Davina

" You know you need to come in with me, right? Klaus isn't just going to let me go off after he knows I've been attacked yet again." Eliza told Elijah softly - carefully - as Elijah arrived back at the Plantation house, stopping himself from running any further. Placing her back on the floor and releasing her from his arms, Elijah looked at her with furrowed eyebrows. The idea of him seeing his brother - who had daggered him out of anger and jealousy - sent a whirlwind of emotions through him, one's he wasn't ready enough to deal with yet.

" I do not think that that is a good idea, Eliza. After all it was Niklaus who handed me over to the enemy, all out of jealousy." Elijah wondered whether Klaus had actually told Eliza the real reason why he'd daggered Elijah. But, by the look of surprise and confusion on Eliza's face, it seemed not.

" Jealousy? But why-" Eliza shook her head in confusion and broke off mid sentence.

" It surprises me that you have not yet come to realise why Niklaus has been... isolating himself away," Elijah said enigmatically, searching Eliza's eyes deeply. The moment between them was growing and Eliza was beginning to feel more on edge and even slightly uncomfortable. Something felt odd... Romantic almost, yet she didn't want it to be.

" He's angry with me and angry with the things that have happened while we've been here..." Eliza's frown only grew and she couldn't quite understand what Elijah was trying to suggest.

Eliza let out a short, sarcastic chuckle. " Interesting. You see, I disbelieve Niklaus could ever pose any sort of anger towards you, unless you did everything possible to hurt him. Can you not see how his brash, arrogant, isolating behavior is down to his own self loathing?"

" That doesn't explain why he daggered you," Eliza was now becoming tired of hearing Elijah avoiding the real answer and trying to make her work out the answer on her own; she was tired of trying to understand Klaus' actions, when it was so much easier to just accept them and move on.

" His self loathing behaviour has lead him to believe that it is no longer in his power to manage to keep you and these babies from harms way, whereas he believes that I myself is wise enough to do so. He believes that I am trying to take his place in your life. Jealousy, is the answer." Elijah replied softly, watching Eliza's reaction carefully. Instantly, her eyes widened in slight shock and her mind became dizzy with a mixture of questions of confusion. The main one being: did Elijah her to be with him rather than Klaus?

" D-Do you?" Eliza asked quietly, not daring to look up and meet Elijah's eyes. " Do you want to take his place?"

Elijah hesitated for a moment. " I cannot lie and say that the thought hasn't passed my mind before, as it has and still is. However, my thousand years on this earth have proved well, as I understand that these thoughts are nothing but imagination, and that you, Eliza, belong with my brother. As always, your ways of bringing out the best in him astounds me. I will not come in the way of that. I will not jeopardize my brother's only chance at happiness after so long."

Eliza's heart practically melted at this whole speech; not in a romantic way, but in an adoring way. After hearing this, she found herself aiming to have the patience, moral and selflessness that Elijah had always had. Eliza didn't know of anyone who would give up their own chance at happiness so their brother could be happy. Finally looking up, Eliza studied Elijah for a moment; his eyes were filled with hope and slight sadness, but his demeanor, as ever, stayed calm and collected. Taking one step closer to him, Eliza stood up on her tiptoes and placed a small kiss on his soft lips.

" Your selflessness has always astounded me, Elijah. Thank you. I wish things could be different, but you deserve someone much greater than myself and I can't change the way I feel. But you deserve happiness to Elijah," Eliza spoke angelically, caressing his cheek as she pulled away from the short but sweet kiss. This time it was Elijah's turn to feel shocked by Eliza's actions. Sadly, it only made him love her more...

" Eliza." Elijah's adoring thoughts of Eliza instantly vanished, as he heard his brother's worried yet relieved voice calling out the girl they both loved. A smile formed on Eliza's face as she spotted Klaus swiftly walking down the path towards the plantation house, arriving back from somewhere." You're safe,"

Eliza only nodded in response, and Klaus seemed to disregard Elijah all together as he pulled Eliza into his arms, embracing her tightly. Placing a light kiss on top of her coconut smelling hair, Klaus breathed a sigh of relief. Upon pulling away, Klaus' eyes scanned her carefully, taking in the dirt rubbed all over her clothes and the blood staining parts of her T-shirt.

" Who did this to you?" Klaus asked, his voice lowering in anger as his grip tightened on her arms." I found the clinic empty when I arrived. The car you were in was abandoned outside and the window in the room was smashed, I was worried that you were taken."

" You were right, I can't trust the witches. Agnes set me up...She took me down to the clinic then obviously called a bunch of witches to try and capture me or something. After getting scanned and everything they arrived and I ran to the woods. By that point, I was on phone with Elijah who had just escaped and he came to find me. I killed 5 witches before I was shot twice by an arrow which had something in it that made me fall unconcious, Elijah then found me and brought me home, not a single scratch left." Eliza explained quickly, watching as the anger grew in Klaus' expression.

" I will slaughter the lot of them." Klaus growled.

" Not so fast... Why were you at the clinic?"

Klaus seemed to hesitate slightly for a moment." It seems that Marcel has planted hatred for me in the young witch, Davina, so I abandoned my plans to come to the scan, sweetheart."

Eliza was extremelly surprised. " The babies healed me Klaus,"

Klaus smiled at the thought but didn't speak a word, though he seemed surprised.

" And it's a boy and a girl." Eliza pulled the picture out from her pocket and showed Klaus the scan." That's them."

Klaus's smile grew wider as he looked at the picture, his eyes widening in amazement at the two dots of the scan. Though his amazement only lasted a few moments, soon he handed back the scan to her and his worrying took over. " How did you escape the witches unarmed?"

" I... I don't know. They shot me, I fell, I woke up and they were all gone." Eliza answered. " Elijah, did you see anything?"

Throughout the conversation Elijah had stood, watching the two with a small amount of envy in his eyes, yet he was glad this his brother was happy. It pleased him how Klaus had abandoned his quest for power to be there for Eliza and the babies. " Brother. I feel that an apology is in order."

" If an apology is all it takes, then I am sorry Elijah. Though after a thousand years, I'm surprised it's still suffice." Klaus narrowed his eyes at Elijah, acknowledging him for the first time since his own arrival.

" Well, after a thousand years, I've finally grown use to your ways of punishment, Niklaus. They will forever remain the same. Handing me over to the enemy is another advancement to the endless saga," Elijah replied, his eyes too narrowing.

" It's good to have you back, brother," Klaus stated sincerely, a small smile growing on his face. It was barely a smile but Elijah could see it all the same.

" The only trace left of whatever it was that attacked Eliza was a wolf paw print. However, as you can see, tonight is not a full moon." Elijah explained, his eyes narrowing in wonder, while Klaus seemed to contemplate the new news.

" I think, that might have something to do with me." Everyone turned as a new voice entered the conversation. Eliza was the last to turn, to see who it was, because of her human hearing. At first, she thought it was Rebekah, as she didn't hear the voice very well. However, upon spotting the new figure, Eliza found herself moving away from Klaus and slightly closer to Elijah. The same betrayed feeling ran through her yet again; the one she'd only just managed to burrow not so long ago.

" Hayley. May I suggest that this is not the right time?" Elijah told her softly, sensing the anger already bubbling within Klaus and the hurt running through Elijah. It was strange how just one innocent girl could create so many emotions all at once.

" I just need to speak to Eliza. You both know why I'm here. I might as well also explain who saved her life back there," Hayley said, her voice sounding stronger now. Purposefully, she avoided eyes with Klaus and kept her attention on Eliza and Elijah instead; the reasonable ones who were least likely to kill her.

" As you know, love, I am not nearly as reasonable as my brother. He suggested that you leave, I demand. Otherwise, I'll take pleasure in ripping you limb from limb and-" Klaus threatened, his eyes bubbling with rage and a twinge of regret and guilt. Here Hayley was again, reminding Klaus of his terrible mistake.

" Let her speak, Nik," Eliza interrupted. She hadn't meant to call him 'Nik', but she'd grown so used to over the months that the habit was hard to break. However, it seemed to work in her favour as Klaus seemed to listen more if she called him this. " What is it you are here for, Hayley? I am interested in what happened to me, but if you are here to apologise, then one isn't necessary. You didn't know about me, you did nothing on purpose and didn't wish to hurt me in anyway. There's nothing to forgive,"

Klaus' eyes snapped over to Eliza with horror in his eyes as he heard this; hurt flooded through him. It confused him to why she forgave Hayley but not him. Wasn't she just as much to blame?

" Elijah said you were looking for your family here, that they were part of the wolf clan that were run out of town by Marcel. I know everything you want to know," Hayley responded calmly, in a kind and soft voice. Eliza found it strange how Hayley seemed shocked because she had forgiven her. Wasn't it obvious that she would? The only person to blame was Niklaus.

" You're a werewolf, are you from here?"

Hayley nodded in reply to Eliza's question.

" Then why is it that you were in Mystic Falls, if your family are here?" Eliza questioned further. Her curiosity was getting the better of her.

" My parents died a long time ago when Marcel and his army came and slaughtered many of the Bayou pack. I was sent off as an orphan. I've been trying to find out about my family for a very long time, I've been tracking people down. My dad was called Frederick and his wife, my mum, was called Erin... Marcel killed them and my grandma, Helena. Helena tracked back to a girl named Lillian, who is also dead and-"

" Then you tracked me down. Your great great grandmother," Eliza whispered, her eyes brightening as she finally realized that she had found her only living family (besides Elena) left. " I feel old," Hayley and Eliza both grinned at this.

" Yep... you're the only family I actually have left. The werewolf pack welcomed me into theirs, since I'm apparently this big thing back there... I don't mean to be rude, but I'm not sure they'd take too kindly to a vampire-" Hayley said, before Eliza quickly interrupted her again.

" Not a good idea for a vampire to go there, I got it." Eliza chuckled. " I'm just glad I found you, Hayley. It's a shame I didn't know this before. I didn't give you a chance to speak before, I'm sorry for the outburst you saw,"

" Eliza-" Klaus tried joining in the conversation, as he saw the hurt that flashed across her beautiful jewel-like eyes.

" Don't." Eliza put a hand up to stop him, closing her eyes and trying to block out her painful thoughts. " Please don't. I don't need to here anymore about it. I want to forget that it ever happened. But that doesn't mean that you're forgiven," Eliza stated plainly.

" What do you need me to do, sweetheart? Because-"

" There's nothing you can do! Why can't you just understand that? I need time Klaus! Time to heal from how much you hurt me that day," Eliza whispered the last part, feeling herself edge closer towards Elijah; the safe brother.

" I think it might be best if I just go..." Hayley stated awkwardly, looking between the broken couple. Sighing and shaking her head, Eliza turned her attention to Hayley again and forced the tears away from her eyes. Though it was difficult, she smiled sincerely.

" Will you visit again soon? You're the only family I have left too, Hayley. I miss having family around," Eliza said and Hayley smiled.

" Sure. I do too," Hayley replied, before turning and walking away, again avoiding Klaus' piercing glare.

" You both knew, didn't you?" Eliza stated in a harsher tone this time, turning to both brothers. Hanging his head slightly lower, a slight amount of guilt filled Elijah's eyes, while Klaus remained impassive and even slightly angry.

" Before I knew you'd be taken by the witches, Hayley came to visit the Hotel room we were residing in. She revealed to me everything she knew. I found no right time to explain to you before I was daggered." Elijah explained carefully and Eliza nodded understandingly.

" I don't want her in the house." From the sound of his voice, Eliza could tell that he was trying not to get too angry.

" Hayley is part of my family, Klaus. Either you put up with her or I'm gone." Klaus heaved an angry sigh as he knew that he would never allow Eliza to leave; not now that she was finally back in his life, not now that's she carrying his children.

" Eliza, if we are still in agreement, then we need to leave." Elijah stated in a quieter voice, looking at her intently.

" Leave where?" Klaus demanded with a frown, his eyes flickering between his brother and Eliza.

" As you know, Davina, the witch I have yet to meet, doesn't trust you nor Elijah. To get her on our side, Elijah wants to show her that she can trust us. But even if she trusts Elijah, she won't trust you, which is what I will be there for. I'm going to try and convince her to trust us, Klaus. To ensure that she won't harm any of our family or our children," Eliza answered. Instantly, Eliza could see the dislike on Klaus' expression and knew he was going to protest.

" And you agreed to this? You'll risk your own and the babies lives to gain the trust of a witch who, may I point out, I can kill anytime I want!"

Eliza rolled her eyes at him. " Elijah will be there to protect me and Davina won't do anything. Unlike you, Klaus, I'm a very like-able person, she'll trust me. We need a good witch on our side."

Klaus seemed to be relenting, but before he finally gave in, Klaus stormed up to his brother." If you let anything happen to her, I won't hesitate to stick another dagger through your heart."

" Klaus!" Eliza shouted while frowning.

" I would protect Eliza with my life, even without your... superfluous threat." Elijah nodded once before turning his attention to Eliza. " The longer we remain, the more likely it will be that Davina informs Marcel of my mysterious disappearance,"

" Let's go then," Elijah began to head towards the car. With a final glance at Klaus, Eliza began to walk too. She only made it two steps before Klaus quickly grabbed her arm softly, looking at her with pleading eyes.

" Stay safe for me, sweetheart," Klaus whispered. Eliza could feel his warm breath on her face and it affected her in ways she didn't want it to." I love you."

" I wish I could say the same back..."

" You returned. I'm surprised," Davina said in a confused tone. Her voice was very sweet and soft, making Eliza believe that she must only be young; 16, maybe? The vulnerability in her voice reminded Eliza of herself as an innocent human.

" You will soon come to learn, Davina, that I am a man of my word," Elijah told her truthfully. Eliza hadn't yet revealed herself and was lingering outside the door, listening in on the conversation. Earlier, Elijah had informed her that he would first convince Davina to actually let her in; infiltrating Davina's home would only make her trust Eliza less.

" You're the one they call honourable," Davina said.

" Yes, that's what they call me. And yet, I followed my brother's love here to New Orleans to protect her from harm's way, yet when my brother returns, I engage myself in a war rather than do the latter. So, I ask you: does that sound honorable to you?" Eliza frowned upon hearing this but willed herself to think nothing of it.

" Your brother has a girlfriend?" A frown formed on Davina's face.

" Ex-girlfriend, as people in the modern era phrase it. As you probably may understand, my brother isn't skilled in portraying his feelings," Elijah said. " However, Eliza Petrova, the girl I was referring to, is very eager to meet you, Davina."

" Me?" At first Davina seemed confused. " She's here, isn't she? You brought her here to convince me to trust you instead of Marcel!" Davina accused.

" I am doing no such thing, Davina. All I want is to be friends, to let you see that you can trust us. Eliza is the most sefless of us all; the kindest, the one of us that you will like the most," Elijah explained. " Davina, I believe that you, Eliza and I have the power to end a war between witches and vampires before it truly begins. Eliza and I, by keeping my brother in line; you, by behaving like your true self—not some tool for Marcel or the witches."

" And why should I trust you?" Davina questioned.

" Well, for one, I have done nothing to harm or hurt you in anyway, Davina. However, if you will not trust me, trust Eliza. Are you willing to, at the very least, meet her?"

Upon Elijah saying this, suddenly, the door flew open, revealing a waiting, shocked Eliza. Davina's eyes instantly landed suspiciously on Eliza and she studied her, debating whether she was dangerous or not. Kindly, Eliza smiled and hesitantly stepped into the room. Seemingly surprised by the hesitation, Davina's suspicion seemed to die down a little, and the tension dropped slightly. Elijah smiled slightly as he sensed this.

" Hi..." Eliza said, stepping further into the room and closer towards Elijah. " I'm Eliza, I don't believe we've met. Davina, right?" Eliza held out her hand.

Davina glanced down, her eyes widening in surprise. After a moments thought, Davina shyly shook Eliza's hand. " Yes." She replied, her voice sounding higher and sweeter; even more innocent than before." You're human... I thought-"

" That Klaus would only ever date or vampire? I was a vampire before, then I died, now I'm human." Eliza shrugged. Letting someone in on your secrets and your past was the best way to get them to trust you." In fact, I'm pregnant. Giving birth to the spawn of the devil as Agnes and Sabine would probably put it..." Eliza grumbled.

" You're friends with them?" Davina took a distrusting step back.

" After they sent me down to a clinic in the Bayou and sent a bunch of witches out to kill me? I don't think so. I only just managed to escape," Eliza said and Davina seemed to relax again, but an annoyed expression formed on her face.

" They're all liars, the lot of them,"

" You dislike the witches, why is that?" Elijah involved himself in the conversation again.

" They don't seem the nicest of people, but surely they wouldn't be unkind to one of their own?" Eliza questioned.

" They made me and my friends do this Harvest ritual. They said our participation would bring our family strength, health... that we'd forever be celebrated as saviors of the community. But all they really wanted was more power. So, I left before they could get it. Now, they're running out of time, because after the Harvest, comes the Reaping. And if they don't complete the Harvest, there won't be a Reaping. Soon, all the witches in the Quarter will start to lose their power. Eventually, they will cease to be witches altogether,"

" A harvest? But what is it that they have to do to complete it?" Eliza asked, taking in the new information.

" They have to kill me," A gasp of horror escaped Eliza's lips as Davina said this. Elijah too seemed taken a back by this.

" Enlighten me with what that encompasses," Elijah said, knowing that Eliza was too shocked to ask.

" I have to die, it's a simple as that. That's was the Harvest was. They said they'd put us four girls in a state of, like, peaceful limbo as part of the offering. And then later, at the Reaping, we'd awaken and be reborn. I never got as far as the limbo part, which means the Harvest isn't complete. That's why the witches are so freaked out. The Reaping is just around the corner, and if they don't finish it before then, it's over. All I have to do is wait it out." Davina explained further.

" And then what?" Eliza asked, finally regaining her words.

" They're punished, I'm free,"

" From Marcel?" Elijah asked, this seemed to annoy Davina.

" From magic. All our power will drain away, I'll be normal," Davina smiled at the thought of this.

" I knew the witches were a little more corrupt here but not enough to murder innocent children..." Eliza muttered to herself.

" You'd be surprised what they'd do to prevent our power from leaving us," Davina answered.

" They'll stop at nothing, just like Klaus. Trust me when I say I've met a lot of those types of people." Eliza said. " I'm not surprised you want to be normal, it's another thing we have in common."

" I just don't want to be what I am. I can't... control it sometimes, I-I hurt people. Even when I don't mean to!" Eliza could see the tears forming in Davina's eyes.

" Hey..." Eliza approached Davina and placed a comforting arm around her. Surprisingly, Davina didn't reject this and accepted the one arm hug. Elijah smiled at the two; the plan was working. " I've been through that to. When I first became a vampire, I couldn't control it... I killed people that I didn't want to kill, I lost control. But I got help, and that's something that I see you don't have, Davina... Let me help you,"

" Help me? But, how? You don't know magic..."Davina said with a frown. It pleased Eliza that Davina seemed to trust her already, even though they had only been speaking for maybe 20 minutes. It had been an hour since she had arrived here.

" But Elijah and Klaus' mother did, she was a powerful witch who, surprisingly, also tried to kill me. She has a ton of grimoires that I'm sure Elijah will be happy to lend to you, right Elijah?" Eliza asked, pulling away from Davina and sitting her down on her own bed.

" They are no use to any of us, they should prove useful when learning to control your powers. I can teach you how to master them, how to not harm anyone that you don't wish to," Elijah said.

" But why would you do that? I'm with Marcel, I'm-"

" The enemy? No, Davina, you're not. I want to be your friend, I could do with some more girl friends and I'm sure you can to. We have a common hatred for the witches of this town, we both hate hurting people..." Eliza said.

" But you're with Klaus-"

" And Klaus won't hurt you if I tell him not to, I won't let him harm you, Davina. You're an innocent girl caught up in a war that you should have never been involved in. I just want to help you," A small smile played on Eliza's lips, causing Davina to smile back.

" How is a person like you with someone like Klaus?" Davina asked, seemingly confused.

" Who knows? Love is a strange thing, Davina. Maybe you and this guy of yours, Tim right? Maybe you can someday be together," Eliza suggested.

Elijah smiled while watching the two, as they chatted as if they were already friends.

" How do you know about-?" Davina was cut off by a sharp gasp of breath from Eliza. Instantly, Elijah was on full alert as Eliza clutched her neck, seeming as if she was choking.

" Eliza..." Elijah approached her quickly, seeing that her air supply was being cut off.

" I-I..." Eliza tried to speak but couldn't form the words; her airways had suddenly cut off without even a seconds worth of notice." C-Choke... N-Not f-fault..."

" What's happening? Have I done something to her?" Davina asked in a seriously panicked tone, watching as Eliza continued to loose air. Soon Eliza fell back on Davina's bed, still clutching her throat.

" No, this is not your doing. However, there is a way you can help,"

" But... But how? I can't control it!"

" Just concentrate on her... Concentrate on wanting her to breath again. You can control this, Davina," Elijah encouraged.

With a short nod, Davina took in a deep breath and closed her eyes, placing one hand on Eliza's free hand. For a few moments, Davina seemed to concentrate hard while Elijah continued to panic about Eliza's life. A large gasp of breath caused Davina to snap out of it. Just as Eliza finally regained her breath, she collapsed full on the bed while she fell into a dark unconsciousness...
