"Mama!"
Five year old Uchiha Sarada settled into her mother's lap after one of her frequent visits to the Uzumaki's. Snuggling deeper into the red dress when warm hands wrapped around her.
"Tadaima. How was it? Did you have fun?"
"Well... Yes." Sarada started, unsure of how exactly she should phrase her question. "But mama..."
"What's wrong?" She didn't usually have any trouble staying at Naruto's while she was busy with her shifts.
"I asked Naruto-jii-chan why he married Hinata-baa-chan and he said it was because she's 'hot'." Sarada finished with air quotes to emphasise the adjective.
Sakura tried to stifle a laugh, she was pretty sure Boruto had been present when Naruto said that. In front of his son, Naruto always tried to look manlier, which somehow translated to acting the exact opposite way from how he usually did in front of Hinata.
Considering the Hyuuga had him whipped, she didn't think Naruto was completely wrong.
"But when I asked Hinata-baa-chan how to choose the right person to marry, she said that I should find someone that 'shines brighter than the stars'." She crinkled her nose, fiddling with her new glasses. Trying to hide her embarrassment at revealing to her mother that she had asked her uncle and aunt about boys of all things!
"And?" Sakura prompted for her daughter to finish exactly what she was so concerned about.
Honestly, when she was at Sarada's age she was still worried about cooties. But having grown up with Boruto, Sakura guessed it was only to satisfy her own curiosity. She had to hand it to Hinata though, it was a pretty good description for her own love story considering what had happened when they were younger.
"I don't understand what they meant." Sarada whispered. Dismayed by her lack of knowledge.
It was moments like this that Sakura saw just how much Sarada reminded her of Sasuke when he was younger. They both hated admitting it when they didn't know something or when they were wrong. Adorable, most of the time. But slightly annoying the other times. Especially when it concerned the older Uchiha.
And what exactly did Sasuke-kun like to call me back then?
"What didn't you understand?"
"Well... Why hot? I mean, the sun is hot. But I don't like the sun. If I hugged it, it would burn me." She paused, before adding, "because it's hot".
"Sarada-chan-" Sakura tried to use the gentlest voice she could muster while attempting not to laugh. But Sarada must've heard a giggle or two because she continues in attempt to defend herself.
"And shining brighter than the stars... Isn't it comparing the person to a nebular that has exploded thousands of years ago?"
Her mother revisited the familiar urge to face palm at how the smartest kids tended to be the slowest at some things.
Just like Sasuke.
And Sai.
And Shikamaru.
Maybe it was a 'smart kids with an S-initial in their name' thing.
"Sarada-chan, Naruto-jii-chan and Hinata-baa-chan don't mean it literally. Rather, it's supposed to be metaphoric. In fact, with Naruto-jii-chan, if you ask him another time, I'm sure he'll say it just has to be someone you like."
Or Boruto.
Remembering Naruto's outrageous attempts at what he considered subtle matchmaking, it would be "Just marry Boruto".
"Oh."
Sakura nodded. She was so glad that her little girl was smart enough to understand what she meant.
"Mama, why did you marry Papa then?"
"Hm? Because I love him silly. You just have to be with the one you like Sarada-chan."
"Mmm." Sarada hummed at the new found knowledge, storing it away.
"I'm sure when you ask Papa when he comes back, he'll tell you the exact same thing." Sakura gave her an eskimo kiss before sending her to prepare for bed, happy that she managed to pass on a good message to her daughter.
"Papa?"
Sasuke looked at his princess, her hair mussed from sleep. He must has woken her when he came in.
"Yes?"
"How should I choose the person I should marry?"
What did the idiot do this time?
Why was his baby girl asking about marriage all of a sudden?
Did the dead last's son say something to her?
She looks adorable, surrounded by the Uchiha fan patterned sheets. His daughter is the most precious thing. Most beautiful girl in the village - even the world - along with his wife.
Of course the kid would do something.
Maybe he proposed. He would do the same if he were the kid. Scare away the competition by asking early on.
Why didn't he think of this sooner?
"Papa?"
"Nothing hime. You only have to send them to me and pray for their safety."
