The Ritual
Darkness. Oblivion. Pain. Nothingness. Death. I fear them. I fear them for myself, for him. All are associated with the inevitable. Someday we all will die. Someday we all will be plunged into all of those things. It's only a matter of time; long or short it will always happen. My time came early - too early. Now I see my fears - I face them with no amount of bravery. Is this what death truly feels like? Lost, with no place to go. Trapped in a pit of darkness. Nobody to see or hear you. I have heard before that death is but the next greatest adventure. But where is the adventure when there is no place to go?
Tonight. Tonight it happened.
" I never knew you could play piano, sweetheart," Klaus' voice echoed over her absent-minded playing on the beautiful ivory keys. For a while Eliza had been sat - alone for the first time in a while - tinkling on the beautiful, shiny black grand piano playing a song she only just remembered from her childhood. Her mother had been a great pianist and ever since her death Eliza hadn't touched a piano since. But the allure of this very expensive one was too strong for her not to resist. Especially since she felt as if her true thoughts were trapped inside her mind. She couldn't speak them, so she played them instead.
" My mother taught me from a young age, Annabelle always hated it but it became one of my passions. In my first home we had an old piano that my father had built especially for my mother, it was in desperate need of tuning but it worked all the same. It was destroyed long ago though, and I haven't really touched a piano since," Eliza explained in an angelic tone - the one she only used when speaking about her family. Family had always been of a great importance to Eliza. She'd lost her family and now the only family she had left had betrayed her.
" Your playing is outstanding my love. Do play me the first one again," Klaus asked, taking a seat on the chair by the piano and gazing at her in wonder.
" I Giorni?" Eliza asked, for the first time glancing at him and taking her eyes off of the pristine white keys.
" If that is what the first one you played it called then yes, it is my favourite by far," Klaus commented, a genuine smile growing pleasantly upon his face.
" You've been listening to me play?" Eliza asked, returning her attention to the piano and placing her fingers on exactly the right keys, ready to start the piano piece that was, too, her favourite.
" I was intrigued, love, since none of my family can play," Klaus answered, waiting intently for her to begin. Once she started, she seemed to drift off into her own little world and forget everything around her. All of her worries, troubles, regrets, they all disappeared - wondering off into oblivion. Klaus watched her with intent eyes, admiring how she seemed to get lost in the sound of the stunning piece. He didn't think he'd ever heard a piece more beautiful and it helped that the only beauty he saw was the one playing it.
However, by the end of the piece the pleasant moment was lost. When the piece sadly ended, Klaus frowned as he saw small tears crawling down Eliza's flushed cheeks and he worriedly made his way over to her, wrapping his arms softly around her. Without speaking another word, Eliza buried her head into Klaus' chest and let all of the cries out that she had been holding back for the past week since the ball. It was physically hurting her now that she couldn't tell him. She wanted to tell him. She wanted to save him like he always saves her. But she was only a weak vampire who couldn't withstand a witches spell. Tonight was the night of the full moon, tonight the ritual would happen.
" What's the matter sweetheart? You've looked frightened all week," Klaus asked her softly, holding her body tightly to his and stroking her luscious brown hair softly. It pained him to see her so upset.
" I-I..." She tried to force the words from her mouth, but she couldn't no matter how hard she tried, meaning she only cried harder.
" What is it that you're trying to tell me? Something is bothering you," Klaus urged her to try and speak since he desperately wanted to help her - to relieve her from her pain.
" I-I'm just overwhelmed with everything that's happening... There's just so many problems..." Eliza whispered into his chance, trying to hint towards the topic as much as possible, but Klaus seemed more confused than anything. Hoping to tell him without actually speaking the words, she looked up from his chest and he wiped her tears away with his thumb, stroking her cheeks.
" If this is about the dress that I gave to Caroline..." Klaus began and Eliza let out a humourless laugh through her tears, shaking her head. Klaus stared at her with a deep frown on his face, trying to decipher why she was acting so strange.
" If only..."
" Then what is it love?" Klaus asked. Darkness was already beginning to cover the day sky and Eliza found herself staring at the window for a moment at the full moon that was only just appearing.
" I need to leave... I'm going to find Elena... I'm sorry," She whispered enigmatically, pulling away from his arms and standing up. Klaus' frown deepened and he stood up with her, placing his arms around her again.
" Not before you tell me what is bothering you," Klaus said, his voice taking a more demanding turn. There was no doubt that Esther would come for Eliza if she didn't arrive there herself, which would only create more trouble. She wanted to say goodbye to Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah before she left and she needed to speak to Elena so she could understand why Elena agreed to do all of this.
" I-I can't Klaus... Just... Just let me go..." Eliza whispered, her voice sounding more broken by the second.
" Tell me what is wrong," Klaus demanded this time, his expression becoming laced with anger.
" I love you, so much Niklaus," Eliza told him, blatantly ignoring the question. As a distraction, she placed one final soft lingering kiss on his lips, cherishing the small moment, before running towards the front door of the house, hoping he wouldn't follow her. However, before she could leave a figure blocked her path and she accidentally ran into him.
" What has Niklaus done to you?" Was Elijah's first question as he looked down at the crying girl, who he now greatly admired, with anxious eyes.
" Nothing... Nik hasn't done anything," Eliza breathed, pausing for only a second. Luckily, she saw that Klaus wasn't behind her meaning that he hadn't followed. He'd respected her wishes of letting her go, but that didn't mean he wouldn't find out what was going on. Klaus had already left to the Salvatore house to find out.
" You are crying Eliza which indicates something has happened, something is wrong. You wouldn't tell Niklaus..." Elijah said, his tone raised and not at all soft like Klaus' had been.
" I can't Elijah... I can't..." Eliza whispered, suddenly throwing her arms around his neck and hugging him hard. Again, to distract him, she placed a light kiss on his cheek before whispering " Tell Rebekah she was the best friend I had," in his ear and leaving the room as fast as she could.
Instantly, once she had left the house, Eliza headed towards the Salvatore boarding house hoping that Elena would be there, but before she entered she heard Klaus' booming voice demanding to know what was going on. Knowing that it would be only harder to leave if she saw him again and he probably wouldn't let her go, she instead headed towards Elena's house and Elena was just leaving through the front door.
" Why did you do this?" Eliza asked, swiftly pulling Elena away from the house and towards the edge of the woods only a little bit down the road from where Elena lived.
" Eliza... I'm really sorry for everything you've done and I'm grateful for everything you did for me, believe me. But Klaus has done terrible things to us all and you hated him once too. He deserves to die," Elena said, her voice sounding firm yet slightly sympathetic. Not without great strength, Eliza held back the anger she was currently feeling towards Elena.
" Nobody deserves to die Elena, nobody. Stefan has done terrible things. Damon has done terrible things, yet if someone was trying to kill them you would risk everything to save them both. After everything I've done for you Elena, I truly believed that you wouldn't betray me like this. You have more qualities from Katherine than you think. I admit that I've done terrible things too, but I'm going to die as well. I'm going to die..." Eliza whispered as if only realising what was going to happen to her.
" You don't deserve to die Eliza... but it's the only way to kill Klaus. Esther was going to force me anyway, just like she's forcing you. I'm sorry, you are the one person I would save," Elena said, but Eliza only shook her head at Elena's selfishness. This girl claimed to be selfless, but even the kindest have horrid qualities.
" This is my parting goodbye to you Elena. Tell Stefan that despite everything I still love him as my best friend," Eliza said, and as she said this she saw a distant figure approaching. Though she couldn't properly see who it was, Eliza knew it was one of the original brothers. Not Klaus. Not Elijah. Not Kol. But Finn. After taking a deep breath and trying to inhale some bravery, Eliza stepped away from Elena and walked towards Finn.
" It's time to leave. Don't bother trying to escape," Finn ordered, his demeanor looking blank like it always did. In many ways Finn was very similar to Stefan - very brooding - but the other side had seemingly broken him, just like it could break her.
" You have my word," Time to go die. Eliza thought sarcastically to herself, before running with Finn and trying to hold back every ounce of her fear.
" Something is wrong Niklaus, we should never have let her leave the house," Elijah talked down the phone while driving towards Elena's house in his brand new car. Ever since Eliza had kissed him on the cheek, he'd been left with a strange tingling feeling in his body. But ever since she'd left, neither Niklaus nor Elijah had been able to find her again. Both of them were extremely worried and Klaus was mad at himself for letting her leave his arms. For the first time since Mikael had returned, he was genuinely afraid.
" I know. The Salvatore's didn't seem to know anything productive, or so they said. Oh, and I did discover that our dear sister slept with Damon Salvatore last night," Klaus said, his tone lowering in frustration. With a deep frown, Elijah moved the phone to his other hand, gritting his teeth, before putting the phone back up to his ear.
" I'm going to find Elena, she more than anyone should have the information we need," Elijah replied, taking a left turn to arrive on Elena's street.
" Good, brother. I'm currently with Caroline who is obviously trying to distract me, she should no doubt give me some information soon," Klaus answered.
" So, even though, your girlfriend could be in imminent danger, you decide to spend your time with the woman who Eliza has already expressed her hatred for," Elijah said, casting his mind back to the conversation Klaus and Eliza had, had about Caroline only a matter of days ago. Even though Eliza and Caroline had only recently met, the two girls hatred for each other was visible.
" I will do anything to save my girlfriend Elijah, and if fraternizing with the enemy is what I have to do then I will do so. Have fun with Elena," Klaus said, before swiftly hanging up.
Sighing deeply, Elijah put the phone down and stopped his car directly outside Elena's house. For a moment he just sat there, staring into space and hoping that no harm had come to Eliza. Though he didn't fully know it yet, his affections for Eliza were growing day by day - though he hadn't yet reached the point of loving her. Eliza was Klaus' and Elijah knew that if anyone stole her away from him, Klaus would kill them. But Elijah couldn't deny his admiration for her; she possessed all the qualities - and much more - that he had spent years wishing he had again, and even though she was a vampire she rarely let her demons overcome her. Knowing that one way or another he was at least going to attempt to help her, Elijah climbed out of the car and knocked on Elena's front door.
" Elijah," The sound of her heartbeat pounded through Elijah's ears indicating that she was afraid, already he could sense that she knew something.
" Elena. I don't mean to intrude, but I was hoping you might accompany me," Elijah said, keeping his tone calm and light as if nothing was wrong. One highly productive aspect of being a vampire was that one's acting skill was heightened. This had come to great use for Elijah over the years, especially in front of his brother. " I want to show you something,"
The drive to his previous hometown a thousand years ago didn't take too long, but the car journey was very silent. All along the way Elijah could hear Elena's heart pounding against her chest and it was beginning to annoy him. The more time he wasted, the more time Eliza was missing. But even though he was growing more impatient, he knew that he had to have a gradual attack before he could truly discover. Then he could save Eliza himself.
Stopping the car in the middle of the woods where his hometown once stood, Elijah stepped out of the car with Elena following him.
" I forgot how much I missed this land," Elijah commented, looking around and banishing the thoughts away about how things were so different back then.
" I can't even imagine what it must have been like a thousand years ago," Elena replied.
" Well your school was built over an Indian village," Elijah said, walking casually over to the boulders where he knew the tunnels underneath the ground were. " It was where I saw my first werewolf. The town square was where the natives would gather to worship and close to that there was a field... where wild horses would graze,"
" That's incredible," Elena said with an inaudible gasp. " Do you know this place too?" Elijah came to a stop as he reached the boulders and stood by the firm rock, turning to face Elena again.
" I do. Below us is a cavern I use to play in as a boy. It connects to a system of tunnels that stretch across the entire area. Perhaps it's nature's way of providing us with shelter against the savagery of the full moon. My mother said there must be a balance." Elijah commented and he could tell that Elena was now sensing something was wrong.
" Elijah, I should probably go home," Elijah ignored her and instead placed his hands in his pockets.
" I admire you, Elena. You remind me of qualities I valued long before my mother turned us. You and Eliza both share that. Yet, like Eliza, it's not in your nature to be deceitful and yet when I asked about your meeting with my mother the other night, you lied to my face." Elijah said, his voice lowering. Elena could sense his anger.
" That's not true. I told you that all your mother wanted was a new start. If I lied then that means Eliza did too," Elena said, retorting like a small child would.
" Remember I can hear your heart beat Elena. Eliza is missing and neither I nor Niklaus can find her, meaning that if she too did lie to the both of us then it wasn't on purpose. Now, tell me the truth," Elijah demanded, getting slightly annoyed at the fact that Elena was blaming Eliza as well.
" I never wanted this to happen..." Elena whispered, avoiding Eliza's eyes. In a demanding way, Elijah took another step closer to Elena.
" What, Elena?"
" We were told that whatever was going to be in that coffin was going to kill Klaus. When we found out that it was your mother…We didn't know what to think." Elena began in a very innocent and guilty tone of voice.
" Since her return she says she only wants this family to be a whole again," Elijah stated, his eyes narrowing. If it was in fact his mother who had Eliza then it would no doubt be Elijah's fault since it was he who was first convinced that Elena was telling the truth.
" When she asked to see me, I… I thought that maybe she could help. That she would find a way to kill Klaus. It's not just Klaus that she wants to kill." Elena said and Elijah was taken a back for a moment when he finally realised what was going on.
" She wants to kill us all," Elijah spoke his thoughts out loud, still not fully understanding how this involved Eliza. " She wants to kill the evil she created,"
" I'm so sorry Elijah, I didn't mean for any of this to happen," Elena said as if begging him for mercy. In anger, Elijah grabbed Elena's arm and pulled her closer towards him, his brown eyes blazing with fury. Usually Elijah didn't reveal his emotions, like some vampires did, but today he needed to save Eliza.
" What does Eliza have to do with any of this?" Elijah questioned and Elena was beginning to look frightened.
" When your mother spoke to us... she said she needed both of our help to kill Klaus. Eliza tried... she tried to stop Esther and she was really angry but Finn stopped her from hurting your mother. Esther needed my blood to perform some sort of spell that connected the five of you to Eliza... meaning that... that if Esther kills in her in a ritual on a full moon then she will die and all of you along with her," Elena said, his voice turning quieter as she knew Elijah would be furious.
" You... You agreed to this? After everything that woman has done for you, you repay her like this?" Elijah growled in anger, his hand clenching tighter around Elena's arm. In the little time Elijah had known Eliza he'd grown very fond of her, it as too early for her to die. She didn't deserve it one bit. " You know, Elena, when Eliza informed me of the events that occurred during my death period she spoke so highly of you... as if you were her sister," Elena now looked even more guilty.
" I never wanted this to happen to any of you Elijah... but it's the only way to kill Klaus,"
" So you'll sacrifice the purest heart to kill the darkest evil," Elijah stated, his eyes hardening. " When Niklaus discovers what my mother plans to do, and I assure you I will inform him once I am done with you, he will no doubt kill everyone who knew about this. You have made a grave mistake Elena for ever trusting my mother and believing we would go down without fight,"
" If there is something I can do to help -" Elena began but Elijah interrupted her.
" You know, one thing I've learned on my time on this Earth… be careful what you wish for." Elijah said, before smashing his foot to the ground and creating a hole down into the cavern. In a flash, he forcefully took Elena and placed her down in the tunnels then called Rebekah to order her to guard Elena and kill her when Elijah says so.
Klaus felt it. As soon as he felt it, he was running towards where he knew the scene had happened. Kol, his brother had been daggered. For some reason he had felt every bit of the pain and now he was racing towards where he'd been stabbed. In a way, he hoped the murder was the one who had taken Eliza since that would mean it would be easier to find her. But Klaus' hope had already began to drain away since he'd spent a whole day searching but he hadn't gotten any further.
In mere seconds, Klaus found Stefan and Alaric carrying Kol's body out of Mystic Grill and into a cellar. However, before they could do so he un-daggered Kol and then threw Alaric and Stefan away from him. The only person left standing was Damon Salvatore, the man Klaus had loathed since he'd helped Mikael torture Eliza. With an angry expression, Klaus glared at Damon with the dagger still held in his hand. It was possible that Damon could know of Eliza's whereabouts... If he didn't find her soon he would no doubt could mad with worry, he was already beginning to get that way.
" I should have killed you months ago," Klaus stated, his anger growing as he remembered Eliza's fear of Damon.
" Do it. It's not going to stop Esther from killing your family and Eliza," Damon said with a large smirk upon his face. Klaus froze for a moment in shock and fury. Though his mind worked faster than any other vampire, it was hard for him to comprehend what Damon had just said. Could it have been his mother all along? He growled to himself.
" What did you say about my mother?" Klaus asked in a threatening tone, his arm raising as he pointed the dagger towards Damon threateningly.
" You didn't know I was friends with your mommy? You know, me and her have a lot in common. She hates you and Eliza as much as I do," Damon said with a small chuckle. Rage was already flooding Klaus body and he prepared to attack Damon, his eyes flashing yellow for only a moment.
" Leave him. We still need them Niklaus to save Eliza," At the sound of her name, Klaus paused and turned towards Elijah with a very anxious filled expression.
" What has mother done?" Klaus questioned, his eyes looking at Elijah frantically. " What has she done Elijah?"
" She has Eliza." Elijah replied, his voice emotionless. Turning his attention away from a now almost frantic Klaus, Elijah walked up to his brothers side and looked at Damon. " Tell me where the witches are now otherwise I'll have Rebekah kill Elena this instant,"
" You told me we had until after nine!" Damon retorted in a childlike way but Elijah's firm expression scared even Damon himself.
" I'm sure Rebekah will be more than happy to begin her work early. After all she has a deep hatred for Elena since Elena was the one, after all, who betrayed Eliza," Elijah stated and Klaus turned to Elijah again at the sound of Eliza's name, for a moment he was pulled out of his frantic thoughts.
" What has she done Elijah?" He asked in an almost desperate, angry tone.
" When mother spoke to Eliza and Elena at the ball, she revealed to them both how she planned to kill us. Though Eliza was angry and tried to prevent whatever spell mother performed, Finn stopped her before she could harm mother. Using Elena's blood, she tied our lives to Eliza's and plans to kill her in a ritual tonight, thus killing her and us all," Elijah explained, watching as Klaus' eyes widened in desperation, frustration, anger, panic and a little disbelief.
" No..." Was all he growled, looking down towards the floor and clenching his fists tightly in his hands. Once he'd recovered from the mere shock of the revelation, Klaus pinned Damon to the wall with menace running through his body, plunging his hand into Damon's chest and grabbing his heart.
" Where is she?" Klaus growled and Damon thought that he'd never seen Klaus this angry - It was like he was suddenly overtaken with demons. " Tell me!" Klaus shouted loud enough for people miles away to hear, threateningly he began to pull at Damon's heart.
" They'll be at the witch house in the middle of the woods. It's where Bonnie drew her power from when she tried to kill you after the ritual," Stefan revealed, watching his brother with worried eyes. In mere seconds, Klaus had left the scene and was now sprinting towards the house as fast as his legs could carry him. Not far behind, ran Elijah and an awakened Kol who was slightly confused but followed anyway.
Throughout the whole journey all Klaus could think about was Eliza. The feelings he now felt reminded him of the time he knew Mikael had her captured, but this time it would be harder for him to save her. Avenging thoughts were already clouding his mind and his kill list was growing longer and longer. Esther, Finn, Elena, Damon, Stefan, Caroline... All of it would be in revenge on what they've done to Eliza. That was, if he managed to save her and himself. However, right now, his own life wasn't his priority. If he could somehow die without taking Eliza's life with him, he would do it without a milliseconds worth of hesitation.
As the three originals came closer to their destination, Klaus could hear his mother talking to Finn and Eliza whimpering. The sound of her cries caused him to run harder and faster, and it wasn't long before the three of them emerged from the forest and into the clearing outside the abandoned witch house. Klaus' eyes, again, widened as he saw Eliza's figure on the ground in the middle of a spelled circle with a star in the middle. Finn stood in front of her and Esther in a protective way, but Klaus knew it wasn't in order to protect his one true love. Growls erupted from his throat as he saw the scene in front of him and his eyes locked with Eliza's for a moment who stared at him with hopeful and pleading eyes.
" My sons, come forward," Esther said in an almost daring way. Instantly Klaus' attention turned away from Eliza as he realised he would be distracted by her if he paid attention to her any longer. Her safety was the main priority at the moment.
" Stay behind me mother," Finn warned and Klaus glared at him with a menacing expression. He could feel his body almost absent-mindedly wanting to run forward and steal Eliza away from harms way, but that would be impulsive and foolish. Klaus couldn't afford to think like that.
" It's ok. They can't get in," Esther replied, aiming most of this at Klaus who now was looking at her.
" That's lovely. We're stuck out here while the favourite son plays sacrificial lamb. How pathetic you are, Finn, when to do so you have to take an innocent girl's life with you," Kol said sarcastically and Klaus was slightly shocked about what Kol had said about Eliza, but his attention didn't waver from Finn and Esther.
" Be quiet, Kol. Your brother knows virtue you cannot even imagine." Esther scolded.
" Whatever you think of us, killing your own children and an innocent woman is an atrocity," Elijah stated and still Klaus didn't speak. His mind was too overtaken with thoughts on how to save for him to speak.
" My only regret is that I did not let you die a thousand years ago," Esther said before looking up at the sky. The moon was very close to the right position, so Esther grabbed Eliza forcefully and dropped her down onto her knees in the middle of the circle. From the way Eliza didn't struggle or even try to fight back, Klaus could tell that Esther must have placed a weakening spell on her. This only caused the anger to rise in Klaus.
" Enough. All this talk is boring me. Be done with this mother and let Eliza go, otherwise I'll send you back to hell," Klaus threatened menacingly, taking another step closer towards the circle. At the sound of Klaus' voice, Eliza again raised her head and mouthed an 'I'm sorry' to Klaus. This only broke his heart further. Though his heart hadn't beat in many years it felt as if it was pounding hard against his chest. The mere thought of Eliza's death was killing him in itself.
" For a thousand years, I've been forced to watch you. Felt the pain of every victim, suffered while you shed blood. Even you, Elijah, with your claim to nobility, you're no better. All of you. You're a curse on this Earth. Stretched out over generations. If you've come to plead for your life or hers, I'm sorry, you've wasted your time. But all of you along with Eliza will die tonight. And you, Niklaus, will feel the pain of watching your true love die, similar to the pain I felt from watching my children heartlessly kill. Even you Elijah, since your fondness is growing for her, will feel that pain too. It is my bittersweet revenge." Esther said and Klaus, suddenly in a mindless rage, advanced forward to attack Esther, but he was only thrown back by the invisible witch force.
" I love you Niklaus..." Eliza whispered again for a final time after a few moments of silence from Esther - who was preparing herself to perform the spell in a few seconds time.
" I love you, please hold on... I will keep you safe... you will not die...not today... not ever." Klaus stated, small tears welling up in his eyes as he realised that there was no way past the barrier. Eliza's head tilted to the side a little as she too began to cry. Instinctively, Klaus reached out to her as if to want to wipe away her tears, but he only touched the barrier. " End this now!" He screamed in rage as his mother placed his hands on Eliza's head. With one final glance at Klaus' frantic, maddened eyes, Eliza closed her own eyes and prepared herself for death.
Seeing that she had all but given up, Klaus began to pound on the barrier as if his infinite strength could destroy it. However, the barrier withheld and Klaus was forced to watch as Esther began to chant and Eliza collapsed in pain, screaming louder than he'd ever heard before. Each scream was like a knife to his heart and the sheer pain of it was almost enough for Klaus to collapse in pain himself. Like before, his eyes began to flash yellow as if he was about to turn into a wolf and he pounded harder against the barrier.
" NO! NO! GET AWAY FROM HER!" Klaus shouted, the mere loudness of it hurting his throat. Though this pain was bearable compared to the emotional pain. " I WILL TEAR YOU LIMB FROM LIMB... BOTH OF YOU! THE TWO OF YOU WILL GO TO HELL FOR THIS!" Even though Klaus was shouting loud, Eliza's screams still overrode his voice and Klaus found himself guiltily watching her with endless tears running down his cheeks. " Eliza... No, Eliza... You cannot die... You cannot die," He found himself whispering to her and himself.
" No! Sisters! Do not abandon me now!" Esther began to shout as she squeezed her eyes shut harder in concentration. But Klaus watched in sheer hope as Esther head was dragged up to look at the sky and Eliza's screams died down a little. Though there was always hope, it was lost in little under a few seconds when Esther pulled out the special dagger she had prepared and concealed.
" GET AWAY FROM HER!" Klaus found himself screaming again as Esther picked up Eliza's almost unconscious body from the floor and aiming the dagger at her heart.
" This is what you all deserve," Was all Esther said, before mercilessly plunging the stake through Eliza's pure heart. Almost lurching forward, Klaus began to gasp desperately for breaths as his lungs suddenly began to stop working and he dropped to his knees in pain as he watched, despairingly, as the grey veins began to appear on Eliza's body and she dropped to the floor; eyes blank and lifeless, body grey and unnaturally still.
" NO!" Klaus screamed out from the pain he was now feeling. But this wasn't the pain of dying - no that would be a much less painful death. It was from the pain of seeing his one true love die before his eyes at the hands of his mother and brother. His family. All the promises he'd told her... The future he'd planned for them both... All of it was gone; wiped away by his family. There was nothing he could do - to save her or himself from the grief-stricken pain that was striving through his body faster than light itself.
" Eliza... Eliza..." He whispered her name in disbelief, not paying attention to his mother who was now staring with a deep frown at the four brothers, not understanding why they weren't dying. For the moment, she was lucky that Klaus was too over come by pain to attack her. But it wasn't long before Klaus realised that the barrier had broken...
Glancing at Eliza's body one final time, his mind became overrun by his many demons and it seemed that all of the evil within him was taking over. Without another moments hesitation, he leaped forward towards his mother and plunged his teeth into her neck, his eyes fully turning the yellow colour they did when he was angry. The sound of his mother screaming was like music to Klaus' ears as he continued to suck the life out of her. Elijah, who was also in a similar state of mind to Klaus - but not nearly as powerful and saddening -, held Finn back so he couldn't stop Klaus. It only took minutes before Klaus pulled away with blood dripping from his mouth, his eyes still a demonic yellow.
" The bitch will finally rot in hell," Klaus announced with a sarcastic edge in his voice. For the first time in a while, Klaus felt as if he could literally feel the humanity switch which came with becoming a vampire. However, over the thousand years he'd lived on this earth it had all but disappeared, like it did for all vampires after only decades of living. Even though switching the humanity switch would be the easier option, since it would take away all his pain, he couldn't do. Klaus should have died with her, now that she was dead he wanted to die. He needed to feel this pain, feel the guilt of letting Eliza slip right through his fingers yet again.
This time things weren't like how they were before; her death was certain. And though his demonic nature was now shining through, the pain within Klaus didn't lessen and, once he'd wiped the blood from his face, he collapsed to the ground beside Eliza's body. For now, Klaus didn't pay attention to Elijah, Kol or even Finn - who he was now desperate to kill - all he could see was Eliza's lifeless body. Guilt raked through him as he brushed his lips against hers softly for one final time. Slowly picking up her body and resting it on his knees, he cradled her in his arms and burst into an eruption of sobs as he continued to rock her body back and forth. He'd felt this pain before, but it wasn't nearly as worse as it was now; it was as if all of him demons and enemies had collected into one and each killed his un-beating heart one at a time. No amount no of physical pain could compare to this. His body was being ripped apart by the grief.
Eliza Petrova, the only person Klaus had ever truly loved, was dead. It was all his fault. She was gone. Without her, he was a broken piece of a now heartless monster who was willing to kill everything and anything in his path. Nothing more evil had ever walked earth than a demonic Klaus who had lost his only reason for wanting to live any longer... All of the goodness in him had been torn away. All that was left was a broken, heartless monster...
" I've failed you... I failed you, my dearest Eliza..."
Darkness. Oblivion. Pain. Nothingness. Death. I fear them. Now I am with them, for all eternity.
Wow... that's all I can say to this chapter. So much happened and yet I feel as if I skipped over too much... but I cried so much while writing this since I've had this planned ( Like the Mikael chapters) for a very long time. The moment has finally arrived where I killed off my beloved main character... so how many of you hate me right now? Because I hate myself for doing this. But thank you so much for reading! and if you don't hate me, then please review and tell me your thoughts and feelings. Did you like the final Kliza moments? What do you think is going to happen to Klaus? and even Elijah? I can't wait to read the reviews for this chapter! I love you all and thank you for all of the support!
So I randomly decided to add a piano in this chapter since I play piano and I get lost in pieces like Eliza did earlier in the chapter and before I wrote this, I listened to this really sad piano piece which I imagined would play in the background of Eliza's death scene... It made me cry even more :'( Anyways... I wanted to share it with you all since it's a very said piece and fits the theme perfectly, the link is this...
