A Mixture Of Truth And Lies
1920's
Checking herself in the mirror, Eliza scanned her ruffled pink sequined dress and pinned back, wavy hair. Through her eyes, she looked decent enough, however she knew as soon as she saw Klaus he would no doubt comment on her dress and hair – it was something he'd done ever since they'd first met over six months ago. Tonight she looked forward to seeing Klaus again, just like every night really. It was strange how she never seemed to grow bored of him, how she enjoyed his company more and more each time they met together. The more she grew too knew about him, the more she began to hopelessly fall in love with him.
Hearing a low rumbling outside, Eliza turned towards the window seeing that a modern black car was awaiting her; inside of it sat Stefan Salvatore who would, as usual, be accompanying her to Klaus' house in Chicago before they all travelled to Gloria's bar together where they typically went every few nights a week. As a smile grew upon her face, Eliza cheerfully grabbed her bag, that matched her dress, and walked swiftly from her room. Rocking slightly on her heels, she grabbed the banister on the stair as she was walking down them so she didn't fall. However as she did this, the heel of her shoe snapped and Eliza went tumbling down the stairs head first. A small scream escaped her lips as she hit the stone floor with a loud thud. For a moment she laid there in a heap, trying to stop herself from crying and ruining her neatly done make up. But despite her efforts, the pain in her arm and forehead was too much to diminish the small tears that were now running swiftly down her cheeks.
" Eliza?" Stefan said with only a slight bit of worry, entering through her front door. He'd heard her scream from outside and wondered what had happened, seeing her on the floor with a deep cut across her forehead answered his question. " You're hurt,"
" My arm… and there's blood," Eliza said, looking up as she heard him come through the door. At the sound of the word blood and seeing the blood for himself, dark veins appeared under Stefan's eyes and he found himself not able to look away from her cut. " Stefan? Your eyes…" Eliza whispered with a short gasp, not knowing whether she was hallucinating or not. Had she really hit her head that hard?
" Get away from me," Stefan growled in a low voice, taking a few slow steps towards Eliza. Still his eyes were locked on the wound and he found himself imagining what it would be like just to taste her blood again, after all she had tasted delicious before.
" Stefan? Are you ok? What's wrong?" Eliza asked worriedly, slightly scared of Stefan's reaction to her wounds. She found it strange how he couldn't stop staring at her; it was as if his eyes were fixated on something he couldn't resist… He was acting like a dog drooling over a bone.
" Get away from me Eliza," Stefan repeated, taking another few steps closer towards her.
" Why Stefan? What's wrong?" Eliza asked in a slightly hysteric tone, still not quite sure whether she was truly seeing the veins underneath Stefan's eyes. Right now he appeared to look like a demon that would be described in a horror story, but of course they were only a figure of her imagination.
" Run!" Stefan ordered furiously and Eliza jumped at the sudden sound of his loud voice. Crouching down into an attacking position, Stefan sprang towards Eliza in a flash and held her face in his hands. A small scream escaped Eliza's lips as Stefan disappeared and reappeared in less than a second, for a few moments she said frozen, confused and terrified. With his eyes still fixated on the blood on her head, Stefan lowered his head down to her neck and sunk his teeth into her feeble skin. Again, Eliza let out another scream.
" Stefan!" She cried, attempting to use the little strength he had to pull him off of her. But he was too strong and didn't even seem to notice her tries to escape. Suddenly, without Eliza even seeing, the door flung open and a male figure appeared, ripping Stefan away from Eliza and throwing him into a wall. Now feeling rather weak, Eliza fell to the ground falling in and out of consciousness.
" You will forget this happened and will never touch Eliza Petrova again," A familiar voice growled in a low tone. Still whimpering, Eliza held her hand up to her neck and felt the warm liquid that was oozing out from her. As she tried to pull her mind away from the pain, only one thought echoed throughout her mind; the only answer to what this demon Stefan Salvatore could be. Vampire. As soon as she thought this word, Eliza felt herself being lifted by the figure who had just saved her. Scared that it could be another vampire, Eliza thrashed in the man's arms.
" Please don't hurt me!" She cried, not able to see the face of the man who was holding her.
" Shh sweetheart… it's only me," Klaus' familiar soothing voice whispered in her ear softy and a wave of relief flooded through Eliza as she discovered who it was. Though one thought clouded her mind; how had Klaus managed to overpower a strong vampire such as Stefan?
" V-Vampire," was all she whispered in fright, thrashing around in his arms yet again.
" Don't be afraid love. Stefan will not hurt you again nor will I ever hurt you," Klaus whispered, gripping her arms and placing them softly down by her sides.
" You're going to drink my blood!" Eliza cried in panic yet again, this time not bothering to try and escape as she was now growing weak from blood loss.
" No sweetheart, I would never do that to you unless you allowed me," Klaus said, holding her more tightly against his body. " Here drink this love, it will heal your wounds," He ordered after biting into his wrist. For a moment, Eliza hesitated staring up into his eyes to see whether he was being serious or not. After giving her a swift nod, Eliza squeezed her eyes shut and attempted to drink some of his blood. It tasted vile but Eliza could feel herself gradually healing as she took more and more blood.
" Thank you," Eliza said, after pulling away from Klaus' lips. Though she let out a gasp as Klaus' wrist began to heal itself. With a small smile, Klaus pulled her up from the floor and back onto her feet. " Stefan… he tried to kill me!" She exclaimed in horror as she saw Stefan's body unconscious on the ground.
" He was too tempted by your blood sweetheart, I doubt he meant to truly hurt you and if he did he will be receiving much more than a broken neck," Klaus promised, placing a light and soothing kiss on her soft lips.
" You're both… vampires," she whispered in shock, pulling away quickly from his kiss. " Why have you never told me?" Eliza demanded with a small frown appearing on her face.
" Because I thought you would see me as a monster…" Klaus said looking deeply into her eyes as if searching whether she did now believe this. " And now you see Stefan as a monster and won't be able to look at him the same… which is why you need to forget," Klaus whispered as if talking to himself, looking down towards the floor.
" I can't forget what's he just done to me! He's the monster, you actually helped me!" Eliza exclaimed and Klaus could still detect the hysteria in her tone. She was afraid and this was not how he wished for her to find out about vampires. Instead he should just make her forget then reveal it all to her tonight, this way she wouldn't be as frightened…
"You will forget that this happened and you were happy when it was I who came through the door instead of Stefan and took you to the bar in his car. You never fell down the stairs," Klaus compelled Eliza regretfully after ripping her bracelet full of vervaine away from her wrist and looking back up into her eyes. After Eliza gave him a slight nod, Klaus knew it had worked. This was the first time he had ever had to compel Eliza… Only a few days before he lost her for 90 years.
Eliza awoke in the morning, no longer feeling any pain. However her mind was still overridden with memories of all the times she and Klaus had spent together in the 1920's, even though many of them she had seen when Klaus had shown her them himself. Though the previous night still haunted her as well and the memory of Klaus saying the words 'kill her' created more emotional pain for her than she thought was possible. It upset Eliza that because she had said four words, that weren't even true, that hurt Klaus more than anything else could, he'd given her a death sentence. I never loved you. Those four words had been like daggers to Klaus' heart and Eliza had seen this as soon as she said them. Though she understood his pain, it still upset her that he would let Mikael kill her so easily.
What surprised her the most when she awoke in her bed in the Salvatore boarding house, was the fact that she was actually alive. When Mikael had plunged the dagger into her, Eliza believed she was truly dead. How she had actually managed to survive and get back to her room in the boarding house, was a mystery to her. Though she was very thankful for her luck and now she would be able to convince Klaus that it had only been Mikael compelling her to say those words and that she loved him; now more than ever. Eliza was still upset and angry, but after almost losing her life as well as losing Klaus, there was nothing she wanted more now than to be with him. But there was still one problem, she didn't actually know whether he was still alive. A terrifying feeling overtook her body as soon as she climbed out of her bed, fully healed. Had Mikael managed to kill Klaus?
Hearing that only Damon was home, Eliza decided that she didn't want to find out her answer from him since he was the one who wanted Klaus dead in the first place. So after dressing herself as quick as possible, she elegantly jumped from the window and ran towards Klaus' house that he had bought only a few weeks ago when they had come back to Mystic Falls. Because of the terrified feeling of not knowing whether her one true love was alive or not, she ran faster than she ever had before, arriving at Klaus' house in a matter of minutes.
As she came to the door, she didn't bother to knock and entered the house. Strangely, the house had been completely transformed since she had last seen it around a week ago and it now appeared to look like a grand palace rather than the old, dusty house she'd seen previously. Her heels echoed as she walked on the marble flooring in the main hallway; that consisted of two curved staircases that took up most of the large room.
" Klaus?" She called out in a worried voice, not bothering to waste time looking at the new decorations. For a moment there was no answer and Eliza began to panic more. This was the most likely place that Klaus would be but even if the house was vacant it didn't necessarily mean that he was dead. Niklaus Mikaelson couldn't be dead…
" What are you doing here love?" A familiar voice asked in a low tone, causing Eliza to turn her attention swiftly towards the top of the left staircase. To her high relief, there Klaus stood wearing a thin grey, tightly fitted cotton top and a pair of loose denim jeans.
" Klaus," Eliza whispered, a large smile forming on her face in relief as she darted up the staircase, throwing her arms happily around his neck. For a moment she felt his body freeze in shear surprise, before he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her more closely to his body. Cherishing the feeling of being in his arms again after what felt like years, she placed her head on his neck lovingly and closed her eyes, feeling only bliss.
" What are you doing here?" Klaus questioned again in a low, emotionless tone pulling away from the hug far too quickly for Eliza's liking.
" I came to see if you were alive… I was scared that Mikael had managed to kill you…" Eliza answered, frowning slightly as she saw that he wasn't as happy to see her as she was too see him. Though she already knew the reason for this – he thought she no longer loved him and that there relationship had all been a lie – still she thought he would at least be a little happier when seeing her.
" Don't pretend as if you care!" Klaus snapped in a dangerous tone, taking a step away from her as his hands clenched into tight fists. Instantly after he spoke, Klaus' expression softened slightly as he saw Eliza's hurt expression.
" I do care. You just believed Mikael too easily," Eliza mimicked his harsh tone, watching carefully to see how Klaus would react to this.
" He compelled you to love me Eliza, even if you now believe that you have feelings for me just because you've seen the time we spent together 90 years ago. Your love for me was never real, nor will it ever be," Klaus growled, no longer looking into her eyes. He tried not to care about her feelings as he knew the more he cared the worse it would be for himself, but he couldn't help but hurt as he saw the pain in her eyes.
" He compelled me Klaus! I tried to tell you at least twice but every time I did Mikael interrupted or hurt me so I couldn't!" Eliza exclaimed in frustration. She tried taking a step closer to Klaus but every time she did he just took another few steps away from her.
" Save me your lies! Mikael is dead now so you have nothing to fear of him, you can quit lying and carry on with your life," Klaus said and Eliza let out a gasp of surprise as she heard that Mikael was dead.
" You managed to kill him?"
" Yes," Klaus responded with not emotion, not wanting to relive the memories of what his dead step-father had done to him.
" Then why is it so hard for you to believe me Klaus? You believed him so easily! You believed that all this time I had been lying to you when the truth is, I love you Klaus and I always have! Mikael lied to you to hurt and distract you and he compelled me to go along with it so you believed him!" Eliza exclaimed, becoming further and further frustrated. Though this time Klaus considered her words for a moment; contemplating whether she was telling the truth. He wanted to believe her, but how could he after being hurt this much?
" If this is true, then why has it taken you a week to explain all of this?" Klaus growled, but this time he didn't seem as angry. Now he just seemed as if he was trying to point out flaws in the truth that he believed were lies.
" It's been a whole week?" Eliza questioned with a small frown. " I only woke up today… God the bastard put more vervain in my bloodstream than I thought," she growled in realisation after wondering how it had taken her so long to heal.
" Did he torture you?" Klaus asked, trying to keep and expressionless demeanor but Eliza could see the menace in his eyes as he asked this.
" Well if breaking both of my legs countless times, stabbing me over and over again with a stake and injecting me with vervain a couple of hundred times classes as torturing, then yes he did," Eliza said, flinching as she the memory appeared vividly in her mind.
" You should have never been involved," For a few moments there was silence. Klaus still looked unconvinced that Eliza was telling the truth and Eliza was in deep thought over how she was going to convince Klaus fully.
" Do you remember when you showed me your memories of us in the 1920's when I didn't believe that they were real?" Eliza started, hoping that her small plan would work.
" Vividly," Klaus nodded in reply, trying hard not to imagine the sweet kiss they shared afterwards.
" You overpowered my mind and showed me. If you let me, I can show you what actually happened that day…" Eliza trailed off, waiting for a reply. Again, Klaus considered this for a moment.
" You'll need a lot of strength to do that love, my mind is very difficult to overpower," Klaus said in a matter of fact tone, with a small smirk playing on his lips, though he was still trying hard not to show any emotion.
" I'll need something to drink then, I haven't eaten since I woke up," Eliza replied and almost instantly Klaus bit into his wrist and offered her it to drink.
" Here, this should give you enough strength," Eliza hesitated before biting into Klaus' wrist and taking some of his blood. Even though he tried hard not to take pleasure at this, Klaus closed his eyes at the bliss of having Eliza draw blood for him. Usually sharing blood was a very intimate thing for vampires to do.
" Ok I'm ready," Eliza said pulling away from his wrist. Stepping up closer to Klaus, she placed both hands on either side of his face as if about to kiss him. Squeezing her eyes shut, it took all of her concentration to penetrate Klaus' mind. Once this was done, she reluctantly recalled the memories of that day…
" And why has he compelled you to protect her Stefan?" Mikael questioned and Stefan hesitated for a moment before answering. Klaus had not compelled him to not tell anyone that he loved Eliza.
" Because he loves her," Stefan answered simply.
" Oh I already know that," Mikael said with a short laugh which caused Eliza to become even more worried. He already knew that if he hurt Eliza, that Klaus would come after him... which is exactly what Mikael was planning. " I'm wanting to know why he left such a weak and vulnerable vampire to protect his one true love,"
" So his bond to Klaus is so strong that he'd let his own brother die rather than handing over Klaus' love?" Mikeal questioned, watching Stefan curiously. " One twist Stefan and he's dead," Still Stefan stayed silent and for a few moments the only noise came from the oblivious human chatting with each other. " Well that's such a shame," Mikael said sarcastically, beginning to pull Damon's heart from his chest.
" Stop," Stefan growled, grabbing Mikaels arm. " Take her and leave my brother alone," Stefan ordered.
" I'm not telling you," Eliza growled this time becoming slightly frustrated. Why had he not killed her yet? Couldn't he get it over and done with rather than tormenting her about Klaus?
" And why is it that you won't tell me?"
" Because I love Klaus," Eliza stated dominantly. Those three words were very true and Eliza only wished that she had said them to Klaus before. She knew that'd he loved her and she'd never told him that she loved him to. This, she regretted now.
" How touching. You've grown to love the monster all over again even though you don't have your memories of him while you were human," Mikael said sarcastically. " Now tell me where he is before I have to hurt you,"
" No. You can hurt me but you can't hurt Klaus, I won't let you!" Eliza growled more loudly, for the first time meeting Mikael's striking blue eyes.
" How sweet that you believe that you stand a chance against me," Mikael chuckled, approaching her slowly. " Now I want you to call Klaus, tell him that I have you and that he needs to come to mystic falls to save you," Mikael compelled Eliza
" Oh I've been watching. You see Niklaus is my step-son and I have been wanting to meet you, his only love, for a very long time now. Here we are now, meeting at last. Though it surprises me that he's abandoned you here and saved his sister instead of you. One gunshot could have easily killed you, yet he abandoned you and practically left you to die," Eliza stayed silent as she heard this and looked down to the floor. She refused to believe that Klaus would just abandon her like that, there had to be a logical reason for why he hasn't come back for her. While she was looking away from the man, in a flash he was directly in front of her, only a few centimeters away. With a short gasp of surprise she took another step back.
" I do hate changing innocent humans into vampires. The last time I did was a thousand years ago. I will regret this. However I need to kill Niklaus and you are my only solution," The man said with a sad look in his eyes, he lifted a hand to stroke her cheek softly before he broke Eliza's neck in one swift movement. " Niklaus should be here any moment to see you. It's a shame you won't be awake to see it," Mikael continued speaking as Eliza's body dropped to the ground.
" But it wasn't his fault that his mother had an affair. All he needed was a loving father and then maybe he would have become more moral like Elijah. Maybe he would have killed less people. It's your fault that he's like this and now that he's unfix-able you're just going to kill him off like the cowardly, horrid father you are!" Eliza shouted more angrily this time. Now she had definitely struck a nerve but this time she had struck it a lot harder. In anger, Mikael plunged his hand hard into Eliza's chest grabbing her heart.
" You know nothing about my family, your just a weak abomination who shouldn't be defending a monster like Klaus,"
" He is not a monster. You just believe he is because your wife cheated on you and he came because of it. You punished him for your own wife's mistakes," Eliza spoke quickly, taking big gasps of air as she spoke. The pain Mikael caused was excruciating, but she had now cried so much that there seemed to be no more tears left and now she knew the truth about Mikael she felt stronger than ever before.
" Now I see why Niklaus cares for you so much. You claim to see good in a monster who should never have been born. How foolish you are to believe that Niklaus can be the good person you want him to be," Mikael said, replacing his angered state with a calm demeanor and pulling his hand out of Eliza's chest.
" Believe what you want Mikael, it's sad how you know yourself that it is your fault that Klaus appears to be such a monster," Mikael's teeth clenched as Eliza said this, but instead of hurting her again he only clenched his fists.
" Wakey, wakey little miss Mikaelson," Damon's voice said with a light chuckle. Eliza groaned as her body lifted from unconsciousness and the now familiar pain hit her body yet again.
" You've done enough to hurt me, please no more," Eliza begged since still here body hadn't healed from all of the wounds made by the stake.
" As you wish. However I do need to do one final thing," Mikael announced, appearing next to Damon. Both of them smirked at the same time as Mikael approached Eliza, grabbing her head roughly and forcing her to look into his eyes. " You will tell Niklaus that you do not love him and never have when I indicate to do so. If he says that he doesn't believe you, you repeat this until he does," Mikael compelled, the smirk not leaving his face.
" You monster," Eliza spat in his face weakly before Mikael moved away from her.
" Vervain please Damon," Mikael ordered, casually wiping the saliva from his face. Straight away Damon obeyed, handing Mikael a few syringes filled with a clear substance that was laced with vervain. Without hesitation, Mikael stuck two of syringes into both of Eliza's arms and forced the vervain into her blood stream. Crying out in pain, Eliza thrashed around as her arms began to feel as if they were on fire.
" Now you cannot be compelled by Klaus so he can see whether you're telling the truth. I cannot wait to see his reaction when you lie and tell him you never loved him. It will be so heart breaking to see his pain," Mikael added with a smirk, just as she drifted into unconsciousness again.
" Nik," Eliza said through tears, trying to ignore the pain in her body. " Nik he's com-" She began to speak quickly at a few moments of silence before she was stopped by Mikael sticking the stake slightly into the part of her body where her heart was beating. Instead of finishing her sentence she let out a shrill scream that caused Klaus to wince.
" It's true Klaus..." She whispered through cries, looking Klaus straight in the ears. " I don't love you. I never have. Now I know the truth..." Excruciating pain ripped itself through Klaus' heart as those words escaped Eliza's lips. For a few moments Klaus stood frozen as the pain spread throughout his body. Eliza had never loved him, were the words that now constantly echoed in his minds. Each time he thought of them it felt like she was plunging a stake in his heart. A few small tears welled up in his eyes and one by one they ran swiftly down his cheeks.
" Now then Niklaus. Now you know the truth, you can decide," Mikael said, enjoying seeing Klaus in pain. " You either come outside and face me or I will kill her," He threatened, tightening his grip he had on the stake he was holding.
" Kill her," Klaus growled after a few minutes of silence.
Reopening her eyes, Eliza shuddered slightly to shake off the memories she never wanted to remember again. As her eyes locked again on Klaus, she saw that small tears were running from his closed eyes. Once she removed her hands from either side of his face, Klaus opened his eyes. All that was visible in Klaus' eyes was the guilt that he now felt for ever disbelieving Eliza. Though he still felt anger towards Mikael for hurting him so much, Klaus had already taken out his revenge on him and now needed to fix the problems that were right in front of him. He hadn't believed Eliza when she had been telling the truth all along…
" I'm never going to let anyone hurt you again…" Klaus growled, pulling Eliza back in for a hug swiftly and kissing her on her head softly. Eliza was slightly surprised for a moment but was happy now to see that Klaus finally believed her. " I told him to kill you… you were defending me against him. You stood up against him…" Klaus carried on muttering to himself in disbelief.
" He was planning on killing me anyway. I don't think he quite ever realised that he was the monster he believed you were," Eliza spoke softly, burying her head into the crook of Klaus' neck.
" I'm so sorry sweetheart…" Klaus whispered into her ear, his grip tightening around her as images of Mikael torturing Eliza appeared in his mind again. " You should of never been hurt like that. This is all my fault,"
" It's fine… I just wish you had believed me sooner," Eliza replied.
" I'm a fool for ever believing that Mikael was capable of telling the truth," Klaus growled angrily at himself.
" I would have believed him too if he'd compelled you to say you didn't love me, so I guess we're equal on that," Eliza tried to comfort him, as she could see how much he was killing himself on the inside for not believing her. Pulling away from the hug, Klaus caressed her cheek softly and stared deeply into her eyes. " At least one good thing did come out of this; all my memories of you have come back,"
" Which means I should return this to you," Klaus said, unclasping the locket he wore from around his neck. Carefully moving her hair away from her neck, Klaus softly fastened the locket around Eliza's neck and Eliza shivered slightly at his touch.
" I remember this…" Eliza said with a smile. " Inside there's a picture of the both of us kissing that, that man took. You looked as if you were about to kill him for disturbing us at first but then you saw how nice the picture was," She explained with a small chuckle as she recalled the memory.
" I love you so much sweetheart," Klaus whispered into her ear from behind, pulling her around to face him and catching her in a loving embrace. " I don't know what I would have done if you had died because of me…"
" I love you too," Eliza said with a small giggle as Klaus planted his lips onto Eliza's softly.
" You're never leaving my side again love," Klaus told her jokingly as he pulled away from the kiss.
" I can live with that. I missed you during these past few weeks," Eliza responded happily.
" Good, because I missed you too," Klaus said, planting his usual signature smirk upon his face again before kissing Eliza again passionately. After all of this silly teen drama, Klaus and Eliza were finally in heaven with each other after 90 years of hell on earth…
Very lovey dovey chapter haha :) I figured I'd write a happy ending chapter since there has been so much drama in previous chapters! Oh and the fact that I won't be able to update this week since I'm away with no wifi, but I will definitely be updating while I'm on holiday so I'll try to post on of those updates on Saturday/sunday. Hope you liked this very cheesy chapter! Sorry I used some previous writing from other chapters but I wanted everything to make sense.
Oh and the first flashback to the 1920's was added because may of you were confused about how Eliza was still alive if she had Mikaels blood in her system. Well now you know that she actually had Klaus' blood in her system not Mikaels, so she is part of Klaus' line of vampires.
Please review on this chapter to tell me what you think! Updates soon :) - DareToDream
