was crazy busy with work and other stuff. I feel so bad for leaving you on a cliffhanger like that! Please don't be mad!
You guys were close to unanimous in voting for what should happen to Dain. Here it goes!
Thorin let out a yell and made his decision. He pulled the sword out of Dain's shoulder violently. Dain held his bleeding shoulder gasping in pain. Thorin just stared at him with disgust till he finally said, "he'll go to trial."
Bilbo let out a relived sigh and smiled at Thorin. He knew Thorin would make the right choice. The hobbit always had faith in Thorin, no matter how dark and hateful things became, Bilbo kept his faith that Thorin would make it through and be a great king and friend.
Dain passed out and Thorin looked to Bilbo returning the smile. Thorin opened his mouth to say something but he was interrupted by the sound of a door opening. The king and the hobbit turned to the sound of the noise to see Kili standing in the doorway next to Dwalin. Kili dropped his sword and ran to his uncle. Thorin smiled even brighter letting go of his own sword. He took a few steps forward to meet Kili who threw his arms around his uncle nearly knocking him to the ground. Thorin pulled Kili in as tightly as he could. Kili openly cried, not caring what anyone thought. They both dropped to the ground still holding onto one another.
Thorin let go of Kili and pressed his forehead into his. "It's over now," Thorin whispered. "It's over now, nephew."
Dwalin walked over to Dain and cared him away. He got someone to bandage his shoulder and locked him up along with his supports in the dungeons. Dwalin made sure to have guards watching Dain every second. Dwalin swore that he would never let him hurt anyone again.
In the mean time, Thorin and Kili went down to the healing room to see their other family members. Dis was sitting in a chair next to where Fili was asleep. Oin had just finish properly bandaging up the deep gashes on Fili's back and was talking with Dis about how the damage to his back may cause future problems.
Dis smiled with tears in her eyes when she saw her brother walk in. she stood up and hugged just as tightly as Kili had. They held on to each other and Oin, feeling out a place, stepped out for a moment. "Dis, I am sorry," Thorin said to his sister after their embrace. "I should have never let this happen." Thorin glanced over at Fili and let out a long sad breath.
"He'll be alright, we'll be alright," Dis put her hand on his shoulder and smiled a hopeful smile.
The three Durins sat around the bed, not speaking to each other, watching Fili heal. Thorin's eyes kept darting between the members of his family. He was still worried about their safety, afraid if he stood watching them something would happen. An hour passed by, then another. Oin would come in and check on Fili's wounds every once in a while with a dark look in his face. An extremely deep wound on the lower half of Fili's back troubled him. Fili slept on, stirring once or twice, but never waking. Oin would insure them that he would recover.
Bilbo entered the room after the third hour. He crept in so no one noticed him until he cleared his throat. Thorin jumped out of his chair ready to attack. "Sorry," Bilbo apologized. "I hate to do this but, Thorin you are needed elsewhere," Bilbo said starting to wonder when he became a messenger.
Thorin glanced at Dis and Kili not moving from his spot. "We'll still be here when you get back Thorin," his sister said with a smile. Thorin nodded and followed the hobbit.
The two walked in silence for the longest time. Bilbo fiddled with the ring in his pocket to relieve the awkwardness he was feeling. "I never thanked you did I?" Thorin suddenly said.
Bilbo laughed nervously, "for what?"
"Everything. If it wasn't for you much would be different. I never would have made it to this mountain, I would have frozen in that tunnel and my family would be…," Thorin stopped walking and looked down at his feet.
Bilbo reached up and put his hand on Thorin's shoulder. Not sure what would be the right thing to say Bilbo just gave him a smile and said the worst was behind them and all they could do now was move forward.
Finally they reached the main hall were Bard was standing waiting for them. Thorin blinked a few times completely forgetting about everything that happened with the bowman. Thorin took a few steps towards not sure what was going to happen next. Yet, when Bard flashed him a smile, some of Thorin's doubts disappeared.
"I am glad to see you are well King Thorin," Bard said with a slight bow only making Thorin more confused.
Thorin cleared his throat. "Are you…well?" the king asked still wondering when Bard was going to try to kill him for what he did.
Bard nodded, "Yes. The venom wore off about an hour ago."
There was silence between them.
"Bard about what happened," Thorin began, but was cut off by Bard.
"It is alright Thorin; Master Baggins here explained everything to me. He told me what your cousin was doing, and what he was holding over you. I understand that you had no choice but to act," Bard said and Thorin's jaw dropped slightly. "If our roles were reversed I would have done the same."
The corner of Thorin's mouth twitched, "the things we do for our family."
"Indeed," Bad agreed with a nod.
Thorin asked where his children were and Bard told him they were in the other room waiting for him. He told Thorin that they had forgiven him for what happened and Sigrid was very worried about Fili and wished him a speedy recovery. The two lords talked for a while about what was going to happen next and about the trail that was awaiting Dain. Bard dismissed himself shortly after.
Thorin returned to the healing room. Fili woke up a few times asking what was going on and struggled to stay awake as Kili told him everything that happened. Fili shifted in place. He moved only a little then gasp loudly and stopped trying.
Fili continued to stay awake, but everyone could tell it was taxing on him. Knowing he was only staying awake for them Dis said it was time for everyone to get some rest and insisted that Kili sleep in a proper bed. The three got up to leave, but Fili asked if Thorin could stay a little longer. Thorin sat down in the chair closes to Fili.
"Is everything alright?" Thorin asked.
Fili nodded digging his head into the pillow. "Yeah, it's just…," Fili didn't finish his sentence.
"I promise you Fili, I will never let anyone hurt you again," Thorin swore. Fili said nothing but tears began to form in his eyes. "Fili, what's wrong?"
"Thorin I…," Fili said through his tears.
"Are you in pain?" Thorin guessed. "I'll get Oin." Thorin stood up.
"No!" Fili yelled out and Thorin sat back down "it's not pain…I'm not feeling pain."
Thorin sighed in relief. "That's good at least."
Fili shook his head crying even harder. "No, it's not. You don't understand Thorin…I'm not feeling any pain. I'm not feeling anything at all."
"Fili what are you saying?" Thorin asked feeling his throat tighten up.
Fili openly cried. "I tried to move them, but I couldn't. Thorin…I can't…I can't feel them. I can't feel my legs."
Whoa it is good to be back! Super sorry about the long delay. Next chapter is the last and I promise it will not take me another four months! Please review and not yell me for taking so long.
