The Confrontation
A gun shot fired and Eliza Petrova froze in panic, not knowing what to do. Instantly, her eyes wandered swiftly to the table that Klaus had been sitting at with Rebekah all but a few moments ago. However, they were no longer there. People started screaming as many of the windows around smashed. William, who she had been reluctantly dancing with, had fled and left her standing in the middle of the dance floor on her own. The fact that he had left her, not even bothering to protect her while there were bullets been fired just proved that he cared less about her than he claimed. Then again, Klaus was nowhere in sight and he claimed to love her too.
Unable to bring herself to run, she looked around again to try and find the shooter. Many people as they were running ended up bashing into her as they hurried to escape. More windows smashed and Eliza still found herself searching and longing for Klaus Mikaelson. Taking a few steps towards the stairs near the main entrance, she found herself walking on glass. Since she was only wearing thin flat shoes, the glass pierced itself slightly into her skin. The pain was bearable so she carried on walking towards the stairs. Suddenly a man appeared at the front entrance. At the sight of blonde messy hair Eliza thought it was Klaus returning to rescue her, but as she walked closer towards the man she found that it was just a stranger. His striking blue eyes met hers for a moment and the silence in the bar seemed to echo round the room as the final people fled.
Around Eliza lay a few injured or dead people. Two of them had been shot and three of them had been killed by the glass windows exploding. Stefan Salvatore also lay unconscious on the floor and Eliza wondered whether he was dead or not. She hoped that this wasn't the case. Standing frozen, she saw that the man in front of her held a gun in his hands. A small gasp escaped her lips and she stayed frozen on the stairs, not knowing what to do. If this man planned to shoot her, then she would need Klaus to rescue her. But right now she was all by herself, alone with the murderer.
" Please don't hurt me," Eliza managed to whisper a small plea of panic after a few moments of silence. The unknown man took a few steps closer towards her, a small smile forming on his face.
" I won't hurt you. I'm not here to hurt innocent, vulnerable humans," The man spoke to her in a calm voice, dropping the gun to the ground and holding his arms up in surrender. Eliza stood confused for a moment. It crossed her mind that this man could easily be lying, that he did plan to kill her but still she didn't move from her place on the stairs.
" W-Why did you kill these people?" Eliza whispered while small tears began to well in her eyes. She was now begging in her mind for Klaus to come back and find her. But still neither he nor Rebekah were anywhere in sight.
" Because they are vampires. They are abominations on this earth. They had to be killed," The man explained simply, shrugging as if killing innocent people was a kind thing to do.
" V-Vampires?" Eliza stuttered, a deep frown forming on her face. In that very moment, she concluded that this man must be crazy and that she needed to get out of this bar right now.
" You didn't know? I had thought that Niklaus would have been kind enough to inform you of his being, he seems that he has fallen in love with you. It's quite unfair that he never told you," Eliza again frowned and managed to take another step back away from Mikael.
" How do you know about me and Klaus?" Eliza questioned, still speaking in a low whisper. She was becoming more and more afraid as time passed. Klaus, she needed him.
" Oh I've been watching. You see Niklaus is my step-son and I have been wanting to meet you, his only love, for a very long time now. Here we are now, meeting at last. Though it surprises me that he's abandoned you here and saved his sister instead of you. One gunshot could have easily killed you, yet he abandoned you and practically left you to die," Eliza stayed silent as she heard this and looked down to the floor. She refused to believe that Klaus would just abandon her like that, there had to be a logical reason for why he hasn't come back for her. While she was looking away from the man, in a flash he was directly in front of her, only a few centimeters away. With a short gasp of surprise she took another step back.
" I do hate changing innocent humans into vampires. The last time I did was a thousand years ago. I will regret this. However I need to kill Niklaus and you are my only solution," The man said with a sad look in his eyes, he lifted a hand to stroke her cheek softly before he broke Eliza's neck in one swift movement. " Niklaus should be here any moment to see you. It's a shame you won't be awake to see it," Mikael continued speaking as Eliza's body dropped to the ground. As she landed with a soft thud, Mikael concealed himself within the curtains on the stage, making sure he could see the rest of the bar through a small gap. Now he awaited Niklaus' arrival, to truly see whether he had learned to love or not...
" I do wonder whether he will show up. It would be such a shame if he doesn't, it will truly ruin this touching love story of yours," Mikael commented as he placed the phone in his back pocket.
" I hope he doesn't come. It will anger you much more, since you will no longer have your leverage and yet again he will have escaped you," Eliza said in a low voice, still feeling the pain from her two broken legs.
" Oh but then I will have to kill you again and we both know that Niklaus doesn't want to see you die again," Mikael said with a smirk.
" Why do you even want to kill him in the first place? What has he done to deserve this?" Eliza questioned, curious to why Mikael is the only person that Klaus is afraid of.
" Besides killing many thousands of innocent humans?" Mikael said, watching Eliza curiously, awaiting her reaction. She nodded in reply. " I'm surprised he never told you, considering I'm his family,"
" He never told me anything about you to protect me. He believed the less I knew the better. Are you brothers?" Eliza questioned, wincing a little as her right leg began to heal itself. Mikael laughed maliciously.
" No, no. He's my step son," Mikael explained and Eliza frowned.
" So you want to kill your wifes son?" Eliza asked in disbelief. Even Klaus wouldn't be evil enough to do that.
" Before you start judging me, it would be best if you knew that I am a widow and that it was Niklaus himself who killed his own mother, he's the reason why my youngest son Henrik is dead and the reason why many of my children have been placed dead in a box for decades," Mikael told her coldly.
" So Rebekah and Elijah are your children? But Klaus isn't your child?"
" Yes. Their mother had an affair with a wolf and Niklaus was conceived as a result of her adultery,"
" And you stayed with your wife despite this?"
" Yes,"
" So instead of being angry at your wife, who was to blame, you punished Klaus instead? You treated him like an abomination before he even became a vampire?" Eliza carried on questioning him and things were beginning to make more sense. Now she knew why Klaus cared for very few people and they few people he did care for he protected with all of his life. He never had a father to love him.
" Yes,"
" And you wonder why Klaus kills all these people. Tell me then, how did they all become vampires?"
" After Henrik died Esther believed this would keep us all safe, we both turned them," Mikael explained. Eliza did wonder why Mikael was telling her all of this but she didn't dare ask, as she wanted these answers from him. This allowed her to understand Klaus more.
" So it was you who turned Klaus into the monster people see him as today," Eliza stated, staring coldly and hard at Mikael.
" Niklaus made himself a monster, do not try and place this blame on me," Mikael retorted, glaring straight back at Eliza. Eliza could tell she had struck a nerve,
" But it wasn't his fault that his mother had an affair. All he needed was a loving father and then maybe he would have become more moral like Elijah. Maybe he would have killed less people. It's your fault that he's like this and now that he's unfix-able you're just going to kill him off like the cowardly, horrid father you are!" Eliza shouted more angrily this time. Now she had definitely struck a nerve but this time she had struck it a lot harder. In anger, Mikael plunged his hand hard into Eliza's chest grabbing her heart.
" You know nothing about my family, your just a weak abomination who shouldn't be defending a monster like Klaus,"
" He is not a monster. You just believe he is because your wife cheated on you and he came because of it. You punished him for your own wife's mistakes," Eliza spoke quickly, taking big gasps of air as she spoke. The pain Mikael caused was excruciating, but she had now cried so much that there seemed to be no more tears left and now she knew the truth about Mikael she felt stronger than ever before.
" Now I see why Niklaus cares for you so much. You claim to see good in a monster who should never have been born. How foolish you are to believe that Niklaus can be the good person you want him to be," Mikael said, replacing his angered state with a calm demeanor and pulling his hand out of Eliza's chest.
" Believe what you want Mikael, it's sad how you know yourself that it is your fault that Klaus appears to be such a monster," Mikael's teeth clenched as Eliza said this, but instead of hurting her again he only clenched his fists.
" We must be going, I'm sure your friend Damon would love to help in my plan to kill Klaus. He seemed all but too eager to awaken me," Mikael announced with a small chuckle.
" Your plan won't work Mikael, you're too blinded by hatred of Klaus to be smart enough to kill him after he's evaded you for a thousand years," Eliza growled and as a result Mikael again grew angry and this time decided to snap her neck, causing Eliza to fall unconscious with worried thoughts of Klaus still swimming in her mind.
Klaus paced around the Lockwood Mansion with his hands clenched into fists by his side. Everything was set up perfectly; his twelve hybrids now had the Lockwood Mansion surrounded, there were crowds of humans inside meaning that Damon and Elena, who were obviously helping Mikael, wouldn't want to create a scene and Klaus himself was inside the house meaning that Mikael wouldn't be able to touch him. Other than this he had no plan of how he was going to save Eliza. He needed her to live and if it came down to it he would give his life for hers. But he had to be smart about what he was going to do; he had to outwit Mikael, it was his only option. Hopefully his hybrids would be able to save Eliza and then rather than worrying about her life, he could worry about how he was going to kill Mikael.
There was a chance that Eliza was already dead. This thought had been scaring Klaus ever since he'd ended the call to Mikael. It would be smart of Mikael to kill her before he comes to meet Klaus as then Klaus would probably be blinded by rage too much to think logically. However it would also be a good plan to bring Eliza and use her against Klaus, as he would do whatever it takes to protect her. Though there was a chance that Mikael didn't believe that Klaus actually loved her as much as he claims, and Klaus desperately hoped that this was true.
" Ah Stefan, has my special guest arrived yet?" Klaus questioned Stefan as he approached him. Luckily he'd managed to get to Stefan before Mikael did and he'd managed to convince Stefan to pretend to be apart of Damon's 'master plan'. Klaus didn't think Stefan would come in much use when it came down to the confrontation between him and Mikael, but it gave him a small advantage.
" Yes, he's at the door," Stefan replied emotionless, taking large gulp of the whiskey he was drinking in a fancy glass.
" Thank you Stefan, you have been of good use," Klaus thanked Stefan with a small grin, before heading off towards the front door, towards his worst nightmare. Before he reached the door Klaus made sure that he was calm and thinking straight, though his main efforts would be focused on saving Eliza, he couldn't let his worry for her disallow him to think logically. Planting his usual, casual smirk upon his face, Klaus arrived at the front door to meet the person who he hadn't seen in almost a thousand years. Mikael.
" Hello Niklaus," Mikael greeted him, wearing the same smirk on his face that he had. Eliza was nowhere in sight and Klaus instantly began to worry that he had been correct in thinking that Mikael had killed her before he'd arrived at the Lockwood mansion.
" Hello Mikael," Klaus greeted back, glaring at his father with menace. There had always been a mutual hatred between Klaus and Mikael, even when Klaus had only been a young, naive human boy. Mikael had always treated Klaus unfairly, he'd always treated him like he wasn't his own. " Where is Eliza?"
" Oh she has been delighting me by re-informing me of what I have missed over the past eighty years. She will be joining us soon," Mikael replied, his smirk growing even larger. Despite the anger Klaus was already feeling, he kept a calm and expressionless demeanor.
" Why don't you come inside?" Klaus asked with a small chuckle. " Oh wait you can't, you haven't been invited in. Such a shame,"
" Well you could come outside if you want," Mikael replied and Klaus let out a fake laugh.
" Or I could let my hybrids tear you limb from limb, just like you deserve really," Right on cue, all of Klaus' hybrids walked forward and Mikael turned to examine them for a moment.
" As you wish Niklaus. It will just mean I'll have to tear Eliza limb from limb as well," Klaus clenched his fists at the sound of this and his jaw hardened. Immediately Mikael noticed this and his malicious smirk grew yet again.
" Don't touch her again. This is between me and you, Eliza has nothing to do with anything," Klaus growled, no longer able to hide his anger any longer.
" I've already touched her Niklaus. I've hurt her over and over again and where were you to save her? You were off with your little hybrids leaving her with little protection," Mikael teased, knowing this would annoy Klaus.
" Well then my Hybrids will just have to do the same to you as part of my revenge," Klaus planted a smirk on his face again, he needed to look stronger than Mikael. He couldn't and wouldn't let Mikael over power him like he use to when he was just a mere human.
" You can't kill me Niklaus. They can't kill me," Mikael stated, gesturing towards the hybrids behind him.
" True, but it would make a hell of a party game," Klaus said, forcing a chuckle yet again. Though Klaus' light attitude didn't fool Mikael at all; Mikael could see straight through him and could tell that Klaus was afraid.
" Do remember that they are still part vampire, meaning that I can compel them,"
" Well all I have to do is snap my fingers and they'll pounce. They'll overpower you, giving you no chance to compel them," Klaus retorted, smirking wider as he realized he was winning the confrontation. Mikael paused for a moment and the two enemies glared at each other with equal amounts of menace.
" The big bad wolf," Mikael said with a chuckle. " You haven't changed. Your still hiding behind your play things, like the coward you are. Even when your one true love is in danger, you still hide and don't face me like a real man," Mikael growled and Klaus fell silent looking down towards the floor. The minute Klaus took his eyes away from Mikael, another vampire appeared and dragged Eliza to the scene. Roughly, Mikael grabbed her a pointed a wooden stake, that he retrieved from his pocket, straight at her heart.
" Eliza..." Klaus whispered, a deep frown forming on his face as he saw the endless amounts of wounds on her body. They caught each others eyes for a moment and Klaus could see the worry and fear flooding through her. It pained him to see her this way and again, like earlier on today, rage pounded through his body.
" Nik," Eliza said through tears, trying to ignore the pain in her body. " Nik he's com-" She began to speak quickly at a few moments of silence before she was stopped by Mikael sticking the stake slightly into the part of her body where her heart was beating. Instead of finishing her sentence she let out a shrill scream that caused Klaus to wince.
" Let her go!" Klaus shouted agressively, stopping himself from running forward and trying to save her now. If he did try to save her now, he wouldn't stand a chance against Mikael. " Do not kill her before we even have chance to fight Mikael, where would be the fun in that? I'm sure your hoping for a good fight since it's taken you a thousand years to find me," Klaus growled in a lower voice. One thing that Klaus did wonder was what Eliza had been going to say and why Mikael stopped her, but he pushed it from his mind knowing he couldn't worry about silly things like that right now.
" Oh you haven't heard my story yet Niklaus. See I decided to show a slight bit of mercy towards Eliza today, considering I was the one who turned her into a vampire," Mikael said, watching Klaus closesly for his reaction. Klaus frowned as soon as he heard this and more angered raged through him as he realised that it had been Mikaels fault that he had thought Eliza was dead, that it was Mikaels fault that he'd never gotten to be with Eliza, that it was Mikaels fault that Eliza is now the monster she never wanted to be. " See I decided to give her back her memories of you. I am capable of kindness you know,"
" It was you!" Klaus growled. " You claim that you are kind and hate vampires when you turned an innocent girl into one yourself! All to kill me, the monster you claim is much less powerful than you,"
" Oh but that isn't the best bit yest Niklaus, there is more!" Mikael exclaimed, laughing at Klaus' rage.
" Nik please don't-" Eliza began but again, before she could finish, Mikael plunged the stake in a little further.
" Don't," Klaus growled as he did, taking a step further towards Mikael but not far enough so that Mikael could touch him.
" You see, I'd already met Eliza before you did. I'd already heard that you were searching for Petrova Doppelgangers and wondered whether there was a chance you would grow to care for someone who resembled your first love, Tatia Petrova. Since I knew if I stuck to my normal plan, it was likely you would escape me again, I decided to change my plan. See I compelled Eliza Petrova. I compelled her to make sure she met you on the night she did, to fall in love you and try her hardest to make you fall in love with her. I planned the whole thing. She never loved you Niklaus. She only claimed to love you because of me," Mikael explained, smirking as sadness grew in Klaus' eyes as he heard the story. Though the sadness only lasted for a few moments, before anger replaced it.
" Save your lies father. You call me a coward when you hide behind your own manipulation!" Klaus growled, trying his best not to believe the story Mikael had just told him. It couldn't be true. It musn't be true...
" You don't believe me Niklaus?" Mikael questioned in mock surprise. " Well she can tell you herself, can't you Eliza?" Klaus' eyes fell upon Eliza, who now had many more tears streaming from her swollen red eyes. Klaus watched her in desperation, hoping that none of this could be true. For a moment, Eliza bit her lip, forcing herself no to say anything.
" It's true Klaus..." She whispered through cries, looking Klaus straight in the ears. " I don't love you. I never have. Now I know the truth..." Excruciating pain ripped itself through Klaus' heart as those words escaped Eliza's lips. For a few moments Klaus stood frozen as the pain spread throughout his body. Eliza had never loved him, were the words that now constantly echoed in his minds. Each time he thought of them it felt like she was plunging a stake in his heart. A few small tears welled up in his eyes and one by one they ran swiftly down his cheeks.
" Now then Niklaus. Now you know the truth, you can decide," Mikael said, enjoying seeing Klaus in pain. " You either come outside and face me or I will kill her," He threatened, tightening his grip he had on the stake he was holding.
" Kill her," Klaus growled after a few minutes of silence. All the sadness and pain had been wiped from his face and shear rage had now replaced it. His pained heart beat faster than before and every picture in his mind were thoughts of how he was going to kill Mikael for doing this all to him. Though still he didn't want Eliza to die... Despite everything he couldn't let her die. But this had been Mikael's plan all along and he can't of been expecting Klaus to tell him to kill Eliza. Maybe it would be better if Eliza were to be dead though... then he could get over her and live on in a Mikael free life.
" Nik please no! He co-" Eliza exclaimed, her eyes widening in terror. Again she couldn't finish her sentence as Mikael stopped her with the stake. Closing his eyes for a moment, Klaus drowned out the sound of her perfect voice and rid the picture of her beautiful, terrified face from her mind. All of his concentrations needed to be focused on Mikael.
" Careful Niklaus, if she dies you'll be all alone. You could have a chance with her, you may not want to blow that chance," Mikael said.
" I said, kill her," Klaus growled again, avoiding looking at Eliza. It hurt just to think about the fact that Eliza never loved him, he was afraid that if he looked at her for only a moment his angry appearance would be replaced with a pained and saddened one.
" So your going to live forever, with no one at your side? Nobody cares about you anymore boy! You have a chance to make her care... now come out and face me you little coward!" Mikael growled back in the same angry tone. Klaus paused for a moment, his hands begin to shake from anger.
" I said kill her," Klaus repeated for the third time. " Go on old man! Kill her!" He screamed one final time. Though he didn't yet know whether this was the right decision to make. Right now, to Klaus' disappointment, he is blinded by rage and can't stop thinking about the fact that Eliza doesn't love him anymore. It had all been one big lie...
" You impulse Niklaus," Mikael began after letting out a loud cackle of laughter. " It will always be the one thing that keeps you from truly being great," He finished.
For the final time Mikael and Klaus glared at each other hatefully, right before Mikael pushed the stake through into her body and Eliza screamed yet again. Klaus' eyes widened as he saw Eliza drop to the ground and again, tears welled in his eyes. Right then and there, he realized he'd made a very bad and wrong decision. It was now his fault that Eliza Petrova was dead. Before he had chance to see the dull grey take over Eliza's body, a stake pierced Klaus from behind and he lot out a cry of pain, dropping to the ground. Damon Salvatore hovered over with a glint of menace in his eyes. Staring right back at him, Klaus believed that it would probably be best that he died now since he had practically killed Eliza Petrova. However, as Damon raised the stake ready to plunge it into Klaus' heart, he was tackled to the ground by none other than Stefan Salvatore.
Seeking his final opportunity to get his vengeance on the man that had pushed a stake through Eliza Petrova's heart, Klaus grabbed the fallen stake from next to him and looked up at his malicious step-father. Pushing the pain in his body out of his mind, Klaus jumped to his feet and dived at Mikael, submersing the stake into his cold, devil-like hurt. A vengeful smirk spread across Klaus' face as Mikael screamed a surprised cry and dropped to the ground weakly. In seconds his body set into flames and Klaus watched as the person he hated most in the world burned to death before his very eyes. Though Klaus had hoped killing Mikael would take away some of his emotional pain, it hadn't. Not daring to look down at Eliza's body just yet, Klaus went back inside to find Damon glaring at Stefan.
" What did you just do!" Damon shouted, shoving his brother angrily.
" He's earned his freedom," Klaus said, forcing a small smile upon his face despite how upset he felt. Both of the Salvatore brothers turned to Klaus in suprise, as Klaus stepped up towards Stefan and compelled him, saying the words ' You are free'.
Not being able to avoid the situation anymore, Klaus turned away from Stefan and turned back to face the door. For a few moments he kept his eyes away from Eliza's body and looked straight at his hybrids. His heart was screaming at him not to look down at what he had caused but he knew he had to look. Forcing his eyes to look down, he let out a small gasp as he saw that the grey veins had not actually appeared on Eliza's skin. Despite the fact that she was unconscious, Klaus could still hear her beating heart. Surprised and genuinely happy that she was alive, he dashed over and pulled the stake from her body. Klaus had been lucky; even though he'd screamed at Mikael to kill the woman he loved, the stake had only skimmed her heart. Eliza Petrova wasn't dead.
Now feeling only guilt and anger at the fact that she had never loved him, Klaus figured he would pay her one more favour before he began the process of getting over his love for her. Carefully picking her body up and cradling her in his arms, he sped back to the Salvatore boarding house, placing her down on her bed in her room. Once he done this, he carefully took in every inch of her natural beauty and shed only a few tears, before placing one final soft and passionate kiss on her lips. Eliza Petrova, not matter how much she had told him before, had never truly loved Klaus, the heartless monster who had only ever truly cared for this one girl.
Two updates in the space of 1 days! I thought this would make up for the fact that I didn't update in three weeks and because I left you on a cliff hanger. It really would please me to tell me what you think of this chapter and how you think the next chapter is going to go! Is it really true that Eliza never loved Klaus and that it was only Mikael compelling her?
Oh and also, I'm thinking since I dislike season 4 of vampire diaries, I'm going to skip it out and skip out the ' Klaus dying' part and instead move onto The Originals story line after Kol and Finn are both dead. Is this a good idea? Would you guys read it if I skipped these parts out? It would really help if you told me!
Thanks for all the follows/favourites/reviews, hope you enjoyed this chapter! - DareToDream
