Vertigo
"Holosphere system connected," said Jeremy as they arrived in sector five. The wall opened and they ran through it.
"Three minutes to find the key. Go!"
The doors started to close and new one opened.
"Uh ho. The doors are in the wrong place," said Odd.
"Here come our old friends," said Yumi as Creepers turned up.
"Creepers! They just can't stay away from us," said Odd.
"Rather, they can't keep away from me," said Harry as a response. "They'll want to devirtualise you and herd me and Aelita to the Scyphozoa. Or whatever Xana is attempting to do to convert me to his side."
"Remember guys, the clock is running!" said Jeremy. "Let's see… I found the key. Two o'clock, directly above Yumi."
"That's a job for a cat! Or a ninja," said Ulrich has he say it. Harry turned into Odd who slapped him.
"Don't be a copy cat!"
Harry grinned and started to climb up.
"This is easy," he called.
"For some, maybe," retorted Ulrich. "I can't do it and you know why."
Harry sent a few shuriken down and demolished the Creepers but more popped up. One knocked Ulrich's sword out of his hands.
"Not so fast dummy!" Yumi hit it with her fan while Odd hit another with laser arrows before getting devirtualised. Harry hit the key with a few seconds left to spare.
"Nice one."
They ran through the revealed exit and jumped on the elevator. They waited for it to stop and ran to the interface.
"Hurry Aelita. We have to get the data before the mantas come."
"Well, duh," said Harry as he frowned.
"What's wrong Harry?" asked Yumi.
"I don't know. Something's off but I don't know what…." He glanced behind him. "Uh oh. Fish Heed! That was what I was feeling."
"The mantas are about to hatch!"
The Scyphozoa picked Harry up.
"Oh great," said Ulrich. "Our best fighter preoccupied with keeping Xana put of his head and now monsters. Oh joy."
"Jeremy, I don't see any mantas," said Yumi as Harry made the Scyphozoa drop him.
"Strange," said Jeremy as a Creeper snuck up on them. "I can see them on my screen."
Harry stabbed the Creeper. "Xana is even more convincing now," he muttered.
"Done Jeremy," said Aelita as she finished. "You can take over again."
"I'm sending you the Overbike and Overjet."
"What did Xana say this time?" asked Ulrich as the two vehicles appeared. Yumi and Harry jumped in the Overjet and Aelita joined Ulrich on the Overbike.
"He offered to give us the antivirus for Aelita in return for my servitude. I rejected it because I don't trust him to do anything and I don't want to be a slave."
Jeremy opened a passage.
"Jeremy, we have found a problem," said Ulrich as they flew around. "We've just found the mantas."
"You should be able to lose them."
Harry snorted. "Not if they start to follow me. You know Xana's obsessed with getting control of me through one means or another. I'd be glad to never see the Fish Heads again even though I know I will see them again."
"What is that?" asked Jeremy as the Mantas started to drop something. Harry flew above them as Yumi threw her fans.
"Yumi, I added some lasers for the second person."
Yumi looked around the cockpit and grabbed the joysticks. The crosshairs appeared and she aimed at the Mantas as her fans came back. The items blew up.
"Mines Jeremy. They're dropping mines."
How annoying," said Harry as he dodged them. "Still no match for me."
They shot throw the passage as the Mantas flew away.
Later
"Well, these are codes for Xana's subsystems," said Jermyn as they met in the lab. "I cracked them three weeks ago. One looks like a source code for a virus. I might be able to use it."
"And you didn't tell me," said Harry. "Be careful though. It could be for a different virus that Xana is developing."
"If the virus inside Aelita is anything like this one," continued Jeremy, ignoring Harry's words of caution. "I might be able to free her from Xana."
"You mean, like soon?" asked Aelita hopefully.
"Yep."
"Don't get your hopes up," said Harry. "It could be a trap."
"Well then, we're out of here," said Odd. "There's a climbing competition tonight. Got to practice."
"I'm already told you, I'm not doing it," said Ulrich as he yanked his arm from Odd.
"Really?" asked Yumi. "Why not?"
"Because."
"At least come and watch me," pleaded Odd.
"Come on, Ulrich! For once Odd's found a sport where being scrawny is a plus," said Yumi.
"Hey, I am not scrawny!" Odd said. "Nah, I'm svelte! It's not the same!"
"Of course it isn't," said Harry. "And don't take it personally about the competition. Ulrich isn't overly fond of heights."
"Ulrich's scared of heights?" asked Odd.
"No, he isn't fond of them. There's a difference."
Gym
"Come on, keep it steady," said Jim as Odd and Herb climbed up.
"You should've left your zits down there huh, Herb?" asked Odd. "They're too heavy."
"Della Robbia, I'm going to…" He fell off as Odd climbed to the top. Herb growled.
"I'm the king of the world!"
"Ok Stern. The wall," said Jim as he looked at Harry, Ulrich and Yumi.
"Which one?" asked Harry, grinning. "And don't make my brother do it. His has problems with heights."
"Stop saying that," muttered Ulrich.
"Both of you!"
"I'll help you if you need help," said Harry as they stood up.
"First one to the top," said William as he stood in front of them.
"How are we going to get three of us on there?" asked Harry with a raised eyebrow.
"There's more than two spots."
"Sorry, I don't climb," said Ulrich as he sat back down.
"Are you scared?" asked William.
"Leave it William," said Harry as he grabbed his shoulder. "He has problems with heights and he's not scared."
"Come on Stern, show us what you got. Get up that wall, hurry up!" ordered Jim. Ulrich stood up again and they walked over to the climbing wall.
"Hey man, humiliate this guy and let's go eat," called Odd as he jumped down.
Lab
"Ready Aelita?" asked Jeremy. She nodded. Jeremy pressed a button and the program launched. The progress bar filled.
"Yes! The test worked! It's unbelievable!"
"We did it! We got the antivirus! Shouldn't we get Harry to check?" asked Aelita. "He is the better programmer, no offence to you. Even Xana says so."
"Let's inject it right now," said Jeremy. "We can surprise the others."
"That's risky," said Aelita. "We should check with Harry."
"It will be just as risky now or in two days. Get to the scanners. I'll start the process."
Gym
The three climbed up the wall.
"What is he doing?" asked Odd as Ulrich lagged behind. "Come on Ulrich."
"Just ignore them for now," said Harry. "Just focus on one thing at a time. Don't look down."
Ulrich froze for a minute.
"You can beat him Ulrich," called Yumi.
"Come on," said William. "What are you? Spiderman? Are you spinning a web?"
"That's enough William," ordered Harry. "It's bad enough for Ulrich as it is. Don't make it worse or shall I mention that you're scared of spiders?"
"How do you know that?"
"You just told me."
"Hey, Stern! What's the matter with you?" asked Jim. Ulrich fell off.
"Oh, I get it," said Odd as he and Yumi stood over him. "A little nap before lunch right?"
"Leave me alone. Thanks for trying to help me Harry." He stood up.
"You've got vertigo Ulrich. Is that it?" asked Yumi. Ulrich walked off. Harry sighed. "Ulrich, wait!"
"Let him chill out a while! Give him time to get over it," said Odd as he grabbed Yumi's elbow as she made to go after him.
"You really had to make him do this Jim, didn't you?" asked Harry. "And William, if Ulrich doesn't want to do something, don't tease him about it."
Lab
"Ready Aelita?" asked Jeremy.
"Ready."
Jeremy ran the program before noticing a problem. he ran to the scanner Aelita was in and tried to open the doors. She fell out of the gap.
"Aelita, how do you feel?" asked Jeremy worriedly as he caught her. "Say something!"
"Something!"
"Haha! If you can make jokes as bad as Odd, you must be ok!" said Jeremy in relief.
Ulrich's and Odd's Dorm
Odd and Yumi peered at the empty room.
"Ulrich? Maybe he went to the factory to mope!" suggested Odd.
"I've got great news," said Aelita as she and Jeremy ran over.
"We found the antivirus," exclaimed Jeremy. "I've already given it to Aelita."
"You what?" asked Odd.
"That's so great!" said Yumi.
"All we have to do know is to shut down the supercomputer and say Ciao to Xana."
"Ok, but not without Harry and Ulrich," said Yumi. "We have to find them first."
"Why?" asked Jeremy. "Where are they?"
"Off somewhere hiding! I mean, sulking," said Odd. "Harry is probably trying to cheer Ulrich up."
"In that case, they're in the forest," said Jeremy. "Ulrich always goes there when he feels like moping and Harry goes there too to think."
Ulrich
Ulrich snapped twigs then looked around. "Come out Harry. I know you're there."
"Do you feel like talking?" asked Harry as he stepped out from thin air.
"No. do you hear that?" asked Ulrich as he looked around for the source. Harry listened.
"That clanging noise? I hear it." Howls echoed. Harry rubbed his head.
"Xana alert."
"Really?" asked Ulrich. "Better get to the factory."
"You believe me?" asked Harry with a raised eyebrow. Ulrich shrugged.
"Xana was a right. We don't listen to you when you sense Xana attacking. I'm trying to rectify that, even if it's a bit late."
"So, back to your usual cool self yet?" asked Odd as he and Yumi appeared.
"Not a hundred percent." Ulrich turned his back on them. "Harry says Xana's attacking."
Yumi put her arm around him. "This might put you out of your slump. We have incredible news."
Harry's and Jeremy's dorm
"I don't believe it," said Jeremy as he typed away at his computer. "I'm writing the last entry in the Lyoko travel logbook. Can you imagine? Aelita?"
Aelita held her head in her hands.
"You're not developing a Xana detection program too, are you?"
"I.. I…"
"You think it's the antivirus?" asked Jeremy. Aelita stood up.
"No, it's just an energy slump. I'll go and lie down in my room for a while."
She walked out the room with Jeremy's concerned gaze following her. Her hands disappear as Aelita gasped.
"Oh, Aelita! I didn't even see you standing there! But that's hardly surprising, you're such a wallflower! How can you expect a guy to notice you someday?" asked Sissi as she walked out her room. "I'm not talking about Jeremy, of course, he's already married to a computer chip! I mean a real guy, you know? Look at me, for instance: I'm really pretty, and attractive, but that's not all, I'm also funny, intelligent, sweet, and…very attentive to others!"
Aelita had turned completely invisible.
"Huh? Just what I was saying! She's so unremarkable that you don't even realise that she's gone!" continued Sissi.
"JEREMY BELPOIS!"
"Oh no!" exclaimed Jeremy as Harry barged into the room.
"WHAT WHERE YOU THINKING?" yelled Harry. "You should have gotten me to check it!"
"Jeremy"," said Aelita form thin air. "This is awful. I knew we should have gotten Harry to check it."
"It sure is," said Jeremy as he turned to face the tow. "Xana's attacking. Aelita?"
"I could have told you that," muttered Harry.
"I'm here."
"Where?" asked Jeremy.
"Right on front of you. But I'm invisible."
She started to sob. Harry put his arm around her.
"Don't worry," he said. "I do it all the time. Especially when I need to be sneaky."
"You can control it."
Jeremy put his hands out.
"Hey!"
"Sorry."
"Could this be Xana's attack?" asked Aelita. "Harry, you can see what it is, right?"
Harry nodded. "A pack of wolves. Most are illusions but three are real."
"Let's get to the factory."
Ulrich
They had just started towards the factory when they heard rustling.
"Uh-oh, what's that?" asked Odd as a wolf appeared. "A nice little doggie, I hope!"
"No, uh…a big, bad wolf, Odd…" corrected Ulrich as more appeared.
"Uh…w-when you're faced with a pack of wolves, what do you do?" asked a scared Odd.
"You run!" ordered Yumi. They fled and the wolves followed them. "This is the time when we need Harry!"
Sewers
Jeremy tried to call Yumi while he and Aelita rode their scooters and Harry his skateboard.
"You've reached Yumi. Please leave a message."
"Yumi," said Jeremy. "Meet us at the factory. There's a bug."
They stopped at the ladder and Aelita hadn't reappeared yet.
Ulrich
"Oh no," said Ulrich as more wolves ran past them. "We need to get out of here."
"Let's go," said Odd as they yarn past him. "Come on."
They started to haul themselves over some rocks, Yumi helped Odd up as Ulrich lagged.
"Ulrich! Hurry up!"
A wolf bit him and he kicked it. It fell, whimpering.
"Don't look down," advised Odd as Ulrich trembled as he looked down. "Concentrate on your hand grips! Don't think about anything else!"
Ulrich started to climb again.
"That's it!"
"Just a little further," said Yumi as she reached her hand to him. He slipped but Yumi grabbed his arm. "Got you!"
They helped him up.
Scanners
"We're here Jeremy," said Aelita as she walked into a scanner. Jeremy quickly started the process.
"It's not Xana," he said as the scanner opened again. "It's a bug in the antivirus. I'll have to deactivate it but it will take time."
"What about the tower?" asked Aelita.
"Send me," said Harry. "I'll deactivate the tower while you sort out the antivirus."
"Yumi?"
"We have a big problem," said Yumi over the mobile. "We're in the forest with a pack of wolves possessed by Xana."
"Harry says that only three of them are real. Aelita can't deactivate the tower on her own… I'll send Harry over alone."
"We'll do our best. But why only Harry?"
"Because he can do it. I know he can withstand anything Xana has to send at him. And it means that if the bug in the antivirus affects Aelita's ability to deactivate towers, Harry can do it."
"Jeremy, virtualise me on Lyoko," said Aelita. "I can help."
"No way! Harry can do it."
"If Xana sends the Scyphozoa or a clone against him, someone needs to be there to help."
"Hey, what am I? A potato?" asked Harry. "I can manage it."
"I'm not doubting your ability Harry."
Ulrich
"Your foot ok?" asked Yumi.
"Good thing you weren't wearing sandals," said Odd. A wolf growled behind them. "Oh, great…a flying wolf! Is it real or is it an illusion?"
Lyoko
The two landed.
"Nice to see you again," said Harry as he looked at the elf.
"It's good to be visible again. How can you stand it Harry?" asked Aelita.
Harry shrugged. "I know I can turn it off at any time."
"I programmed the Overjet for you. The activated tower shouldn't be far."
The vehicle turned up and they climbed in.
"Join me Harry…" whispered a voice.
"Shut up Xana."
"What?" asked Aelita.
"Can't you hear it?"
"I didn't hear anything."
"Xana is trying to get me again. This time he's speaking to me and only me."
Ulrich
A wolf approached.
"This is when the kind hunters usually come to the rescue, right?" asked Odd.
The wolf leapt and Ulrich fell off the rock. He fell into a tree and bounced down.
"Ulrich!"
He fell through a wolf.
"Well, at least we know that one's fake," said Odd as he kicked the one in front of him. His foot flew through it. It disappeared.
"That Xana is even sloppier than I thought."
They climbed down and Yumi kicked another wolf. Her foot shot through it. Ulrich kicked another one and it dodged.
"That one's real!"
"So are these two," said Yumi as they backed away. Her phone rang. "Jeremy!"
"How's it going?" asked Jeremy.
"It's no picnic over here."
"Hold on. Harry and Aelita re nearly there but Xana is talking to Harry and only he can hear it."
Lyoko
"The tower is in sight Jeremy," said Aelita.
"I can erase your pain," whispered Xana.
"I thought I told you to shut up," muttered Harry.
"Be careful."
They climbed out of the Overjet and ran behind a waterfall to the activated tower.
"Don't deactivate it. I can get rid of your friends. They limit you."
"Go away Xana. I don't want my friends to die."
Aelita tried to enter but bounced off it and rubbed her head.
"Aelita!"
"What's going on?" she touched it and it remained solid. "Jeremy?"
Jeremy called Yumi.
"Jeremy?"
"The antivirus I injected into Aelita has modified her virtual signature. The tower can't recognise her."
"She can't deactivate them anymore?"
"Exactly. Until I remove the antivirus, she can't deactivate towers."
"What about Harry?"
"He's having his own problems. Xana told him that he's going to get rid of you and apparently permanently. I think he's frozen."
"We'll be right there." She shut of the call. "Aelita need our help. So does Harry."
"Great," said Odd. "What about the wolves?"
"Split up," said Ulrich. "I'll take care of them."
"Are you crazy?" asked Yumi. "If you die, Harry will bring you back so he can kill you himself!"
"Go on, I said, ok? I may have vertigo, but I can handle a few flea-bitten mongrels!"
He picked up a stick.
"On three. Get going!
"You mean 1, 2 and go, or do you mean 1, 2, 3 and go?" asked Odd. "Or just go?"
"...go!" ordered Ulrich as he glared at them. They ran as Ulrich hit one on the snout. The stick broke and the wolf snarled. He ran off deeper into the woods before running across the road.
Lyoko
"Cavalry's on the way," said Jeremy as the two Scyphozoas appeared. "Behind you!"
Harry grabbed Aelita and used the monster's shadow to travel away from them.
"Couldn't you have gone further?" asked Aelita as they looked at the monsters. 2I know you can go further."
"It's harder with people. I know I managed to go to the factory with a few people but I need a lot of focus."
Aelita froze the two monsters using her creativity.
"Don't let her do that!" Harry ignored him.
"You can start the process Jeremy," said Yumi as she and Odd stepped into a scanner.
"Transfer Yumi. Transfer Odd. Scanner Yumi. Scanner Odd. Virtualisation!"
Jeremy loaded up their vehicles and they flew off as the other two faced Krabes. Harry jumped on top of them before they had chance to shoot and destroyed them.
"How's Ulrich?" asked Yumi.
"I don't know. I could get Harry to check but that leaves him helpless."
The Scyphozoas tentacles glowed and cracks appeared.
"They're breaking out!"
"Let them get to you. I can help you make sense of this world. You would be cherished."
"Yeah, as your best servant," muttered Harry. Aelita touched his shoulder. The Scyphozoas broke out and Harry got them away again.
"Don't go."
A Megatank fired on Odd and Yumi. Odd managed to dodge but the Overwing devirtualised and Yumi fell to the ground hard. The Megatank fired again and hit Yumi. Odd flew around on the Overboard and rammed the monster. It blew up.
"Well done Odd! Go help Harry and Aelita."
Odd headed towards the tower as Ulrich called.
"Jeremy, how's it going?"
"It's a complete mess. And you?"
"Ditto. The wolves are chasing me." One of the wolves leapt at him and knocked the phone out of his grasp. It skidded down the bodge.
"Ulrich? Ulrich!"
Jeremy activated the cameras and looked at Ulrich. The wolves closed in on him.
Harry
The Scyphozoas closed in on them.
"Are they ever going to give up?" asked Harry as they backed away.
"I don't think so," said Aelita as the monsters reached for them. They grabbed them and started their respective tasks.
"Go away Xana. I have made it clear that I don't want to serve you," muttered Harry as Aelita's memory was drained. "Only one person has a right to this body and that's me."
"Oh, no! They've got guard dogs!" said Odd as he glanced at some hornets. "WWHD?"
He looked around and climbed up the wall.
"What are you doing Odd?" asked Harry as he gave a glace over to him.
"Acting like you."
He shot the hornets, missed and dove underwater. He came up again and shot the Scyphozoas, forcing them to drop their captives.
"No! Let it pick you up again!"
One reached for Harry only for him to shoot at it.
"Leave me alone!"
The Scyphozoa reluctantly retreated.
"How's it going with the antivirus?" asked Odd.
"I'm working on it."
"What about Ulrich?" asked Yumi as they looked at the window with the cameras. Ulrich was limping. He slid down the rope as the wolves jumped down. He lost his grip and fell to the floor. The wolves surrounded him and started to bite.
"Ulrich!"
"The antivirus is deactivated!"
Harry ran to the tower and entered it. He rose to the second platform.

Lyoko
The wolves collapsed.
"Launch a return to the past!" ordered Yumi. "Hurry!"
"Return to the past now!"
Earlier
"First one to the top," said William. "Well?"
"No thanks."
"You chicken? You got vertigo or what?" asked William.
"Yeah, what about it?" asked Ulrich. "No worse than being afraid of spiders!"
William looked visibly confused.
"Hey, how did you know that?" he asked.
"I have my spies," said Ulrich. "And you just told me."
Sissi giggled.
"Anyway, see you around, Spider-Man!" continued Ulrich as he walked off. Yumi and Odd followed him.
"Don't worry," said Harry. "Didn't you say something about first to the top?"
"So, Aelita, what's it like being invisible?" asked Odd. "I always wanted to be like, you know, Sue in the Fantastic 4!"
