Zane's P.O.V.
I raised an eyebrow at Jay's sudden outburst, while Cole shook his head disappointedly. Nya just rolled her eyes, albeit a smile was on her face. It was actually the first time Nya smiled since she came here with us. Sensei turned slowly and glared at Jay. Sensei looked about ready to kill Jay on the spot.
"Jay, please shut up." Sensei hissed. Jay yelped and hid behind Cole.
"Okay." He muttered. Sensei huffed and muttered a few curses under his breath before he turned back to Kai.
"Kai, I know you're still in there. It's—" He gaped and it was only then did we all notice...
...Kai was gone.
"Where did he go?" Cole asked. I walked over to where Kai was previously standing. There was no trace of him. It seemed as if he had vanished into thin air. I turned around, going back to my comrades.
"There was no sign of his—" I was abruptly stopped and gasped. I lost my footing and fell through a hole that seemed to come out of nowhere. I heard the others call my name.
"ZANE!"
The light coming from the hole I fell from was suddenly blocked by sand. I blinked. For a moment, everything was dark and I couldn't move. My whole body ached. I forced myself up. I blinked a few times before my vision finally cleared. I dusted myself off and observed my surroundings. I was in some kind of experimental lab. I squinted my eyes.
This place seemed awfully strange compared to the ancient ruins of Ouroboros...
I glanced at the walls to see if there was a light switch, but there seemed to be none.
"Zane, can you hear me?!" Sensei Wu called. I looked up.
"I'm alright!" I called back. "You all may want to see this." After a few seconds, Cole landed—er, crashed. I ran over to help him up, but then Jay and Nya came crashing down on him. Sensei landed gracefully on them, dusting himself off. Once he saw his surroundings, his eyes widened. He jumped off of the pile of red, blue, and black to better observe his surroundings.
"Hm, what a very peculiar place." Sensei Wu said, observing the various gadgets and gizmos. I helped Nya and the others stand up. Jay groaned as he dusted himself off.
"Next time we go on missions like this, can we all try to stop crashing?" Jay complained. Cole rolled his eyes.
"At least you weren't on the bottom of the pile." Cole argued. I sighed. Must my brothers argue even at this time?
"What is this place?" Nya asked, squinting her eyes. "It's too dark. Anybody got some flashlights?" Jay smirked and pulled out his nunchucks.
"Maybe this will help?" He asked, more of a statement than a question. I raised an eyebrow.
"We need light, Jay, not lightning." Cole stated plainly.
"Uh yeah, and what do you need to power lightbulbs?" He said, gesturing to the lightbulbs above us. Nya smiled, which was a good sign that she was feeling better.
"Great idea Jay!" She complimented. Jay blushed a light pink.
"Uh...y-yeah, thanks." He stuttered. Cole rolled his eyes.
"Well? Go on lover-boy, light 'em up!" He said. Jay nodded. Electricity surged through his nunchucks. I could feel even from here the static it produced. Jay unleashed the lightning and true enough, the lightbulbs started to glow...
...But they seemed to have too much power.
Soon, the lightbulbs started exploding one at a time. Jay chuckled nervously.
"Oops?" He said wearily. Cole stared at Jay plainly.
"Nice job, lover-boy. You just destroyed the lights!" He scolded.
"Hey, it wasn't my fault!" Jay defended.
"Yeah it was. You—"
"Enough!" Sensei exclaimed, infuriated. Both ninja instantly became quiet. "We will get nowhere with all this fighting..." As Sensei proceeded to scold my brothers, I walked over to a messy table filled with different types of files about failed inventions. There was one though, that caught my eye.
DNA ALTERATION
I took the file and examined it. It looked like the most recent and used file. Beside it was an empty syringe. I took the syringe, squinting my eyes to see it clearer. It had a few splotches of green liquid inside it. I frowned. I had a very bad feeling about it. I glanced at my comrades. Sensei Wu still wasn't done scolding Jay and Cole, and Nya was nowhere in sight. I sighed. I should just tell them later. I put the syringe back on the table and read the file.
This new and improved formula will revolutionize the Fangpyre's venom. I lessened the snake mutation properties to make way to the reverse engineered and modified sample of hypnomicus (the hypnotic property in Hypnobrai). This venom—
There was an abrupt quake, halting me from my reading.I moved my attention to my teammates. Cole, Jay, and Sensei were fine, and luckily Nya was back in sight. Once I made sure they were safe, I ran to the entrance we came in. I was followed by the others. I froze (no pun intended) when I saw that it was blocked. They seemed to notice too.
"The exit is blocked! How do we get out of here?!" Nya exclaimed. I scanned the area. There was a crumbling part of a cave that seemed to be the entrance of a tunnel, but it was quite small. The odds of that tunnel leading to a safer place was quite small...and the odds of us getting out of here alive was even smaller...but it was our only choice. We had to at least try.
"Over there!" I shouted, leading them to the tunnel. "We have a 10% chance of surviving if we go through here." They looked at me wearily.
"...And the other 90%?" Jay asked, although it seemed he knew the answer. I swallowed the saliva forming in my stomach and forced a smile.
"We are ninja. We have been through worse." I assured. Although they were still unsure, they all crawled through the tunnel one by one. I was the last, seeing the strange lab fall apart. I had no regrets whatsoever in leaving it...
...That of course, until a sick sensation filled my stomach.
I gasped. It was my sixth sense. It is telling me that something inside there was the key to Kai's antidote. I widened my eyes. I was just about to go back when something grabbed my shoulder.
"Zane, come on!" Cole ordered. I glanced back at the lab wearily, but eventually cimbed inside the tunnel. I tried not to show my teammates my anxiety and worry. It is better if they do not get their hopes crushed more than it already is. Still, I felt like there were rocks inside my stomach. Kai's key to freedom was in that lab, and that laboratory is being destroyed at this second.
We might as well call Kai incurable.
Um guys...Sorry for the filler. I know, I'm so cruel right? Well, I'm better working on fillers than fight scenes, so yeah. Anyway, review please!
