(Jack)

"Oh," Pitch said, feigning bashfulness, "you remember me, how kind of you, Frost." He said with a toothy grin, his black dust spreading everywhere.

"Don't be so flattered, I always remember those I hate." I hissed, still holding out my arms, protecting (y/n) and Jamie.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw (y/n) helping Jamie out of the tree. Her hands trembled slightly with fear and her eyes were glossed over, giving them a glassy, mirror-like look to them.

"(Y/n)," I said, she glanced up at me, Jamie still in her arms, "take Jamie out of here. Now." I commanded, if they stayed, they were in potential danger, because last time I thought I could fight Pitch, I nearly got myself killed, I needed all of the Guardians to put him down, and I am all alone.

"No. No way, there's no way I am leaving you alone out here, Jack." (Y/n) said, lifting her chin in defiance.

"(Y/n), please, you're not safe here." I begged, suddenly scared myself.

Pitch floated slightly above the frozen pond, chuckling lightly to no one, but himself, "why, let the girl stay, Jack. She is after all, one of mine. I'll make a deal here, you let her stay, I let the boy run to safety. He'll be back home to his mommy in no time."

"No. Let them both go, or so help me – "

"'So help you,' what, Jack? You'll get yourself nearly killed again?"

"Jack, let me stay." (Y/n) said softly, she was putting Jamie down, never taking her eyes off of Pitch. "Jamie, sweetie, I need you to run home as fast as you can." (Y/n) said, grabbing Jamie's arms, rather tightly.

"No, (y/n), Jack said himself, I am a Guardian." Jamie said, tearing himself away from (y/n) and crossing his across his chest.

"Jamie, please," now, (y/n) was begging, "you can be a Guardian, if you go home and take care of your mom, ok? Jack and I will be just fine."

"Do you promise?" Jamie asked hesitantly.

"I promise. Now, run, Jamie. Run." (Y/n) said, giving Jamie a small shove in the direction of his house.

Jamie nodded slightly, and took off running. (Y/n) stood up, and came slightly closer to me.

"Good," Pitch said with a sneer, the corners up his mouth twisting up into a devilish sneer, "now, that's all done, let us get right to fun part."

(You)

I watched as Jamie ran off in the other direction, farther and farther away from me. I blinked back a few tears, I needed to be brave, I could show this man – no, this, thing – that I was not afraid of him.

"Who are you? Or, rather, what are you?" I asked the thing in front of me.

He was in a long black dress, seemingly made for men, with slick, jet-black hair, and yellow-like eyes, much like that of a feline. His skin was sickly pale, but he looked in good health. His face was surprisingly angular, and his toothy grin made him seem like the stuff of nightmares.

"Why, my dear child, I am the monster that lives under kids beds. My name is Pitch, and I am king of nightmares." He said. Although his scary looks made him seem very intimidating, he had a calm, soothing, voice. Perhaps, that is how he drew kids close to him.

"What do you want with us, Pitch?" Jack spat at him.

"No, my dear, Jack. Not us, just, her." Pitch said, pointing one, long, bony, grey finger in my direction.

My eyes widened, and my heart stopped for one second, "what do you want with me?" I said, hoping to control my shaky voice.

"You're not getting her, regardless of what you want with her, so just forget it, Pitch." Jack said, he sounded angry, but there was a hint of fear that radiated off of his body.

"I want to know what he wants with me, Jack." I said, grabbing at Jack's arm, tugging his blue sleeve slightly.

Jack turned his head, his blue eyes held nothing but pain and his lips quivered slightly, "(y/n)," he said, and I'd never heard so much pain in one word, he was pleading for me to stop.

"I need to know, I'm sorry." But I would never stop, not until I find out, exactly what this thing wanted with me.

"You, my darling, as you have already found out, are the Guardian of Halloween. In case you haven't noticed, Halloween isn't the most cheerful holiday on the face of this godforsaken rock, if you become a Guardian, you will not be on the side of the angels, my dear." Pitch said, inching slightly closer to us.

"She will not be evil, like you, Pitch." Jack hissed, inching us backwards.

"I have no intentions of turning into a Guardian, either, so you can forget your stupid little plan, I'm not becoming one of your minions." I said, frowning, my mind was made up, I would not live forever to see those I love wither away and die, I wanted to do it with them.

"Oh, but it's already been decided!" Pitch's voice boomed throughout the whole park, echoing slightly as he spread his arms forward, his black dust coming at me, at incredibly alarming speeds.

"(Y/n)!" Jack screamed, grabbing the collar of my dress and throwing me out of the way, just in time, before the black dust got to me.

Instead, the black dust got Jack, and it wrapped around his slender frame like a snake, suffocating him. Pitch shook his head in discontent as I picked myself up off the floor, I hadn't gotten hurt because the snow had made a cover for me.

"Well, Jacky here isn't exactly the target I had in mind, but, he'll still work for me." Pitch said, smiling at Jack.

"Let him go, please!" I begged, on my knees.

"(Y/n)," Jack said, "run."

Suddenly, the black dust coiled around Jack's waist and chest tighter, and Jack gasped, the light was leaving his eyes.

"Please, stop!" I screamed, tears suddenly flowing down my cheek as I watched the one person who saved me begin to die.

I suddenly remembered my brother, and I remember how useless I felt, just watching him die, watching the breath escape his lips, and his usually rosy cheeks, go pale, like the snow that took his life. I will not be useless again, I will not watch someone I love, die again. Never again. I stood up, dusting myself off, and set my sights on Pitch, and Jack, whose eyes were struggling to stay open.

"Let him go!" I screamed at Pitch, charging at him and jumping at him.

He didn't know I was coming, his defenses were down, and I successfully tackled him. He grunted as we both hit the ice, with a thud, and the ice cracked beneath us. He dropped Jack, who suddenly gasped and breathed in small little tufts of air. I smiled as I saw him pick himself up, slightly coughing.

"I must admit, it's been fun, my dear, but I have no intention of freezing." Pitch said, suddenly floating away.

"(Y/n)," Jack said, his voice quivering, I glanced back at him. He had his hands held out for me and his fingertips were shaking, and I realized why he was so scared.

The ice beneath me was breaking.

I glanced back up at him, before he became a blur and I went under, further, and further, and further down. I could hear Jack screaming for me, and I thought I saw his figure, swimming down for me, but I wasn't too sure. Because my world was going black, and my whole body stung with the cold, as it ate me away slowly.

And it wasn't long, until I closed my eyes, and drifted away.
