Resurrected Family
Eliza sank down on the sofa in the living room trying to diminish the emotions that were beginning to overwhelm her. She had always been over emotional, even as a human, and being a vampire only heightened this. It angered her that she got upset at the stupidest of moments; it made her look weak. Yet now she was stronger than she ever had been before - emotionally and physically. Tonight, however, she had lost it. Stefan had been her best friend for a century and now he seemed to not care at all. She knew whatever harsh comment he threw at her was the ripper talking, but she was beginning to feel as if the old Stefan was never going to return. These were the times she missed Lexi Branson the most.
" I miss you Lexi," Eliza whispered, oddly knowing that Lexi would somewhere and somehow be watching her right now and groaning at her weakness. Lexi was never one to sympathize with Eliza, Lexi only comforted her when she needed it. Right now would be a moment where she didn't need it because she shouldn't get upset about Stefan. This had happened before to Stefan and he'd managed to pull through, Eliza had seen this for herself. But that was when he had Lexi to help him, and now Lexi was dead because of Damon. Unable to hide her tears, Eliza silently cried into her hands, mourning over her dead best friend yet again. That was until a familiar arm wrapped around her shoulder and she was pulled into the person's chest.
" Don't cry love," Was all Klaus said as he kissed Eliza comfortingly on the forehead and took her carefully into his arms. He knew full well that his dinner guests were listening to the conversation between him and Eliza, but Klaus didn't care.
" I'm sorry, I'm being stupid." Eliza said after a few moments, wiping the tears away from her slightly reddened cheeks.
" Are you ok sweetheart?" Klaus questioned as she pulled herself up into a standing position, leaving him sat on the sofa by himself.
" I'm fine, honestly. Just concentrate on getting your coffin back," Eliza assured him firmly, placing a quick kiss on Klaus' lips to convince him she was telling the truth; though really she was lying, she wouldn't be ok until Stefan was back to normal. Klaus' blue eyes locked with hers for a moment while he tried to decipher whether she was telling the truth, then he nodded and lead her back through into the dining area where Stefan, Damon and Elijah were awaiting there return.
" Oh good the baby has finally stopped crying," Stefan snapped with a smirk as Eliza and Klaus returned to their seats. Now that she had placed a brick wall around her mind, she managed to ignore Stefans comment and instead rolled her eyes. I have to be strong for Nik, is what she repeated to herself as Stefan said these words.
" Stefan where is the lovely Elena tonight?" Elijah said, quickly changing the subject. However he was obviously oblivious to the fact that Elena was a touchy subject at the moment. In annoyance, Stefan's eyes snapped over to Elijah and his face turned stone cold.
" I don't know. Ask Damon." Stefan said bluntly and Elijah frowned in confusion. Disrupting the awkward silence, Klaus burst out laughing and earned yet another glare from Stefan.
" I'm sorry, you missed so much Elijah. Uh - there was trouble in paradise." Klaus said while chuckling and Eliza had to stifle back a laugh at the awkwardness of the situation.
" One more word about Elena and this dinner is over," Stefan growled angrily, however Klaus continued chuckling to himself.
" I'm guessing poor Elena is on the do not discuss pile considering she's another one who's decided to abandon Stefan," Eliza said, deciding she was going to take a snap at Stefan. If he was going to hurt her then what was wrong in she doing the same to him? In reply Stefan growled warningly.
" You're probably right," Klaus agreed with her.
" Yeah," Damon muttered as well.
" It's just the allure of the Petrova doppelganger, still so strong. What do you say, brother? Shall we tell them about Tatia?" Eliza stiffened as Klaus spoke these words but Klaus didn't seem to notice. Tatia was and will always be a touchy subject with Eliza, as still she wasn't fully convinced that Klaus only loved her because she resembled her best qualities.
" Now why discuss matters that are long resolved?" Elijah responded, seeing that the subject was making Eliza uncomfortable.
" Well, given their shared affection for both Elena and Katerina, I think our guests might be curious to learn about the originator of the Petrova line," Klaus said, his smirk widening. Still he hadn't noticed Eliza's reaction to this, which was strange considering they were usually in tune with each other.
" Well we're not going anyway Elijah. So please do tell," Damon said with mock enthusiasm.
" When our family first settled here, there was a girl named Tatia, she was an exquisite beauty. Every boy of age desired to be her suitor, even though she'd had a child by another man. And none loved her more than Niklaus." Eliza tensed even more and once he had finished, Elijah turned to her giving her a sympathetic look.
" I'd say there was one who loved her at least as much," Klaus replied, taking a sip of his drink.
" Wait a minute, so you both loved the same girl?" Stefan said in surprise.
" Our mother was a very powerful witch. She sought to end our feud over Tatia and so she took her. Klaus and I would later learn that it was Tatia's blood that we consumed in the wine on the night where our mother performed the spell which turned us into vampires. Tatia wouldn't make a decision between the two of us, so for a time Niklaus and I... grew estranged. Harsh words were traded, we even came to blows, didn't we, brother?" Elijah said, quickly trying to move the subject away from Tatia. Elijah couldn't understand how Klaus was oblivious to the fact that this was hurting Eliza.
" But in the end we realised the sacred bond of family," Klaus concluded, for the first time looking at Eliza who was sat silently and not looking as if she was paying attention. Empathy flooded Klaus' expression as he realised that Eliza was uncomfortable and he quickly took her hand into his, squeezing it in reassurance.
" Family above all," Elijah announced and both he and Klaus raised there glasses before taking a quick drink.
" Family above all," Klaus repeated. " And then of course I found my beautiful Eliza, who by far the better choice. I suggest the two of you bear that in mind before continually feuding over my doppelganger," A small smile formed on Eliza's face as he said this and Klaus knew instantly he was already forgiven. While the two were distracted with each other, Damon pulled out his phone and read the text Bonnie had sent him.
" So, why don't we move this evening along and discuss the terms of this proposal?" Elijah suggested, after noticing that Damon had recieved a text.
" That's very simple. Klaus gets his coffin back, in exchange, he and the Original extended family leave Mystic Falls forever. Me, Stefan, and Elena live happily ever after. No grudges," Damon replied. But Eliza knew instantly that Klaus would never agree to this because she wanted to stay in Mystic Falls to help Stefan and Klaus would never leave her behind, Klaus wanted Elena's blood for more Hybrids and he'd only just finished building the perfect home here.
" That deal sounds fair, brother." Elijah said, narrowing his eyes as he waited for Klaus' answer.
" I don't think you understand, Elena's doppelgänger blood insures that I will always have more hybrids to fight those that oppose me. I will never leave her behind," Klaus stated.
" Plus I'm not leaving Elena behind under both of your protection when she's the only family I have left. She'll end up being killed because of your feuding or Stefan will lose control again! The two of you are deluded if you think you can protect her, there's always going to be people out there trying to kill her who are much stronger than you," Eliza said, raising her voice slightly as she began to get more angry with the Salvatore brothers.
" I'm going to get some air," Damon announced suddenly, standing up from the table and walking out of the door. Neither of the Salvatore brothers were pleased with Eliza's small speech even though they both knew in some ways she was very correct.
" Let me deal with this," Elijah told Klaus as Klaus stepped forward to go after Damon. All of them were stood up from the table now and the atmosphere was very tense. Leaving Elena in the do not discuss pile had definitely failed, and only now did Eliza realize that after all this time she's spent in Mystic Falls, she hadn't actually managed to become properly friends with Elena... Yet Eliza would still protect her until death. Klaus and Elijah were very correct; family above all.
" Well I guess the only reason why you brought us here tonight, Klaus, was to drive a wedge between me and my brother," Stefan commented in annoyance, breaking the silence that had overtaken the room.
" Oh no, you're doing that well enough on your own. Because of Elena, you're gonna lose your brother and you'll only have yourself to blame. Eliza's right, you really have lost everyone Stefan," Klaus said, his smirk widening. Nothing pleased him more now than for Stefan to hurt, he deserved it after everything he's done to Eliza. Stefan was about to retort to this comment before he was interrupted by Damon and Elijah re-entering the house.
" What do you say, Klaus? It's time for you to put something on the table. We've made our offer, now you counter." Damon said, ignoring the tension between Stefan and Klaus.
" Okay. I offer Elena's future happiness. You see, what she needs right now is to be rid of you lot. And to fall in love with a human, maybe that nice football player, you know the blond one?" Klaus suggested and Eliza hid her frown. She knew Elena well enough to know that she would never want to be with anyone but Stefan - well the old Stefan. This deal would definitely not work.
" Matt Donovhan? Really?" Eliza commented with a small frown, causing Klaus to chuckle at her.
" Yeah, why not? They'll marry, live a long and fruitful life, and pop out a perfect family." Klaus said with a small shrug, turning his attention back to Damon and Stefan.
" And continue the Petrova bloodline. Every few hundred years, you'll have a new doppelgänger to drain and never run out of hybrids, right Klaus?" Stefan said, looking satisfied with himself for working out Klaus' plan.
" Consider it a small return on my investment in her well being. See after you hand me back the coffin, I'll ensure her safety for the rest of her natural life, you know it's what's best for her," Klaus replied, approaching Stefan. Quickly, Eliza followed him, ready to stop any fight that was about to happen. She knew it was only a matter of time before one of them snapped. " So what do you say Stefan? Do we have a deal?" Stefan took a few further steps towards
" What are you doing?" Damon asked in shock as Stefan held out his hand to Klaus. With a smirk forming on his face, Klaus took Stefan's and shook it as if they were sealing the deal.
" Nice try Klaus, but no deal," Stefan said. Everything after that was a blur. In seconds Klaus had broken Stefan's arm and one of his legs, and Stefan cried out in pain. Then Klaus shoved Stefan into the fire and a deafening scream echoed around the room as Stefan began to burn.
" What the hell are you doing!?" Eliza shouted, grabbing Klaus' arm and trying to break his grip from Stefan. However, Klaus' mind was clouded with fury and in a burst of anger he threw Eliza away from him and into a wall where she collided with a cabinet filled with glass that smashed to pieces as she hit it. Immediately, Elijah rushed over and helped Eliza up from the floor as she winced in pain from the cuts she had gained from the glass. Worriedly and apologetically, Klaus sent her a look that said ' I'm sorry'. " Let him go," Eliza growled again, with Elijah's arm still around her. However, he flashed over towards Damon as Damon prepared to defend his brother.
" Bring me my coffin or I'll burn him alive," Klaus growled angrily.
" I'll go get it," Damon gave in, hiding the worry from his face and exiting the mansion.
" Go with him brother and keep him honest. When you return I will keep my word and hand over our family," Klaus promised, releasing Stefan from the fireplace as Elijah too left.
" Go ahead and kill me Klaus, I know you will when he hands over the coffin," Stefan spat as his now charcoal skin began to heal itself.
" You really have given up haven't you?" Klaus commented and Eliza made her way over to the two men.
" He's not killing anybody Stefan. I wouldn't let him." Eliza said firmly and Klaus turned to her with an apologetic expression.
" Are you ok sweetheart?" He asked worriedly, his eyes scanning over her body. His expression dropped slightly as he saw the marks on her soft skin.
" I'm fine," She assured him, both of theirs eyes meeting. " Just remember your promise,"
" I won't break my word," Klaus responded instantly, kissing her softly on the forehead in reassurance. Stefan rolled his eyes at the two but didn't dare move as he knew that if he did, Klaus would burn him yet again. Suddenly everyones attention turned back to the door where Elijah and Damon re-entered the mansion and Klaus' face twisted in confusion.
" Elijah... Why haven't you left?" Klaus questioned, wrapping an arm securely around Eliza's waist and pulling her to his side. The touch of their two bodies calmed him. But something was definitely wrong.
" Where are you manners brother? You forgot dessert!" Elijah said in mock enthusiasm, glancing over at Eliza for a moment and sending her an apologetic look. Afraid and curious to what Elijah had done, Eliza gripped onto Klaus' arm that was locked securely around her. One of the servant women, who had early served the meal, walked through casually with a plate in her hand. On the plate lay the silver dagger, the only weapon that could kill an original. Eliza gasped.
" What have you done?" Klaus growled, horrified as he saw the dagger on the plate. Again, his grip tightened.
" What have you done? See I've learned not to trust your vulgar promises," Elijah said. " We're doing this on my terms now," Eliza was growing more afraid b y the second and worriedly Klaus pushed Eliza behind him, trying to hide her away from the view of everyone. However this would never work as she was only a head shorter than Klaus, meaning that she was just visible over his shoulder.
" Long time no see brother," A man that Eliza had never met, but she recognised to be Kol from the drawing Klaus had done of him, entered the room with Klaus' same smirk planted upon his face. Though in the midst of all the humour in his expression, there was also anger and vengeance. Kol hadn't even acknowledged Eliza yet and already she was afraid of him - though this may have been partly down to the things she had heard about Kol.
" Kol," Klaus said and Eliza instantly heard the fear in his voice. Both of them moved backward and Eliza clung onto his arm, knowing that soon someone was going to kill her. Tonight would be her final night that she would be alive. Elijah had been lying all along. He'd deceived her and played her; he never wanted to save Klaus, he wanted his family back then get revenge on Klaus by killing her. Suddenly, in a flash, another of the brothers appeared and stabbed a dagger through Klaus' hand as Klaus threw an arm in front of him to defend himself. Another gasp escaped Eliza's lips as Klaus cried in pain.
" Finn don't!" Klaus screamed. Using his unhurt arm to grab Eliza, Klaus attempted to rush out of the room in order to protect them both. But they were both stopped by a familiar blonde figure with a satisfied smile on her face.
" Rebekah?" Klaus said, pushing Eliza out of the way of danger as Rebekah stabbed a dagger into Klaus' chest.
" This is for our mother," She growled angrily, the menace showing in her once innocent eyes. After colliding with the wall, a smirking Kol approached Eliza and locked his arms around her waist from behind, dragging her up and directly in front of Klaus. After being stabbed with the dagger, Klaus had fallen back into Finn who now had him restrained.
" You're free to go, this is family business." Elijah told Stefan and Damon who had been watching the whole time. Oddly, Stefan looked worriedly at Eliza before he left through the door and this shocked Eliza beyond belief. Didn't he hate her?
" Let her go." Klaus growled instantly as he spotted Kol's hands on Eliza's waist and tears running down her eyes.
" Oo, so protective Nik. So this is the girl I'm told you've fallen madly in love with? Well I have to admit she is very delicious," Kol commented, moving his body closer to Eliza's teasingly and purposely breathing on her neck. Klaus growled menacingly at this and struggled to break free from Finns grasp.
" I like what you've done with the place Nik," Rebekah commented, not too sure whether she wanted her old best friend to get hurt or not yet. Picking up a decorative vase, she threw it across the room at full force and it smashed against the wall, it's pieces flying everywhere.
" I wanted it to be a place for all of us. A place we could call home. A place we could all be a family. We'd never have to be alone again," Klaus spoke softly, his vulnerability showing within him. Eliza locked eyes with him for a second and she mouthed the words ' I love you' too him for what would probably be the final time.
" None of us will be alone," Elijah announced.
" You're staying behind," Finn added.
" We're leaving you, after I've killed that doppelganger wench which would mean no more hybrids for you," Rebekah said, tilting her head to the side as she studied Klaus' reaction.
" And once I've had my fun with this beautiful, tasty lady and killed her. Don't forget about that," Kol added, smirking as he saw Klaus' thunderous reaction to this. A few growls ripped through Klaus' throat and his eyes flashed a golden colour to indicate that he soon would be angry enough to turn into a wolf and free himself. The two brothers, Finn and Klaus, again began to struggle as Klaus tried to break free using all of the strength he had within him.
" Just kill me and get it over with," Eliza spoke for the first time, her voice a scared whisper. " You want revenge on Klaus? All you have to do is kill me, it's that simple!" She raised her voice this time and endless amounts of tears spilled from her eyes.
" Not until I've had my fun love... be patient. I'm very good in bed," Kol whispered in her ear, loud enough for Klaus to here.
" I will rip you from limb to limb if you dare lay a finger on her," Klaus threatened, his jaw clenched tightly in menace.
" Stop with this," Elijah ordered. " No harm will come to the girl, she is free," A frown formed on Eliza's face as Elijah said this and she stared at him in shock. Surely he was joking? " She's been through enough and doesn't deserve to die because of this pathetic excuse of a man," Her frown deepened as he continued. Why on earth did he want to keep her safe? It was hardly like they were family. Taking a place beside Kol and Eliza, Elijah looked at Eliza again sympathetically.
" She'll go running back to him the second we leave Elijah," Rebekah added. She'd already concluded that she didn't want Eliza hurt but she knew Eliza well enough to know that she wouldn't easily leave Klaus behind. But Rebekah believed that Klaus wasn't even close to been good enough to deserve a woman like Eliza. Eliza was everything Rebekah wanted to be.
" If you hurt her or run I will hunt you all down," Klaus threatened again, no longer bothering to try and break free.
" Then you'll become everything you hate. Our father." Elijah said, glaring back at his half brother.
" I'm the hybrid! I can't be killed! I have nothing to fear from you!" Klaus shouted.
" Do not lie Niklaus. If we take her away, you lose the one person who's ever managed to see you as a good person. You'll be all alone, broken." Elijah said, not bothering to raise his voice. Instantly, Klaus fell silent as he knew Elijah was true. He couldn't lose Eliza, not again. However, letting her live a better life where she would be free of danger was always better than her being killed because of him...
" And you fear that coffin," Rebekah added. The conversation was then interrupted by the front door opening yet again. This time, another female figure walked in who Eliza didn't recognise. She had the same coloured hair as Rebekah but reached below her waist and many of her and Rebekah features were the same, though she wore a very ancient, worn out, blue dress which indicated she had been away from the world for a very long time.
" Mother?" Rebekah gasped, her eyes widening in happiness as she saw her mother stand before them all.
" Let the girl go," Was the first thing she said, keeping her eyes locked on Klaus. Instantly, Kol let Eliza go and she moved away from him, hugging her body and shaking from fear. Slowly, Elijah moved with her, trying to keep his promise that he would keep her safe. Unable to now do anything, Eliza watched the scene carefully, seeing the fear that was now plastered upon Klaus' face as his mother approached him carefully. " Look at me!" She ordered. " Do you know why I'm here?"
" You're here to kill me." Klaus concluded, with a single tear running jaggedly down his cheek. Eliza watched in horror, knowing that in many ways Klaus deserved this after everything he'd done to his family. But she knew his actions meant well, and she didn't want him to die.
" Niklaus you are my son and I fogrive you," Everybody stood in the room was shocked as their mother spoke these words. Relief flooded through Eliza as she heard this and she repressed the smile that was beginning to form on her face. " I want us to be a family again,"
" Thank you," Klaus whispered gratefully, glancing quickly at Eliza to check that she was unharmed and that Kol was no longer anywhere near her. After seeing that she was perfectly safe with Elijah there to protect her, he turned his attention back to his mother.
" And I also give my blessing to the two of you Niklaus. Eliza I must thank you for keeping my son under control and for placing yourself in danger to protect him. I am very grateful. I am Esther and it is wonderful to finally meet you," Esther said, for the first time turning her attention towards Eliza. The two women smiled at each other, but it greatly shocked Eliza that Esther was thanking her and speaking to her as if she was family. Though it greatly pleased her, that she had been accepted into the Mikaelson family.
Really hope you enjoyed this chapter! I must say I absolutely love writing Kol's lines! I've been so excited for him to make his first appearance! He will definitely be flirting a lot with Eliza to annoy Klaus, so that should feature in the next update! I'm sorry that not much happened in the first part of the chapter, most of it followed the general TVD story line but I don't think there is anything I could have changed. Please review and tell me what you think about Kol/Eliza, Elijah/Eliza, and Kliza ( Thank you totalRandum for the brilliant couple name!) moments. Thank you for the continued support and more updates soon! - DareToDream xx
