That awkward moment when your very religious grandmother wants to read your fanfiction, and you manage to convince her it would be too confusing to understand. I'm a genius!
Situation
Chapter 49: Achoo!
A sneeze wakes me up before I start coughing. It takes a moment for me to settle down, but when I do, I notice my throat is sore.
"Allen, are you okay?" Kanda asks, setting his book to the side and sitting up. Nodding, I reply, "Yeah, I'm fine."
My voice was hoarse and it was hard to get the words out, and I try to clear my throat. It was pointless though. Forcing me to sit up, Kanda presses his forehead to mine and mutters, "You've got a serious fever."
"Then you could catch it, too!" I say, pulling away, but he brings me back, stroking my hair. Shaking his head, he says, "I don't get sick, and you know that."
Rubbing my baby bump, I ask, "What about her?"
Standing and walking into the bathroom, the bluenette says, "It won't hurt her, but you need to go to the infirmary."
"No!" I object, taking the glass of water he had brought me and sipping at the liquid. "I'll be okay!"
"Shut up, and get dressed. I don't care if I have to carry you, because I will," he threatens, tossing some clothes to me from my and his dresser. Pouting with my ears against my head, I slip on the underwear and jeans, making sure my tail was tucked into them, and then I pull on his shirt, buttoning it up. My stomach had swelled so much that I couldn't wear my turtlenecks because they were too tight, but I didn't mind. It's a new excuse to wear Kanda's shirt!
Honestly, I felt like utter crap at the moment, and as soon as I had the clothes on, I curl up under the blankets again, closing my heavy eyes.
Everyone else in the Order had lost their ears and tails at this point, so I had to hide mine again, but they didn't bother me as much as they were before. The bed sinks down ever so slightly after a few moments before a cold nose is pressed to my forehead, and Ice hops onto my side, "massaging" me with her paw and crying, "Daddy feels bad, meow?"
"I'm fine, Ice. Kanda's just overreacting like the worrier he is," I insist, knowing I'm being glared at by said worrier even though my eyes are shut. The next time the bed sinks, Ice has to leap off me, and I feel a warm, calloused hand caressing my cheek. Continuing to baby me, my boyfriend asks, "Seriously, do you want me to carry you?"
Sitting up with my feet on the floor to his right, I shake my head, "It's just a cold, Kanda. I think I can make it to the infirmary."
Not waiting for a reply, I stand from the bed, intending to go put my boots on, but as soon as my head's altitude changed, my vision began to swim. It wasn't that bad even though it was hard to find my balance, because it wasn't as much the dizziness as it was my calves feeling clenched. Basically, I felt like jell-o.
In less than a second, I could feel strong arms around me and Kanda's chest in front of me as I lean against him, closing my eyes because I was getting a headache, and the bluenette sarcastically says, "Yeah, you can walk to the infirmary, Baka."
Remaining silent, I allow him to reach an arm down and hook it under my knees, picking me up bridal style as I rest my head on his shoulder with my hands laced together around his neck. Quietly so I wouldn't irritate my throat more than necessary, I ask, "Aren't I heavy?"
"No," he chuckles as we leave the room. "Allen, I can bench press two-hundred pounds. It's easy to carry a sprout like you."
Gaping, I repeat, "Two-hundred pounds?!"
He doesn't reply, and I didn't mind that the conversation died there. My throat felt like every time I swallowed or spoke that there was a sewing needle poking around, and needless to say, it wasn't a good feeling.
From the looks of the sky, I think that it wasn't past eight in the morning, so most people were in the cafeteria, but I wasn't all that hungry at the moment believe it or not. Whimpering quietly, I nuzzle my face into Kanda's shoulder as we near the infirmary, and when the door opens, I immediately hear, "What's wrong with him?! Is it the baby?!"
"No, now shut up and tell me where to put him," Kanda growled, not leaving room for questions. No one answered, but my boyfriend started walking, so I assume that he was directed to a bed. When he stops again, he sweetly whispers, "Let go for a second."
After I'm unlatched from him, Kanda lowers me to the bed that was under me, and I lay down, shivering from the cold of the bed. Two minutes later, Kanda's sitting in a plastic chair beside me and a nurse was making her way over to me with a blood pressure monitor. She was about as tall as Lenalee, had a brown pixie-cut, blue eyes, and was wearing a typical, white nurse uniform.
"So Mister Walker," she began. Shaking my head, I correct in a hoarse voice, "Allen is fine."
Eyes seeming to shine for a moment, she giggles, "Okay, Allen, when did you notice you were sick?"
As I tell her this morning, out of the corner of my eye I see Kanda glaring at the brunette like she was the Millennium Earl. Wait, no, that wasn't the look he was giving her. Oh great, he was giving her the "back off chick, he belongs to me" look. The nurse, Bella, asked for my arm and put the wrap around it before pushing a couple of different buttons on the monitor. Maybe, if she was lucky, she might leave unscathed if Kanda didn't think she was making a move on me, which he tends to always think people are hitting on me.
Apparently I had a good blood pressure, not that I really cared, and she moved to take off the wrap. Honestly, I believe that Bella has a death wish, because as she removed the wrap, I think she was feeling my muscle, but I didn't mind that much since I wasn't paying much attention to it. A certain bluenette did notice though, and he minded, to say the absolute least.
"Are you new here, what was it, Bella?" Kanda asked, and from the nice tone he used, I knew something was about to go down. The nurse nodded, "Yes, I just started two days ago. Nice to meet you, Mister…"
Eyes darkening, he growls, "Kanda, Allen's extremely possessive boyfriend."
Startled by the new information, Bella jumps away from me, bowing and apologizing, "I'm really sorry!"
Kanda mutters something about idiot girls under his breath as I cough, "It's…fine, Bell…a…"
"I need to get your temperature," she says quickly, sticking what I'm hoping is a thermometer in my ear. Well, if she stuck anything other than a thermometer in my ear there could be issues of what the thing was and why she was probing my ear with it. Hearing a beep, Bella removes the thing, saying, "You're sick alright. You've got a temperature of a hundred and five."
"Baka Moyashi, that's why you don't go running around barefoot with Lavi at midnight," Kanda says, rolling his eyes.
"Hey! He said he dropped his wallet!" I protest, glaring at my smirking boyfriend, but my voice only came out in a whisper. Interrupting our petty argument, Bella says, "It's just a cold, no medicine required. Get plenty of rest, eat warm things, and no…err…extensive physical activities."
My face flushed strawberry at the last part, but Kanda just smirked, "It wouldn't be fun if he's sick. He can't talk as it is, let alone scream f―"
"Shut up, Kanda!" I shout best I can, resulting in a coughing fit. Standing from the chair and sitting on the bed, he waits until my coughing has ceased before caressing my hair and teasing, "You're the one who needs to shut up. Yelling at me won't help you get better."
Leaning into his touch, I mutter, "I know that, idiot."
To my relief, I get to stay in Kanda's and my room, and it doesn't take more than a few minutes for Kanda to be carrying me toward the cafeteria for breakfast. For the record, I tried to walk, emphasis on try. Kanda didn't trust me with it to begin with so when I nearly face-planted, he caught me.
"Can't you put me down before we get there? This is embarrassing, Kanda!" I complain quietly, hiding my face in his shoulder. Chuckling, he says, "No, I'm putting you in a chair myself."
Whimpering, I say nothing more, finding myself surprisingly comfortable in his arms, though I guess it wasn't all that surprising. In about thirty minutes, I was sitting with my head on the table, waiting for Kanda to finish his soba so I could sleep.
"So Allen, is it upsetting that you can't seduce Kanda while you're sickly?" Lavi laughs, narrowly missing the apple I throw at his head.
"Why does every conversation go back to my sex life?!" I growl the best I can before coughing. Far too amused for my liking, the rabbit says, "Your bark is much worse than your bite, Moyashi."
"No, I sometimes think I'm getting attacked by a tiger," Kanda mutters.
"You aren't helping!" I say. "Just shut up and eat your soba."
"I'm done, but I might just leave you to sleep in here on the table," he threatened, earning laughter from Lenalee and her boyfriend. Facing the bluenette, I say, "Fine, and if you do then I can always get Bella to help me. I'm sure if I got chills I wouldn't have a hard time finding someone to cuddle with me and keep me warm. Oh, and I could host a party and bring in a stripper pole―"
"You've made your point," Kanda said, standing and taking me with him. Looking over his shoulder, I mouth to Lenalee, "Help!"
This was quickly followed by coughs and chills, shivers running through me as I try to press myself closer to Kanda. Taking the hint, he quickens his pace slightly, and I try to distract myself with swatting his hair.
Before I knew it, our door was shut behind us and I was dropped on the bed, scurrying to get under the blankets. Kanda presses his forehead to mine and mutters, "Your fever hasn't gone down at all."
"It's just a cold. It'll be gone in a few days," I remind him, my voice hardly a whisper because I was so congested. Pulling away, he sits on the edge of the bed.
"I want a bath," I think aloud, pondering whether or not I should act on the desire. Glancing at me, Kanda asks, "Are you going to take one then?"
Smiling, I reply, "I don't know. Will you baby me if I do?"
Sighing, he digs me out of the blankets and takes me in his arms. While he carries me into the bathroom and sets me on the vanity, he says, "If I must, yes."
"Thank you, Kanda," I croak, barely holding back the coughs, and he moves to the shower, the sound of water running from the bath faucet filling the air. Somehow, the door managed to close on its own while I was sitting there, but before I could be creeped out, I hear, "Is Daddy better, meow?"
Sadly, I look down at the she-cat in the floor and culprit of the mysterious door closing, "No, Ice, Daddy still feels pretty bad."
"Then you need to stop talking so your throat won't feel so raw," Kanda said, coming back from the bath naked. My face was already red from fever so I prayed that he didn't notice the extra strawberry coloring, but the smirk he had told me different as he moved to the vanity, unleashed hair trailing behind him. Once he was in front of me, I looked to the side, "I know; I shouldn't be getting all worked up over seeing you naked."
"No, I take it as a compliment. Besides, you look adorable when you blush, Kitten," he said, cradling my cheek before letting his hands begin busying themselves on my shirt buttons. More blood flowed to my face as I protest, "H-hey! They said we couldn't have s-sex!"
Raising an eyebrow at me, Kanda explains, "I wasn't planning on sex. You wanted me to baby you, right?"
Recalling the words, I continue, "But I can undress myself!"
After the last of the hoarse words left my mouth, I started coughing, and it takes a moment of the horrid action and Kanda rubbing my chest for me to settle again.
"Just be quiet and relax," my boyfriend quietly soothed, coaxing me to lean back on the wall mirror while he set to work again on my buttons. His fingers were really warm, not that I was paying attention or anything, and whenever they brushed my skin, I couldn't help but shiver from the comparison of the cool air. Soon, all my clothes were in a pile in the corner. Don't ask how I made it through him taking off my pants and underwear, because I don't know myself.
While Kanda checks the water, I slide off the vanity, gripping the wall that separates the shower view from the sinks for support. My vision was still a bit screwy, but I could keep enough in check to walk around, which was all I really needed at the moment. It takes some wobbling and putting out my arms for balance, but I still make it to the side of the tub, sitting on the edge and doing my best version of a smirk at Kanda as he looks at me.
"Ha! I did it without your help!" I say, my throat sore but my coughs seeming to be leaving me in peace for now. Raising an eyebrow, he asks, "You went to all that trouble just to prove you didn't need my help?"
Now I realize how stupid that sounds, but regardless I puff out my chest, "Yeah!"
Chuckling, the samurai steps into the tub filled with hot water and I follow shortly after I test the temperature with my tail, causing more laughs to come from my boyfriend. Once I'm comfortable, I hear before I feel the jets on my back, and I release a sated sigh through my parted lips.
"I hope that means it met your standards," Kanda says from across from me, our legs brushing from being side by side.
"No," I say, giggling when he seemed disappointed. "You surpassed them."
"I guess I'll take that," he replies, adjusting one of the jets that was hitting his lower back. Nodding, I was about to close my eyes when I notice a small bottle on the edge of the tub next to Kanda's hair care products, and though I wasn't sure if I wanted to know, I ask, "What's that?"
Following my gaze, Kanda says, "It's massage oil, purposely bought with a scent that smells a lot like Moonlight Mist."
"For the last time, no sex!" I say, splashing him a little to get the point across. Laughing, he counters, "If that's the first thing you think of, it must be on your mind an awful lot, Kitten."
Not waiting for me to reply since it would only be incoherent phrases, he continues, "I thought it might help you breathe better if I gave you a back massage, but―"
"No, that's fine," I interrupt, looking anywhere but his face as I turn around and face the wall.
Author Note: I decided to cut this short so it won't go over my usual maximum and add it to the next one. Also, I need suggestions for what they need to buy for the baby, because I obviously have no personal experience or from friends or anything like that. So, please help with that and please, Please, PLEASE R/R!
