It's been a very long while, I apologise, but I hope I can make up for it with this new chapter?
Happy Reading :)
Two Weeks Later
"So Craig has settled in well." John said with a smirk on his face and I rolled my eyes as I got changed out of my work clothes whilst he lounged on the bed. "Yes, I'm aware of the attention he is getting thank you very much - but you have no idea how awkward it is when a woman comes up to me batting her eyelashes."
"You say that as if that never happened before we brought him here." John quirked an eyebrow and I just groaned. "No, he gets way more attention, trust me." I told him, almost cringing at the thought of my brother being flirtatious.
"You got my attention, surely that's worth something?" John said, acting coy and I smiled softly. "Your attention was more than I could ever have dreamed of and it's the only attention I want." I leant over and kissed him gently once I was in my sweat pants and t-shirt.
It was only just seven but after we had both eaten we were exhausted, despite the fact that John had not been working at all. "How's my girl?" I leaned down even further and kissed the spot just above his belly button.
"Kicking my ass." He groaned and I couldn't bare to scald his language when he was so tired, "How long do I have to do this again?" He whined and I chuckled softly, taking my place by his side and cuddling onto his shoulder.
"You have eight weeks yet, Love. She's just telling you she's healthy, and I for one am grateful for that." I said and a tear came to John's eye. "Why do you have to say stuff like that? You know it makes me all gooey." He complained and I just planted a kiss on his cheek.
"Lorne says we can move into one of the family rooms soon, and he's promised to help me decorate the nursery." I told John who hummed in appreciation. "I like that he's helping out, but I hate not being able to do anything. I've accepted I can't do my shoe laces any more but I'd love to stop sleeping all the time and stand up without having to heave myself up."
"When this baby comes, you'll regret saying that." I teased, kissing him. "I know, I know, I'm going to be sleep deprived, over worked and puked on. I don't know, I kind of look forward to that part." He smiled and my heart leapt a little. He was going to be such an amazing father.
"You know, people keep asking me what we're going to name the baby." I said, thinking out loud mostly and John wrapped his arm around me a little tighter. "I had an idea, I just-"
"I know, I had the same thought." I knew what her name was already, we both did. There was only one woman that kicked John's ass before, and it was the only woman than John truly admired and respected. "I thought you might." Was all he said, with a sad smile.
"Do you think people will be okay with it?" He asked after a few moments of relaxing silence. "I think they'll understand - besides, it can be shortened, we don't even have to call her by it if we don't want." John seemed to stop worrying once I told him that and started drawing lazy patterns on my shoulder.
"I miss her." I said. "Me too." He replied.
"Carson," John nudged me, "Carson, wake up!" He shoved and I sat up to look at him bleary-eyed. "What's wrong?" I asked, trying not to panic as I realised it was the middle of the night. John had fallen asleep fine and the pain hadn't happened in a while so my head spun as I tried to figure it all out.
"Can we go get peanut butter? And gherkins? Gherkins would be awesome." He grinned and despite my frustration I had to laugh. "Fucking hell John, I thought there was something wrong!"
"There is something wrong! Who the hell asks for peanut butter and gherkins? At four am!" I laughed even harder at that and had to muffle my laughter with my pillow. "No! Carson, you don't get to laugh, this is all your fault so whether you like it or not you are going to come with me to find some fucking peanut butter and gherkins."
I decided it was best for my health not to speak and instead help John out of bed and to the mess hall where there would be the food he was demanding. Luckily, four am was a quiet time in the mess hall so John was able to demand the food he wanted and have it served to him within a couple of minutes. The catering staff looked amused until John shot them a glare.
We went and sat on the balcony section of the mess hall and I was thankful it was still warm as John curled up on a chair and held a fork of gherkin in one hand and a spoon of peanut butter in the other. "I love you." I told him with a soft smiled and he rolled his eyes.
"You can't say that whilst I'm in this state, this is not attractive." He told me which made me smile even more. I knelt before him, gently placing my hands over his bump before looking up at him. "You, love, are the most beautiful man I've ever had the honour of knowing. It's moments like these that make me love you even more. Even with the ridiculous cravings, you are carrying our child, and that is a miracle. So when I say I love you, I mean it."
John had paused in his eating to lean down and kiss me which made me laugh all over again. "You stink of vinegar!" I laughed and he laughed too, causing us to get a couple of interested looks.
I quietly pulled up a chair opposite and pulled Johns legs until his feet rest in my lap. Gently rubbing them, he continued to eat his snacks. "I love you too, just for the record." He added in between mouthfuls.
"You guys are up early." We both looked around to see Ronan stood there. "My fault, I was hungry." John explained, pointing to the jars. "Is that a normal snack?" He asked and I snorted, "Sorry, I shouldn't laugh. No, it most definitely is not. Being pregnant makes you crave certain foods which are probably revolting in any other circumstance."
"Oh, okay." He accepted without much question. "So I hear your brother is settling in well." He commented and I let out a groan which confused him. John just laughed.
"Carson's just jealous because half of Atlantis didn't flirt with him." I rolled my eyes. "That's because everyone knew how much you liked him." Ronan said and we both stopped dead in our tracks. "Excuse me?" I exclaimed and he shrugged. "Sheppard protects you more than anyone else, he smiles at you. You do the same thing."
"How did Chewie know all this when we didn't?" John asked me and I just shrugged, choosing not to question the knowledge of Ronan who was far wiser than anybody ever expected. He quietly disappeared after that too, leaving us to ponder all he had just said.
"He's right." John admitted.
"He usually is." I replied.
So I know it's kind of short but I hope you enjoyed it :) Hopefully I can start getting onto the actual nine month mark of this whole thing - I kind of have an idea for a sequel story too but we'll just have to see how this all goes first - there's still a long way to go :)
