A/N Credit to Minecraft Gaurdiansaiyan for this idea of a tour of Starfleet. I am a lot happier because IT'S DECMEBER -eats anything in sight and dances around-! I was going to do a thanksgiving chapter but because we don't celebrate it here I'm not really sure what you guys do over there? So thank you for all the lovely reviews, I love you all. I'm even happier because Diego the dick got moved away from me in English (thank you Ellen I love you forever)
Beawolfs pen – I have no idea if it is going to be Spirk (I ship it too) but if it is it's going to be a long way off (like after STID). That being said I would try not to break your heart so you can read it and also you're my favourite reader (but don't tell anyone else)
ZenaraTheDragon: WOW… you have given me an entire storyline. Thank you I think if I did eventually do it, it would be quite a way off because I want to do the 2009 film and STID. But hey anything is possible.
So anyway on with that chapter!
This is dedicated to Ellen for getting Diego moved and generally being awesome
Chapter 7 (I think): Starfleet
JT wanted to die. Hopefully he would have some accident that would land him in the hospital and could avoid the day he had been dreading for the past month. The annoying thing about hacking into your own file and creating a completely new person that had no connection to Starfleet (especially a heroic dead father and absent mother) was that no one could understand why he didn't want to go. JT wasn't exactly going to tell everyone about his messed up life, he liked it at the house. So the day quietly came upon them. The tour of the nearby Starfleet base.
He was just debating running off into the woods for the day and leaving a note. He'd done it so many times that the staff didn't care anymore; but after last time he didn't fancy breaking his arm and bleeding to death in the back end of nowhere (his father had made that mistake.)
His decision made for him when a hyper Pavel came rushing into his room as he pulled on a hoodie, so no one could see him; today he would play a sullen teenager and hope they didn't ask him any questions. Pavel caught him off-balance and tackled him to the ground. After pulling them both to a standing position he cursed Sulu for giving him sugar for breakfast, he knew what that did to Pavel! Chances were Pavel had probably just taken it secretly and run off.
He was the last one onto the bus and the driver gave him a scowl for being late and shut the doors behind him. JT gave him a dazzling smile and made his way to the back, where his friends were waiting for him. Bones gave him a concerned look while Spock just raised his eyebrows and continued talking Uhura in Andorian; they were talking about something scientific. JT couldn't be bothered to listen.
The Bus jolted forward and they were off out of the grounds and along the highway out of town. JT sat next to the window staring out and after a few attempts at conversation Bones gave up on him and chatted to Hikaru about last nights football match. JT continued to stare, a sense of dread filling him.
He was on the verge of throwing himself out of the window when they pulled up to the compound. A man in a red uniform came out to check them over before waving them through to a large parking lot where a man and a woman were waiting.
JT slinked off the bus last and came to stand next to Bones, quickly pulling his hood up against the cold November air. He finally looked up at the man who had begun to welcome them to the compound and outline what they were going to do.
He froze; he knew that voice that was Captain Christopher Pike. He was the guy who he had shot back on Tarsus; he thought that he was one of Kodos' men. He had only had it on stun and remembered passing out shortly after from a return shot from the man. To make it worse he was an admirer of his father, wrote a damned dissertation on the whole Kelvin incident. This was not looking good; JT hoped that Pike wouldn't recognize him, a lot had changed since then; his hair was shorter, he had put on some weight and muscle and most importantly had never told the guy him name. If he just kept hid head down and didn't draw any attention to himself he could go back to the house and go on with his life like nothing had happened.
With a goal in mind he followed the rest of the group around the compound as Pike was explaining that his ship, the Lincoln, was in for a repair after a scuffle with some Klingons. He introduced the woman as his first officer, Number One. JT was sulking behind with Bones who wanted to be here about as much as he did, at least he didn't have personal vendetta against Stafleet like him. They were pretty happy just to try to look out for any things that they could get for the car and make up funny stories about the conspiracies that Sulu liked. JT thought the one about Pike being a android spy sent by the Vulcans to spy on us was the funniest.
They had all stopped outside a door and Pike started explaining about transporters and how they worked to get people places. JT wasn't stupid he knew exactly how a simple transporter worked. It was obvious that Spock and Scotty were the same. Pavel seemed to be idolising Pike and hanging onto his every word; JT couldn't blame him, he was still pretty innocent to the galaxy.
JT could feel Bones tense beside him as Pike stated that they would be using the transporter to beam aboard the Lincoln. JT really did not want to be onboard a starship, he would much rather stay put on the ground. Less death and destruction that way. Bones would agree with him.
He wanted to put his hand up and say that he did not want to go onto the ship and would happily stay put and wait for them to return. Bones beat him to it.
"very sorry to interrupt, but there is no way my feet are leaving the perfectly safe ground to be broken up into little bits and maybe end up onboard a starship, I'm staying here" Bones stated, he could be pretty scary when he wanted to be.
Pike looked over to him "Transporters are much safer than they used to be, the first one was on Enterprise who Admiral Archer captained" Pike replied "But if you really don't want to go Number One can show you around the hangars" Pike added sympathetically.
JT whispered to him "I'm coming with you, no way I'm leaving the ground either"
Bones smiled back at him and slapped him on the back. They both listened to the rest of the talk before staying back with Number One. When she asked why he wasn't going up as well he just shrugged and said about staying with his friend. She accepted his answer and led them around the back of the room to a hangar.
It was empty of people when they entered, but full of various shuttles and weapons and other random bits of tech. Scotty would be able to build an entire ship out of all of this. Once they had scraped their chins of the floor Number One took them around. She had an in depth knowledge of everything in there, from shuttles to plasma cannons. They didn't notice that four hours had passed until Number One's comm. Chirped with Pike telling her to bring the kids over to the mess for lunch. She made a gesture at the device before putting it away and dragging to two teens away from the phasers that they were currently holding and pointing at each other (out of charge obviously)
The bright sunlight made them wince after being inside for so long so JT didn't notice the guy standing right outside the door. Being an accident-prone idiot (Bones' words) he ran right into him. When he eyes finally adjusted to the light, he was looking at none other than Captain Pike, who was holding his shoulders steady as he regained his balance. Bones was laughing next to him and Number One had a smile on her face. JT flushed pink and pulled himself away from Pike. Pike's expression changed from one of amusement to one of curiosity and concentration. Crap JT thought he recognises me, I am so screwed.
Luckily for him Number One pulled him out of it "Chris, you okay, you look like you've seen a ghost" She laughed at him
Pike shook his head and turned away from them and walked off so they all followed behind him to a short squat building that was as grey and drab as the rest of the place. It could really do with some nice colourful paint, maybe the uniforms as well. If Pike's was anything to go by.
The inside was not much better, drab grey walls with some pictures of old ships, including the Kelvin, and a bit of propaganda to get people to join. They could spot their group in a line waiting for the replicators. Pike and Number One split off from their group to sit down at a table. JT was just relieved not to have been found out. He decided against food and settled on a glass of milk before grabbing a seat next to Sulu as he went on about how cool the bridge of the Lincoln was. Pavel was almost jumping up and down to get a word in edgeways and between them seemed to get the message across that they enjoyed their time up there. Spock was his usual self, but did concede that the labs were very interesting and logical. Scotty managed to pick up a piece for the car in engineering and Uhura had marvelled at the communications array on the bridge, saying the language opportunities were amazing. Bones and JT recounted their time in the hangar as well as producing their own bits of junk for the car. They were all happy with the tour and couldn't wait to ask Pike all the questions they had.
After lunch Pike did indeed answer questions; much to JT's annoyance, he kept looking at him trying to figure out who he was. Stupid curious Starfleet Captain. The question and answer session ended when one of the staff stated that it was late and that they needed to get back before dark. Pike agreed with her and expressed his thanks for having them. JT wouldn't feel safe until he was back on that bus and out of the place.
The time seemed to drag on as they were getting back on the bus, JT took a seat on the opposite side of the bus to the one Pike was standing by and made sure that Scotty was in the window seat. He didn't want Pike to work out who he was after all his hard work to create a new identity, which isn't easy to do at thirteen.
Again, luck was on his side as the bus pulled away and out of the compound, hopefully never to return. It made its way further and further back towards the house and with every passing mile JT felt calmer. He even joined in with the terrible singing that Gailia had started and that quickly escalated into some very awkward tunes; the less said about that the better. And before they knew it they were pulling up outside the house and pilling off into the cold air before running to get into the lounge and more importantly the real fire that had been lit while they were away.
It was decided that monopoly would be a good game to play for the rest of the evening before dinner. It quickly turned into all out war and Scotty had to be removed from the room, still shouting about how Bones had short-changed him as the banker (they would let Spock do it in the future.). After vowing never to ever play that game again they thought that it might be a good idea to do something less antagonising, like cards. A game of 'go fish' was set up and won by JT with no more fisticuffs. After that, dinner was called and JT only ate to avoid the intense gaze of Bones, who still nagged him about not eating enough. Pretty normal dinner for them all then.
So overall it ended up all okay, JT was still JT; the others got a chance to go on a starship and Bones never had to leave planet Earth.
- A little extra bit that will hopefully develop into a major plot point -
Chris still could not shake the feeling that he knew that kid from somewhere, he had been thinking about it as the group left and didn't get another look because the kid had sat away from the windows. It had been playing on his mind the rest of the day and through dinner as well. Number One had tried to get it out of him, but he wouldn't budge. Whoever that kid was, he was definitely hiding something.
And Chris was going to find out what it was
A/N that chapter took me my whole Sunday afternoon to do (like 3 hours of it) anyway so I put Pike in there because I can and I sort of have an idea of where it is going to go from here and how it is going to end then follow on to the 2009 movie etc. I hopefully should be able to write more often because I am done with controlled assessments for now but I still have to read Lord of the flies in English (worst book ever published. Ellen will agree with me here) And so I might hate my language so much that I will move to France and just speak French for the rest of my life.
Fun fact for you all, I actually went and bought a star trek pillow online inbetween this chapter. I think they are awesome and you can also buy other things like hoodies and prints of the same design. I'm gonna give you the link because there is free shipping till Monday internationally.

Hope all my American buddies had a good thanksgving, then after being thankful for what they have went and bought a load of cool stuff on Friday. I went bowling on Friday then we all went walking in a dark forest before I saw a guy and legged it under a bridge and on top of a wall. A WORD TO THE WISE DON'T GO WALKING IN DARK WOODS BECAUSE BAD SHIT WILL HAPPEN LIKE IN SUPERNATURAL.
Please review and follow and just be nice because I am a sensitive English person with Doctor who feels after the 50th anniversary.
