Chapter 4

APOV

My head was spinning from that dance session. Now my mission for the rest of the night was to find this mystery girl. From the looks of her hair and her stand-out necklace, I recognized her to be my locker mate, but I had no idea what her name was. It had to be something with a "K", obviously. As soon as I saw Shane, I ran to tell him of my adventures on the dance floor.

"Hey, there you are, I lost you on the floor." Shane greeted.

"I just had this amazing moment with this girl." I blurted out.

A surprised look came across Shane's face. "Do tell."

I then explained to him how touchy and flirty we were on the floor. And also, I had no idea who she was.

"Kind of regretting this whole Masquerade thing, huh?" he asked.

"Just a little bit." I laughed.

"Well maybe the Gay Gods and Goddesses will be here to guide you to her tonight. What was she wearing?"

"A white dress." I replied while searching in the crowd. "She has brownish-red hair and a 'K' necklace."

Shane now had a confused look on his face. From that weak description he had no idea who I was talking about.

"Amy, honey, you just described about half of Hester's female student body." he let me down. "However, I will make it my mission to help you find her."

We then spent the rest of the night looking for this girl. Unfortunately, we couldn't find her. Of course, this type of thing would only happen to me. She must've disappeared into thin air. The rest of my night seemed ruined and I could only feel down.

"Any luck?" Shane asked.

I simply shook my head in disappointment.

"You said she has a locker next to yours?"

"Yes, she smiled at me on my first day. I know it was her. It has to be." I replied.

"Okay, well there's your solution! Talk to her on Monday."

Shane really didn't know much about me. He really didn't know that I was a very impatient, person.

"Sure." was all I said.

After all of the guest left, I hung out with Liam and Shane. Liam was bragging that he nearly had sex with a girl in the bathroom but was interrupted by her massive amount of vomit. At around 1 A.M. Lauren had to drag me out of Liam's house. She was a bitch, but if it weren't for her being there, I would have stayed at that house until all hours of the night, and had been grounded for the rest of my life. When we arrived home, my mom was still awake.

"I thought I told you girls that your curfew was midnight?" she quietly yelled.

Lauren and I both looked at each other weirdly.

"You actually never gave us one, mom." I said.

My mom just stared blankly.

"Well, uh, I expect you girls to be up at 9 A.M. for church this morning." she replied.

Lauren and I both rolled our eyes and nodded in agreeance. Church? Not my thing. Especially a church in the most homophobic state in the US.

I only got about 5 hours of sleep, since I had to be up at the butt crack of dawn. My mom and Lauren both wore dresses while I wore jeans and a blouse. I made my protest about church known in the way I dressed. Zero fucks given. I began to fall asleep in the car, when Bruce woke me up.

"Time to tell The Lord how thankful you are, Amy." he said as he found a parking spot.

"Bite me." I said quietly to myself.

We filed into the church and to me, it just looked like a huge mansion with a cross in the middle. Nothing special. Nothing new. Since Bruce was well known in Austin already, we sat in the front with his fellow parishioners. The service began and Reverend Ashcroft began to speak about how Jesus is everyone's savior. I began to let my mind wonder shortly after he began to speak so I really didn't get his message nor did I care to.

"And now, my Brothers and Sisters, let us sing in the name of The Lord. Karma, my lovely and talented daughter will lead today's songs." Reverend Ashcroft finished and everyone began to stand.

I was half asleep but was suddenly woken up by a startling discovery. The girl leading the choir looked awfully familiar.
