Double Trouble

"Please let me get a good grade, please let me get a good grade! Just for once, I'm begging you, please let me get a good grade," prayed Ulrich as he sat at the back of the class.

"You know, you might have better luck if you studied before the exam…it beats praying for them," said Jeremy as he turned to him.

"Excellent work, Herb. I'm not surprised, either. I gave you an A- as usual, the minus to show you can always improve. Well done," said Mr Fumet as he handed Herb his paper.

"Thank you sir."

"I don't get it," said Nicholas. "How could you be such a nerd? But then, you did crush Jeremy but not Harry."

"Keeping with the time-honoured tradition, I ah, I've saved the best paper for last," said Mr Fumet.

"I'm the only one left…he did just say the best, didn't he, huh?" asked Ulrich anxiously.

"I hate to burst your bubble, but it sounded like sarcasm!" murmured Odd.

"Ulrich Stern! There were so many spelling errors in this assignment that at first I thought it was written in some obscure and primitive language…but no, in fact, it was in English, unfortunately. I've given you an D+! The plus to give you room to do worse next time."

"That wasn't just sarcastic, it was bombastic…" Odd trailed off.

Principal's office

There was a knock on the door.

"Come in. oh, Miss Ishiyama. Well I must say I'm flattered that you answered my request to come and see me. Given your constant lateness and repeated absences over these past few weeks, I'm just flabbergasted that you actually decided to show up! To what do I owe this great honour?" asked Delmas as Yumi stood in front of his desk.

"I'm sorry sir. I'm really am."

"Perhaps but not as much as I am. I'm sincerely sorry to say this to you Yumi but you don't leave me any choice. If I hear that you're absent or late one more time, I will be forced to expel you from the school."

Yumi gasped.

Lab

"Expulsion? You're kidding," said Odd.

"Oh no. Delmas was dead serious this time," said Yumi.

"This can't go on much longer," said Jeremy as he rubbed his eyes. "It's getting harder and harder to fight Xana and keep up our school work. It helps that Harry leaves a clone in class so suspicion is off him but as for the rest of us…"

"Better believe it Einstein," said Odd. "If you ask me, Xana's trying to wear us down."

"There's one thing we could do. If we could recruit one more Lyoko Warrior, it would give us some breathing room," said Aelita.

"And who did you have in mind?" asked Yumi.

"There's William. He's already shown us what he can do!"

"No way, we've already been over this! William's too much of a hothead! No, he can't be trusted!"

"As far as I'm concerned, Aelita's right, it's a good idea," said Odd.

"No, it's a very bad idea!"

"I'm sure that he can cool off," said Harry.

"And I can talk to daddy about your potential expulsion," said Sissi.

"Look, we're all really tired," said Jeremy. "Let's talk about this tomorrow. Let's take advantage of the fact that Xana hasn't attacked and get a good night's sleep. I'll stay up a little while and work on a way to virtualise you directly into Sector 5, ok guys? I've got some calculations to do."

"That's what you call getting some sleep, Jeremy?" asked Aelita.

"Yep," said Harry. "It's a good thing you don't have to sleep with him."

"I don't need that much sleep. We'll sleep much better when we defeat Xana anyway. Not before."

Everyone left as Jeremy ran calculations.

The next morning

The computer beeped as a tower was activated. A shadow passed over Jeremy and he yelled.

Kadic

Jeremy ran into Aelita's room.

"Aelita! I have to talk to you!"

"What are you so excited about?" asked Aelita as she pulled her shoes on.

"I did it! I finally found a way to virtualise all of you directly into sector five." Aelita stared. "We have to run a test right now. Come on. Let's go to the computer lab."

"We have a physics test today," reminded Aelita.

"We have fantastic grades Aelita. We can afford to skip one exam."

"No way. Besides, we have to tell the others."

Outside

"No way," said Ulrich. "I need a decent grade to bring up my average."

Harry rubbed his head and started at Jeremy suspiciously.

"Ulrich's right," said Odd. "What's more, if we're all absent, they're going to suspect something."

"And I'm sure to get expelled," said Yumi.

"It's a pity that daddy wouldn't let up," said Sissi sadly.

"Some adventurers you are," said Jeremy.

"Don't be like that. We'll go after the test is over, at lunch," said Aelita.

"Ok, go ahead. I'll meet you in the lunch room." Jeremy walked off. Once he was behind the door, he flickered in anger and the eye of Xana replaced his pupils.

"That wasn't Jeremy," said Harry once he was out of earshot. "Xana's attacking and it looks like he made a clone of Jeremy."

"Are you certain?" asked Yumi.

"I know Jeremy. He wouldn't miss an exam."

Factory

Jeremy climbed out of the river onto the bank. He glanced at his phone.

"Oh no."

He started to climb up.

Class

Odd clicked his pen. "Hey Jeremy, what's the answer to question number one?"

"Is Aelita done yet?" asked Jeremy.

"How should I know?"

"Ask her."

Harry frowned.

"Hey, Aelita. Jeremy wants to know if you're finished yet," whispered Odd.

"Huh?"

"Odd? Would you like me to give you some help?" asked Ms Hertz as she stood up.

"Oh gee, thanks Ms Hertz, I sure could use a little!"

"I've had enough of watching you copy answers left and right Odd."

"I was just…"

"Jeremy, have you completed the exam?"

"Yes ma'am."

"Good. Then you will escort your classmate to the principal's office. It's time Odd was punished."

Lab

Jeremy ran to the terminal and picked up the microphone.

Kadic

The two boys walked up the corridor.

"Why wouldn't you let me copy off you this time?" asked Odd. "We wouldn't be here now!"

"And if you studied like everyone else, we wouldn't be here now."

"Look, A) not everyone else studies, and B) I am not like everyone else! I'm special, unique! Like you, by the way," said Odd as his phone rang. "Hello?"

"Odd! It's me, Jeremy!"

"Hm? Today isn't April Fool's Day!"

"Odd, listen to me! Xana has created a clone of me from a polymorphic spectre. We fought at the factory and he tried to drown me, but I survived. I don't know what he's planning, but-"

"Who's that?" asked the clone.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you."

"He's right next to you, isn't he?" asked Jeremy.

"Uh, yeah, I mean, I don't know. Harry did say that Xana was attacking."

"Look in his eyes Odd. Can you see the eye of Xana?"

"You didn't answer me. Who is it?" asked the clone as his eyes changed.

"Jeremy, I think you're right. What do I do now, huh? Aah!"

The clone threw Odd against the wall with a blast of lightning. Odd fell unconscious.

"Nothing! There's nothing you can do!" said the clone as it stalked away.

"Odd? Odd? What's going on? Answer me, will you! Odd!"

Yumi

"May I remind you not to spend too much time in the dark room," said Jim. "The dark room is for everyone to share. It's nobody's personal darkroom. I remember when I was a war photographer. We had to develop our prints fast, while bombs were falling!"

"You were a war photographer, huh Jim?" asked a boy.

"Yeah! …but I'd rather not talk about it. Ok. Yumi, William, you're the first up."

The two walked into the room.

"You know, I had another dream about you last night," said William as they started to set up.

"Is that so?" asked Yumi.

"There was this giant computer in this huge room like a factory, you know? And then both you and I were on this bridge, fighting against this factory worker, who was doing these wild acrobatics. There were two Harry Sterns as well."

"You really dreamed that?" asked Yumi as she looked at him, stupefied.

"Yeah. I've been having that same dream for a really long time! It's totally weird. Then again, of course, it's only a dream. And they're always a little bit weird! Right. Shall we go?"

Yumi's phone rang. "Jeremy? What's going on?"

Outside

"This light means that your classmates have started the developing," said Jim. "When you see that, no one should open the door. Otherwise, it would ruin the pictures."

Darkroom

"Listen Jeremy, if I miss class one more time, I'll be expelled, you get it? What do we do then?"

"I don't know what's going on, but you could always get out through there," said William as he opened a curtain.

"And Jim?"

"Leave it to me, I'll take care of Jim! He won't notice a thing. Just don't be too long. That's all" William opened the window.

"But why would you do that for me?" asked Yumi.

"Let's just say that in my dream I really enjoyed helping you out…so, why not try it in real life? Might be just as much fun!"

"Ok Jeremy. I'm coming."

"Great. Get Odd then go find Ulrich, Aelita, Sissi and Harry. I'm going to need all of you to deactivate the tower my twin set up. Speaking of whom, I wonder where he could be right now."

Factory

The clone walked up the bridge and into the factory.

Kadic

Yumi pulled Odd up as he regained consciousness.

"Jeremy, I found Odd. He's a little woozy but he'll be ok. We'll try to get Aelita, Harry, Sissi and Ulrich."

"They're on their way. Ulrich is finishing up though. Harry sent a clone disguised as you so Jim doesn't get suspicious. I'll begin setting up your transfer to Lyoko."

Lab

"Well what do you know? You actually survived. You're a real swimming champ! I'm almost proud to resemble you, I really am," said the clone as he shot lightning at Jeremy, who was thrown into a corner of the room. "With the exception that I am far more powerful than you!"

"Harry will stop you," said Jeremy weakly. The clone opened the doors and they began to struggle.

"Banzi!" Harry knocked the clone down. "You ok Jeremy?"

"I could be better."

Darkroom

Harry's clone slipped in.

"That was fast Yumi," said William.

"Sorry, I'm not Yumi. It's me, Harry!" Harry changed for a few seconds into his original form. "I'm here so Yumi doesn't get kicked out."

"That's nice of you," said William. "But since when could you change into an exact replica of someone else?"

"It's a long story. One that I can't tell you without my friends. Most of us do want to tell you but one doesn't. I just hope something doesn't' happen to the boss."

"And you can clone yourself. Ok, I'll accept that. It's weird but then, you've always been weird. I saw that in a dream though. There were two of you."

"Uh, strange dream," said Harry. "I have no idea why you would dream about me cloning myself when I've never shown you that."

"What are they doing in there?" asked Jim to himself. "What's taking so long? Yumi! William! What's are you doing in there?"

"We're almost done Jim!" called William as he dipped a photo in the developing mix. "We've almost done the prints! They'll be fantastic!"

"You're sure taking long enough! Hurry it up, will ya?!"

"We just want them to done properly," called Harry. "We're going as fast as we can!"

Factory

"So what does Jeremy's evil twin look like?" asked Yumi as they waited for the elevator.

"Well, just like Einstein, except with muscles and superpowers!"

Lab

They entered to find Harry grappling with one of the Jeremys.

"Get down to the scanners on the double," said the Jeremy in the chair. "I'll prepare the transfer. The faster we deactivate the tower, the faster we'll be rid of the clone."

"Let's get going," said Yumi.

The doors closed and they reopened on the scanners.

Class

"Alright, time is almost up," said Ms Hertz. Ulrich began to scribble down more.

Scanners

Odd, Yumi and Aelita stepped into the scanners.

"So, which one was the real one?" asked Odd.

"The one in the seat," said Harry. "I can tell."

The scanners closed on Odd, Yumi and Aelita.

"Transfer Aelita. Transfer Yumi. Transfer Odd. Scanner Odd. Scanner Aelita. Scanner Yumi. Virtualisation."

Lyoko

The three appeared and a few seconds later, so did Harry and Sissi.

"Ok Jeremy, send us our vehicles, we're raring to go," said Odd.

"Sorry Odd. There's another plan."

"I thought you said that was the real Jeremy," said Sissi.

"It was. The clone pulled Jeremy out and my clone's taking care of him."

"What's he going to do?" asked Yumi.

"Probably something bad."

Odd, Sissi and Yumi began to flicker.

"What's happening to us?"

"I'd say that the clone messed with your codes so the computer would mess you up," said Harry. "Xana needs me and Aelita on Lyoko so that's why we're not affected."

"You mean, he bugged us," said Odd. Harry nodded than paled as the Scyphozoa approached.

"I suggest we run."

Lab

Harry's clone pushed the Jeremy clone out of the way then started to fix the damage.

Darkroom

"William! Yumi! That's it, you hear now?! Open up!" ordered Jim.

"Can't, Jim! We're working on the contrast! You know how important the contrast is! I mean, you know better than we do! If we open up now, we'll lose everything," said William.

"Hey Yumi! Why do you leave all the talking to William?" asked Jim. No one answered. "Yumi! Answer me!"

"Oh, I'm right here, Jim! I guarantee you it'll be worth waiting for! William and I are making some incredibly beautiful photographs," called Harry.

"Um, ok. But hurry it up!"

"We will Jim!"

"William, I might disappear soon," said Harry. "There's a problem the boss has run into. It might cause me to go if the problem happens to the boss."

"Right. I don't even want to know what kind of problems you have to deal with."

Lyoko

Several Kankrelats fired on them. Odd fired but the arrows didn't do anything. Harry pulled out his shuriken and hit the Kankrelats which blew up.

"The clone really should have bugged my weapons up," said Harry.

"At this rate, there isn't going to be any winner! Go on, knock yourselves out!" said Odd as more fired through him.

Aelita backed away from the Scyphozoa. Harry ran over and pulled Aelita onto his back. He then ran away but skidded to a halt when he reached the edge of the path. He closed his eyes then changed direction. The Scyphozoa grabbed Aelita from his back and started to possess her. Harry pulled out his sword and cut the tentacles.

"How come we only see one of theses at a time now," he grumbled. "If I was Xana, I would try to get both of us."

"It's horrible not to be able to do anything," moaned Yumi.

Aelita stood up and attacked Harry.

"You should know better than that," said Harry as he sidestepped. Aelita ran and Harry rolled his eyes. "I know this will end up with me getting possessed but…"

He ran forward and stabbed Aelita.

Lab

"I take back what I said," said Jeremy's clone to the real Jeremy as he faced it. "You're not even half as smart as me! As a matter of fact, you're a stupid dope!" he electric shocked Jeremy. "Sorry, but one of us is going to have to go! I know that Harry's clone is only doing what it's told to. Protecting you."

The clone crackled and fell, revealing Ulrich behind it.

"Right, and I think that's going to have to be you! Hey, I think I need glasses, 'cause I'm seeing double," said Ulrich.

"Thanks Ulrich, you got here just in time."

"What's happening on Lyoko?" asked Ulrich as Jeremy replaced Harry.

"My clone bugged everything up."

Lyoko

The second Scyphozoa rode behind Harry and grabbed him.

"Uh oh. I really hate being surprised by these things!"

"What's happening?" asked Jeremy.

"Well, Harry devirtualised Aelita and now he's' brainwashed and crazy," said Odd as the Scyphozoa placed Harry on the floor. "We can't do a thing to stop him. Not that we could before. Have you seen the guy move?"

"We've lost the mountain sector," said Sissi as she backed away from a Blok.

"I'll take care of that," said Jeremy. "Harry being under Xana's control is obvious. His clone just disappeared. Don't panic. I'm sending Ulrich as back up."

Lab

The Jeremy clone woke up and stood up.

"Uh sorry. Major problem. Might take a little time."

The clone electrocuted Ulrich.

"It's too late for you."

"I'm starting up the debugging," said Jeremy. "I hope this works."

Lyoko

The three reformed and ran after Harry.

"You're than man Einstein!"

"Thanks. But you have to try to stop Harry before he enters the Xana code."

Sissi turned and faced the Kankrelats as the two vehicles appeared.

"I'll keep these of your backs. Go beat some sense into Harry's head."

The two flew off as Sissi hit one. The others hit her several times and she devirtualised.

"I really need to work on my dodging," she muttered as she collapsed in the scanner.

"It's great to have my svelte body back," called Odd.

Lab

"Things are heating up over here," said Jeremy as Ulrich fought the clone.

"Where's Harry?" asked Yumi.

"He's nearly at the way tower."

Odd faced the remaining Kankrelats.

"Go! I'll cover you!"

He fired and one of the remaining Kankrelats blew up. He jumped off the Overboard and jumped on the Kankrelats. They fired and devirtualised him then turned and followed Yumi.

Harry

Harry ran to the way tower and clutched his head.

"Be quiet. I am in control."

He fell to the ground then stood up again.

"Harry!"

Yumi flew in front of him and pulled out a fan. She sent it at Harry but the boy dodged and entered the Way Tower.

"Oh, Jeremy… There was nothing I could do! We've lost the mountain sector. Don't forget to bring me and Harry in."

Harry rose to the second platform and touched the interface.

Harry

Code

Xana

The tower disappeared. Harry fell out and landed on his feet. The sector started to disappear. Harry pulled out his sword and stabbed both of them.

Scanners

Harry slumped to the floor as soon as he materialised in the scanner.

"I am such a weakling."

"Hey, don't blame yourself," said Odd as he walked over. "You didn't want to destroy the sector."

"I should have been able to shrug Xana's influence off though."

"You did though," said Yumi. "For a few seconds."

Lab

The clone faded away as the tower powering it disappeared with the rest of the sector.

"You ok?" asked Jeremy as he ran to Ulrich.

"No…"

Later

"The Mountain Sector has completely disappeared. There's no way of getting into Sector 5 now," said Jeremy. Harry wrapped his arms around his knees.

"Now Xana can attack the Core of Lyoko at any time, and destroy it for good, and there'll be nothing we can do against him," said Aelita sadly.

"It's all my fault," said Harry. "I sent another clone to help out Yumi."

"I thought we'd been over this," said Odd. "The only sector you were directly responsible for was the ice sector."

"Lyoko is gone for good. And without it, there's not a thing we can do to fight Xana," said Jeremy. The computer beeped suddenly and text rolled down the screen. "Wait a minute, these are the results of the calculations I made this morning!"

"What about them?" asked Odd.

"I think I may have found a way to virtualise you directly into Sector 5 at last!" Harry perked up.

"You mean the struggle against Xana goes on?" asked Ulrich.

"Now, get as smile on that face of yours Harry," said Sissi. "There's still a chance."

"He's not rid of us yet," said Jeremy.

"If that's the case, then we're going to need somebody else. After what's happened, we don't have a choice, it seems," said Yumi. The others turned to her, surprised. Yumi held back a smile. "What? I changed my mind, so?"

Kadic

Harry's clone slipped through the window as Jim picked the lock. Yumi slipped in a few seconds later and the clone disappeared. William looked startled.

"Hey! Right now! You hear?! I'm going to open up this door and don't think I can't do it! I used to be a safecracker! …I mean a locksmith!"

He pushed the door open and pictures went flying.

"I told you not to come in Jim," said William. "Now you've ruined our pictures!"

"Yumi? Where's Yumi?" asked Jim.

"Here I am, Jim!" said Yumi as she appeared from behind the door. "That's so uncool for our prints, we worked really hard on them!"

Later

"So then, you're saying, my dream…really wasn't a dream?" asked William as the three sat on a bench.

"Right," said Yumi.

"It really happened? Are you sure?" asked William.

"I am."

"It better have," said Harry. "Sorry about lying to you."

"It's alright," said William. "You were trying to keep your secret. And you're also sure that you need my help?!"

"I am!"

Aelita, Jeremy, Odd, Sissi and Ulrich stood close by, watching.

"You think he'll say yes?" asked Aelita.

"Of course! If Yumi asked him to dive off a cliff, he'd do it in a second," said Odd.

"I hope this works out," said Sissi.

"By the way, how did your physics test go?" asked Jeremy.

"Hey, it went really well! Who'd of thought that studying for a test would help?" asked Ulrich.

"Ulrich turning into a good student for once, William turning into a Lyoko Warrior…our little group is going through a lot of pretty huge changes," said Odd.

Ulrich, Aelita and Jeremy nodded as William shook Yumi's and Harry's hands as a form of agreement.
