Help Me
" She's different..." Elijah said quietly down the phone, gripping it tightly while he paced up and down the newest Hotel room.
It had been a month and a week since Eliza had ran with Elijah following. Throughout that time, Elijah had taken care of Eliza as much as possible and over time their close bond had grown; trust had developed and Eliza found it extremely comforting to have Elijah there with her. Meanwhile, back in Mystic Falls, Klaus had been falling apart more day by day and - though his psychotic ways weren't even close to being as bad as when Eliza had died - he'd grown to become anxious, frantic and enraged constantly. The only person he'd spoken to since that day was Elijah, as he rang to update him on their whereabouts and to inform him that Eliza was ok. This brought a small amount of comfort to Klaus, but not much. Knowing she was safe was a good thing - he needed that. Knowing that she loved him - he craved that. However, Elijah had informed him time and time again that, despite crying herself to sleep the majority of nights, she hadn't mentioned Klaus once since that day. Knowing this pained Klaus.
" What do you mean different?" Klaus snapped, his typical furious tone taking over his voice.
" She's changed, Niklaus," Elijah replied, his mouth set in a hard line. During the times where Eliza was out enjoying herself, Elijah had always called Niklaus and informed him more of their situation. He would never risk calling while Eliza was with him as he feared that just his name would send her reeling backwards into the state she was in on that first day. " She appears stronger. It seems that she currently enjoys using sarcasm constantly and that instead of, I quote, ' living her new human life in a dull fashion' she says she needs to be more free with herself and live as if she was born in the 21st century. Everything's had a huge impact on her, but she's still the same girl inside,"
Driving hadn't worked out well. Then again, nothing was seeming to work out well at the moment. In an eruption of choking tears, Eliza sat curled up in the drivers car seat, trying to ignore the pain surging through her body.
Shortly after swiftly driving away from the Mikaelson household, Eliza had almost collided with a oncoming car after her car spun when she hit a large puddle in the middle of the road. She had dangerously been driving at a speed of 90 miles per hour, and because she had been too consumed within her own grief, she hadn't been quick enough to use the ring - which allowed her to have super quick reflexes - and stop herself from crashing. Instead, her car smashed front-first into one of the large trees that surrounded the road. The damage done was horrendous; all of the windows had smashed, the front of the car had been crushed to half of the size and Eliza had been slammed into the steering wheel. Luckily, using the strength of the ring, she had managed to stop some of the force but the impact had still caused her head to throb uncontrollably. Eliza was a complete mess.
After what felt like an extremely long amount of time, where the pain only grew worse, she felt the car suddenly jerk backgrounds. Letting out a panicked scream which stung her throat, Eliza squeezed her eyes tightly shut and hugged herself harder. Suddenly, however, the car door opened and a small gasp of surprise escaped someone's lips. Not looking up to see who it was, Eliza allowed the person to lift her carefully out of the car and cradle her in their arms. Klaus. It didn't feel like him at all, but Eliza could hope. But though her heart wished it to be him, her mind was begging for it not to be. She was in enough of a mess already and seeing him after what he'd done would only increase her messed up state.
" Eliza... Eliza speak to me," The voice ordered softly, sounding worried. It took a few minutes for her brain to fully comprehend who it was. Elijah. From all the crying and screaming, Eliza's throat ached terribly, but she managed to lift her head - slightly - and look up at Elijah.
" Elijah..." A small frown of confusion formed on Eliza's face as she formed the word. What was he doing here?
" Are you alright? Where does it hurt?" Elijah asked, trying to keep his tone calm and smooth. The worry, however, was audible in his voice. Eliza was painfully reminded of Klaus' over-protectiveness.
" Everywhere..." Eliza whispered. No longer able to hold her head up properly, she dropped it back down to rest on Elijah's arm. Now the sight of the night sky filled her eyes. How beautiful...Eliza thought to herself, smiling softly.
" You need to drink my blood, you're hurt too much for me to take you to hospital..." Elijah bit into his wrist after speaking and offered it to Eliza, who turned her head away from it.
" No..." She protested, new tears forming and spilling from her eyes. " Klaus..." Her heart ached.
" You need to drink it, Eliza. I will take you back to Niklaus as soon as you are healed, if that is what you want," Elijah said, in a more rushed and panicked tone. The sound of her heart rate was beginning to slow and he could tell that her body was too badly damaged for her to stay conscious for much longer. Elijah wasn't a doctor. He needed to help her now before anything more drastic happened to her.
" No..." Eliza gasped. " No... Don't take me back... please... no don't!" Her cries seemed louder, but her voice still didn't sound strong enough. Eliza sounded broken.
" I won't... I promise you, I won't. Just drink this, please Eliza," Looking up at him with wide, tear stained eyes, she stared at him with a conflicted expression.
" Blood... reminds me... of him..." Eliza whispered, her eyes beginning to droop slightly. Somehow she managed to keep them open. " Don't want... to remember..."
" Eliza, drink this. Now. I need to help you." Elijah growled a little more forcefully, pushing his wrist closer towards her mouth. Still, Eliza resisted, using all of her lasting strength to move her head away from Elijah's prompting wrist. That's when she fell unconscious. " Eliza... Eliza!" He shook her to see if she would wake. Luckily her heartbeat was still audible and without a single more hesitation he shoved his wrist into her mouth, forcing the blood down her throat.
Hours later, at the dead of night, Eliza finally awoke with a gasp. There was still pain. Her memories flashed back the instant she was awake, and her heart twinged in shock and grief. Yet again. Despite all her wounds having healed up, she still felt it - the emotional pain. There was no cure for that, not even vampire blood. The only likely cure was Klaus himself, but Eliza refused to go back. He gave up on her. So she had to give up on him. To show him how much he hurt her. But how long could she withstand this pain without going back to him? How could she ever heal? Did she ever want to go back to him? This was too much for her to take in after a dreadful car accident.
" Good. Your awake," Eliza jumped at the sound of a voice, instinctively turning towards the sound. Sitting cautiously in the corner of the room, with a calm demeanor, Elijah forced a smile to his face.
" Elijah..." The smile was not returned. Instead, Eliza looked at him blankly not knowing what to think. The biggest question was, why was he here? But then her mind almost instantly wandered to Klaus... Was he here too? Had Elijah called him after the accident? How hard was it going to be seeing him again? Could she handle it? Was he going to try and apologise? All these questions were giving Eliza a headache. She just wanted to be happy again.
" I trust that all your wounds have healed?" Elijah asked worriedly. Still, Eliza didn't smile, she didn't even force a smile. This was unusual and strange for Elijah to see, as whenever he'd seen Eliza - even after a terrible occurrence - she would always be smiling, trying to reassure everyone that she was okay. This wasn't happening at the moment. It worried him. Had Klaus really managed to break Eliza Petrova? The strongest heart, that never gave up on anything? Then again, she already had given up on something. She'd given up on Klaus, something that everyone that Klaus had known had done.
" Yes. They have." Eliza replied blankly.
" Do you feel okay?" Her answers were short and not elaborate at all. It annoyed him. All Elijah wanted to see was Eliza back to normal; happy, strong, loving and filled with light.
" No. But I'm alive." Again, another blank response. Eliza's lips tightened into a hard line of frustration, before he casually walked over to her bed, took a deep breath, then sat down by her feet.
" He's not here, if that is what has you so worried," Elijah answered the unspoken question, and Eliza's eyes widened in shock before she masked it quickly with a look of confusion. Somehow his vampire sight hadn't crossed her mind. Elijah wasn't easy to deceit, especially since all of his concentration was focused on her.
" I never asked-" Eliza began to protest, her voice taking on a new defensive tone.
" I know. But I could tell you were thinking about it..." Elijah said while studying her carefully. What he would give to have this woman to be his... " You're hurt,"
" That's an understatement," Eliza muttered quietly this time, looking down at her knees. Her sitting position on the bed was highly uncomfortable, but she didn't care. She'd given up. That was something Eliza had been sure she'd never do - give up on Klaus. But she had... She'd left... He wasn't hers anymore... He'd cheated.
" My brother-" Elijah paused for a second as he spotted small tears forming in Eliza's pain filled eyes. However, he needed - had to - continue. " is a very complicated man, as you already know, Eliza. But what I fear you don't see is how much he loves you..." For some reason it hurt Elijah to say this, but it was the moral thing to do. The right thing to do. His feelings didn't matter. They couldn't matter. Klaus would never forgive him if Elijah stole Eliza away from him and no doubt he would go on a rampage that would put everyone in danger; even himself. " When Niklaus has been outwitted by anyone, he always acts out. You know what happened after he thought you were dead... Him thinking that you didn't love him was probably just as hurtful to him... He made a mistake that he is going to regret... This will ruin him... It will ruin the both of you..." Eliza squeezed her eyes tightly shut. Lifting her head up and forcing her eyes open, tears sprung from Eliza's eyes as she locked eyes with Elijah.
" You mean well... I know you do... You love your brother..." Eliza said through tears, her body beginning to shake. " But you're hurting me... This is hurting me more... I don't want to think!" She slammed her heads down on the bed angrily, all of her fury aimed at herself. Feeling a sense of relief from hitting something, she began to do this continually while pained cried ripped through her body. " I don't want to think anymore! I want to forget! I don't want this!" Her sudden outbreak pained Elijah and immediately wished he'd never said a word.
" I will help you..." Hesitantly, Elijah slowly moved towards her, his arms open. Not bothering looking at him, and instead answering his unasked question, Eliza moved into Elijah's arms, allowing him to envelope her in comfort. A small amount of relief flooded through her at the feeling of being held by someone she deeply cared about, and Elijah held her tightly in his arms, stroking her back soothingly. The feeling was immense and ecstatic for him, but he tried his hardest to push these foreign feelings away. Eliza would always be Klaus. That statement was none negotiable. " I will protect you and stay with you... for all the time that you want me to. You will not be alone through this Eliza... I won't let that happen..."
His soft words were soothing and in the very back of Eliza's mind, she felt the small urge to smile. However, that didn't manage to break through her walls of pain and instead the tears still flowed. " Thank you." Was all she managed to say. Right now she was too overwhelmed to say anymore.
" Where are you?" Klaus asked, his tone firm and aggressive. Same old broken Klaus.
" You know I can't tell you that Niklaus," Elijah said, shaking his head even thought Klaus couldn't see him. Straight away Elijah knew that Klaus wanted to come and see Eliza. But Elijah couldn't let that happen. He'd seen how she'd grown over the past month or so, she was stronger now and she finally didn't seem as broken as before. Her sadness and pain was still there, but she was smiling. If Klaus came to visit then he feared that it would drive Eliza back to square one again.
" Tell me where you are Elijah. I need to see her," Elijah didn't want to imagine the deranged and maddened expression on Klaus' face right now. Just from Klaus' voice Elijah could tell that Klaus hadn't healed at all, and had instead grew worse. The problem was, Elijah believed Klaus would never be healed. Maybe him coming to see Eliza would heal him a little? But who's emotions did he care about more, Eliza or Niklaus? How could he choose between his family and current love?
" She is smiling. She has finally managed to go a few days without crying while it is still light outside. Do you want to arrive and ruin all the progress she's made? She needs time to heal from this brother," Elijah explained carefully. Feeling Klaus' hesitation and sadness, Elijah sighed down the phone.
" She's healed... She's forgotten me already..." Elijah frowned as he heard Klaus' defeated, pain filled tone. " This is your fault!" Klaus growled.
" The girl has not forgotten you Niklaus, that is impossible. All I'm saying is that she's healed enough to live a day without feeling the pain you've caused her. Her love for you hasn't lessened. She's been out to bars, out on the street and whenever another man has tried to pursue her she has turned them down. She needs time to heal before she can come back to you. You need to be patient." Was what Elijah saying true? Elijah wasn't ever sure if he believed these words himself. But he had to convince Klaus from not coming and ruining everything.
" You don't know that. You don't know her Elijah, stop acting as if you do! You are nothing to her and she is nothing to you!" Elijah's jaw clenched in frustration. There was not a chance in hell that Elijah was going to reveal to his brother that his feelings had yet again grown for Eliza. He didn't even want to reveal this to himself. But if Klaus was jealous, then as soon as he and Eliza were back together then he would no doubt deal with Elijah in a brutal manner. Or so Elijah believed.
" However much you say this Niklaus, it will not change the fact that myself and Eliza see each other as family. She trusts me now, more than she probably trusts you. That is all. I do not love her in that way, nor does she love me in that way. I have protected her like she is my own family, is that not enough for you? Do you want me to leave without giving you her whereabouts and leave her to handle herself?"
" No." Klaus was defeated.
" Then handle this situation like she is doing. Be patient." Elijah ordered. " Now I must leave, as someone has arrived at the door,"
" Elijah!" Klaus growled down the phone in frustration, but Elijah had already hung up. Placing his phone back in his pocket, Elijah approached the door and answered it with a straight look upon his face. Though his expression changed in seconds as he spotted who was at the door. The beautiful women who had been involved in this whole mess. Hayley.
" Whatever you are doing here, I suggest you leave before Eliza returns. Neither of us wish to speak to you, Hayley." Elijah stated with hardened eyes. It was wrong of him to be mad at a women who probably had no idea of Klaus' situation, but he still felt that pang of hatred. Despite her obvious beauty that seemed to entice him - as her looks seemed to resemble Eliza's and Katerina's - he still felt that familiar hatred flow through him. Though he was curious to why Hayley seemed to share some features with Eliza... Is this what drew Klaus to her in the first place?
" I don't think that's a good idea. Can you just hear me out... please?" Hayley asked, a guilty expression upon her face.
" What is it that you want?" Elijah questioned.
" Look, I know that you hate me and I'm sorry but-" Elijah instantly interrupted her with a frown forming on her face. It was true that he felt some form of hatred towards her, but he'd thought he'd managed to hide it well. Was it that obvious?
" I do not hate you, Hayley. And any apology's you have shouldn't be said to me but Eliza herself, though I'm sure she does not want to see you. Despite the fact that she obviously doesn't blame you, seeing you will bring back the memories that she has fought hard to rid her mind of,"
" You're Elijah right? The good brother? The one in love with his brother's girl?" Elijah tensed and Hayley sensed his immediate anger. However, she was not put off by this and instead straightened herself as thought trying to make herself look stronger than she appeared.
" How do you-?" Elijah began to question.
" Kol asked me which brother I slept with, you or Klaus. He said he hoped it was you since you were the good brother even though you were in love with Klaus' girlfriend," Hayley said awkwardly, avoiding meeting Elijah's eyes. Though his fists clenched in obvious anger, Elijah's calm expression didn't leave. As soon as Hayley knew that he wasn't going to hurt her, she looked up at him again.
" Well my brother Kol has always had a tendency to reveal too much to unknown faces,"
" You and Eliza arrived here yesterday, right? So she could search for the family she has left in New Orleans?"
" It seems that you know quite a lot about my family already, Hayley. What is it that you want?" Elijah asked with his eyes narrowing.
" I want to help. I think I can help... You just need to tell me what you know already about her family," Elijah hesitated. Sensing this, Hayley tried to convince him more. " It's the least I could do to make it up to her after what I did," Pausing for a few moments, Elijah contemplated this. Elijah and Eliza had already spent the night scouring the town for any signs of a werewolf clan; they'd asked around town for any werewolves, making sure that the only people they spoke to were human. It had been Elijah's priority to make sure that none of the old, familiar faces spotted him or discovered Eliza. Old enemies discovering Eliza would not go down well with Klaus.
" What Eliza has told me is that... She had a daughter named Lillian who she was forced to give up in the early 1900's, who later produced twins. One of the twins named Helena married into a werewolf clan in New Orleans and they had a son named Fredrick, who later had a daughter. The daughter of Fredrick and his wife is who she is trying to find. Apparently Fredrick and his wife were murdered," After speaking, Elijah spotted Hayley visible flinch and a frown formed on his face.
" I think I know who you're looking for..." Hayley answered after a few seconds of silence, her new hesitance confusing Eliza. What was it that Hayley knew?
" What is it you know?" Elijah questioned in a demanding tone. " How do you know?"
" I've been an orphan since I could remember. I was forced out of whatever town I lived in when I was younger and... when I met Klaus that night he told me he could help me. He protected me from Katherine and eventually revealed where he believed my family were. I've been searching for them for as long as I can remember... He said they were in New Orleans. I stayed for a while in Mystic Falls to help out my friend Tyler, but after speaking to Kol and him taking me to your family, I left to go and try and find my family in New Orleans. When I finally found the werewolf clan I belonged to... I discovered that both my parents were dead... The only thing they told me was that my mother was named Andrea and my father... was named Fredrick. My grandparents had died along with them... they were named Helena and Henry... That's all I know..." Hayley explained, his voice sounding much quieter and softer as she spoke about her family. One thing that was obvious about Hayley was that she was strong and independent. Her past explained a lot about why. But this revelation clearly shocked Elijah... They'd already found Eliza's living family before they reached New Orleans.
" You're Eliza's great great granddaughter?" Elijah questioned. His expression now filled with mere shock. How on earth was Eliza going to react to this? Was it going to destroy her? Would it ruin all of the progress that she'd made?
" Yes." Hayley answered carefully. " She's the only living family I actually have left..."
In. Out. In. Out. Eliza repeated these words in her mind as she struggled to guzzle down water after her hour long exercise. For a little over a month now she'd down exercise everyday. This was her own attempt at trying to strengthen herself and it was also a very therapeutic method. It had helped her a lot over the days without him. Along with Elijah's help she seemed to be healing. Slightly. Not thinking about it was the best thing possible for her. But that had only been possible for her recently. Even then she only managed it for 10 hours at most. Then she'd just go ahead and cry herself to sleep all over again. The hour that she exercised was always the best hour of the day. However, right now something didn't feel right.
All of her sudden she had begun to find it hard to breathe and she'd suddenly come down with a terrible headache. After believing that a breath of fresh air would help, she'd hurried down to the nearest exit she could find - the fire exit that led out into a back alleyway. However, this hardly seemed to help. The headache had only strengthened and a ringing in her ears had begun. Placing her hands over her ears to try and stop the painful noise, she breathed harder and faster and tried not to choke on her own breath any longer.
However, all of a sudden, she felt a sharp blow to the back of her head and she fell unconscious to the ground. One name appeared in her brain instantly as Eliza somehow felt the danger. Klaus. She needed him.
Later on that same day, Eliza finally awoke with a groan of pain. Her hand instantly shot up to the back of her head, which was bandaged up neatly. Despite the ache and obvious damage, Eliza's eyes managed to focus on the area around her. But she instantly panicked as she saw unfamiliar surroundings; strange concrete walls with a weird language etched into it, a large bench made out of concrete in which she was laying on and a single candle that lit the room. Pushing away the urge to hyperventilate yet again, Eliza fumbled around for her phone in the back pocket of her tight sweatpants. With an extremely thankful flood of relief, she whipped it out of her pocket and switched it on. Whoever had kidnapped her had obviously not been smart enough to take her phone... Why had they done that? Eliza chose not to dwell on this question, and instead rang Elijah. Hopefully he could find her before anything happened to her.
There was no answer. In fact the phone went straight to voice mail. Again, Eliza panicked. There was no one else she could think that she could call. Kol and Rebekah didn't have mobiles... Whoever it was she doubted Stefan would be able to save her... Elena was out of the question... Her only hope was Elijah and... him. But she hadn't spoken to him in months. All her efforts went into not thinking about him at all. It was hurting her right now to think about him; her heart twitched in irritation. No. She couldn't call him? What was she thinking? But who else was there to save her? Who else could save her better than Klaus himself?
Suddenly feeling fearful and hurt again, Eliza tried calling Elijah once more. Still, no answer. Just his voicemail. She tried again. The same. And, again. Nothing changed. His voice mail was becoming rather annoying. Then it struck her that she didn't know how long she'd have before her kidnapper would come back for her... She didn't know where she was or even if she was still in New Orleans... There was only one option she had. There was nobody else she could think of... Klaus. She needed him. She needed his help. Nervously, and with a shaking hand, she clicked to dial his number. Her heart thudded loudly against her chest as she brought the phone to her ear, hearing the first rang. Then, he answered.
" Eliza..." The confusion in Klaus' voice was audible. Relief instantly flooded Eliza, and this annoyed her. Why did his voice have this effect on her? Why couldn't she just forget everything and move on with her life? He'd hurt her too much. Because you love him. Her heart spoke for her mind.
" Eliza, love? Are you there?" Love. Just the sound of that word seemed to heal her hurting a little. Again, this annoyed her. Pushing the tears away from her eyes, she took a deep breath and mustered up the courage to speak.
" Hi..." She refused to speak his name like she usually did to answer his phone call. She hadn't spoken his name in months, she wasn't planning on now. " I need your help... Elijah won't answer my calls and I don't know where I am. I had no one else to call and I don't know what to do or where to go! I can hardly see anything and someone caught me... someone kidnapped me and took me here after they somehow managed to convince me to go outside so they could hit me and take me-" She was beginning to babble and the panic in her voice alerted Klaus. Eliza's breathing picked up strongly as she stopped herself suddenly, closing her eyes tightly shut.
" Sweetheart, it's okay. Calm down. I will find you. I will always find you. I will deal with whoever has taken you and return you back to Elijah. I just need to know where you are, love..." His voice was soothing and calm. Just the sound of his comforting voice helped a millennium more than Elijah's did.
" We went to New Orleans... to find my family... I think I'm in a tomb but I don't know..." Suddenly, the sound of echoing footsteps made Eliza jump in fright. It was heels clicking on the stone floor. " Help me... please. Someone's coming so I have to go... I think it's a woman..."
" I will find you, I promise. Stay safe for me sweetheart," And just like that, Klaus was gone.
And that is the end of part 1 for this story... And, I know. I never told you guys that I was splitting this into two parts, but I came completely out of the blue for me too. The reason why I've done it is because the story is obviously moving onto the Originals storyline so I wanted to do a little preview with snippets of what is yet to come in the next load of chapters that will follow The Originals storyline. Let's just say it will be like a trailer, but it will just be a compilation of parts of writing that will be appearing. I was inspired by the Comic Con trailer for The Originals ;) Also it will give you a few insights on how I'm going to change the storyline up a bit :)
So stay tuned for the Preview which will either be out today or tomorrow, and it would be great for you guys to comment on things you would like yourself for me to change the Originals plotline. Any plot ideas? Things you want me to add? Any couples you want together? Review and tell me! I will make sure to take them all into account.
Note: The preview will appear on this story, I won't be creating a new one for part 2.
Thankyou so much for reading! It means the world to me!
