Temptation

"Say Odd, why do you always have to wait for the last second?" asked Aelita as they narrowly dodged a tree on the overboard.

"Because it's more fun, that's why," explained Odd. He dodged hornet fire and more trees. A hornet smashed into a tree being unable to dodge. Harry flew sideways through the tress.

"Is that what you call fun?" asked Aelita incredulously. "It's more like insanity if you ask me! I should have jumped on with Harry."

"Oh, really? You mean there's a difference," asked Odd. "Hahaha!"

Harry flew upwards and managed to hit the hornet with a shuriken. Another one showed up.

"Man, Xana really doesn't give up, does he?" asked Harry.

Yumi's fan hit several trees and hit it.

"Thanks, Yumi!" called Odd.

"Don't mention it!" Yumi called back.

"Don't forget you now have a second fan," called Harry as a hornet focused on Ulrich. Another one joined it. Harry sighed and flew over the path. He shot them and they blew up.

"Nice light show."

"Odd and Aelita! You're only a few minutes away from the activated tower," said Jeremy as he followed their progress.

"Bummer, I was just starting to enjoy myself," complained Odd as the Overboard was hit by a Hornet's laser. "Well at last some action! Sorry Aelita, we're going to have to jump!"

They jumped to safety and a new swarm of Hornets joined the fight. Harry took them out.

"No fair Harry," complained Odd. "I want some action."

"Can't have everything Odd."

Aelita ran to the tower as Odd backed up, keeping an eye out for any monsters. She reached it as a Scyphozoa blocked the passage. It grabbed her and started to drain her memory.

"Oh no you don't" Harry yelled as he aimed at it and fired. It screeched and backed off.

"Good job Harry."

"I hate those things," muttered Harry as Aelita entered the tower. She rose to the next platform.

"The tower's been deactivated."

"Ok," said Jeremy. "I'll start the return and bring you home."

"Really?" asked Yumi. "Why? Xana didn't have time to launch an attack."

"She has a point," said Harry. "We don't need to return to the past."

"You can't be too careful."

"May I remind you that going back in time makes Xana stronger?" asked Ulrich.

"I know what I'm doing, alright?!"

"Well if you know, then explain it to us," said Odd.

"Just trust me, ok?!"

"Jeremy! That's not the point…" said Aelita as she trailed off.

"That's my final answer! Return to the past now!"

The white light covered them.

Harry's and Jeremy's Dorm

Harry looked at Jeremy worriedly as he picked up a pencil from the floor. He felt a hook behind his navel and managed to yelp before disappearing. Jeremy looked at the space he'd been occupying. "Harry?"

Outside

"Jeremy's really becoming a pain. He just flies off the handle for no reason at all! He's…like a time bomb," said Ulrich as they stood next to the drinks machine.

"Who knows, maybe he's got family problems," suggested Yumi.

"Or else, he's only just realised he has a split personality, and that when the moon is full, he becomes the son of Dr Schrank! Capable of crafting animal body parts onto human beings! And he now knows that he must face up to a fate worse than death!" theorised Odd.

"You've been watching Horror at the Hospital again, huh?" asked Ulrich.

"How could anyone pass up such a fantastic programme?" asked Odd.

Ulrich, Aelita and Yumi raised their hands in unison.

"Where's Harry anyway?" asked Yumi. "Didn't he come out about now?"

Ulrich shrugged. "He might have decided to stay in his dorm for a little while longer. There's Jeremy."

Jeremy walked up. "Have any of you seen Harry?" he asked.

"Not since we returned to the past," said Yumi.

"That's weird. Harry just disappeared. I heard a yelp but when I turned around, no one was there."

"How are you anyway?" asked Odd. "I'm sure Harry will turn up."

"I'm fine."

"We were worried when you didn't turn up," said Yumi.

"Stop worrying. I'm a big boy now," said Jeremy as he inserted a coin into the machine.

"Hey, you might just have something there with your Dr Schrank theory," said Ulrich to Odd.

"Ah! You see? I told you so! Right, in the meantime, I've also got to face a fate worse than death!" exclaimed Odd.

"What's that?" asked Ulrich.

"Ms Meyer's class…"

Hogwarts

Harry collapsed to the floor. He looked up to see Dumbledore and a portly man.

"You kidnapped me!" he yelled. Dumbledore looked confused. Harry repeated what he said in English.

"Now Harry, calm down," said Dumbledore with twinkle in his eye. "We freed you. This is the minister for magic, Cornelius Fudge." He indicated the other man.

"Harry Potter. It's wonderful to have you back with us," said Fudge. "Dumbledore told me about your friends and where he found you. Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Living with muggles."

He shook his head. Harry glared at him.

"My name is Harry Stern. My friends are important to me. It's not as terrible as you think and I prefer to call them normal."

He pulled out his laptop and connected his phone to it.

"That won't work here," said Dumbledore smugly. Harry glared at him as he wrote an email and sent it to Jeremy.

"See, it does work," said Harry smugly as he shut it down.

"Now, off to classes," said Dumbledore, clapping his hands together. Harry looked at him strangely.

"You kidnapped me so I could go to school."

"Of course," said Dumbledore. "You need to be trained so that you can defend yourself against Death Eaters, the remnants of Voldemort's army."

"I was doing alright on my own. Voldemort? Vol de la mort? Flight of death? Is he fleeing from death or is death fleeing from him?"

Dumbledore looked stunned before pushing him out of the door. "Now, where is your wand?"

"At Kadic." Dumbledore stared at him in amazement.

"You don't keep it on you?"

Harry gave him a 'are you stupid?' look. "Of course I don't. I was in a school for normal kids."

Dumbledore knocked on the door. A man opened the door. "Hello headmaster."

"I've got a student here for you, Remus." The man looked at him and gasped.

"Harry Potter!"

The class started to whisper.

"My name is Harry Stern," growled Harry. He was pushed into the class.

"Sit down next to Ron and Hermione. I am Professor Lupin."

Harry grumbled under his breath as he sat down.

Kadic

Ms Meyer was explaining some maths as Odd drew a monster. Jeremy daydreamed that he was walking down a corridor with no end. He shook his head.

"Ma'am?"

"Yes Jeremy? You have a question?"

"May I go to the infirmary?" he asked after a pause.

"Oh, yes. Of course."

"Jeremy?" asked Aelita. "Want me to go with you?"

"No."

"First it's Harry disappearing into thin air then it's Jeremy acting weirdly," muttered Ulrich. "What is the world coming to?"

Later

"Jeremy skipped history class?" asked Yumi as they chose their lunch.

"And gym class too. And now he's skipping lunch…" said Ulrich. "Harry still hasn't turned up."

"Gym class and lunch I can understand! But skipping history class is not Jeremy's style at all," said Odd.

"Maybe he's in his room," said Aelita.

Harry's and Jeremy's Dorm

Jeremy was working on his computer as Aelita knocked on the door.

"Yes?"

"It's me," said Aelita as she held up a red folder. "I brought notes from the classes you missed."

"Put them on the bed." He didn't turn round.

"Jeremy, if there's anything wrong, you know you can talk to me about it," said Aelita s she walked over and placed her hand on his shoulder.

"What's up with you guys?" asked Jeremy as he finally looked at her. "There's nothing wrong. I'm working, that's all. I've nearly found the antivirus so we'll be able to free you from Xana. Isn't that worth spending time on? Harry did help me a great deal because he seems to understand the computer better than me…" he trailed off.

"Yes, but you've been acting strangely," said Aelita. "Harry would say that too if he saw you. You should take a break from time to time."

"Does Xana take breaks?" asked Jeremy. "No. So what do you want?! You want it to steal your memory?!"

"I really don't want to lose you, Jeremy…" said Aelita sadly. "Even Harry takes breaks from time to time. I can hardly recognise you anymore."

"There's something I have to tell you." The Superscan came up with an activated tower. "You see! I told you Xana never takes a break!"

Lunch hall

"You done yet?" asked Yumi as she sat with her arms crossed, watching Odd eat the last of the food. Her phone rang.

"Sos Xana."

"Ok Jeremy. We're on our way."

"Hurry up."

"Xana's launched an attack. We have to go to the factory." She stood up.

"You over there! Sit back down! I said, SIT DOWN!" said a Xanafied Rosa as the boys stood up. She threw a plate. It missed and she sent a swarm of plates at them.

"I should've have said her mashed potatoes look like barf, I guess," said Odd. "Is this what Harry goes through every time he fights a horde of monsters on his lonesome?"

"This looks more like a Xanafication," said Yumi. "Cover me. I'll try to reach Aelita and Jeremy at the factory."

The boys sent plates at Rosa as Yumi got out.

"Ready for another round?" asked Odd as they ducked back down. "It's not every day we get the opportunity to break up the place!"

Hogwarts

Harry sat away from anyone else at the Gryffindor table as he glared at Dumbledore. He wasn't eating much, not used to such heavy food. He had also gone over material that he'd done so he was suffering from boredom. And he'd had no chance to slip into a shadow and get home as the two lackeys had kept a close eye on him. A blond kid walked over to him.

"Are you Harry Potter?" he asked as two goons flanked him.

"No."

"People have been saying that Harry Potter is at Hogwarts. I was also in the defence class. Plus, I have heard from my father that you had been found. I am Malfoy. Draco Malfoy."

"I don't care. Go away." Harry continued to glare at Dumbledore. Malfoy tried to pull his wand out to find it in Harry's hand. "Looking for this?"

Malfoy snatched it from him. "I'll tell my father about this!"

"You do that. See if I care."

His phone rang and he picked it up, leaving Malfoy spluttering.

"What's up Jeremy?"

"Xana's attacking. You need to get to the factory."

"That might not be possible," said Harry. "I would have come earlier but I'm being watched."

People started staring at the doors as Krabes entered.

Scanners

Aelita waited for the rest of the group.

"The activated tower is in the mountain sector," said Jeremy. "We can't rely on Harry as he can't get way."

"I guess we have to wait then."

"Where are they?" asked Jeremy as Yumi entered the scanner room.

"They're doing what they can," said Yumi. "Xana has possessed Rosa. We'll have to do without them."

"Hurry up," said Jeremy as they stood in one of the scanners. "I'll start the virtualisation. Transfer Yumi. Transfer Aelita. Scanner Yumi. Scanner Aelita. Virtualisation."

Lyoko

"The tower should be straight ahead," said Jeremy.

"We can see it," said Yumi as the two looked at the Kankrelats. "But there's also an army of monsters blocking our way. What I would do for Harry to be here. I have a funny feeling we should take cover…"

They ran behind a boulder.

"Are you ok?" asked Jeremy.

"We'd be better if you could materialise the Overwing," said Yumi.

"It's coming up." Odd called them.

"Jeremy! How's it going on your end? … 'Cause over here, we're starting to run out of ammo!" said Odd as Ulrich threw a spoon at rebounded. "Jeremy, you'd better hustle! May I remind you that Rosa's specialty is chopped sirloin?"

"Come on, ladies, get a move on! Odd and Ulrich are in a really bad way!" said Jeremy.

"No kidding! All we need here are some sandwiches for a nice picnic!" retorted Yumi as the Overwing appeared.

"We'll never get through…" said Aelita as she peered at the monsters. "This is Harry's area of expertise. He can move like a shadow."

"Hold on a second, I've got a little idea," said Yumi as she climbed on the Overwing.

"Little or big, it doesn't matter as long as it works," said Aelita. Yumi used her telekinesis to throw the boulder at the monsters, destroying a few. Then Aelita jumped on and they flew past as the boulder rolled around.

Hogwarts

"How did they get here?" The Krabes started firing at people and they screamed. "Never mind. Oi! Xana! Over here!"

They turned to look at him. Harry grinned, ran over to the wall and climbed up like a cat.

"Now I'm glad that I brought my powers to earth," he muttered in French.

He aimed at the eye of Xana and fired three times. "Laser Arrows!"

They collapsed and a screech echoed as everyone looked at Harry who paled. "Non non non." He whispered.

"What is he saying?" Ron asked Hermione as they overheard him.

"He's saying no. In French."

The Scyphozoa entered the room and floated over to Harry. He shot to the over side of the room. Ron looked at it and a wet patch formed.

"What are they up to?" muttered Harry. "I have to get out of here."

The teachers started sending spells at the Scyphozoa. It fizzled and disappeared for a moment before reappearing. Harry groaned. It picked him up and pressed its tentacles to his head.

"No. I don't want to serve you. I'm still their friend, even if I'm far away," he muttered as Xana tried to weaken his will.

"What's up with him?" asked Ron as they looked at him.

Kadic

Rosa threw a table at the two boys.

"Here she comes! Now I know what Tweety feels like against Sylvester…!" said Ulrich as she approached with another table.

"Hey, Jeremy what's happening over there?" asked Odd as he called Jeremy again.

"Aelita's in the tower," said Jeremy. "Just hang in there for another thirty seconds!"

"Thirty seconds?!" asked Odd incredulously. "That's like an eternity!"

Rosa collapsed as the tower was deactivated.

"Jeremy, I think this calls for a return to the past."

"Right, I'm launching it. Get ready. Return to the past now!"

The white light expanded out.

Hogwarts

The Scyphozoa dropped Harry as it disappeared. Harry shook his head and groaned as he stood up again.

"What was those creatures? What was that jellyfish doing to you? Where did they come from? Why where they after you? Who's Xana? How did you move so fast? Where did those... what did you call them? Laser Arrows come from? They're like nothing I've ever seen," said Hermione rapidly. Ron kicked a Krabe.

"We'd quite like to know that too," said Dumbledore as the staff came over. Snape sneered.

"Just like his father, causing trouble everywhere he goes. Arrogant too as he seems to expect not to get into trouble."

"I don't know who you're taking about," said Harry. "But it's rude to make assumptions when you don't even know the person you're talking about. Who are you anyway?"

"I am Professor Snape. Now answer the question!"

"Let's just say that their master wants me. They came to... collect me for him," said Harry, looking at all the wands aimed at him. A bright light was seen through the window. "And you can kiss goodbye to your memories. Thank god for Jeremy."

The return to the past covered them.

Kadic

"Where is he?" asked Ulrich as they stood by the drinks machine again. "He should be here by now."

"Why don't we go check his room?" asked Aelita. "Harry could be there again."

Harry's and Jeremy's Dorm

Aelita knocked and entered to find Harry shaking Jeremy.

"Jeremy!"

Infirmary

"What happened Harry?" asked Yumi as Odd tried in vain to wake Jeremy.

"Jeremy, wake up! It's terrible! Aelita has fallen in love with Herb," said Odd as he shook him. "No reaction? This is really serious!"

"Thanks Odd. We worked that out," said Harry. "I get back and he collapses. What happened while I was away?"

"We could ask you the same thing," said Yumi.

"I picked up a pencil that was charmed to be a Portkey," said Harry. Noticing their blank looks, he explained. "It's a transportation device that my kind use. This one took me to Hogwarts but the return to the past brought me back. I nearly got possessed by a Scyphozoa."

"I'm calling the hospital," said Yolanda as she ignored what they were saying.

"Look," said Aelita as she pointed at him. "His eyelids are moving!"

"He must be dreaming."

In his dream, Jeremy was running from black shadows.

"What could have happened to him?" asked Ulrich as they left.

"Xana could," said Harry bleakly. "Has he been acting oddly recently? I've noticed that he's been behaving slightly erratically."

"Well, he did launch that first return to the past when we didn't need to," said Aelita. "And ever since then, he's been acting strange."

"Something must have happened during the last return to the past," said Odd.

"Xana?" asked Yumi. Harry shook his head.

"If Xana did something, it would have been more likely to be targeted at me or Aelita. I mean, we are the ones that he wants for whatever reason."

"I have no idea," said Aelita as she walked off. "But I think it's worth checking the supercomputer."

"I'll come with you," said Odd as he followed her.

Shall we search your room?" asked Yumi.

"That's a good idea," said Harry. "By the way, that Portkey I was talking about is under my bed. Don't touch it."

Harry's and Jeremy's Dorm

"Nothing special, except that I just found out that Jeremy still wears underwear with kangaroos on them! I'll have to tell him to move on to boxers," said Ulrich as he closed the wardrobe.

"There's no activated tower but there's a ton of files on Jeremy's computer," said Yumi as she looked over Harry's shoulder. He started to hack into a file called my journal.

"If there is one thing Jeremy needs to do, it's improve his encryption."

Lab

"There was a large discharge of energy in the last return to the past according to the logs," said Aelita as she read them. "Apart from that, they're normal."

Ulrich called them.

"Ulrich?" asked Aelita as she put the ear piece on.

"Can you meet us in Jeremy's room?" asked Ulrich. "Harry might need your help in hacking something."

"OK."

Harry's and Jeremy's Dorm

"Video files…" muttered Harry as the two entered the room.

"Just open the fort one," said Yumi. Harry clicked on it.

"I have decided to start an audio journal like the one Franz Hopper kept," said Jeremy on the video. "So others could continue my research. I have never been closer to finding the antivirus that will free Aelita. It's thanks to Franz Hopper's diary and the data recovered from sector five. I was able to decode part of the diary…"

"And he didn't tell me," huffed Harry. Aelita shushed him.

"… and found plans for a device that will increase your intelligence. I tried it and it's amazing. It's like my brain had the processing capabilities of ten computers."

"A neural headset," said Aelita. Harry check the antivirus.

"And I have no idea what's he's trying to do," said Harry as he went over the antivirus. "Some of this code isn't needed and other code would hurt Aelita."

"Open the most recent entry," said Yumi. Harry clicked on the one from yesterday.

"My mental health gets worse and worse. But I'm moving so far forward in my research. I can't stop this close to success. And I'll soon be as clever as Harry."

"He's jealous of me?" asked Harry incredulously.

"That's all we needed," said Ulrich as the clip ended.

"IS there anything we can do?" asked Aelita.

"Let's go to the factory," said Odd.

"I'll meet you there. I want to make sure Xana's attack isn't aimed at Jeremy," said Yumi.

Outside

Jeremy was loaded onto the ambulance.

"Come with me. There are papers we have to sign," said Demas as smoke slipped into the ambulance. It started up.

"Huh? Hey, my ambulance!" cried the driver.

"Is Jeremy in there?" asked Yumi as she walked over.

"Yes, but he isn't driving it…!" said Yolanda as the ambulance drove away. Yumi ran after it before jumping on a bike.

Lab

Harry entered the lab as the other three went down to the scanners. Yumi called him.

"Aelita?"

"It's Harry. What's wrong Yumi?"

"Xana has taken control of the ambulance."

"Ok then. We'll go as fast as we can. I promise. Are you three ready?"

"Ready," said Odd.

"Alright than. Transfer Odd. Transfer Ulrich. Transfer Aelita. Scanner Odd. Scanner Aelita. Scanner Ulrich. Virtualisation!"

Lyoko

"Thanks for getting us here," said Ulrich as they appeared in the ice sector. "Are you coming?"

"Only if I need to," said Harry as he looked at the monitor.

"The tower's that way," said Aelita as she pointed at it.

"Harry, can you send us our vehicles please?" asked Odd.

"Coming right up." The Overboard and Overbike appeared and they jumped on then flew in the right direction.

Yumi

Yumi rode alongside the ambulance. It pulled away and she pedaled harder to catch up.

"Jeremy, wake up! Jeremy! Jeremy! It's me, Yumi! Wake up! Wake up!" yelled Yumi as she hit her fist on the window, opened the door and climbed in. Jeremy woke up from his dream.

"Uh…Yumi! What's going on?" asked a drowsy Jeremy.

"Just…huge problems, same old routine! Before we can do anything else, we have to get out of here." She opened the door again. Jeremy shut it.

"Don't uou think we ought to stop the ambulance first?"

"Of course I do but do you mind telling me how?" asked Yumi. The ambulance slammed around a corner and Yumi looked out the windscreen. "Make it fast because we're heading for the river."

Lyoko

"There!" said Aelita as Tarantulas virtualised in front of them.

"Ten tarantulas are with you."

"Maybe you shouldn't have said it so loud," said Odd. "What do you mean ten? I see only two."

"Well, the display says there are ten."

Aelita shot an energy field at one and it blew up.

"I've got an idea!" said Ulrich as he pulled out his sword and jumped off the Overbike.

"I love it when you say that!" said Odd. Ulrich stabbed the ground and cracks formed.

"Are you sure that's going to work?" asked Harry as he watched.

Several tarantulas fell in.

"Two left."

Ambulance

Jeremy threw a canister through the glass and Yumi climbed into the driver's seat. She tried to slow down but nothing happened. The ambulance drove into the river.

Lyoko

"You got any other brilliant ideas, Ulrich?" asked Odd.

"Uh…well…" said Ulrich as he's shot and devirtualised. "Ah!"

"Not col."

Odd jumped over to a platform with a tarantula on it and fired. He nearly fell in as the tarantula exploded but jumped to another platform.

"Harry!"

"What is it?" asked Harry.

"We're in the river," said Yumi. Hurry up!"

"Now, the problem is how to reach the tower," said Odd.

"Yeah, and fast! Yumi and Jeremy have one for a dip in an ambulance at the bottom of the river," said Ulrich over Harry's shoulder.

"Aelita, can you use your creativity to make a bridge?" asked Harry. Aelita threw another energy field and destroyed the last tarantula before making a bridge. She ran across it and entered the tower. She went to the screen and pressed her palm to it.

"Yumi, we got it! Aelita has deactivated the tower," said Ulrich.

"Super…now we can drown in peace…"

"I can sort that out, said Harry as he started up a program "Return to the past now!"

Earlier

"Don't tell me he's out cold again," said Ulrich with his drink. They went to Harry's and Jeremy's room and found Jeremy smashing the device.

"I checked out the calculations I've done over the last few weeks and most of them are wrong," said Jeremy.

"So, you were destroying your health without even improving your brain power. I wouldn't call that a very good deal," said Odd.

"Do you think that Xana had anything to do with it?" asked Yumi.

"He put me on the track but the information did come from Franz Hopper's diary.

"In some way then, we have not just one, but two enemies," said Ulrich.

"Hopper is certainly not an enemy! But his discoveries are out of our league…I think we'd better be careful," said Jeremy. Harry snorted.

"I can understand them just fine. I'm just not stupid trying to try them out." Jeremy blushed.

"For now, the important thing is that you get back to being your old self again," said Aelita,

"That's for sure! Seeing you so grouchy, you were getting to be like Dr Schrank, or even worse! Huh, Ulrich?" said Odd, nudging him.

"Hey, I am not…grouchy…"

Jeremy, Aelita, Yumi, Harry and Odd laughed.

"You can be," said Harry, calming down.
