Attack of the zombies

A tower activated in the desert sector.

Odd's and Ulrich's dorm

Kiwi lay on a bed as the desk lamp shook. He looked at it. The bulb fell out as black smoke appeared and headed for Kiwi. He growled at it.

Outside

"So how'd the Italian test go?" asked Yumi as she joined the group.

"I couldn't string two words together," said Jeremy.

"Sei veramente nullo in italiano mio caro Jeremy," said Odd in Italian.

"…huh?"

"It means you're really lame at Italian, Jeremy old buddy," translated Odd as he looked at him. Harry sniggered.

"That was easy Jeremy."

"You see?" asked Jeremy. "I didn't even get that! And I wasn't the one memorising a dictionary either."

"There's nothing wrong with that," said Harry calmly.

"Sissi, what do you think of your father's decision to set up an exchange program with England? Our readers want to know," said Milly as she and Tamiya perused Sissi.

"My dear Milly, your paper doesn't have any readers," said Sissi meanly as the group watched. "And anyway, I don't need the whole school knowing what I think, understand?!"

"No danger of that, Sissi, you'd need a brain to think," called Odd.

"Odd, be nice," said Harry as he nudged Him. "Sissi, there's no need to be rude. You could have just said 'No comment.'"

Sissi winked at him.

"Oh, how I hate her," said Milly.

"You don't need to like her, you just need to know how to handle her," said Harry as they watched her walk off.

Later

"You're wrong, I tell you," said Odd as they queued up in the line.

"But I didn't say that Kiwi was stupid," pointed out Jeremy.

"Oh no, you said he was brainless," agreed Odd.

"Yeah, well if you throw a stick, he won't run and fetch it," said Jeremy.

"Wrong, he's done that before," said Harry.

"Well neither would you! Does that make you brainless?" asked Odd.

Dorms

"Hey, what's he doing there?" asked Milly as they turned the corner and spotted Kiwi. "If Jim sees him, Odd is going to be in big trouble."

"I'll take him back to his room," said Tamiya.

"I'll meet you in the showers."

Tamiya walked up to him. Kiwi had the eye of Xana in replacement of his normal eyes.

"Come on."

She reached out to touch him but he bit her. Her vision went wobbly and her eyes lost their pupils. She entered the showers and attacked Milly who screamed and backed away. Milly pushed her away and ran.

Lunch hall

"So you're not going to be finishing your chocolate pudding?" asked Odd as he finished the one he was on.

"Isn't that your fourth one?" asked Aelita as she stared at him.

"Odd is like a cow, he has more than one stomach," explained Ulrich as he looked at her.

"Xana alert."

"The better to pig out with, my dear," agreed Odd. They looked at Milly who came in.

"Tamiya came after me! She looked so strange and her eyes were totally white! It was horrible! She looked like Dr Schrank!" she cried.

"Who's Dr Schrank?" asked Jeremy.

"The psycho TV brain surgeon in Hospital of Horrors," explained Odd. "Is this Xana?"

"Yep," said Harry. "I think he's figured out a way to block my detection of him. It's been coming later and later after the start of an attack."

He opened his laptop, found the right program and started to edit it. Jeremy launched a Superscan.

"Calm down," said Rosa as she tried to comfort her. "It'll be alright. You must have had a bad dream."

"It wasn't a dream! It was real!"

"Activated tower," whispered Jeremy.

"Let's head to the factory," said Odd.

"I'll let Yumi know," said Ulrich as he pulled out his phone and called her.

"Ulrich? Huh? I understand. Yeah. Ok. No problem." She ended the call.

"Was that Ulrich, your boyfriend?" asked Hiroki.

"Yes, Ulrich is my boyfriend," said Yumi as she stood up. "And yes, that was him."

"Yumi's in looooove! Yumi's in looooove! Yumi's in looooove!" chanted Hiroki

"Hiroki, leave your sister alone," said their dad.

"You're such a pain! I'm going to bed."

Kadic

"I think it's serious," said Rosa as she looked at the rest of the students. "Sissi, go get your father."

"We'll go with you," said Ulrich. Sissi smiled. They walked out and saw Jim just standing there.

"Hey Jim! There's a problem with Milly!" called Sissi. He didn't respond. "Jim?"

He turned to look at them.

"Man, he looks like when Xana took Odd, Yumi and Ulrich to that fake earth," said Harry. Sissi ran off and Ulrich followed her.

"Meet up at the factory!" he called.

More zombies appeared.

"About face," said Odd as they backed into the lunch hall.

"Hey, what's goin' on?" asked Rosa.

"Oh, nothing! We're surrounded by zombies, ma'am!" said Odd.

"Zom…whoa…ohhh…" Rosa fainted and a boy caught her with a chair.

Sissi

Sissi slowed sown and stopped. More zombies appeared form the trees. She screamed her head off.

"HELP! PLEASE!"

Ulrich jumped in front of her.

"Cool it maggot faces."

They continued to approach. Ulrich kicked them and they fell down with a thud.

"Come on."

They hid in a bush as more zombies appeared.

"What do we do now? Sissi, listen we have to get to a safe spot. Let's get back to the lunch room fast."

They crept away.

Lunch hall

The zombies pressed against the outside of the building.

"There! You see! I wasn't dreaming!" cried Milly. The zombies moved away.

"I bet they'll be back," said Herb as Rosa woke up. "With reinforcements."

"The problem with the living dead is that you can't kill them. Because they're already dead, hehehe!" said Nicholas. Rosa fainted again.

"No, I'm not joking," said William into is phone. "Hello?"

The call had been cut off. He tried again.

"Zombies, like in the movies!"

"I hope Ulrich and Yumi are all right," said Aelita.

"Don't worry. They're probably at the factory by now. We've got to join them ASAP," said Odd as he put his hand on the door handle.

"Hey, where do you think you're going?" asked William as he noticed them.

"Outside," said Harry.

"No way, it's too dangerous," said William.

"That's our problem William," said Odd as he tried to open the door again. William stopped him.

"I'm the oldest one here so I'm the one responsible for the group. I'm telling you you're staying here, waiting for help. I don't want the zombies to get you. And if they attack the cafeteria again, we'll need as many people as possible. Anyone who tries to get out has to get past me first."

Harry snorted.

"Is there something funny?" asked William.

"I don't think they're going to get me William. And I don't need to get past you. All I need is a shadow."

William looked confused.

"Oh great, William thinks he's Bruce Willis, that's all we needed," said Odd.

"We just need to go to the factory," said Jeremy. "There's a supercomputer there that allows us to go to a virtual universe called Lyoko so we can stop Xana, the being behind this. We get superpowers there which Harry has brought to earth which is why Harry doesn't need a door. He can travel through shadows."

"A Supercomputer that lets you go into a virtual universe where you have to battle an evil enemy called Xana? And you have superpowers there? And Harry has somehow brought his to Earth? And they include shadow travel?" asked William sceptically.

"Nice name. I might just call my ability that."

"Uh, yes…when you…put it that way, I admit it sounds a little weird…" said Jeremy.

"If you want to stop this zombie attack, Odd, Jeremy, Harry and I have to get to the factory right now," said Aelita desperately.

"Look, I'm sorry, but I don't believe you, so we're all staying together," said William.

"Ok. Plan B," said Odd. "I distract him and Harry takes you to the factory.

Jeremy sighed and turned to Harry,

"Do you think you can take three?"

Harry nodded. "I can do several trips if needed."

"Hey, Jackie Chan, so you think you're the boss around here or somethin'?" asked Odd as he approached.

"Yes! And I want us all to get out of this unharmed!"

"You've gotta stop watching those superhero films! They're getting to your head," said Odd. Herb looked at Harry, Aelita and Jeremy.

"They're escaping!"

William pushed them out of the shadow.

"Sorry but it's for your own good. You'll thank me when you get out of this safe and sound!"

"Safe and sound?" asked Jeremy as they got back up. "Yeah, thanks a lot! Harry, can you go any faster?"

Harry grinned, grabbed their hands again and ran into the shadows as fast as he could. William grabbed Aelita and got pulled along with them.

Lab

The four arrived at the same time Yumi did.

"Why is William here?" she asked. Harry stared at him.

"That was reckless William! I'm taking you back." He grabbed him and disappeared.

School fence

The police walked up to the fence and the groundskeeper came out of the building.

"We revived a call saying there was an attack by uh… uh. Anyway, have you seen anything out of the ordinary? Like zombies?"

"No. I haven't seen anything. But that doesn't mean that they're not here."

"I told you it was just another prank. Let's go."

They walked away. Jim walked over.

"Hey Jim! Have you heard about the zombies?"

They walked towards him as Ulrich and Sissi watched.

"Well, so much for the way out of here." His phone rang.

"Yumi?"

"What in the world have you been up to?" asked Yumi. "We've been waiting for you at the factory!"

"Haven't you heard?" asked Ulrich. "It's a living dead convention over here!"

"Be careful."

Lunch hall

Odd peered out the window.

"They're coming at us from all sides. Look, Kiwi!"

He approached him.

"That's the same dog we saw just before Tamiya got zombified! Wait!"

The dog attacked him.

"Ow! Kiwi what's wrong with you?" He saw the eye of Xana in the dog's eyes. "Xana…"

Odd clutched his head as people found rope to tie him up with.

Outside

Ulrich and Sissi looked at the lunch hall.

"Do you have a plan?" asked Sissi.

"Yes but you're not going to like it."

Lunch hall

"So you're saying that Kiwi is possessed by this Xana?" William asked Harry who was tied up along with Odd. "And don't bother trying to get out. You can only move your hands."

"Yes." Harry slipped a shuriken out and threw it. It curved through the air and cut the ropes. He stood up and rubbed his arms. "But thanks to you, Kiwi is somewhere trying to bite us. If you let us out before, we wouldn't be in this mess. And just because I can only move my hands doesn't mean I can't escape."

William grabbed him.

"If I had let you out before, you might be a zombie by now!"

"I really don't see that happening," said Harry, shoving back. "I think Xana controls them on a certain level so they won't attack me. I'm too important for Xana. He wants a much stronger control over me than what the zombies have if they are controlled by Xana."

"What are you talking about?" asked William as he grabbed Harry again. "I'm tired of hearing about the factory and this supercomputer."

"Xana wants to Xanafy me. And you saw the supercomputer or, at least, the controls for it. I'm going now."

He disappeared into William's shadow, dragging him with him.

Outside

"Are you ready?" asked Ulrich. Sissi nodded and Ulrich ran off.

"Kill the zombieeeees! Come on, you deadheads! Nyeh nyeh nyeh!" he called and led them away. Sissi ran to the door.

"Open up! It's me, Sissi! Hey, open up, I said! I'm not one of them!" she called as she thumped he fist against the door.

"She's lying. Prove it!" called Herb.

"Um…I uh…I have a subscription to Pretty Girl and I still sleep with Ninin my stuffed moose," called Sissi.

"That has nothing to do with it," said Herb. "That just proves you're a lame-o!"

"You open this door you bunch of pea-brained dorks!" ordered Sissi as zombies approached.

"Ok, that's Sissi, alright!" said Nicholas. Herb let her in but zombie Jim came in as well. Nicholas tried to throw a chair at Jim but he shattered it. Herb tried to push Jim out but got thrown out and attacked. The rest of the students managed to close the door after Ulrich cleared the zombie trying to get in.

Lab

"Sorry for the delay. I couldn't get rid of him," said Harry as he walked over to Jeremy and gestured to William.

"Aright. Get to the scanners." The three walked to the elevator and went down.

"What is this place?" asked William as he walked over to Jeremy. "What do you mean, scanners?"

"I do believe we told you," said Jeremy as he started the process. "Can you be quiet? Transfer Harry. Transfer Yumi. Transfer Aelita. Scanner Harry. Scanner Yumi. Scanner Aelita. Virtualisation!"

William watched the computer select the right ID cards and scan the kids into the computer.

"Here's the Overwing and Overjet!" The vehicle's ID cards appeared.

"You're getting better, Jeremy! Soon we'll be landing right on top of them," said Yumi as Harry stroked the Overjet.

"You're not damaged are you?" Aelita rolled her eyes.

"I really doubt it's damaged Harry. I mean, it does have full life points."

"Harry has a jet?" asked William.

"Alright, get on your way," said Jeremy as they climbed onto their vehicles. "Keep an eye out for nasty surprises."

"We always do that," said Harry. "That doesn't mean we see them. And William, it's a fighter jet. Got a problem with that?"

"He's really positive about that jet," said Jeremy. "Don't take it personally Willaim. He will allow other people to use it occasionally though. But it is designed for him so they have to be in a safe mode to use it."

Lunch hall

Ulrich looked out the window.

"What are they doing?" asked Milly.

"If you ask me, they're planning something," said Ulrich. "A final assault."

"It's ok," said Sissi as Milly started to cry.

Lyoko

"Activated tower in sight," said Yumi as they flew towards it.

"Oh, Krabes also in sight," said Aelita. Harry shot them.

"Too ease. Where are the swarms? Has Xana changed his MO when it comes to me?"

"Xana played his cards right," said Jeremy. "He wanted to bring you to Lyoko with the fewest bodyguards possible, preferably just Harry so he can get to him too. That's why Kiwi bit Odd but not you or me."

William looked at him.

"If you want more bodyguards, I can go."

"Sorry William," said Harry. "But it has to be a group decision."

The computer beeped and Jeremy opened the cameras. It revealed zombies.

"But now Xana doesn't need me anymore…" said Jeremy.

"What do you mean?" asked Yumi.

"You've gotta deactivate the tower fast! If I get zombified, I won't be able to launch the return in time, and then…tch…I don't want to talk about the mess we'll be in," said Jeremy.

"I can always do the return to the past," said Harry. "I had a good look at my avatar earlier when I was improving my Xana detection program. Franz added a total control program so I can control the whole of Lyoko if I needed to and all the other programs on the computer. I think I can do it from inside the tower.

More Krabes turned up.

"I think Xana's trying to delay us," said Harry.

"I can take care of any zombies," said William confidently.

"No, you can't" said Harry. "We can't risk you being zombified as well. Just keep an eye on Jeremy and don't go looking for them."

They dodged several lasers and Yumi got hit.

Lunch hall

"Ok guys, this is it," said Ulrich as they armed themselves with furniture. Rosa woke up as the zombies tried to push the door.

"Oh, I think I'm…" She fainted again. The zombies entered the room and approached them. They started to fight them off. They ganged up on one and Herb dropped his pans. Most of the students were attacked and turned.

"Don't you touch Milly, you hear?!" asked Sissi as they were backed into a corner. Odd attacked Ulrich and they fell to the floor.

Lyoko

A Krabe chased after Yumi and Aelita.

"Is it me or does Xana never send any of his monsters after me except for the Scyphozoa?" asked Harry as he shot it down.

"Probably," said Jeremy. "Xana wants you on Lyoko so he can fully Xanafy you. I think the Scyphozoa's power is educed while on Earth so he probably uses it to try to place a command for you to give yourself up to it and don't resist the next time you go to Lyoko."

"Seriously?" asked William. "Xana sends monsters to Earth?"

"Occasionally," said Harry as he did a loop de loop. "You fought with Ulrich to defend the school."

"Seriously?" asked William again. "I don't remember that."

"You wouldn't."

Two screeches echoed across the landscape.

"Uh oh. Scyphozoas coming in."

A Kankrelat shot down the Overwing and it exploded.

"Miserable Kankrelat! We'll have to go on foot," said Yumi as Harry flew down to check them.

"Or Harry can give us a lift," said Aelita as she climbed into the second seat.

"You'll have to cling on for dear life Yumi," said Harry. "I could only fit two seats on."

Yumi jumped into the middle of the Overjet and hung on as Harry flew up and towards the tower.

"Uh oh."

The platform had disappeared.

"Jeremy, the tower's disappeared!"

"What are you talking about Yumi?" asked Harry as he looked at the platform. "It hasn't changed."

"It's still there," said Jeremy as he looked at the display. "I can see it on my screen."

Aelita used her second sight. It showed the tower as Harry landed. The Kankrelat shot Yumi and she devirtualised.

"Ok, now it's just us," said Harry as he shot the monster and dismissed the Overjet.

The zombies approached Jeremy and William. William started to fight them off.

"Uh, if you could hurry up!"

The two started to run across the invisible landscape. A Krabe appeared and Harry pulled out a fan. He threw it and the Krabe devirtualised.

"Harry, you deactivate the tower," said Aelita. "You can try that program you found."

Harry entered the tower and rose to the second platform.

"Yes! Nice job!" cheered Jeremy as he saw the zombies. Kiwi bit him. "Oh no."

Jeremy and William turned into zombies and started to attack the computer.

Harry walked over to the screen and pressed his hand to it.

Lyoko

The files flew down the tower.

"Now how do I do this?" muttered Harry as he remembered Franz mentioning something about tower control. "That's right."

He pressed his hand to the screen again and called up the return to the past program. He started it off and the light zoomed up the tower and into the world, restoring everyone to normal.

"Return to the past."

Earlier

"You see," said Jeremy. "They came back normal."

"And now Harry can set up return to the pasts from the tower," said Aelita as she nudged him.

"It's true that she's a pain, but you know, deep down, I think she really likes you," said Ulrich.

"And I really think that she can be very brave and a real nice person, when she wants to be," said Aelita.

"What?!" asked Milly in confusion. Harry glanced at William who was walking by.

"Yeah! In fact, you never can guess a person's true colours, can you?" asked Jeremy.

"And I might be able to get her off your backs if you asked me too," said Harry as he patted her on the back.
