A Fine Mess

"Ok! Heads, it's Odd first…and tails, it's Yumi," said Ulrich as he flipped a coin as he waited for the two to materialise in the scanners. "Heads, heh, Odd! …Huh, Yumi, I lose."

Yumi examined herself, confused.

"Hey Yumi, are you ok?" asked Ulrich as Aelita appeared in the last scanner.

"What am I doing over here, huh?" asked Yumi in Odd's body.

"Uh…I uh…I think we've got a little problem here," said Odd in Yumi's body as Harry appeared.

"What's wrong?" asked Harry.

"We have a problem," said Odd in Yumi's body. Harry stared at him.

"And Yumi's in your body, right Odd?"

Lab

"Well?" asked Harry as Jeremy ran a check on what happened.

"I guess there's a little bug in the rematerialisation program," said Jeremy sheepishly.

"You call this a little bug?!" asked Yumi in Odd's body. "We can't stay this way."

"What about if we go back to Lyoko and devirtualise each other?" asked Odd. "Maybe everything will go back to normal."

"And what if the program bugs up again and you end up with no bodies?" asked Jeremy.

"Err, ok. Bad idea."

"So what do we do then?" asked Ulrich.

"Gotta fix the program," said Jeremy.

"How long will it take you? A couple of hours at the most?" asked Odd.

"Um…if I work through the night, it might be ready tomorrow morning," said Jeremy. "If harry works through the night, it will be ready by tomorrow."

"What?! You mean I'm going to have to sleep in a guy's body?!" asked Yumi incredulously.

"Well I'm not going to get any sleep at all, I'll have you know," said Jeremy. "Neither is Harry."

"And if you haven't noticed, I have a dynamite body! Better than yours, for example…" said Odd as he scratched his back. "Something's itching me in my back…it's uh…I think it's the strap to your…"

"Don't you dare take it off, do you hear?!" asked Yumi loudly.

"Don't you guys worry about it," said Aelita. "I'll be helping Harry and Jeremy out. Everything will be fine by tomorrow morning."

"I hope so."

"Not as much as I do."

Later

"Ok, so, what's my schedule for this evening?" asked Yumi as they climbed out the manhole.

"Well try the three Bs: Bacon, Bath, Bedtime," suggested Odd. "What about me?"

"Same here but Japanese style," said Yumi. "Try not to say anything stupid in front of my parents. Can you eat with chopsticks?"

"Yeah, as long as they look like forks," said Odd. "They do look like forks, right?"

"Don't do anything stupid with my body either," continued Yumi.

"Mine's still under warranty!"

"I think you'd better brush your teeth and go to bed early tonight," said Yumi as Ulrich climbed out.

"Isn't tonight the night you're supposed to break up with Magali?" asked Ulrich.

"Yeah, that's right…and with Claire too!"

"You're going steady with two girls at the same time?" asked Ulrich. "I didn't know that!"

"Neither do Magali and Claire! Up to now, that is…" Odd trailed off.

Kadic

"I've got a great idea," said Odd as Ulrich continued to flip his coin. "Why don't we go out on a date?"

"No Odd," said Ulrich as he shook his head. "It's a stupid idea. I act totally different around you."

"Well, well. Look who we have here," said Sissi as she walked over. "Romeo and Juliet. See you at the funeral."

"What a lame brain," said Odd as Sissi walked off. "I don't know what your brother sees in her."

"I don't think he even knows he has feelings for her," said Ulrich. Odd laid his head on Ulrich's shoulder and Tamiya took a photo.

"Scoop of the year! Ulrich and Yumi!"

"You do know that we've been going out for ages, right?" asked Ulrich.

"No one has ever been able to prove it."

Odd's and Ulrich's dorm

Yumi was going through Odd's draws. She picked up a tube and looked at it. Kiwi growled at her.

"That's not it." She threw it over her shoulder. "Cut it out Kiwi. There's no reason to growl at me. It's Yumi."

She found the right item and walked out the door, shutting it in Kiwi's face. He whimpered.

"Be a good dog."

"Odd!" said Magali.

"What?" asked Yumi. She slapped her.

"I know all about Claire! You are so…despicable!"

"Odd?" asked Claire as she walked over. "I know all about Magali, you sneaky rat!"

She slapped Yumi too.

"Odd!"

Yumi shielded herself from a future slap.

"Can you give this to Harry when you next see him?" she asked as she handed a letter over to Yumi. "Tell him it's from his setter admirer."

She winked and walked off.

"Yumi, what are you doing?" asked Ulrich as he walked down the corridor. "Find it?"

"Here it is," said Yumi as she walked over to him and handed the item over.

"Let's go to the cafeteria."

Outside

"Ulrich! Do you mind answering a few questions for our Academy gossip column?" asked Milly as Tamiya took a few photos.

"Yes, I do mind!" exclaimed Ulrich. "I don't want to talk!"

"What has gotten into them now?" asked Yumi as they walked away.

"Ask that imbecile Odd!"

"Well, did you find it?" asked Odd as they jogged over. "I've had it ever since I was really little."

Yumi's house

"Yumi, what's the matter?" asked Yumi's dad as they ate. Odd dropped the fish into the bowl as he remembered Yumi giving him the item in case of emergency. Odd pulled it out and opened it to reveal a fork. The rest of the family stared at him as he started to eat.

"Um…actually I'm…I'm not very hungry so uh, I'd better go to bed! Mingtian jian chang!" said Odd in a high pitched voice to Yumi's parents.

"It's wuuuv!" said Hiroki as he chewed and swallowed. "Ulrich, I love you!"

"Hiroki!"

Odd turned he tap as his hand began to flicker. He stared at it.

Odd's and Ulrich's dorm

"You'll see," said Yumi as she stroked Kiwi. "You'll get used to me in no time."

Her hand flickered.

"Yumi? You Ok?" asked Ulrich as he came in with a towel over his shoulder.

"I thought my hand was disappearing for a minute. I must have imagined it."

"Oh. Don't worry," said Ulrich as he shut the door and walked over to his bed. "You can tell Jeremy and Harry about it tomorrow."

"Yeah, I can guess it can wait," said Yumi as she tried to take off Odd's shoes.

"Watch yourself!" warned Ulrich.

"Watch what?" asked Yumi as she pulled the shoe off and smelt the stench. "Oh! Ohhhh! Ohh, gross!"

She fainted.

"I warned you! Heheh, it's more powerful than a laser arrow!"

Lab, the next morning

"Well, there's the bug in the program," said Harry as he found it. "Man. It took me a long time to find it. Jeremy? Aelita?"

He looked at them curled together. He smirked and took out a camera. He took the picture and looked at it.

"So cute."

Odd's and Ulrich's dorm

Kiwi yawned and walked over to Yumi. He sniffed her face and licked it.

"Oh, please Kiwi!"

She pushed him away and her hand flickered again.

"Ulrich…"

He woke up and looked at her hand as it turned back to normal.

"I hope Harry and Jeremy found the bug."

Yumi's house

Yumi's mum was in the kitchen.

"Yumi, are you up?" she called. "Could you give me a hand with breakfast?"

"Uh, yes!" he called back. His voice turned back to normal as he watched his hands flicker. "If…if…if I have a hand to give you…"

Kadic

"It only lasted a few seconds but my hands disappeared," said Yumi to Jeremy, Aelita and Harry.

"It's probably a side effect of the body switch," said Harry. "We'd better get you back to normal soon. I managed to find the bug."

"I'd be a lot happier when you're back in your own bodies," said Jeremy. "Harry fixed the program. We need to restore you on Lyoko. We'll go to the factory at lunch."

"See, everything's fine," said Ulrich to Yumi.

"A lot of help you were," said Harry to Jeremy and Aelita. "You cuddled up together. Look." He pulled out the photo and the group looked at it.

"How cute," said Yumi.

"Yeah, I took it this morning," said Harry. "I think you should go out together."

The two blushed.

"Uh, no. everything's not fine," said Yumi as they saw Odd. "Everything's very bad."

"Hello."

Odd was dressed in bright clothes.

"What is eighth that costume?" asked an annoyed Yumi.

"Well, they're your clothes," said Odd. "Like it?"

"You are so lucky that you are in my body right now or I would beat you to a pulp!" yelled Yumi. "Go home and change before anyone sees you!"

Tamiya took a photo then spotted the one in Harry's hand. He stuffed it away.

"Yumi Ishiayama, haha! Transformed by love! Cool headline, huh?" asked Milly as she clapped her hands above her head.

"It will double our circulation!"

"What are they talking about with this love thing?" asked Yumi. "Everyone knows that I'm going out with Ulrich. That's old news."

"Uh, I'd better go. Don't want to be late for maths class."

He walked off.

Class

Odd sat down next to William as the teacher told the class to take out their pens and handed out the paper.

"Oh, man! Tough break…Yumi's going to kill me!" muttered Odd as he looked at the paper.

"Do you always have conversations with yourself?" asked William.

"Well yes…they call it a split personality, but nothing to worry about!"

"Right. Is that why you're dressed like that?"

"Kind of."

Odd's hand disappeared again as he felt a strange presence in his head.

"Don't react."

"Harry?" thought Odd.

"Yes, it's me dimwit. I wanted to check up on you. Do you want help?"

"Of course."

Harry told Odd the answers and he stood up once he wrote down the answers.

"Ma'am, can I go to the infirmary? I have a sore throat."

"Of course Yumi."

He handed in his paper and walked out the class.

Outside

"Thanks for helping me with the maths test Harry," said Odd as they met up.

"Huh? There was a math quiz this morning? Did you manage?" asked Yumi.

"Well if you mean sharpening my pencils and all that, yeah!"

"What do you think the problem is?" asked Aelita.

"Odd and Yumi go materialised in the wrong bodies," said Jeremy. "They're not in their own so the bodies aren't stable."

"And they could disappear forever," said Harry. Everyone looked at him. "I fixed it though."

"Harry's right," said Jeremy. "If we don't sort it out, your atoms could split. That means compete disintegration."

Lab

"Head to the scanner room," said Jeremy as he stepped out. "I'll send you to the ice sector."

He walked over and put the earpiece on.

"You'll need to get to a way tower due north from where you arrive. I'll reboot the program from that tower and the nightmare should be over. Aelita, Harry and Ulrich, go in first. Transfer Harry. Transfer Aelita. Transfer Ulrich. Scanner Harry. Scanner Aelita. Scanner Ulrich. Virtualisation."

They landed safely.

"Transfer Odd! No, I mean that is uh…Yumi. Ah, no, wait! Uuuuum…oh, whatever. Transfer, scanner, virtualisation!"

Lyoko

"And now let's hear it for Catwoman…!" said Yumi as she looked at Odd's body on Lyoko. Harry slammed his head into the ice.

"I should have warned you about that."

Odd tried to walk but he stumbled. They laughed.

"I think this is going to take a while," said Harry as he calmed down. "I hope Xana doesn't activate a tower."

They ran to the way tower with Odd lagging behind.

"Be right back," said Aelita s she ran in. Odd and Yumi flickered.

"I hope Aelita makes it fast. This is turning into an emergency."

Several Kankrelats turned up and they dodged the laser fire.

"Thanks for the heads up Jeremy," said Odd sarcastically.

"Sorry. Watch what happens though. Odd and Yumi can't be devirtualised. If they do, it's bye-bye for good."

Odd tried to shoot but he had forgotten he was in Yumi's body. They his behind a drop in the ice and Yumi tried to shoot.

"Odd, how do these arrows work?"

"Well, you aim at what you want to shot and think about firing. Bingo, you fire."

"I seriously doubt you were thinking about firing when you first used them," said harry as he took pot shots at the Krabes that had turned up.

"Well, I was thinking about a weapon…"

"Like this?" asked Yumi as she fired. Harry and Odd ducked and the arrow hit the tower.

"Hey!"

"Oops."

"Jeremy, we have a big problem," said Aelita as Ulrich destroyed a Krabe. "I can't do it from here. The program's being run by inhibiters."

"We'll have to deactivate them," said Jeremy as he looked at the representation of the inhibiters. "I'll try to find them. Oh no. Not there!"

Harry destroyed two Krabes without moving from his spot.

"Why aren't you out there fighting?" asked Yumi.

"I feel like keeping you company."

Aelita ran out of the tower as Ulrich re-joined them.

"We have to get to Sector five."

"What for?" asked Odd.

"I'll explain on the way," said Jeremy. "I'm bringing up your vehicles."

"Are you absolutely sure we have to go to sector five?" asked Yumi as she rode the Overboard like a magic carpet.

"We don't have time for me to try to crack the millions of codes that controls the inhibitors. Remember if you don't get back into your right bodies quickly, it means disintegration."

"And what's more, seeing how you handle those arrows, you might accidentally kill us," said Ulrich.

"Are you ready? I'm entering the code now."

They waited for the transport orb to appear. A Megatank appeared. Ulrich turned around and stabbed it as it fired.

"Ulrich!"

The transport orb picked them up and brought them to Sector five.

"I can't believe that I could possibly be so dumb," muttered Ulrich as he stepped out the scanner.

Sector Five

"I think I'm going to be sick," said Yumi as they were deposited in sector five.

"You can't be sick here," said Harry.

"The transporter does make me feel like throwing up," said Odd. "Tough break."

The wall opened and they ran through.

"Well?" asked Ulrich as he walked over to the computer.

"The countdown has started. Hurry up! Watch out for the Scyphozoas!"

"Like we don't do that already!" retorted Harry as they ran down a path. He flicked a shuriken at a creeper underneath it and the monster blew up. They ran into a dead end.

"Problem here."

"Xana's a pretty lame architect, he forgot to put the stairs in," Yumi joked.

"There's the key," said Aelita s she pointed at it

"Great, anyone know how to fly?" asked Yumi as Harry threw another shuriken at the creeper behind them before gripping onto the wall and climbing across it.

"Be careful Harry," warned Odd.

"Keep an eye on my back."

Another Creeper showed up. Yumi shot at it and missed.

"Great shot! You missed a Creeper 10 yards in a hallway?!" asked Odd. He walked to the edge and got knocked off the platform by a shot. Aelita threw an energy field at it and it blew up.

"Wow! Cool!" Odd started to swim.

"Xana's modified the gravity in there," said Jeremy as he watched. Harry pressed the key and swam over to the exit.

"Odd, what are you doing?" asked Yumi as he swam around.

"Can't you see?" asked Odd. "I'm swimming through guacamole!"

Harry sniggered. "Always expect a food reference from Odd."

He threw several shuriken at the advancing Creepers and soon there was a hail of shuriken.

"The Scyphozoas!"

"Oh no! Not now!" complained Odd as he reached the platform and flickered. The monsters picked Harry and Aelita up and began the work. Odd threw Yumi's fan and it sliced the tentacles of the one holding Aelita.

"Yes!"

It nearly took his head off. Yumi shot at the one near Aelita and it disappeared.

"I don't care," muttered Harry, not realising he was talking. "They're my friends and they need my help. "

Odd pulled out the second fan and cut the tentacles holding Harry. It dropped him before picking him back up.

"Man, Xana really doesn't want to let Harry go!"

Odd cut the tentacles again and the Scyphozoa retreated.

"Man, it's getting harder to resist," said Harry. "Xana is either getting better at manipulating people or he knows me extremely well. Some of the points he made could be seen as the truth from a certain point of view."

Odd smiled and helped Yumi to get Aelita across before coming back. They ran down the exit.

"Jeremy, every time we dematerialise, it last longer and longer," said Yumi.

"Aelita better find the code."

"Let me do it," said Harry. "I know what I'm looking for and I can probably use the interface as well. Hello Franz."

The pink ball floated alongside them. It nudged Harry and disappeared.

"What was that about?" asked Yumi.

"I think he was showing his approval," said Harry. "Or he was trying to reassure me about something. Or he wants to talk to me. I'll find him again later."

They jumped onto the elevator and rode it to the interface. Harry touched it and started to deactivate the inhibitors.

"Deactivate them as fast as you can Harry!"

"Done," said Harry. "That was easy. You can take over again now Jeremy."

Jeremy transferred the data to the rematerialisation program and loaded it. Several Creepers turned up and devirtualised Odd and Yumi.

"I hope the tweak worked."

"I'm going to the scanner room," said Ulrich.

Scanners

The two collapsed.

"Odd! Is that…is that you?" asked Ulrich as he shook Odd.

"Of course! What's the matter with you, don't you recognise your own friends?" asked Odd, back in his own body.

"Dork! It's ok Jeremy! We have full recovery!"

"Great!"

Sector Five

Harry turned back to the exit and walked inside.

"I'm going to find Franz," he said as he disappeared. Aelita watched him go.

Later

"Head's it's Yumi that turns up first," said Ulrich as he flipped his coin. "Tails, it's Odd. Tails."

"Tails it is," said Jeremy as they waited. Odd walked through the door.

"Yumi wasn't too mad at me on the end. About her parents or the maths quiz or for the clothes or for taking a couple of slaps for me."

He put his hand in his pocket. "What's this?" He pulled it out and looked at it. "It's for you Harry."

"Speaking of, uh…did you tell her what happened between us?" asked Ulrich.

"No way! I plan on staying alive, good buddy!"

"Why? What did happen between you?" asked Aelita. "Nothing horrible I hope."

"Oh, nothing…" said Odd and Ulrich.

"Hey, speaking of Yumi, look, she's over there with the school paper," said Jeremy as he pointed at her.

"Uh-oh…"

Yumi fixed Odd with a menacing stare after seeing the photo of herself and Ulrich.

"I don't like this…!"

"Odd…" growled Yumi.

"Ulrich, help me!"

"I warned you, sorry I can't give you any pointers, good buddy!" said Ulrich as

"OOOOOODD!"

"Oh no…" muttered Harry as he read the letter. "Sissi has a crush on me. I hope it's not all the returns to the past influencing her."

"You only just realised that Sissi has a crush on you?" asked Ulrich. Harry looked at him with a stare that promised death. "I'll stay out of it."

"What did Franz say to you?" asked Jeremy.

"Only to continue the good work in resisting Xana," said Harry as he shrugged. "And that he's proud of us."
