Chapter 8: Family & Spells

(Tori's Pov)

I walked back to the attic and I closed the door gently. I push my back against the door and I slowly lowered myself to the floor.

I told Paige that I was tired which was true, well kind-of. The truth is that I felt something for her. A family connection. When I saw a little sadness in her eyes I immediately wanted to console her. I felt like I could tell her everything and she would listen to me. I finally admitted out loud that I was adopted. It hadn't sunk into me completely. I tried not to think too much about it, but when Paige told me that she was also adopted everything came crashing down to me.

"What are you thinking so hard about?" I look up to see the ghost that I had completely forgot about.

"Nothing." I told her and she raised her eyebrow.

"Don't think too much about it." She tells me as she takes a seat next to me. She leans on the wall and I was actually surprised that she didn't went through it.

She looked at my confused expression and she laughed for the first time. "I can control it you know. After all if I couldn't I would be falling through the attic."

I blushed as I whispered my reply. "I knew that." She laughs again.

"But seriously, does it even matter if you are adopted? The people who raised you are your parents even if you are not blood related. So what if someone left you, they probably had their reasons." She tells me and I'm speechless for a few minutes.

First she was mean to me, then she helps me with Cat, and now she's consoling me? She's such a confusing ghost.

I blurt my confusion. "Why do you care?" I tell her and she looks deep into my eyes.

"You don't seem like a bad person. You are part whitelighter, and part demon, as far as Phoebe knows, but I believe that you are also part witch. So you cannot be all that bad if you have some good in you." She tells me. It doesn't even surprised me that I'm part witch too. After all she's the living proof that I can cast spells.

I'm more surprised that I feel the same connection that I felt with Paige. No, it feels close to it. I feel like I could trust her, and that she could help me, but it doesn't feel as strong as it does with Paige. Maybe she could help me figure out who I am?

I look back at the old couch and I see Jade asleep. Even after I appeared in her room at the middle of the night and disappear the next day in front of her, Jade is still here for me. She doesn't care what I am. She accepted me for who I was.

I blush as I remember her kiss, it was so gentle.

I hear a chuckle beside me. "You're thinking about sleeping beauty over there?" I blush and she laughs. I had completely forgot that she's stuck to me and she saw us kissing.

"I'm not. I'm just wondering how can she look so relaxed." I mumble a weak reply. She decides to end my embarrassment by changing the topic.

"Do you want to learn how to make potions?" She asks me as she stands up in front of me with her hand stretch.

"You know how to?" I ask and she nods.

"I was pretty good at it when I was alive." She tells me and I look at her hand before taking it. She pulls me up with a strong grip. If it wasn't for her cold hand and her transparent body I wouldn't know she was a ghost.

"But is it okay to do it at this time?" I woke up at two thirty. So it's probably like three or four in the morning.

"Sure, this is the perfect time. Every time I stressed over something I would come here to the attic and just read the Book of Shadows or learn how to make certain potions. Once you know the basic you can create your own." She tells me.

I look at her confused. She came here to the attic? Does that mean that she's from here?

"You came to the attic?" I ask her.

"Yeah, this was my home when I was alive." She said it with a little sadness in her eyes.

"So you know Piper, Phoebe, and Paige?" I ask her and she shakes her head.

"Yes and no." She tells me as she gives me a hard look.

"What does that mean?" I ask and she sighs.

"It means that I don't want to talk about it." She answers me with a cold voice.

"Sorry I didn't mean to pry." I tell her and let go of her hand.

"No, I should be the one apologizing. I know you are just curious but it's a little personal." She tells me and I nod silently. We stand there awkwardly for a few seconds before I decide to go back to our previous conversation.

"If we are going to create a potion won't we wake up Jade?" She shakes her head as she grabbed some vials.

"We are not actually creating one. I'm just going to teach you the basics. And even if we did create a potion I don't think we could wake her. She's in a deep sleep. If she hasn't woke up to your conversation, then she won't wake up." She tells me as she beckons me to come closer.

"My conversation?" She smirks.

"Yes, she can't see or hear me. So to anyone else it probably looks like you're talking to yourself." I actually haven't thought of that.

"First lesson. Do you know what a potion is?" She asks me and I shake my head.

"Okay. Technically a potion is a liquid which when consumed or spilled can give a person a power or ability or it can also be used to vanquish demons. While a potion normally is a liquid it can also be a powder or gels." She says as she goes to a business like voice.

"So what kind of potion are we making?" She puts the vials in front of me and gives me one.

"None. You're second lesson is to learn what it is in this vial." She cannot be serious right? It's a weird color how am I supposed to know?

"What?" I ask and she gestures to the big book.

"That potion is listed in the book of shadows. If you can figure out what it is I'll let you read a spell that will make you understand everyone better." I look at her confused.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"It's a spell that will show you the truth. If the sisters know something about who you are and if you ask the right question you will know the truth." She tells me.

"Okay." That doesn't sound so bad it's actually a good idea.

I reach for the book and it opened by itself the pages turn and stop on a vanquishing potion.

"Grams, that's not fair." I barely hear the ghost talking.

I look back at the potion then at the book and shrug. "It's a potion to vanquish a Warlock." I tell her and she nods.

"Yeah, though you cheated." She tells me.

"How did I cheat? It's not my fault the book decided to help me." She shakes her head.

"It kind of is. If someone had not being meddling then you wouldn't have found it or at least not as fast." She says as she looks up.

"Okay, so I don't get to say the spell?" I ask and she sighs.

"A deal is a deal." She stands behind me and turns the pages until it lands on the Truth Spell.

"Read it." She tells me.

I look at her and then back at the book. Well here goes nothing. "For those who want the truth revealed, opened hearts and secrets unsealed, from now until it's now again. After which the memory ends. Those who now are in this house, will hear the truth from other's mouth."

I don't know what I was waiting for but I at least expected to feel something different but nothing. I look at her confused and she gave me a knowing smile.

"Did it work?" I ask and she nodded.

"Yeah, it did." I look at her confused. It felt weird that everything seemed normal. I look at the ghost again and I shook my head. At least when I cast this spell I didn't get a ghost.

"So, what now?" I ask her and she looks at Jade.

"Now you sleep, you look paler than me." She tells me as she gently moves Jade to make room for me. It's a good thing that the couch is big enough for the both of us.

"What about the spell?" I ask as I lay down by Jade.

"It will still work tomorrow don't worry." I nod my head. My fatigue finally getting to me. I felt exhausted and completely drained I barely heard the ghost tell me goodnight.

I didn't have any weird dreams and I finally had a peaceful sleep. Well until someone jumped on top of me.

I opened my eyes to see Cat on top of me. "Cat, it's too early for this, go away." I heard a loud whine from behind me and that's when I notice that Jade was completely spooning me.

"No, it's already eleven! I brought you some clothes. And Piper, Phoebe and Paige have some questions for both of you." Jade groans as she holds me tighter.

"Well, I don't care. I'm too comfortable to move. Tell them to wait." Jade answers.

"No, Jadey. It's important please?" Cat says and Jade sighs.

"Fine, we will be there in a few minutes get my coffee ready." Cat immediately stands up and runs to the door. She looks at us before leaving.

"You guys make a cute couple. I always knew you would look great together!" She exclaims with happiness as she leaves the attic.

I blush and Jade chuckles. I try to stand up but she holds me tighter.

"Are you better Vega?" She asks and I nod.

"Yeah, thank you for yesterday." I tell her. She doesn't say anything instead she kisses my neck and I blush.

"I'll always be here for you. So don't think too much about it. I love you just the way you are." She tells me and she suddenly stands up. Are eyes lock and I can see disbelieve in her eyes, like she didn't mean to say that. She tries to get away but I hold her arm and she looks at me.

"I love you too." I tell her and she slowly leans down and kisses me just as gentle as our first kiss.

We hear a knock at the door and by the time the door opens both me and Jade are on opposite sides of the couch.

Piper enters and she looks between us. "We already put some extra towels and all the other necessary utilities in the bathroom so you girls could take a bath if you want."

She doesn't wait for our answer as she leaves the door. Me and Jade look at each other and before we could say anything Piper opens the door. "And even though it's nice to see young love. There are still rules in this house so just because I said that you girls could take a bath I didn't mean together. So I don't want to hear any weird noises okay?" She tells us with amusement in her eyes. She closes the door and I blush a deep shake of red. I look at Jade and I see a barely faint blush.

I hear a chuckle and I turn around to see the ghost smirking.

"It seems she's not too upset about the spell, if she's teasing you both." She tells me and before I could say something she raises her index finger to her lips. Silently telling me to not answer her.

I look back at Jade and she's already grabbed her clothes.

"Seeing as how we can't take a bath together, I'm going first." She tells me and I blush. She smirks and leans down to give me a peck in the lips.

"You should go and have breakfast." She says as she walks slowly and for the first time I let my eyes wander freely through her body.

She opens the door and before she leaves she turns around and catches me staring at her. "Don't ogle me too much, Vega." She says as she winks at me and closes the door.

"I wasn- I totally was." I answer without meaning to I immediately blush and look down.

"That's how you know that the spell is working. Nobody in this house can lie, Victoria." She tells me.

"How did Piper know?" I ask and she smiles.

"I have used that spell before and so has Paige." She tells me and I nod. We don't say anything and I keep looking at her, and just when I was about to ask her who she was someone interrupted me.

"So are you coming down for breakfast? Piper doesn't like to waste food you know." I look to the door and I see Phoebe looking at me with an amuse expression. Did she hear what Piper said?

"Well come on." She tells me as she grabs my hand.

We made our way into the kitchen where Piper, Paige, and Cat are waiting.

"Can we Paige? I want to please?" I look up to see Cat give Paige her famous pout and I smile when I see Paige caving in.

"Okay, grab my hand." Cat squeals and grabs her hand. They disappear in light blue orbs.

"Where did they go?" I ask Piper and Phoebe as I look between them.

"They went to magic school." I look at her confused.

"Magic school?" I ask and Piper smiles as she gestures for me to sit down.

"Yeah, it's where they train witches." Piper tells me and I nod.

"So is that where you guys went?" They look at each other and then at me before laughing.

"No, Phoebe here found the book of Shadows and decided to read it. It turned our whole life upside down." I nod. Piper gives me my plate of food and I smile and thank her. I start to eat my food silently. They both took a seat in front of me. They don't say anything as I finish eating.

"So, why cast the spell?" Phoebe asks and Piper looks at me. I look at them confused?

"I- how did you know it was me?" I ask and they look at each other.

"We didn't but seeing as how you and your friend were the only ones in the attic one of you had to do it." Phoebe says and I blush at the under tone she used in the word friend.

"So why? Why that spell? There are a lot of them so why that one?" Piper asks and I look to my left and the ghost gives me a small smile.

"You can tell them." I nod.

"Someone told me that I should read that spell because it would help me to learn the truth." They look at me confusedly.

"And who might that someone be?" I look to my left and I know it will seem a little weird but I point to the ghost.

"Her." They look to where I'm pointing and then back at me.

"Who?" Piper asks and I find myself telling them the truth.

"The first time that I was in the attic I went to the big book on the podium I was just looking I swear. When suddenly the pages start turning by themselves and then stop at a spell. I think it's called "To Summon the Dead", or something like that and I read it out loud and she appeared." They both nod and I can see that they know what spell I'm talking about.

"So do you know who she is?" They ask me and I shrug. I look back at the ghost and I see the same sad smile.

"No, I haven't ask her. I just know that she used to live here and that she knows the three of you." Piper and Phoebe look at each other and before they could ask me something else the ghost interrupts them.

"Prue." She tells me.

"Is that your name? Prue?" I ask her out loud and I hear both Piper and Phoebe gasp.

"Yes. My full name is Prudence Halliwell but I prefer to be called Prue." The ghost answers me as she looks at Phoebe and Piper one more time.
